Saturday. How I love you. I love knowing that I don’t have as many to-dos to get done on Saturdays and therefore can sleep in a bit. I love knowing that fun things await me, whether relaxing or exciting. I love spending time together as a family and all curling up in bed together for a lingering 30 minutes in the morning. What a glorious day!

Today started off just like that, too. We lazed about until 8 am (yes, that’s late for me!) and then Peter decided to make us pancakes for breakfast.

He attempted to do lemon ones, but the lemon flavor didn’t come out and somehow made them more dense and a little dry. I still ate them with a drizzle of syrup though. I bet they would have been better dipped in some strawberry Oikos. Oh well. My man made an effort to treat me to breakfast, so I’m going to eat it!

I used the bulk of the day to prep for the lingerie shower/bachelorette party I’m helping host tonight. It turns out only around 10 people will be there so I had to limit the spread I planned on making. Knowing my friend’s preferences, that I had to travel with the food, and that drinking will be involved, I picked appropriate finger food.

Veggie Bars (recipe from my friend Angie but you can find something similar here)

IMGP6513

Spinach & Sundried Tomato Pinwheels (recipe from RecipeGirl – thanks!)

IMGP6512

Oreo Truffles to go with the pink & black polka dot theme

IMGP6519

Chocolate-covered strawberries (because, well, it IS a lingerie shower after all – thanks Melissa!)

IMGP6522

So many of you shared such great ideas that I definitely plan on holding onto for future parties and events. If my friend had me host the recipe shower (like we originally planned) I would have used all of them. Artichoke bites, fruit salsas, fruit/cookie pizzas, BLT dips, mango salsa, avocado-feta dip, and more. Check out the comments if you’re interested in any of those.

Well, have a great night all! Wish me luck! We’re partying it up in a Game Day Condo in my college town first and going out to the bars later. This could get interesting. Me, a 5 months pregnant chick, hitting up bars filled with a bunch of college students (likely using fake IDs) the first week after classes began on the #1 party school in the nation’s campus. Oh me, oh my!

  •  What do you love about Saturdays?
  • What’s the craziest thing you’ve had to do for a friend? I think tonight might top the list for me. I guess I owe her though for that time in Switzerland where she had to get all up in my crotch to help get out a tic.

  1. “Me, a 5 months pregnant chick, hitting up bars filled with a bunch of college students (likely using fake IDs) the first week after classes began on the #1 party school in the nation’s campus. Oh me, oh my!”

Haha, such a great mental picture!

  2. Food looks great. Have fun tonight. I love Saturdays because I don’t have to get up and go to work and it’s a day when I’m typically not on a strict schedule.

  3. Kelly says:

Wow! Food looks delish! Enjoy your Saturday 🙂

  4. The food does look fantastic … especially those Oreo balls. Whoever dreamed up that idea ought to be canonized — or shot. I can’t decide which. 😉

  5. janetha says:

those eats and treats looks so good! i have bookmarked this.. the pinwheels are awesome.

  6. Emily says:

Those pictures look … breathtaking. Especially the Oreo truffles. Oh my god. I’m drooling.

My fav part of Saturday? Kicking back, relaxing and having time to really commit to making a steller meal.

  7. I have a serious weakness for those oreo things. SERIOUS. I need to be doing marathon training to be around them since I can’t keep myself away.

    • Tina says:

I have a weakness too. I find myself making them whenever I have a good place to bring them. I can eat them, but they are ALWAYS gone by the end of the night too. I hate having to bring home an entire plate still full of whatever I made.

  8. All of your food looks so fantastic – I’m drooling at the computer! My favorite thing about Saturdays is being able to sleep in past 6:30! 🙂 I still have a lot to accomplish, but it’s definitely at a more relaxed pace and there’s time to space in some fun too.

  9. Shannon says:

What a sweet guy making a Saturday pancake breakfast!

I love those veggie bars…and Oreo Truffles! Yum!!

  10. Heather says:

i love saturdays for sleeping in and doing anything and everything i want to do…whatever that is 🙂 and you just reminded me that i need to make oreo truffles IMMEDIATELY!

  11. Heather says:

    I love taking naps!

  12. Ela says:

That’s a hilarious image – I hope you party it up and feel good next day too.

Sweet that your hubby fixed you bfast – and sweet of you to appreciate so too.

Have a great time – how sweet that you’re doing that for your friend. Putting on a food spread is a lot of work, but I think it’s also a lot of fun.

    love
    Ela

  13. Wow, girlie, everything you made looks FANTASTICAL!!!
    Hope you’re having fun!!

  14. Sarah says:

I love that Saturdays just tend to be a lot less structured. In this particular season of life, I really crave days like that.

  15. Tina you are such a trooper! And that was fabulous of you to make all those treats!
Hope it goes well and everyone has a good time:)

    • Tina says:

A trooper! LOL That’s what they were calling me last night for being out so late while pregnant. And for the body shot. You can read about that in my post from tonight. LOL

  16. Emily says:

Your shower spread looks perfect – tasty and portable. Good luck with the youngins at the bar. 🙂 Have fun!

  17. Have a great night Tina! The food looks fabulous!

There is nothing as exciting as seeing a pregnant lady in a bar 🙂 Well, except for a lady with a newborn 🙂

  18. All of that food looks really good!

It is hard to narrow down the craziest thing I have ever done for a friend but I do have a hilarious story from Wednesday night. I was crashing at a friend’s apmt and had just left to meet up with some people. All of the sudden she calls me crying so hard she can barely speak. All I could make out of her words were “why can’t I get in my apartment??” and then she hung up. I had her keys because she had planned to stay at her BF’s place, so I had to rush back to let her in. Her BF apparently was rude, and she was drunk,s o obviously an entire meltdown was imminent. Ohhh college.

  19. All the food looks absolutely delicious! I hope you had a fun evening 🙂 I have never been to a lingerie shower!

  20. Saturday is my favourite day – I love just being able to take it easy and do some of the things that I love like looking around markets, drinking coffee and eating out in cafes its just bliss!

  21. looks like a great spread! not sure i can top your story about the tic, that’s real friendship right there 🙂

  22. ashleigh says:

OMG all of that food looks so good! Oreo truffles? Amazing! Veggie Bars? I have never heard of those and they look/sound so good!

I hope you ladies had a blast!

  23. What I love about Saturdays is the freedom. It doesn’t feel like I have to accomplish anything because the week doesn’t feel quite imminent yet. Saturdays are such a wonderful, beautiful thing! I’m working on turning my Saturday mentality into Sunday today 😉

  24. homecookedem says:

All of the party food looks awesome!! Especially the oreo truffles… droooollllllll!! 🙂

  25. All of that food looks incredible! The craziest thing I have ever done for a friend is by far and away the time my friend Dom threw out her back and I had to take out her NuvaRing and put in a new one for her. Definitely won the friend of the year award for that one.

    • Tina says:

Oh wow! What a friend you are. I bet that was awkward to have to do. But sometimes you just have to do things out of love for a person.

  26. Becky says:

I love Saturday night plans. I don’t have to run on Sunday morning, so I always enjoy Saturday night dates or dinner with friends.

    • Tina says:

Saturday nights out always make me smile. I love the break from routine in them. That alone leads to a good time.

  27. Katie H. says:

I hope you had a lot of fun-the spread looks great.

Wow, a friend that will get a tick out of that region is a good friend indeed!

  28. Lee says:

    Yum!

I love Athens. Such a cute city. I don’t think I realized that you went to UGA.

  29. Jac says:

You made me want to make some of those!
