1-2-3

Posted: February 24, 2010 at 4:05 pm

This post will be as easy as, you guessed it, 1-2-3. Three things to say. Well, actually I have a whole ton more I could go on about, but to keep your interest I will limit it to three more pressing things and save the others for a later post. Plus, it keeps ya on your toes. ๐Ÿ˜‰

1) Reminders: Please continue to vote for Miss Makenzie in the contest. Yesterday, there was one child's number who was obviously getting computer generated votes. Every THREE SECONDS a vote would go into theirs and they racked up over 4000 votes in only a few hours. Who knows where it is at now?! Peter, being the computer nerdย geniusย he is, was able to figure out exactly how they were doing this. And even though we could do the same, we don't stoop to that level. Instead, we are trying to get the word out for people to vote the honest way (aka friends, family, and social media) so if you can continue to help us out that would be great. ๐Ÿ˜€ And for the record, it does seem that the voting has been changing to keep the computer stuff from working as you actually have to click a button now instead of there being an ability to automatic refresh. Click HERE and then choose #24! Thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚

Vote for Me!

Another reminder - enter my giveaway for Gnu Bars. Open through Friday night. ๐Ÿ™‚

2) Prayer Requests - Last night my sister, brother, and mom were supposed to come over for dinner and to hang out so I could get some extra visiting time with my brother before he leaves in a week. Well, on the way up here they got in a wreck on one of the main highways between where I live and where they live in Atlanta. It was not a serious wreck, but the timing is just AWFUL. A car rear-ended them and while, fortunately, there is not much damage and none of them had to go to the hospital, it still worries me a lot. The main issue here is that both my mother and my sister were in car accidents less than a year ago, both of which are just now getting resolved. None of these accidents have been their fault and none of them seemed serious at the time, but as time went on a lot of issues arose. From my sister's accident a year ago, she has now lost feeling in her left foot permanently. From my mom's accident a year ago, she ended up in severe pain about a week afterwards and it was due to herniated discs in her spine. Which she had to have 3 surgeries for in the last 6 months alone. Her last post-op checkup was on Monday morning...and Tuesday night she gets whiplash again because of this THIRD accident. So, please pray that my mom's neck does not incur more serious damage from this. Please pray that any insurance issues are resolved quickly, unlike their last situation. In fact, my sister JUST got a car to replace the one that was totaled in her previous wreck not even a week ago! And that's the one that was wrecked last night. Luckily, its not totaled and only the rear bumper will need work done. I just hope this time around everything is as pain and worry free as possible for them. They have both been through so much recently, way above and beyond these accidents, and I hate to see them suffer in addition to all the other worries they have already been facing. Thank you in advance for your thoughts and prayers. ๐Ÿ™‚

3) New Fun Workout - To lighten things up a bit now, let me tell you that I am SO glad I stuck around for my workout this morning! As you know, I have not been feeling that awesome lately. Every night through the night and then in the morning my chest, nose, throat, ears, etc feel very clogged and it hurts to swallow, headachey, etc. As the day gets going and I get moving, I do feel a lot better so I have decided to keep up with workouts this week. Just taking it easy when needed. For example, Monday I went to spin and didn't push myself too hard and yesterday I rested because I had to tutor and I was in a bit more pain. Today I felt great after breakfast, so I packed up M to head to the gym, ready to kick some butt in a Group Kick class.

I go in to the group fitness room, set down my water bottle, take off my jacket, and look around to see....steps! Apparently today's class was switched to a Group STEP workout instead of Kick because the instructor was sick and the only sub was the step instructor.

What to do? Go home since I'm already not 100% and don't know if I feel up to a new workout? Or stick around since I couldn't stand the thought of getting on a cardio machineย have done a good bit of step at home with my Cathe Friedrich DVDs? I figured why not give it a shot? I normally don't care for group step classes because the ones I have taken in the past are either not challenging enough or way too dancy for me to follow along well with if I haven't done the same moves numerous times (one of the only reasons I can do Cathe step...many times to try a workout without embarrassing myself in a class until I get it) ๐Ÿ˜‰

I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised. The Body Training Systems Group Step setup was way more athletic and it got me moving and the heart pumping really well. I don't think it's as good as Cathe, but I still loved it. And I am actually planning to now incorporate a class into my workout rotation. The more you get to know me, the more you will see that I go through phases of workout preferences. Sometimes I hate cardio and only want to lift heavy weights; sometimes I hate classes and only want to do the stepmill & elliptical; sometimes I want to workout at home more than the gym.

Right now, I am more into cardio and less emphasis on weights and I only want to do classes at the gym. For everything. My attention span for cardio and my desire to lift heavy have both gone down the pooper since my fitness competition and since they fit better with not pushing my body while trying to conceive. I have a tendency to try to kill myself with a tough workout when doing my own thing. Not bad for normal circumstances, but not good when wanting to keep my body out of physical stress. I simply want to do fun workouts and not have to think or plan everything. Enter classes. Kick, Power, Spin, and now Step as well. Plus, the motivation of others is an added bonus. ย I love being open to my workouts and being able to switch things up without stressing. Gym? Home? Classes? Sole workouts? Lots of weights? Lifting lighter? All sound good to me! No plan has to be perfect. Just get your body moving any way you enjoy. That's how this whole fitness thing becomes a lifestyle anyways. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Okay, so there it is. 1-2-3. Now 1-2-3 questions for YOU!

