Fireworks, Lasers, and Flames, Oh My!

Did that get your attention pyros? We’ll have to get to that in a minute. First, we need to backtrack.

Remember our trip to the Renaissance Festival? Well, now we must continue on with what happened during our busy Saturday. We left the Renaissance Festival at around 3:00 to head to lunch. We had the perfect place to go to. About a month ago, I bought a Groupon to a pizza joint in the Virginia Highlands to get $25 worth of food for $10. My parents live in the Highlands area and we were going to their apartment for Makenzie to nap after our late lunch, so we knew this was a great chance to use the Groupon.

Everbody’s Pizza hit the spot. They have a ton of fresh toppings to go with their daily fresh made pizza dough. We figured it would be best to split a medium…half hers and half his. My side had olives, mushrooms, spinach, and Italian sausage. His had pepperoni, sausage, and feta. Definitely his and hers, right? Especially considering I scraped off most of the sausage as it was just too much.

I had one monstrous slice and a tiny sliver off another piece. It was very filling. And very good. There was an entire thick layer of spinach underneath the cheese! Mmmmm.

I don’t see a problem with us using our other Groupon we got for Everybody’s Pizza before the end of October. We are very picky about pizza and this was great. Next time I will just know to forego the sausage.

The remainder of the day, after Makenzie napping and me blogging, was the Laser Show Spectacular at Stone Mountain Park.

Our Sunday school group of friends were all meeting up there for a night of fun. It was pretty hectic because they had most of the lawn fenced in with only one opening. You had to walk completely around the lawn and little town area to get from one area to another (about a 15 minute walk) so it was difficult finding everyone and getting together. We got it figured out though and then all enjoyed a picnic dinner.

Since we were out all day and didn’t want food going bad in a hot car, we picked up some subs before going into the park. Subway can make for a great dinner in a pinch. Especially when it’s sit-on-a-blanket style.

We spent a couple of hours talking with our friends, enjoying everyone’s company, and letting the kids play. Makenzie was cute and seeking attention, as always.

At around 9:15 the laser show began. It was different this year (finally) and was fun to watch. Going to the laser show is a tradition we have every year and it was nice to enjoy it with friends. It was also great to see Makenzie so into it. She loved the fireworks. I wish I had some better pictures of them! This is the only picture you can relatively see that Peter managed to get during the show.

It was so cute to see her eyes light up at all the fireworks, flames, and lasers. Yep, our laser show isn’t just lasers. It’s like 4th of July every night at Stone Mountain. When it was time to say goodbye to all the pyrotechnic fun, we packed our exhausted selves up and headed home to crash. Only for me to wake-up at five am and not be able to go back to sleep. I guess that works for the best because I was able to type this post and have it ready to publish for you all while I’m out galavanting around in my Happy Mother’s Day glory. Be sure to tell your momma you love her today! And come back tomorrow for my FIRST VLOG! It will be an exciting one. I can assure you of that. 😉

Play Dates & Lunch Dates

Thank you everyone for your kind comments yesterday. I have full faith that things will work out perfectly. God knows what is best and I want His plans to happen since I know they will be the most fulfilling. I look forward to all the future has in store for me because I know there will be great things to come. That won’t keep me from wishing and praying He works it out sooner than later though! God is my dear friend, so I know I can joke with Him about how He is managing things and that He gets me and all the faith that is truly in my heart. Thank you for helping me keep that faith grounded and strong.

Today has been jam packed and I am very thankful for that. As I’ve mentioned before, this week tends to have me going back on forth between various thoughts and emotions; so the best thing to keep me stable is distraction. Today I have had plenty to distract me. Tomorrow and Saturday I will have even more distraction. This week’s super filled scheduled could not have come at a better time.

Today started off with a bowl of Cheerios + dried pineapple + unsweetened vanilla Almond Breeze to fuel for spin class at the gym.

It was delicious and helped me get through another great workout for my current needs. I love how easy it is to adapt spin classes to more or less intensity.

After class, I got cleaned up because I had to leave straight from the gym to go to a playdate with the mommy group. Question = how can I get so incredibly nasty sweaty in spin classes? It’s gross. I always sweat a lot but spinning brings it to a whole new level. Needless to say, I am very happy to hear rumors out there that the more you sweat, the fitter you are.

Once I was presentable and didn’t look like Mark Richt after being doused with Powerade (because us Dawgs don’t drink Gatorade)…

…we were off to the park for some playtime with friends. Any guesses where we spent most of our time at the park??

P1140148 P1140144

Aren’t you a genius?? Or just observant that Makenzie is addicted to the swings recently. I did manage to pull her away to do other things for part of the time we were there.

P1140154 P1140150 P1140152

Playing the musical ball things, looking at “flowers”, and climbing a wooden “choo choo” are all entertaining in case you ever get bored. 😉

We only stayed an hour because this mom was getting to the point of hangry and in need of some grub. Lucky for me I had a lunch date planned with the hubs since the playground was less than 5 minutes from his office. Yay! I love lunch dates. They seem so special because they are out of the ordinary. They even more special when they include the best wrap you have ever eaten. Ever. Like, in your entire life ever.

P1140166

We hit up Tacone Flavor Grill, which is a wrap, sandwich, and salad hotspot for lunch that my husband always raves about and has caused jealousy on my part for quite some time.

P1140155

When I looked at the menu, I knew immediately what I would be ordering. It all looked so good, but the Perfect 10 just called to me.

P1140156

It did, in fact, sound perfect.  So I placed my order and then took a seat amidst all the cute decor. Love this message they have all over their walls…

P1140164

Then…it arrived. A wrap so flavorful, so delicious, and so big alongside a just-right coleslaw.

P1140174

P1140173

Avocado, rice, beans, peppers, onions, cabbage, salsa, cilantro, and a smidge of cilantro ranch sauce all wrapped up in a wheat tortilla. Then the cool, crips, peppery, but not too oily/mayoinnasey cole-slaw alongside.

P1140175

I finished perfectly satisfied. Which reminds me – stay tuned for an intuitive eating post tonight on feeling your fullness, something I sure did.

P1140178

This meal Made. My. Day.Or I guess I should say second to spending my lunch with the most wonderful man on the planet. Go ahead and say it. “Awwwww”.

  • What is the best lunch you’ve ever had? Or what makes a perfect lunch for you?
  • Do you prefer lunch dates or dinner dates with a significant other, close friend, etc?
