Catching up from the weekend?

I have to get something off my chest. I have an addiction problem. I’m addicted to Groupons. Whenever I get an email for a Groupon that includes a deal for a restaurant with an appetizing menu within a 30 mile radius, I hit “Buy Now”. I love getting to try out new places to eat that I otherwise may have never heard about or been wary to pay full price for a test-drive run. Unfortunately, when this addiction couples itself with my forgetfulness we have another problem.

When I flipped my calendar to April, I noticed that we had not one, but TWO Groupon deals expiring this weekend. Oops! Thankfully we had Saturday open to do a lot of eating. I didn’t mind. Big surprise, right? 😉

One of the spots had a perfect menu for a light lunch, so that’s exactly what we did. Cafe Lapin is a small cafe tucked away in the Buckhead area. It doesn’t look like much at all, but they had a nice sounding menu. I ordered an apricot chicken salad sandwich with the mixed greens salad.

The sandwich tasted a little weird and wasn’t my favorite, but the salad with its balsamic, dried cranberries, and sunflower seeds worked quite well. I left satisfied. After all, to cash in our entire Groupon we had some money to spare on a little dessert. I ordered an Oatmeal Dark Chocolate Cherry Toffee cookie.

A mouthful of a name for a cookie…and a mouthful of yum for flavor. I also admit to having an addiction to sweets. I own it and figure there could be worse things. Like, you know, not loving sweets. I would classify that as catastrophic.

In between our dining, we hung out with Peter’s family at his parents’ house to let our appetites get going again. Awhile later, it was time for dinner at The Fickle Pickle.

The Fickle Pickle is a really cute little restaurant in an old renovated house. I love the charm and vibe of places like this. I also love when the food lives up to the atmosphere. It most certainly did here.

For my dinner, I ordered a BLT sandwich that had bacon, arugala, tomato, BRIE cheese, and a basil spread on sourdough bread pressed panini style. The fries left a bit to be desired, but the sandwich…perfect. I know a certain somebody would agree.

We hightailed it out of there after eating because the kiddos were getting tired. After getting them to bed, we settled in for the evening with the movie 127 Hours. I really liked it. It kind of amazes me how a movie without much happening can capture my attention so well. Although, I did not stay attentive during the whole amputation scene. No thank you. Overall, I would recommend it though.

The rest of the weekend remained rather low-key. We stayed home from church because little B seemed sick. I went for a 5 mile run with Lee from In My Tummy. It was nice to run with a friend because we helped keep each other going and chatted off and on. She also helped me reach a new distance – 1st time hitting 5 miles! Wee! After the run, I spent the rest of the day napping and snuggling a sick kiddo. All in all a good weekend since B seems to be getting better. I hope yours was too! 🙂

Brewing Up Some Fun

Morning, friends! How did everyone’s weekend go? I hope well and that those experiencing the time change weren’t too poorly affected. I felt exhausted all day and even ended up taking a three hour nap. The kids slept for 3 hours too. Unheard of but much welcomed. Especially since I stayed up late (for me) Saturday night with a blogger meet-up and some chill time with the husband. Sorry, Peter…but the blogger meet-up stole the show this time.

From bottom left then around the table – Alayna, Lee, Sarena, myself, Laura, Kristy, Stacy, Laura, and Laura.

We met up at the 5 Seasons Brewing Company for some grub and conversation. And beer. I can’t go to a place that brews their own specialty beers and not order one! That would be blasphemous, no? 😉

scotchale

I ordered the Kilt Lifter Scotch Ale. It had a nice strength to it, but wasn’t overly hoppy either. You can tell I’m such a professional, huh? I just know what tastes good. This = tasted good. That’s all you need to know too,

When it came time to order dinner, I almost went for the Alligator Eggrolls. Or the Antelope Patty Melt. Or the Rabbit Enchiladas. Or…ummm…not! They did have quite a few things that looked great – salads, a shrimp & grits dish, scallops, ahi tuna, a grilled pizza with ham and apples. I couldn’t get over the thought of a Portabella Mushroom Sandwich though. I was sold at goat cheese and getting some fries.

Two portabella mushroom caps in balsamic with goat cheese and greens. Served on a delicious foccacia bread.

Apparently our table agreed as half of us ordered the dish and I think all of us got sweet potato fries. With good reason too. It was a winner. Clearly, since I ate my entire plate. Total domination.

We spent about 2.5 hours there chatting about all sorts of things – races, favorite workouts, Roller Derby (which Laura does!), favorite restaurants in the area, frozen yogurt love, and more. I love how a group of bloggers and readers can get together and instantly connect. It’s a special bond we have I tell ya. I already can’t wait for our next meet-up, which will hopefully be sooner this time. And I cannot wait for the Fitbloggin’ conference in less than 10 weeks to meet some of you other ladies. Whether or not I have the chance to meet you in person someday, I consider each of you a friend. You all really are so great. Muah! Now, have a good day why don’t ya?
