Meeting Em

Posted: April 25, 2010 at 4:24 pm

Today has been such a wonderful day! I went to church this morning and shared some great discussion with friends in our Sunday school class. Then, my good friend Angie showed up during service and I was so excited to see her. She is the one that just had her baby recently and I haven't seen her in awhile so it was great to see her today. I still can't wait to meet her daughter, who is still too little for visitors due to her early birth. Now, I am able to relax and not do anything this afternoon. Makenzie is napping and I have no pressing obligations to take care of. But even with all of those good things, what made my day was getting to have lunch with Em from HomecookedEm!

You all, Em was the sweetest, most genuine, and kind person. We connected in so many ways. I am so thankful that I had the chance to meet up with her. And I know this is the first of many future get togethers. I have to say that I feel this is a "God thing" how we were brought together. A little background - we graduated from the same high school but found each other through the blog, are both dealing with trying to conceive and our body's changing and the emotions that brings, are both devoted to our faith, have sisters we are close to, Georgia Tech grad (aka smart & loving but get their geek on) husbands, among other random things. I feel we were brought together for a purpose and I can already feel that purpose with how much it lifted me up having such an enjoyable lunch with someone I can relate to in so many ways. If you don't read her blog already, please do. She is amazing. And even if you can't make it to your blog, please think of her in your prayers or if you're sending positive vibes my way, send some her way too. We both can use them and the peace they bring.

So, our lunch was great. We wen to The Red Hen Cafe, which is a small family-owned eatery that mainly has delicious brunch items. Great minds think alike because we both were eying the same things. Egg white omelette plates or a sweet potato waffle?? Yes, please!!! Although their waffle maker was broken and they couldn't do the waffle, so we just both got the omelet dishes. Mine had egg whites, monterey jack, mushrooms, and spinach. Served with fruit, bacon, and toast.

It was definitely enough to satisfy. I ate all the toast and fruit, then had about 2/3 of the omelet and 1.5 pieces of the bacon. The omelet was very filling because of all the oil it was cooked with. Not the best omelet I've had for that reason, but I still liked it well enough.

And you all need to know just how kind a person Em is. She brought me a little present.

It was filled with yummy bars. Including the illusive PB&J Larabar that I have wanted to try but can never find. Along with a Lunabar, Lunabar Protein bars, a Clif bar, and a Kashi bar.

And that girl is going to make an excellent mom one day. She even included a book and teddy bear for Makenzie. She may already have that Celestial Seasonings bear, but that girl can never have enough stuffed animals.

Her kindness seriously touched my heart. Thank you for such a wonderful meet up, Em! I really cannot wait to see you again. It will have to be soon.

  • What is the best part in your mind of blogger meetups? For me it is definitely bonding with someone who I know I share so much with.
  • Are you nervous for blogger meetups? I never really am. I always feel like I know the person so well to begin with. It just feels natural.
  • How many times have you gotten to meet other bloggers? I have met other bloggers (or people from the fitness forum I used to post on) quite a few times. I think I've met at least five. And there are so many more I would love to meet. I've gone to meet people when they have layovers in the Atlanta airport, in Orlando while my family is visiting in Florida, etc. So anyone in the South or that ever travels in the South that thinks a meet up would be doable let me know!
  • What bloggers do you REALLY want to meet? I couldn't wait to meet Em. I also can't wait to meet Lisa one day since I have "known" her for so long and we have grown in many similar ways. There are too many I would love to meet though!

  1. How fun. I have not had the opportunity to meet any fellow bloggers yet. However, I am going to Cathe’s NJ Road Trip and will be meeting 2 sisters who happen to be blogger buddies. So excited.

What a fun meetup! I haven’t had any meetups yet, but hopefully very soon!

  5. homecookedem says:

Awwwwww, you are such a sweetheart!! I had the BEST time with you today!!!! πŸ™‚ God most definitely wanted us to meet up so that we could be there to support and relate to one another. That was my favorite part of meeting you today – connecting with an amazing woman and knowing we both “get” each other. I said things to you that I would never normally say so casually to people, but I knew you would understand. I knew we’d have stuff in common and I felt like I already knew you, so I wasn’t at all nervous to meet you!! πŸ™‚ We will meet up again soon – next month for sure!!!!! Maybe Flying Biscuit next time?? Don’t forget to look up their menu, it will make you drool! haha! πŸ™‚ Oh and I totally agree about the omelette, disappointing that it was so oily. If we go again, we’ll have to call in advance and make sure their waffle iron is working so we can get our hands on a sweet potato waffle with cinnamon butter!! πŸ˜‰

Thanks for meeting up with me today!! It was the best part of my weekend and I am in such a happy mood right now!! πŸ™‚

  6. Aren’t you two just the cutest. I wanna meet up, damn u 700 mile distance!!

  7. You guys are so cute! That is so great that you met Em! πŸ™‚

  8. What a nice friend! I’m glad you got to meet up! I have yet to do a blogger meet up but they look like so much fun!

  9. Heather says:

meeting other bloggers is SO FUN πŸ™‚ it’s so fun to meet people you have so much in common with! i still get nervous though…but the thing is i’m usually pretty shy, so it’s not abnormal for me to be a bit nervous. if i could meet anyone it would be the Pioneer Woman – she is so cute, sassy, and i think i would have a blast with her!

  10. My first and only time meeting other bloggers was at FitBloggin’, and I absolutely LOVED it! I know many people think that it might be awkward at first, but I didn’t think so at all! It takes a lot to make me feel uncomfortable, haha. I hit it off right away with almost every blogger I met, and I left feeling like I made half a dozen BEST friends. It was seriously an amazing experience – something I never anticipated getting out of blogging. Now um, can WE have a meet-up one of these days, please? πŸ™‚

    • Tina says:

Ditto on the pretty, please! I want to meet you too. I can’t even remember what area you live in, but we will have to make it happen sometime. We should have figured something out when you were on your long road trip to Florida!

