If It Ain’t Broke, Don’t Fix It
Posted: May 26, 2010 at 6:00 pmI’m glad most of you seemed to appreciate my honesty related to pregnancy and the experiences that encompass the first trimester. It was interesting to read the comments of both those that have and have not been through a pregnancy. I hope I didn’t put off too many of you who haven’t yet. 😉 Those of you who have, I loved reading how your experiences were all so different. It actually made me consider the fact that so far this pregnancy is exactly like my first one with Makenzie. Hmmmm….does it mean anything? Probably not. Especially since my gut already tells me this one is a boy.
I also want to reiterate that as much of a pain it can be sometimes, I know it doesn’t last long (I should be feeling on top of the world around July 4th) and it really is an amazing thing to experience. I love it! Even the “can I lay on the couch with some pizza and a bucket” parts.
Let’s move on to today shall we? I have to admit it was a pretty rough one. So far, the icky stuff doesn’t hit me until after lunch but this morning it came much earlier. I stuck to the banana, PB, and coconut oats combo I had the other day for breakfast because “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.
Basically, if I can stomach something once I will keep eating it until it no longer appeals to me. Don’t judge the lack of variety. I have limited options right now, so this rule works. Or tends to work. I started feeling awful shortly after breakfast. I ended up skipping my workout and just going on a quick walk with Makenzie & our dog Roxy around the neighborhood. Quick means 15 minutes so I could avoid feeling the need to hurl in our neighbor’s grass thanks to my increased sense of smell and the horrible aromas coming from their yard. Do they have dead bodies buried there? Perhaps ignorance is bliss and I shouldn’t say that. My neighbors are creepy.
After the walk, I crashed on the floor with Makenzie and some of her favorite books to tide us over until naptime. I was very happy for naptime so I could sit and do nothing. Or choke down the leftover half of my banana from breakfast while beginning this post.
I just continued feeling worse and worse as the day wore on. I curled up on the couch with Makenzie for some more reading and even a bit of TV watching. I want to know how my kid knows who Elmo is. She normally watches one 30 minute episode of some show each day and it is NOT Sesame Street. Darn gym daycare with a TV room. I bet she spends the entire hour I’m working out planted in the front row. She did get some activity today. In the form of dancing and helping put a smile on my face with her mad moves. That child can’t sit still the rare occasion I have the radio on and its playing Lady Gaga.
We broke from playing Ginger Rogers to have lunch. Katie – you are my hero! The “Almost Meatless Sloppy Joes” recipe is a lifesaver. I can stomach it and it’s a nice way to sneak in a bit of veggies and other healthy items. I enjoyed some leftovers from last night alongside a big mound of fruit.
Why is it I can handle fruit but not veggies right now? Even Green Monsters are starting to make me want to hurl at the thought of them. I have a feeling I will end up banish-ed (pronounced like Shakespeare) from the healthy living blogger world before long. Especially considering my afternoon snack was a few small, cheap lemon cookies thrown down the hatch before an emergency tutoring session.
Really kid? Cramming for a year’s worth of Spanish the night before your final is not going to save you. And it’s only going to make me grumpy. Thank goodness the extra $120 to line my pockets cures mood swings. The same way breakfast for dinner cures “I’m ACTUALLY hungry and NOTHING sounds good” blues.
Like I said - “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” so I’ll joyfully eat my over medium eggs, hashbrowns, and bacon. That’s right. We have a recycled picture above so you have to imagine 2 slices of bacon in there.
One more thing not to fix if it ain’t broke? Going with the blogging flow. I originally intended to do a post on some thoughts I had from The Biggest Loser Finale last night and things I dealt with after my show…like Body Dysmorphia and feeling “unworthy”. Instead I felt like writing about my day, so you will have to wait until tomorrow night for the other ramblings. Now I’m off to watch last night’s Glee & Parenthood episodes…because laying around all day still doesn’t motivate me to do much more than chill on the couch at night. Some quality time will be spent with my man as well. Love you, Pedro! 😀
- Since this is the week of TV show finales…which one was your favorite? Other than The Biggest Loser, the only one I’ve seen so far is Grey’s and I thought it was good.
- Did you like Sesame Street growing up? Nope! I still can’t stand it. I much prefer the “Word World” show Makenzie loves.
