it CAN get worse
Posted: November 9, 2010 at 7:08 pmGod has a mighty good sense of humor. I have some downtime coming my way on Thursday as Peter uses up some vacation days before they expire at the end of the year. I guess God is having fun getting me ready to really appreciate and utilize that time. Yesterday’s fiasco at Walmart pales in comparison to today.
You know that spin class I went to this morning? The one where I had all of my good reflection time? Well, it was actually only half a spin class. A worker from the childcare called me out halfway through because Makenzie had gotten sick. She threw up all over their floors. Poor girl! She has never ever ever thrown up before. I felt bad bringing her in to the gym. I had no clue she wasn’t feeling well since she had acted normal all morning. We quickly hightailed it out of there with profuse apologies to the staff.
The rest of my day looked like this -
- sitting on the couch, with a puke bucket, snuggling my daughter and holding her hair back, and wanting to cry watching her feel so ill. All I have to say to that is…this is LIFE, people. And it’s still a blessing.
Oh…I also have to say, PLEASE God don’t let the queasiness I feel be my turn coming. I hope it’s just from having to smell vomit all day. And you’re welcome for that image. Have a good night. 😀
- Do you ever find yourself laughing at the absurdity of some situations? I think sometimes all there is left to do is laugh. Sometimes life is that ridiculous.
- What type of sickness is the worst to you? I hate stomach sickness. I handle it the worst. Give me pain, fevers, stuffy head, etc any day over a stomach bug.

Awwww, I am so sorry the lil gurl is so sick, poor baby 🙁
i hope she feels better real soon!
Aww I hope M is feeling better now!! And I also hope that you don’t feel sick either. At least you got half a spin class?!
Hopefully tomorrow is better! I hate being stomach sick 🙁
Oh no! Two of my girlfriends’ kiddos got the bug yesterday and spent the night throwing up…I guess it must be going around the country! I think they were better after 12 hours, so hopefully the worst is over for you guys!
ah no! Poor m. I’m sure oyu were a great comfort to her!
Aww!! Poor little M!! I hope shes feeling better soon. Being sick really sucks.
I agree with you, stomach bugs are the one sickness that get me feeling really sorry for myself. I dont handle them with anything that could be considered maturity OR grace!
Poor little M! And poor mom 🙁 I’m sure the queasiness you feel is just from smelling throw up all day… no way you’re coming down with it- think positive!! 🙂
Poor baby girl! I hope she’s feeling better!
Oh boy! I remember one night when the kids were really young – Both under 3 y/o. I hadn’t had a good night sleep in forever and the stress was high. I just needed one night. One night off to decompress. Steve told me to head downstairs and not come back up until the morning. I took a tylenol pm, glass of wine in hand and watched a chick flick and just waited for sleepyville to come over me.
I started hearing some strange bustling around from up stairs and I poked my head out of the door and asked up the stairs “everything ok up there?”
Yes! Fine!
(brief and to the point).
hmm…
A few minutes later I hear the laundry going. WHAT? Not likely…so I peek my head out again and see my husband at the top of the stairs holding the baby, with puke covering his whole left side. I start to come up the stairs and he tells me “no no! I’ve got it covered”. I ask “where’s the boy”? Silence.
I head upstairs to find the entire kid room covered in puke. Both kids are upchucking like crazy…
So we both “sleep” on the floor in their room…taking turns getting up to run the washer and drier again and again and again because they puked ALL NIGHT LONG. We totally ran out of jammies, sheets, everything.
Brought us closer together <3
Oh…and try staying awake through the night with a tyl pm and a glass or two of wine…not as easy as you might think…
Oh my! Yea, that would be a ROUGH night. How hard to see both kiddos so sick…and be so exhausted yourself. Yikes.
Yes, you are queasy from watching that all day. You will be fine.
(This is me sending positive vibes your way)
I’m with you–I cannot handle stomach bugs. I can fight my way through anything else, but if I have a stomach bug I am down for the count.
Hope the little one feels better soon!!
Poor little M!! Poor you! I will be praying for ya guys 🙂 I agree about some situations.. today I got diagnosed with eczema … it’s everywhere… including my butt LOL. You’re right-it’s life!