  1. Do you ever switch up your typical schedule? How often? Or have you been doing the same type of routine for a long time and still enjoy it just as much?
  2. Have you ever been in a wreck or had a surgery? From yesterday's post, you can read about my worst wreck. Although only 1 car was involved...and my body completed the rest of the wreck. I had two surgeries to repair my elbow from that one. No others.
  3. Have YOU voted for M yet? Pretty please tell me you did! But don't lie! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  1. So sorry to hear about the accident! Don’t you just love Cathe DVD’s for the very fact that if you trip up or mess up, no one knows! LOL. After STS, I started trying to change up my rotations every 6-8 weeks. I have been doing a Total Body Training rotation that sort of mimics STS but in an undulating pattern. This is my last week. Need to find something else now.

  2. Vee says:

So sorry to hear about the accident. My prayers go to your family!
    1. Currently I am mixing things up as I’m about to qualify as Exercise to Music instructor and has to try as many different classes as possible (my assignment – see I take them seriously ;-)). I usually mix things up every 5-7 weeks
    2. Fortunately no accidents for me, had a few surgeries in the past though (knee & foot).
    3. Yes! Many, many times! Go M!

  3. morriskr says:

    1. I’m just like you and go through the same exact phases!
    2. I’ve been rear ended twice and then I also ran a red light and crashed into someone before. Both were very minor though, thank goodness. The surgeries I’ve had were all cosmetic so not needed, LOL!
    3. Yes I voted.

  4. LindsayRuns says:

So sorry about the wreck, such bad luck! Hope it all works out well and quickly. I’ve been voting when I can!! I love the idea of routine, but it doesn’t always work for me the way I like. ๐Ÿ™‚ that’s ok!

  5. Mellissa says:

    1) I get bored if I do the same thing, I tend to switch things up every 3-4 months

    2) I have been in 2 car accidents, one which resulted in quite a few stitches under my chin. I also tore my ACL in High School and had 2 surgeries on it.

    3) I voted again today ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Marcia says:

    1. As much as i would love to switch things up..I can’t do it as often as I like. I teach 5 group ex. classes a week ( soon to be 7) and I run! I squeeze in lifting 2x/week as well. When I do fit other stuff in it’s usually Cardio Kickboxing or Zumba! I don’t so classes that incorporate weights because they don’t really support my goals.
    2. I was once in 2 very minor car accidents. Prayers to your family.
    3. Voted–again and again! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Luck!!!

  7. Marcia says:

oh..only surgery was wisdom teeth and ummmm an episiotomy(2x)! OUCH..does that count?!?! ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Yay, the link to vote for M worked today! I’ve voted! My prayers have already gone out and will continue to come your way. I’m so sorry for your family. Hopefully this time the recovery will be faster- both physically and financially.

  9. trying to concieve?! are you having anpther baby?!?! ahh that is so exciting!!

i always switch up my schedule(if you mean workout wise) I love trying differnt things and also shocking my body that way! I keep it new and fresh and besides that I get bored if I stick with the same ole routine for too long!

  10. lisaou11 says:

Hey! so sorry about your family :(.

I think I voted about 5-6 times today for M! My fingers are crossed that those cheaters don’t win.

And as far as injuries…YES. I’ve had both my ankles broken at the same time, both wrists stress fractured at the same time, a broken heel bone & ruptured achilles tendon which required screws to be in, torn ligament in my ankle—the list really goes on and on. I guess that’s what you get with Gymnastics sometimes ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. Vicky says:

Thank god your family is not hurt!

    3. I voted for M so many times already ๐Ÿ™‚ Pity we can’t see where she’s at anymore…

    2. No major car accidents, but i was in a pretty bad motorcycle accident, landed on my head and had a breast bone sprain, boy did that hurt!! As for surgery, too much to tell you. I’m just thankful that everything has eventually turned out well and it’s also given me a very strong opinion about elective surgery.

    1. I go through periods of almost all cardio to all weights and everything in between. Right now i do what i can cause i’m still so bloody tired … 14 weeks, should be getting better any time now!

    Vicky

  12. I usually switch things up so I don’t get bored…Some weeks I’ll just do the treadmill, sometimes just the elliptical, sometimes both in the same day!

Ill be praying for your family! I have been rear ended once when I was younger while in the car with my mom and grandma. i was so scared..i remember it hurting!!! my grandma and i were fine but my moms neck was really hurting her and she had to go to the ER but she ended up being fine.

and i just voted for your daughter! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. M is too precious!! I will vote for her!! And yay for not stooping to the other person’s level ๐Ÿ˜€
So sorry about your family! they will be in my prayers.

  15. I’m so sorry to hear about your family! I’ll be thinking about them.

Have you ever tried Les Mills? It’s similar to BTS, but with WAY better music and moves. My gym in Charleston had Les Mills, but since I’ve moved to the upstate, I’m stuck with BTS. I’m very very sad. ๐Ÿ™

    • Tina says:

My gym in college had Les Mills classes and I remember them being a lot like BTS. I haven’t taken them recently to compare though. And there are some gyms that have Les Mills classes, but they are so much farther away. So BTS classes it is then ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Vicky says:

Voting is closed? it says Feb 25 at 9pm…

  17. So sorry about your mom and sister’s wreck Tinabell ๐Ÿ™ Of course you know I like to switch up my workouts frequently to things I enjoy!! And I have voted for M lots of times and will be visiting today again… not sure when it ends need to remind myself!!

  18. Jennifer says:

Hey Tina, I’m sorry to hear about that wreck. I will definitely be praying for your family. That Atlanta traffic seems to always be bad! We have some close friends that live in Marietta and we would stay with them every summer and then go to a Braves game. My Dad tried to talk me into driving to Atlanta to the game when I had just turned 16 and I was like, no way. By the way, have you tried a Think thin bar yet?

    • Tina says:

No, I haven’t tried a Think Thin bar yet. I have really been wanting to though. Someday. LOL

And cool, that you visit Atlanta. Perhaps if you visit again we can have a meet up ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. Melissa says:

Just read your post this afternoon… But still sending prayers to your family!