- What is one thing you like to do or eat that is not typical “healthy blogger” style? I think the entire next two months will fit under that category for me.
I loved Sesame Street as a kid! As for foods that don’t go along with the healthy living moniker- how about beer? Or I really like fake-o low-fat ice cream. Like Skinny Cows and stuff.
Your blog looks GREAT. Congrats on the move! I wont banish you from my healthy blog world, I love reading your blog- even minus the veggies and the cheap vanilla cookies. There arent to many blogs that include the ‘faith’ with the ‘food/fitness’ so I constantly check up on yours. Congrats again and I hope you feel better soon!
So far Grey’s has been my favorite. Big Bang Theory sort of disappointed me as a finale… and really I haven’t watched too many more.
Sesame Street creeped me out after the Big Bird movie where he got lost and turned blue. Nightmares ensued. True story.
Apparently I loved sesame street according to my mama! 🙂 I like Big Bird and the Count!
that avideo of M is so freaking cute!! LOL!
I think just about everything I do is non-traditional health blogger! haha, no jk. But I did eat half a pizza in one sitting once or twice a week 😉
I liked Sesame Street but didn’t really watch must tv as a kid, I think some of the newer shows my niece and nephew watch are pretty cute.
I don’t label myself and eat what I want, but the majority is decently healthy foods. It works for me 🙂
You’re reminding me of the days when I was early pregnant with Jordan. Do you remember that? Right before I found out and was wondering why I felt so weird, and then I posted it on O2, like 2 seconds after I found out. That was fun.
Your previous post when you called it the longest hangover ever, SO TRUE! That’s totally what it felt like. I remember only being able to handle raisin bran and peaches, so that’s all I ate for about three weeks.
I’m going to enjoy following you on this journey! 🙂
My daughter heard the music and rushed into my room yelling, “Dancing??!!” lol she and Makenzie can have a dance party
LOL – good luck to the tutor boy 😉
I totally agree that breakfast never fails when it’s dinner time and nothing else sounds good.
Oh my gosh…..that video is the cutest! A girl dancing to Gaga = a girl after my own heart.
I really loved Grey’s finale – and Modern Family’s, too. The others have been a bit disappointing!
I definitely am a Diet Coke addict – which would make many healthy bloggers cringe, I know. 🙂 I can’t help it – it’s my drug. I keep telling myself one day…
Ohmigosh…Tina…that video is giving me bad baby fever. Could she be any cuter?!?!
Oh Grey’s was SO GOOD!!!!!
Your daughter is so so so adorable! Precious!
Eat what you want girl.. no judging here! I can’t imagine that!
Oh puh-leze. If they haven’t kicked me out of the healthy living blogosphere, you’re SO good. I really enjoy reading as much as I can about these types of experiences so that I know what to expect when it’s my turn (in a million years).
I love Lost. But I am saving the finale for later. I cannot bear to watch it now. I need to drag it out, because I am SO sad it’s all over!
Haha, I eat a lot of things that will kick me out of the health blogging world. I don’t really actually define myself as a healthy living blogger, anyway. let’s see: fried noodles. White carbs. Fast food. hot dogs…
that video of M is SOOO FUNNY! I laughed out loud. She is such a doll!!
Love your honest musings over your pregnancy – thanks so much for sharing! I love Greys, never liked Sesame Street as a kid either. Hmm, I chew lots of gum and drink lots of coffee!
haha. i love your title. i say that phrase all the time. and the best line of this whole post? “Quick means 15 minutes so I could avoid feeling the need to hurl in our neighbor’s grass thanks to my increased sense of smell and the horrible aromas coming from their yard”
i love you being pregnant. because you are straight up.
I am glad to be through the sheer exhaustion of the first trimester. I still have times int he day when I’m tired, but nothing like it was! I think you are doing a great job listening to what your body needs….eating what you can tolerate and being as active as your body allows. Sounds like the formula for a healthy pregnancy!
I still have the Grey’s finale on DVR, but I’ve heard its really good. I was disappointed with LOST though. I invested so much time watching and they left so much unanswered!
I love your attitude girl. You might feel like crud, but you still seem fairly chipper and are enjoying every minute of it for what it’s going to bring. Love that video of M dancing. Such a doll! I watched Sesame Street as a kid. It was one of the few shows that I actually watched. We only had PBS, 4, 7 and 11 after all.
