Something old, Something new

Posted: May 24, 2010 at 6:00 pm

No, this isn’t a post about weddings. It’s about the old and new that made up my day.

Something Old: A bowl of oats for breakfast.

Something New: P(B)B & Co. Oats!

IMGP4109 IMGP4105

That would be Peanut (B)utter, Banana, & Coconut Oats. I love the variety you can get with oats in the morning by adding new toppings. As surprising as it is, banana and coconut were new toppings for me. I don’t normally have coconut on hand, but since I need it for a recipe later this week I had to take advantage of the stash in the pantry. Banana isn’t a favorite of mine in oats…until it sounded amazing this morning and absolutely nothing else would do. I better get used to that, huh?

Something Old: Chewing gum nonstop while dieting because I was trying to quell my appetite. Note: have not done this in a long time.

Something New: Breaking into my old gum stash so I can chomp nonstop because I have no appetite and it helps keep nausea at bay.

IMGP4113

That gum stash is almost 6 months old. Gum used to never last that long in my house. And it probably won’t survive the first trimester either now. How do like our kitchen “junk drawer”. Don’t you love the pretty cards? You can order them here.

Something Old: Going to spin class for a great workout.

IMGP4115

Something New: Not being ravenous after class and my body telling me the only thing it can stomach is a container of yogurt. Caramel Oikos + Non Sweet Vanilla Galaxy Granola.

IMGP4117IMGP4119

I love new goodies! I found the Caramel Oikos at the grocery store last week and this was my first taste. I’m in love. Galaxy Granolas sent me some granola to sample (review coming soon) and I added it to the granola for a little more boost. I’m in love even more.

Something Old: Spending Makenzie's naptime catching up on blogs and getting posts organized.

Something New: Seeing new readers commenting and loving all the new comments on the post about friendship. I loved all your insights! Keep 'em coming. 🙂 I also noticed the love for the new cookie recipe.

Something Old: Making a trip to the library.

Something New: Returning two books I didn’t even read. Sad day!

P1140207

The Marian Keyes Sushi for Beginners book just did not hold my interest. I was almost 100 pages in and still didn’t care for it. Not a good sign. I have too many other things I want to read and time is precious so I wasn’t going to waste it on that book. As for the new Sookie Stackhouse novel I was so excited about…I’m ridiculous and forgot I haven’t even read the book in the series before that one yet. Now I have to go back to the end of the waiting list. Le sigh.

Something Old: Having a lot to do during the day and not understanding where the time goes. Cleaning is a time suck.

Something New: Having a free Monday night because I am done tutoring for the school year! Sadly, that means less cash flow in my pockets…but I’ll gladly take the extra time in my day right now when my energy is zapped like Kelly Ripa without all her coffee.

Something Old: An old goodie for dinner in the form of veggies and “meat” I can actually stomach – aka “slow and low” sweet potatoes and some Morningstar farms Buffalo “wings”. I think those might be my first official craving because they always sound good.

Something New: The Bachelorette.

bachelorette.jpg (432×292) 400_afedotowsky_abc_100301.jpg (400×400)

Will I watch and get sucked in? Or have some pride? I must admit that the former will probably win out.

  • What’s a show that sucks you in even though you wish it didn’t?
  • What’s something new from your day?
  • What’s in your kitchen “junk drawer”?

  1. hahaha…I just ended my post with how I’ll be watching the Bachelorette tonight too (despite Ali getting on my LAST nerves). Once again – same wave length 😛

Girl, the new blog looks AWESOME! I’m going to look around some more right about…NOW! 🙂

  2. kate says:

Im also in love with Caramel Oikos. So good!

  3. I am looking forward to getting sucked into the Bachelorette!!!! 🙂

I don’t have a junk drawer! I hate having too much “stuff” lol

  4. OMG i am going to get addicted to the bachelorette!! sadly I have to be at work at 5am tomororw, so I will watchi t tomorrow but still AHHH i cant waitttttt! i love my guilty pleasure shows!!

i need to try some caramel oikos!!

