Brain Fried Eggs

Posted: May 17, 2010 at 9:00 pm

I never thought my brain could be so fried without having a full time job. It amazes me how much stress you can incur in a day of being mommy, piddling in side jobs like tutoring, venturing out into new things, and waiting for a doctor phone call. I think hormones may be getting the best of me, because I seem to get overwhelmed and upset by things a lot easier recently.

Today began well enough with a good workout. I simply did some light cardio at the gym mixed between the stepmill, elliptical, and treadmill. My James Patterson book accompanied me and I was even able to finish it during my workout. If only the rest of my day could have gone as smoothly.

When I got home, I was getting Makenzie situated for her snack when she decided she wanted to push buttons instead and try to stand in her highchair. After many times of telling her no, her giving me a mischievous smile, and then ignoring me, I decided if she is old enough for those games then she is old enough for time out. We experienced our first pout session. Poor girl had to suffer 2 minutes an eternity sitting in one place and staring at the wall. She looks like she is suffering greatly, huh?

Then, I got brain fried throughout the day with too much computer time. Surprisingly, very little of it was spent blogging. I had to take a good chunk of time to come up with tutoring lessons to help the students I tutor prepare for the final exam. There is a lot of grammar and vocabulary to review. The remainder of my computer time was spent fine-tuning and adding to a little something special I am working on. I have been getting some quality writing practice and support the past couple of weeks and I won’t say more.

Amidst all that, I got the phone call from my doctor. The blood test I had Friday confirmed the pregnancy, but my hormone levels were low. They want me to come in again tomorrow to take another blood sample and check for the hormone levels to be increasing adequately. So good news, but not completely in the clear yet. Although nothing is ever really in the clear in pregnancy. But I trust God is doing good things here and it will be okay.

I have now just inhaled the perfect dinner for such a day. When I arrived home from the mammoth tutoring session, the hubs had just what I was craving. Comfort food in the form of breakfast for dinner.

Fried eggs, potatoes with ketchup, and some strawberries for sweetness and color. Now my tummy is happy and I can relax with some trash TV. Desperate Housewives season finale = pure trash but just the mindlessness I need right now. I guess I didn’t really fake it til I made it, huh? How did you do?

  • What is a dinner that can always help calm your nerves?
  • What is something that can set you off in a frazzled frenzy easily? For me it is suddenly having more on my plate than I expected. Totally had things sneak up on me today. I had NO CLUE their final exam was for the entire year instead of this semester. So I was only half prepared for tutoring and had to cram cram cram preparation in.

Oh no! Take a deep breath and do some yoga!
When things keep piling up, and those who I need help from or am working with don’t cooperate I get soo frazzled! I can be a bit of a control freak, so when things don’t go my way I panic a bit!

I usually get frazzled when I don’t work out. Like if I go a bunch of days without it, it just worsens my mood.

Hope you are feeling better now.

  3. Sophie says:

A warm bowl of soup or chili always makes me feel better. Or ice cream for dinner. Always cheers me up 🙂

  4. I hope your appointment goes ok!

I can’t wait to hear about the writing support you’ve been receiving!

  5. Traffic and just my commute home from work can realllllllllly set me off! I can go from happiest girl to angry road rage girl! lol NOT a god quality–I’m working on it!

Hi Tina, I am a reader and have been for a long time. I do really like you and think you have a nice blog for the most part. However, I was appalled when I read about your daughter and her being in time out with a picture of it, on a blog, online. I don’t think what you did in your home was wrong, but if you stop and think about the fact that you took a picture of her in time-out and putting it up seems a bit exploitative. I mean, don’t you think that is weird. I wonder what your daughter was thinking, being punished but having mommy take a picture of her. Sorry, it is just weird. Sometimes I think this is where blogs cross the line.

Your doctor will be able to help you with your hormone levels. All will be just fine. God is taking good care of you and your little baby!! 🙂

When people change plans on me at the last minute that really gets me in a frazzle, just b/c I’m SUCH a planner and like to know what’s going on in advance. Even though it kinda pisses me off in the moment, I know it’s a good thing for me to be forced to get out of my comfort zone and become more flexible.

    Have a great day!! 🙂

I’ll be praying about your pregnancy as I think of it:-).
I didn’t handle yesterday like I would have liked to. My husband and I share and car, and that car broke down in the middle of an intersection yesterday. About an hour before I was to go to one of my favorite yoga classes. I had already dragged my tired butt around for much of the day, I missed the class, and my dinner ended up being mostly sugar and bread.
Today is going to be a little different:-).

  9. Shannon says:

I will be thinking of you today and praying your blood test brings promising results. I feel good about this. I think everything is going to be just fine!

And I agree…breakfast for dinner is the ultimate comfort food. And mac n’ cheese 🙂

  10. True Monday huh???? I don’t necessarily have a specific frazzle trigger. I can be humming along just fine and then bam, one tiny little thing is what topples it all. Hugs!

  11. Aww hope you feel better! A dinner that can always calm my nerves is pasta. I think it’s the carbs, but it always puts me in a better mood!

  12. Lindsay says:

Awww! First time out! It’s so funny how children start testing the waters!

  13. lisaou11 says:

Hey! Fried eggs sound like the perfect dinner. Those never get old to me.

When I get frazzled, I usually try and take 5 minutes to just breathe and think it out and what my strategy is to get what I need done, done.

Glad you found out that you are indeed pregnant. I’ll keep praying that it goes along smoothly.

  14. Therese says:

Oh no the first time out! It’s so hard to be strong when they give you those puppy dog eyes!

Usually after a day like that my dinner of choice includes a bottle of wine 🙂 But considering your situation I think BFD was the perfect decision!

  15. Lindsey says:

Ohh look at her sad little face in time out. She is so adorable!

I am sure everything is a-okay, the doc is probably just doing his/her due diligence. Keep us posted on how it goes!

For me, a dinner that helps calm my nerves is one that is easy to make or made by my husband instead of me. 🙂

  16. Jennifer says:

I think I’m learning how to be a good mother just by reading your posts about M! She does look unhappy being in timeout but still so sweet at the same time. lol. Yea I’m with you on breakfast for dinner. I love making waffles, pancakes, and scrambled eggs. But my go to dinner for calming my nerves would have to be pizza just because it’s my favorite food and it makes me focus on how good it tastes rather than my stress at hand. You seem like you’ve got your hands full, I’ll be praying for you about your hormone levels and hopefully everything will start increasing as it should. Oh I sent ya an email yesterday just to let you know. 🙂

  17. cardiopizza says:

Ice cream for dinner always calms me 🙂

  18. Heather says:

it’s not very healthy, but fried chicken with mac & cheese and green beans…does wonders for my fried brain 🙂

  19. I’m still continuing to pray for your pregnancy, Tina – I know everything will be okay!

Any dinner that is prepared for me helps to calm my nerves. 🙂 But if I need to make up something fast (which I usually want, when I’m frazzled), I LOVE savory oats. There is something so comforting about that cheesy, warm goodness in a bowl!

  20. Pasta or soup always help to calm my nerves.
