Vacation Fluboos

Posted: June 17, 2011 at 8:39 am

Keep those entries for the Physique 57 giveaway coming! And hello to all the new faces I'm seeing in the comments. 🙂

I may have made up the word “fluboos”, but it fits really well with happenings going on yesterday. I mean - wouldn’t it figure that on one of the last days of our trip we faced storms? We missed out on any and all beach time because of rain and overcast yuckiness. Luckily, we had planned for such a rainy occasion and turned to Groupon to get us through.  We had a deal for two hours of unlimited bowling for up to 6 people to occupy us on a rainy day. We’ll just pretend the sun didn’t come out to play right when we decided to go, okay? That sun. What a jokester.

Even though we missed some extra beach time for an activity we very well could have done at home, all wasn’t lost. We got to have all the siblings together for our bowling fun. We have to take advantage of our time with my brother, since he returns to Arizona on Sunday night. We needed another occasion to nab as many Tommy-grabbing photos as possible. It’s our signature pose.

IMGP0285

As for the actual bowling – I scored my best game ever!! A high score of 104! I even scored the first strike out of anyone. Go me.

We’ll just pretend we didn’t have the bumpers up for Makenzie.

IMGP0257

Speaking of Makenzie, she enjoyed her first game of bowling so much!

IMGP0255IMGP0276

Undoubtedly she is a child of the 21st century. Her statement on bowling? “Daddy, this is better than iPhone bowling”. I kid you not. She at least knows a real good time when she sees one though. And we had a great time.

After bowling, we knew we had to head back to the condo to quickly get ready for dinner. Upon arriving to our condo we quickly learned about vacation fluboo number two of the day. Our most favorite restaurant couldn’t fit our family in for dinner that night. Sad day!

We ended up at my G-Pa’s favorite place for round two of Stonewood.

IMGP0291

Instead of feeling annoyed at having to hit up the same place just a few days after eating there, I decided to use it as an opportunity to try something new. I usually have favorites at each of the restaurants we visit and will never branch out on the menu for fear of ordering something that doesn’t live up to my favorites. I went the daring route tonight. And it paid off. Instead of a blueberry martini, bruschetta, and a filet dish…

…some cabernet to drink…

IMGP0294

…some pretzel and cranberry bread to nibble…

IMGP0297 IMGP0296

…sharing an ahi tuna with asian slaw appetizer…

IMGP0301

…and a steak salad as my entree.

IMGP0304

The steak salad didn’t wow me. It tasted like any salad with mixed greens, blue cheese, walnuts, and meat I can find anywhere. The wine had no depth and tasted kind of cheap. The ahi tuna impressed me, though. I could have made that my meal with some of their creamed spinach I adore and called it a night. Even though I much prefer my typical choices, it felt nice to branch out.

Now, its time for me to live up my last day at the beach. Last day! Why do the good weeks always have to go so quickly?

  • Do you have any “signature poses” for pictures?
  • Do you have trouble ordering different things at restaurants?

That is such a funny comment by M. It’s so weird to think how much technology has changed just in our lifetimes! Crazy!!

  2. Allison says:

I ALWAYS order the same things because i don’t want to pay money for something im not going to like and why mess with a good thing lol but i always think that i should try something different then my usual choices… But since im a vegan i normally only have a few choices when i eat out so their isn’t too much decision making that i have to do lol

Hello! I’m pretty new to reading your blog, and I have to just say I love, love love it!!!

Thanks for sharing your life with so many people!

    • Tina says:

Aw, thanks! I love sharing my life because of the community of support from readers like you. Thanks so much for this comment!

  4. Angela says:

I love bowling!! And as far as ordering at restaurants goes, if it’s a restaurant I’ve been to before, I usually order the same thing I had last time, or something close to it so that I won’t be disappointed. However, if it’s a restaurant I go to a lot, I experiment a bit more – it’s a trust thing I guess!

  5. My niece loves bowling (she is 4) — she needs help pushing the ball but she gets so excited — even if she gets a gutterball. So cute.