  5. I am a gum aholic. If I reach into my purse and the package is empty, I have a mild panic attack. I sooo want to try the caramel Greek yogurt. I can’t find it in the individual cups just in the 4-pack. I have a kitchen junk drawer and a kitchen “snack” drawer that is filled with granola bars, power bars, and gum!

  6. Love Sookie Stackhouse novels, but love the show more!

  7. Hayley says:

I LOVE this post and I loved all of your “something news!” I can completely relate to the gum drawer – I call it that because that’s basically what that drawer is full of. I too am/was guilty of chomping on gum throughout the day to stave off my hunger. Bad Hayley – but I’m working on it. Plus I hate the fact that it leaves me feeling bloated. I completely gave up gum for a loooong time, but since becoming pregnant I’ve gotten back into the habit of chewing it again! It also helps with heartburn!

I am totally suckered into Wife Swap..UGH!! At least I only watch it once a week now – I used to actually tape the reruns…it drove my husband nuts! 🙂

Something New – trying on clothes in the dressing room and not mentally beating myself up about the way I look! 🙂

  8. I am so embarrassed to admit this, but I get totally sucked in by the Real Housewives of New York!!! (hands head in shame.)

  9. ‘the hills’ really gets me every time. i mean, it’s HORRIBLE but i secretly watch it because it makes me feel like a better person! i wonder what it’s like to have no appetite…but this does remind me that i do need to go buy some gum!

  10. Denise says:

Dancing with the Stars gets me everytime. I did not have 1 thing new today, not one. That is one of my favorite card sets.

  11. Katherine says:

So sorry to hear about all the hunger issues!
((it took me forever to get into sushi for beginners when I read it; the title is better than the book))

  12. Oh gosh I’m CRAZY about the Bachelorette! And Aly was my favorite!!

  13. Run Sarah says:

I actually liked Sushi for Beginners quite a bit! I am slowly getting sucked into the Bachelorette right now 😉

  14. Shannon says:

I have the Bachelorette on DVR. I know I’ll be sucked in!

I’m sorry you aren’t feeling well. I was really lucky and didn’t have morning sickness…but I will remember the gum trick for next time!

  15. homecookedem says:

Seeing your spin shoes really makes me miss spin class!!

I’d be interested to know the similarities/differences between this pregnancy and when you were pregnant with M. Did you have the same feelings with food with her? I wonder if women who are pregnant with girls have more morning sickness than women with boys… just got to thinking about that since I noticed Shannon said she didn’t have morning sickness. Also, at school, all of the ladies who have had girls have all complained of morning sickness, but the ones with boys all wanted to just eat everything in sight with no morning sickness. Interesting…

  16. Vee says:

Hi Tina, love your new blog! How exciting you have your own domain!!
I keep on watching American Idol. This season has been really good and sadly, I did not miss a single episode (talking about obsession, huh? :-)).

  17. Justine says:

That is my favourite granola right now!

  18. Katie says:

my junk drawer is filled with gum as well…in fact…it looks a lot like yours! 🙂

  19. Lindsay says:

The Hills sucks me in everytime!

Our junk drawer has lighters for candles, gum, and random coupons!

  20. I loved this something old/something new post!! What a great idea. I can’t imagine not being starving after spin class- pregnancy sounds like a very strange thing! Your pb & coconut oats look fantaaastic 🙂

  21. Definitely the bachelorette for me. I can’t help but get sucked it!

  22. Holly says:

I am a TOTAL gum addict. But I’m much better than I used to be! I probably chew 7 or 8 pieces a day, and I used to chew almost 15. 🙁 I just always need something in my mouth or I go crazy!

The Bachelorette sucks me in everytime – I get sucked in every season. And swear I’ll never watch it again. What a guilty pleasure. 🙂

  23. Oh goodness my kitchen junk drawer is filled with notepads. I have a serious obession with notepads! haha! I am always buying them and it drives my husband nuts!! Hey we all have our quirks….