Ay chihuahua, that is no bueno! I hope she feels better soon 🙂 I laugh ALL the time at things and situations where I shouldnt be. I can’t help it, there is always something to chuckle about right? Like when I am ridiculously busy at work. I’m talking so busy I can’t drink water b/c I dont have time to go to the bathroom and people ask me how I’m doing and I say with a smile and a laugh “I”m super wonderful fabulous, how are you??”
I hate any kinds of sick b/c I become a big baby but I would have to say throat is the worse for me. when I have strep, I seriously feel like I’m dying.
I find myself laughing at situations a lot lately- it’s easier than getting upset- like last weekend when my car got towed visiting DC!
I hate stomach sicknesses, too- throwing up stinks!
Ohhhh yuuccckkk poor M and poor YOU!!!! I hope she feels better soon and I hope you stay healthy. I’m so sorry 🙁
I hope M feels better soon. I hate throwing up! Fortunately, I rarely do it. I hope I didn’t just jinx myself.
I rarely throw up either. Sometimes its actually a pitfall because I will feel SO nauseous and know if I threw up I would feel better…but it just doesn’t happen. So far I’m still in the clear. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Awwe I hope she feels better!
Nooo…poor baby 🙁 🙁 🙁
I DO laugh a lot – it’s so much better than getting mad. I always get mad first but then I just have to be like WOW, is this happening?!
Poor baby girl – i’m so sorry she’s sick! I hope she feels better soon!
HUGS for you and M. Hang in there!
Hope your little one feels better soon! Poor thing! and poor you!!!
Laughing at the absurdity of some situations? Absolutely! I just wrote a post the other day called “A Day In The Life of Falling Off The Wagon” It was a day of crazy sleepovers, tantrums, and a lot of puke! But as you say, it’s LIFE. It’s my wild and crazy life and that day, for whatever reason unbeknownst to me, was ordained by God! LOL
Worst kind of sickness is definitely stomach. I’m a nurse in my previous life. I can deal with ANYTHING but vomit. I always joke and say “I’d rather break both legs than puke”. I’m sooooo bad about it that I can’t even wash sheets or towels. I’ll throw them out. I know that’s crazy..but that’s how much I can’t stand it.
Hope she’s feeling better soon and hope your queasiness is nothing other than from dealing with it.
I hate to throw up. But I agree that being any kind of sick at all sucks.
I totally have those days where it’s murphy’s law. At the end of them, I just laugh if anything goes wrong. People around me think I’m crazy, but if you can’t laugh through a day of everything going wrong, how do you survive it?
Poor M! I hope she’s feeling better soon, and that you don’t get sick too!
I’m learning to laugh at tough situations, and see the bigger picture. It’s not easy! Hope you do not catch that bug 🙁
It’s the worst when your little one is sick! All you want to do is make them better. Hope she gets better real soon and that you don’t get it!
I know. Its such a helpless feeling bec you would take it for them if you could.
You have to laugh or you would be doing nothing but crying! I hate throwing up. Especially now since it causes me excruciating pain due to my abdominal surgery. Please don’t get sick Tina! I feel for ya sweetie, hang in there. I hope M feels better soon!
Hah, yes. Today, I was thinking about my boyfriend and about our first date. After a month of totally awkward interaction, we went to a movie. First, the armrests would NOT go up, making it really hard to hold hands or cuddle. Second, the movie ended up being about a couple’s slow and painful break-up. After FINALLY getting the courage to go on a date, it ended up being SO ridiculous and awkward that we just laughed.
I hope you and M both feel better and have great, healthy days tomorrow!
And I agree about stomach illness. My GI tract is a piece of junk and it is so physically and emotionally trying.
Oh no I’m so sorry to hear that!! I hope Makenzie feels better soon. I’m NOT a puker at all. I can count the times I’ve thrown up on one hand, and even getting mind-shatteringly drunk (aka being 17 and thinking being hammered is the coolest thing ever) won’t make me puke.
Funny story to cheer you up: my brother and I are both very prone to motion sickness, though it’s uber rare that either of us actually throws up. Well, when my brother was about six the whole family was on the plane to Europe, and there was turbulence during takeoff. My brother looks at my dad, then without a word puked ALL OVER him. Poor dad had to sit there for seven hours, drenched in vomit. Fun stuff.
Oh my goodness, poor Makenzie! I hope she feels better and that her first time being sick didn’t traumatize her too much!