Honestly I usually get a Chef Salad when we go out to eat — it has everything that I like!

  6. Samantha says:

Haha I love signature poses! I have three, depending on the person I’m with (because I’m THAT cool hahaha)

If I’m with my boyfriend, we always do the “I’m not looking at the camera” pose. He loves doing that for some reason, so I’m happy to obilige.

My best friend and I do the “whaddup” face — there’s a long story behind it, but her brother hates it when people speak like “OMG, WTF, LOL,” so we usually make the “whaddup” face and speak like that around him. And then the camera comes out.

My roommates and I always do a “say cheese” face. It’s just a really obnoxious grin. But it makes us happy. It’s the little things.

Have fun on your last day! 🙂

  7. Kerri S says:

Hi Christina, I love your blog! I have linked to it from my blog!! 🙂

  8. Your family look like so much fun! I don’t have a big family/ family vacations so I have loved reading about your vacation!

  9. Michelle says:

Bummer on the weather!!! Booooo Florida!

I really have a hard time picking different things at restaurants. Especially if I KNOW something is good. Why change a good thing?

    Have a safe trip home!

  10. Enjoy your last day, I hope you get some good sun and beach time in! I feel ya on the cloudy weather, the last 3 times we have gone to NC for our beach week it has non-stop poured for over 80% of the time! Talk about a downer! And I mean poured as in tropcial storm type of weather. So depressing!

  11. Kristen says:

I tried P90X’s Ab Ripper X recently and it nearly KILLED me!

  12. One hand on hip and leg out..it’s classic for me 😉

  13. Cam I come on your family vacation next time? Y’all look like you have so much fun!

  14. Mac says:

Wow impressive bowling score! Even on my good days and when I’m lucky I barely break 100 lol! Sounds like the family vacation is going wonderful!

  15. My best friend and I always take pictures of me with my tongue out and her making a kissy face. We call it our “classic” photo now.

I try to branch out and try new things are restaurants but when it isn’t someplace I go often, I normally want to enjoy what I know I like!

  16. jobo says:

Cute pic with your brother! Bummer about the rain but sounds like you found a way to make it super fun still 🙂 I always veer towards the same thing on the menu! Like salmon. I almost always order it. or a salad with shrimp or steak or something. I hate when it’s not nearly as good as you wanted.

  17. Looks like the perfect rainy day! M looks so cute! 😀

  18. I looooove Stonewood’s pretzel bread! My boyfriend always gets the Ahi Tuna for his main course!

    • Tina says:

That pretzel bread is phenomenal. And so was the ahi tuna. I definitely could make that my main course in the future.

  19. hahaha better than iphone bowling oh my gosh! i cannot belive it! thats too cute! bowling is so fun 🙂 glad you are having a great time and that tuna WOW looks so good!

  20. BUMMER ABOUT THE STORMS!!! The bowling looked like a good time though:) Girl, you are GORGEOUS!! I LOVE AHI TUNA!!! I always order the same thing!

  21. Glad you’re having fun!!

  22. Angel7 says:

Kids say the funniest things 🙂

I would say that I am pretty spontaneous when it comes to picking out food on a menu. I am game for almost — and I say almost 🙂 — anything.

  23. My best friend ALWAYS do the arm pop in pictures. It looks kind of ridiculous sometimes to have our elbows jutting out so far, but it’s our signature- there are barely any pics of us without it!!

  24. I totally do the leg pop with my hand on my hip with my best friend, we each have our “favorite sides” and luckily we like opposite sides!! I definitely tend to order the same thing at restaurants, but when I am at a special place I do my best to try something new or something they specialize in!

  25. […] was not a happy camper when I discovered our family couldn’t get a table at my all-time favorite restaurant. Peter could see my disappointment at the thought of going a […]

  26. Coco says:

I love M’s comment on bowling! There are some places where the reason I go is to have my favorite dish. Tonight I ordered something different and wouldn’t order it again, but I’m glad I tried something else for once.