  11. jqlee says:

I don’t feel like a real blogger because I’ve never had a blogger meet up! Haha. I plan to do one in Chicago this summer when I move back after graduation though πŸ™‚

  12. inmytummy says:

I’m glad you had fun! I’ve met Em before and she is super sweet.

I do sort of get nervous to meet other bloggers. I worry that I am different in real life than I appear on my blog. But I don’t think I am, I just worry about it.

We should do a big Atlanta blogger dinner!

  13. Katie says:

How cool that you guys met! πŸ™‚

Never had a meetup. Sounds like so much fun though! And I love that Celestial Seasonings Bear haha – I want one πŸ˜‰

  18. lisaou11 says:

aww I love Em too and have always felt such a genuineness about her–even from her emails and posts–you can tell she just cares so much–just like you so Im sure it was a GREAT meet up!

I’ve met up with a few people–Becca and Marlo from the 02 boards who are now great friends and I have made a friend in Kacy (lowandbhold.com) from the blogs and we only live about 15 minutes away from each other.

and I hope someday very soon I get to meet you–you mean more to me than you know and there are many times when words you have said pop into my head and make things better for me in that moment :).

  19. lisaou11 says:

ps–your hair is getting long! I like it!

  20. How lucky! Blogger meet-ups are so much fun. I’ve only done one though. And I was somewhat nervous beforehand…it was like driving to a blind date. And I haven’t been on a date in a LONG time, so I was not used to those kinds of butterflies!

  21. Hallie says:

I like blogger meet ups! But they are a little funny to explain to non-bloggers. I’ve met Janet from Pretty Green Girl, Meghann from Graduate Meghann and Bobbi from NHerShoes (when they did the marathon in San Diego) and Lynn from The Actor’s Diet. I would love to do more blogger meet ups, because it’s so fun to get together with other people who “get” the way I think about certain things, if that makes sense.

  22. How awesome that you guys got to meet up! I was just telling Em how fun it would be if we could all have a big blogger party one day! What a blessing that you guys are able to support each other; it always amazes me the way God brings people together through even the most random ways like fitness blogs =)

  23. Tara Savage says:

aww thats wonderful you had such an awesome time with Em and connected so easily! You BOTH will be in my prayers <3 And I read your responses in the post below that posed all of the questions, I loved each and every one of your answers. <3

  24. Vee says:

It is not fair! I want to live in the States too!! πŸ™‚ It’s quite tricky for me to meet up with any of you guys. Maybe one day though, who knows. πŸ™‚ With that said, I feel very fortunate to get to know some of you guys – this blogging community is truly supportive and such a wonderful place to ‘hang around’! πŸ™‚

  25. Molly says:

I have never had a blog meet up. It is so sad! I feel like I am missing out on an essential part of blogging. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I am stuck in the middle of the United States….

Love the name of that restuarant.. Red Hen.. totally cute and perfect for a breakfast joint!

  26. I have never had a blogger date, but definitely think it would be so much fun! I just started blogging so I will give me some more time, but I have a few bloggers in mind that I would love to hang out with and get lunch/chat:)

  27. eatspinlive says:

What a great post girl-as usual πŸ™‚ That is so amazing that you have found such a wonderful friend through the blogging world! I am still fairly new to the whole thing and I have yet to meet anyone close to Wichita Falls Texas! All of the ladies from this community have been so inspirational and motivational and I wish I could meet everyone!! I will definitely keep you both in my prayers! Oh, and your omelete looks DELICIOUS!

  28. I love blogger meet ups, you really get to talk to people who share such similar interests! I’ve had one-on-one lunches and also big city meet ups, both of which are great fun!

  29. That sounds like fun! I have never met another blogger, unfortunately. I’d love to some day though!

By the way, that’s so cool that you used to go to Gatlinburg! I live in Spartanburg, SC.

  30. jsutera654 says:

I LOVED reading this recap!! You two totally have a TON more in common than I realized. I love it. Blogger meet-ups are awesome – I am meeting one of my first-ever blogger friends Heather this summer at the Cathe RT and cannot wait!! Though I have a feeling I should plan an Altanta trip soon since so many of you are in that area and I’d love to meet ya’ll one day soon πŸ™‚

  31. awww so glad you two met up! What a great recap – you guys have so much in common!!

I’ve only been on two and was nervous before both – i’d love to go on more though!

  32. Kelly says:

I haven’t ever been to a blogger meet up! There are so many I want to meet (you included) and I would also love to meet Em. and Julie (from PB Fingers) and Jessica (From How Sweet It Is) Oh I could go on and on! haha!

  33. Jennifer says:

Hopefully me and you can work something out and we can meet when you come to Florida in the Summer. That would be so awesome!

  34. I am SO excited you two were able to meet! Em is one of the sweetest people I have “met” – she is just so genuine and always seems to say the right thing. Glad you had a wonderful time together and hopefully there will be many more chances to meet up in the future. πŸ™‚

I’ve never met up with another blogger, but I would LOVE to. I think all that I’ve “met” on here seem so sweet and I have something in common with each one of them.

  35. I’m so glad you two had such a great time together!

  36. cardiopizza says:

Another blog meet up! How fun! That’s wonderful you all have so much in common and can share things that you are both dealing with at the moment.

I always love getting together with you for our lunches πŸ™‚

I’d also love to meet Lisa (i’m an okie) one day!