Oh poor baby girl. Hope she feels better quickly. I think being sick throwing up is the absolute worst. I hate hate hate to throw up. And yes, there are definitely times when I just have to laugh at myself, at the situation, at life.
I had food poisoning last Christmas and that was the. worst. sickness. ever. So yes, the throwing up is the worst. When it’s every 15 minutes, it’s horrible.
I hope you don’t have Makenzie’s bug! And I hope hers is only a 24 hr bug and she is better tomorrow.
At Christmas time?! How awful!!!
So sorry for sweet Makenzie!
I totally agree. Stomach sickness is the worst!!!
Hope everyone is feeling better soon!!
oh no! poor sweet girl…i hope you’re not next! i hate stomach stuff more than anything in the world…throwing up is the absolute worst!
Oh no! One of my biggest fears of being a mommy! How to take care of a sick child.
I agree with you. Stomach sickness is the worst!Hope everyone is feeling better soon!Thank you for sharing this to us
I’m with you – throwing up is the very worst of the worst – I’d take anything else. And my body’s actually internalized that: I pretty much never throw up – get trouble out the other end instead.
But even so, I think your Walmart story was worse. I’m so sorry poor M got sick like that for the first time – what a trauma! But at least you could love her and it will pass, whereas the Walmart story was an emblem of all kinds of things wrong with society…
Hope you both feel better!
love
Ela
I hope you both are feeling better. There is nothing worse then tummy woes except I hate having a sore throat 🙁 I agree you have got to have a sense of humor in life 🙂 I laugh at myself and situations all the time and yes God does have a great sense of humor.
Hope you’re both feeling better this morning!
POOR THING!!!! Both of you! I agree, stomach sickness is the worst. I cannot do anything if I feel nauseous. 🙁
Get well soon little M!
Oh, no! Feel better, M!
oh god. SO SORRY 🙁 i really hope you dont get sick. stomach bugs are the absolute WORST!!!! thinking of you 🙂
Oh so sorry your little girl feels bad! It’s the worst when our kids are sick and we can’t do anything for them but just be there. Hope you don’t catch it! Saying prayers for your family. 🙂
Poor M!!!
2 years ago I was staying with my sister/bro in law/niece and Flora (niece) was not feeling well, just runny nose, that sort of thing. Well, she had a hard time falling asleep and my sister decided to use that booger sucker thing and I felt so bad for Flora — she had no idea what was really happening and she screamed and screamed. I felt bad for Flora and my poor sister who was just trying to help! Sick kids is the saddest thing 🙁
I hope you and M feel good today!
Oh man, that is awful! Poor M!! I’m with you – any sort of stomach bug, I do NOT handle all that well. BLECH!! Hang in there.
Awwww, poor M! 🙁 I hope she feels better soon, and that you don’t get sick! <3
Poor baby!
I actually get through life by laughing… it makes things so much better! The first Thanksgiving we hosted was started by a clogged toilet… and the whole house smelling like poop. I was stressed out to begin with, and that made it so much worse. We were standing there with all kinds of implements, trying to unclog it, and we both just looked at each other and laughed. It made the situation so much better. That, and when my brother showed up with a plunger and bloody mary mix 😉
Poor M! Hope she’s feeling better now! Being sick is never fun.
I get that “I have to throw up” feeling quite a bit when I’m stressed or even just have a cold. I rarely ever actually throw up. It’s actually kind of annoying, but I feel like I’m going to, and then nothing happens. I’ve had nights where I’ve sat by the toilet for 15 minutes to a half hour because I felt like I was going to be sick. Not fun. I think I had H1N1 last winter–felt like crap for a week straight. That was NOT cool. We only had three days of classes that week, but I only went to one because the other two I just could NOT handle moving.
I also hate sinus infections. =\
I agree with you, in tough situations a good laugh can help a ton, even if it is out of sadness/stress/frustration.
I hope M feels better soon!
Honestly my heart aches when little kids throw up. I hope she feels better soon! Lots of fluids (which of course you already know) but thats the nurse in me, can’t help it 🙂 There isn’t any illness that makes me queasy (and I’ve seen it ALL). My heart just breaks because I hate seeing others suffer, and the best I can do is take care of them
Hope M is feeling better and that you don’t get sick! I have a fear of getting sick to my stomach. I absolutely hate it.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from praying it’s that God sure has a unique sense of humor 🙂