  24. Cute post! I am in that habit with the gum… I never used to chew it, actually, I thought it was SO annoying watching peoples jaws constantly churning and listening to annoying gum sounds. But once I started dealing with weight gain and food obsession, I started chewing gum constantly to keep my mouth busy. But I don´t really want to be doing that anymore, I just haven´t figured out a good alternative.

  25. Likin’ the new site girl – I recently got an url too – come check out my new layout

  26. Awww, I’m sorry to hear about your tummy issues 🙁 Hopefully it passes soon!
My junk drawer is all junk…nothin fun!

  27. Ohhh I always have coconut on hand–I need to put it in my oats more often!!! YUM! Oh yea, I’m a gum fanatic…I have SO many different flavors floating around the drawers!

  28. Ashley says:

I couldn’t hold interest with Sushi for Beginners either. It makes me feel better that it wasn’t just me!

  29. ellie says:

I fell in love with coconut as an oat topping last year- so good with blueberries. I have picked up a few Marian keyes books but they never grip me. Sophie Kinsella, on the other hand… 😀

What’s a show that sucks you in even though you wish it didn’t? Supersize V Superskinny- do you have that in the US? So weird. They take two people at complete opposite ends of the weight spectrum and they trade diets for a wek. It’s horrible, but strangely addictive.
What’s something new from your day? ooh…nothing new today. Tomorrow is though! I am going to an eastern philosophy lecture on mindfulness… I never do thins like this, but it sounds interesting and I have no reason NOT to go!
What’s in your kitchen “junk drawer”? Gum up the wazoo…your reasons for gum spoke to me.

  30. Check out the gum stash! Love it- I usually have a 3-pack in my junk drawer at all times… along with god knows what else…

And coconut is a favorite oatmeal topping of mine- it adds a nice texture in my opinion…

  31. I love gum- I get bored without it!! It never lasts around me either, I go through a pack every two days or so! I’m in love with The Hills, though I wish I wasn’t because it’s so mindless and silly! I’ve been watching since the first season though, so it’s like a tradition for me 🙂 Hope you have a wonderful day!!

  32. Nicole, RD says:

Aww, Tina! Just make it through the first bit and I hear the nausea improves! At least I hope!! Poor thing! That gum stash in the meantime should help!

I am excited to watch the Bachelorette tonight or tomorrow…I didn’t get a chance to last night. I watch 90210…that’s embarrassing!

Something new from my day….hmmm. I’m going grocery shopping at lunch so I don’t have to do it after work!!

  33. Hey! Lots of things to comment about here! I guess I’ll just answer your questions! The Real Housewives sucks me right in and I get embarrassed! But there is actually a kid from my high school on the new batchelorette…his name is Steve. He wasn’t shown very much last night but he made it through the first round!
My junk drawer is filled with miscellaneous junk lol
New today? Nothing really…I did eat an organic, omega3 enhanced egg with my oatmeal this morning…I almost never do that!

  34. Sorry about the nausea/no appetite! 🙁
    Cute post, though!
In our junk drawer, there’s playing cards, scissors, sunglasses, and other miscellaneous junk!
    Have a great night, hun:)

  35. Hi Tina,
I just found your blog and look forward to following it!
I got hooked on Desperate Housewives in season 1 and have been watching it ever since. It’s one of those shows that I likely would have given up on a while ago if it wasn’t for the fact that I have followed it for some many years and really like the characters of all four women.
    Have a great evening!

  36. sooo did you give in & watch? i DVRed it & watched last night . 😉

  37. Sami says:

I’m a shameful Bachelorette addict. Haha. Mainly because we use the event to host girls’ nights for the women in my family to get together. It’s an excuse for some extended family time which we ALL look forward to every week. NO BOYS ALLOWED 🙂 Hehe.