Lately I’ve been trying to go with the blogging flow too. Whatever I want to post about at the moment is what goes up!! And I’d say my sugar addiction is definitely un-blogger of me. I get a serious sweet tooth before bed!!
Oh my gosh – she’s so cute!
I LOVED Sesame Street as a kid but my brother always liked Mr. Rogers, which I hated! haha! I guess it is indictive of our personalities though. My brother is much shyer than I am and usually liked to move at a slower pace (just like Mr. Roger’s) where as I am all over the place and definitely a little hyper! (Enter Seasame Street!) I actually haven’t ever heard of Word World….is that a newer show? Since I dont’ have kids I definitely am not up on the shows that are offered today.
i used to watch sesame street all.the.time! this week i’ve only seen the dancing with the stars finale, which was what i expected 🙂 and food that i love? pizza and Ramen. there, i said it! i don’t eat them together, but i love them both!
I love the show Word World for my daughter! She loves picking out the letters that are in her name.
I agree with your “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. I will be 7 weeks pregnant tomorrow and right now the only thing I can stomache for breakfast is yogurt with mix ins. I try to pack a very nutritional punch in the yogurt by adding Chia seeds, high fiber cereal, maca and some kind of fruit. I feel so full so quickly so I have to keep the meals small right now even though I am normally a big volume eater. I will definitely be following your blog. I love your honesty!
I loved (or should that be love 😉 ) sesame street, but it’s wasn’t as big here.
Your oats look really good xxx
Gotta say, I’m a bit put off by pregnancy :S
…but your commentary is quite humorous!
Sorry your day was so rough…definitely just go with the flow and don’t fix what ain’t broke! Um, and watch out for your neighbours, lol.
Sesame St was one of the few programs I watched as a kid! My parents weren’t big on TV but Sesame St got the go-ahead.
Just ONE thing I do that’s not typical blogger style? Haha, well…there is the diet soda, yogurt messes for dinner most nights and I have never eaten avocado.
i tried to watch 24, but fell asleep. i love modern family – do you watch it? i love hearing about your pregnancy symptoms, especially as i’m actively trying to get pregnant…it’s just so neat to hear stories. : ) keep sharing!
Oohhhh my gosh I hope you put up more videos of Makenzie dancing around – that was too darn cute! I smiled throughout the whole thing, and I love how she grabbed a “dance partner” at the end. I think you’ll be seeing Lady GaGa add those moves to her dance repertoire soon. 🙂
Oddly enough I was ok with fruit and not veggies, too. I still love fruit! I tended to get a lot of cravings for that and cheese! Oh and anyone who’s been through pregnancy will COMPLETELY understand if you feel like you aren’t always making the healthiest food choices, but honestly I’m proud of you for getting down the breakfast and those sloppy Joe’s. My meals were a lot whiter than yours! I think you’re doing great.
I don’t watch a lot of the typical shows on TV right now, but I do love The Biggest Loser! I need to catch up on last week’s episode before I watch the finale, but I know who won. I’m curious to hear your thoughts! I do admit to watching the “Modern Family” and “90210” finales!
My favorite (and the only show I actually watch that had a finale this week) was LOST!
I threw a party and went all out on the decorations. Then I sobbed like a little baby when it was all over. It was a sad/happy ending so they were sad/happy tears!
The show has been a big part of my life for the last 6 years and I have actually been feeling sort of weird this week knowing its over!
Ok I think I am finally going to try your pb + coconut + banana oats. They look sooo yummy! Your daughter is too cute. I wonder if she does watch Sesame Street at the gym daycare?! I actually just applied to work in one, so I’ll let you know the secret goings-on =P
That Dominos last night was not healthy blogger (or dietitian!) style!!!
I LOVED Sesame Street growing up…my mom has home videos of family birthday parties of mine where I was watching SS instead of opening gifts or breaking open pinatas!
Grey’s was soooo good! Idol was alright – just happy that Lee won!
I can’t wait to meet M!!!!! I just watched that video twice b/c it makes me smile so much!! She is so stinkin cute, love it!! 🙂
Grey’s was my fave finale by far this year as well! Glad to hear your pregnancy is going well…those first months are tough! Hang in there!
