Snow Day!

Posted: January 13, 2011 at 12:39 pm

After a bit of a rough start to the night last night, we finally settled in and had a good evening. Braedon is a super-star nurser and slept relatively well too. You know…for a 2 day old. I figured I would sleep better without him inside me.

So far we have started the day out nicely. We all woke up around 7 am and then got everyone fed. After doing my share to fill the little man’s tummy, I made myself this glorious bowl.

Yes, glorious. I’ve been eating hospital food so glorious describes it perfectly. 😉 Some oats cooked with cinnamon, a container of peach chobani yogurt, a dollop of pb, and a handful of raspberries. I had to add that special touch to reflect my mood right now. If you didn’t already notice – I am extremely happy these days.

We will likely just chill here the rest of the day, unless we can get out to the pediatrician appointment they had us make. Otherwise, that will wait until tomorrow.

With that, I leave you some photos of Makenzie on her first big snow day. She is too adorable to not share this moment I had with her. We took her out on Monday morning to play and she loved it. Especially the snow angels. Although, it is hard to tell from that picture. LOL Hard to believe baby B was still in me in these photos…waiting to make his appearance about 12 hours later.

Question of the Day – Are there any ways you don’t like oats? I can eat them hot or as “yoatgurt” but hate hate hate them as overnight oats. GAG!

  1. Such cute snow pictures! Ok, I like overnight oats – but I heat them up the next day. I cannot stand cold oatmeal. YUCK

  2. BIOCHEMISTA says:

My “overnight” oats are just oats soaked in h20 then I heat them up in the microwave and add the rest of the fixings. I think the soaking overnight saves time in the microwave. But I agree, other overnight oat varieties that I’ve tried, no like.

  3. Cold oats sound awful to me, but I do enjoy some warm, comforting oats on snowy days 🙂

  4. Ha! I only like overnight oats. 🙂 But that’s mainly because I’m super lazy. And all my kids eat it, so the crockpot comes in handy. I need to experiment though with some new oat breakfasts. What are your oat breakfast concoctions?

  5. So sweet! Love the snow day photos! 🙂

I love oats. In every form, but nothing can beat warm stovetop oatmeal! 😀

  6. Sarah says:

So adorable 🙂 I love the snow angels. I love oats but I agree with Emma, warm stovetop oatmeal with banana is the best (tastes like home).

  7. I’m with you on the cold oats GAG! Love the snow pictures. 🙂

  8. I loooove oatmeal. I have it almost every day. Love the smile with the raspberries! 🙂

  9. Tooc ute. I pretty much dont like oats no matter what.

  10. Dorry says:

Such cute pics of M! Glad to hear baby B is nursing easily – that’s a huge blessing! I love my oats hot, almost always with a banana whipped in. Call me crazy but I’m not a fan of nut butter in my oats. Peanut butter usually comes in my afternoon snack with an apple!

  11. What a little angel! Glad your 2-day-old baby boy is doing wonderful!

I don’t like oats. At all. In any way. Sad.

  12. Julie says:

What a perfect little snow angel!!

Oats aren’t my thing. Sometimes I do eat them this way, though:
heated up with cottage cheese and cubed apples and cinnamon and sugar. Something about how the cottage cheese melts makes this meal for me on a cold winter day.

I also love using oats in muffins, too.

  13. Overnight oats rock my socks, but only if made with kefir or coconut milk yogurt. Does something to the texture I’m really fond of 🙂

  14. Katie says:

Such fun snow pics! Your daughter is so cute! I remember loving the snow when I was little and making snow angels! So funny baby B made his big debut shortly after those pics!

I love my oats cold the best! I dont know why, but its just better that way to me ; )

    Have a great day!

  15. I like oatmeal…but I’ve never had overnight oats, and I’ve never thought of making oatmeal and then mixing yogurt into it. I guess I’ve got a long way to go when it comes to oats!

  16. Shannon says:

Have a wonderful cozy day with your family. I enjoyed being snowed in with my family yesterday. Oats and hot chocolate made it even cozier. I am in the minority in the food blogging world, but I don’t like peanut butter in my oats.

  17. Stephanie says:

CUTE pics! M looks so adorable as a snow angel. I love oatmeal in all ways. Baked is awesome!!

  18. Heather says:

Cold oats creep me out. NOT A FAN.
What a cutie all wrapped up in her snow gear! Glad you had a good evening. 🙂

  19. Yay, you are happy and things are runny smoothly! I am so happy for you right now! I am an oat lover just about anyway you can eat them!

  20. M is such a cutie! Glad to hear you are settling in with baby B 🙂

I like oats, same day oats lol Never tried overnight oats and have no desire too.

  21. I am so glad that you are getting sleep! And I can’t believe that you’re able to still blog and write such great posts… I bet it’s a great “break” time for you! Thankyou, FFF husband, for pitchin’ in so much so Tina can still have her “me” time!

    • Tina says:

you got that right. It is definitely my me time and it is helping SO much. I had nothing as my own after M and really, really struggled emotionally.

  22. Kathie says:

ive never had cold oats and reckon i probably wouldnt like it. i prefer them warm .. they make my tummy happy.

your daughter is adorable. may i ask how old she is? (im a new blog reader here)

  23. Jess says:

YUM, your oats look so good! I am so impressed by you, esp witih the blog upkeep just two days post-baby. you are crazy! I love it 🙂 I love overnight oats, but they have to be warmed up, not cold out of the fridge. gross.

  24. I LOVE overnight oats! It’s too cold out for that right now though. Otherwise I love stovetop oats!

  25. M is too cute!!! Glad to hear at B is doing great!!!

I can’t eat oats as overnight oats either! Ick! I wish I could though but I can’t!

  26. awww, the pictures of M in the snow are too cute! my mom has quite a few pictures of me playing in the snow at that age. i think being bundled up to twice their size in snow gear makes little kids look extra cute! 🙂

i can’t think of any way that i don’t like oats. my favorite: in cookies!!

  27. I like overnight oats but I don’t like adding yogurt to my oats! That’s the only issue I have! 🙂

  28. I have never tried overnight oats before…but doesn’t sound very appealing to me!! I like my oats nice and creamy! And girl, I give you props for keeping up with your blog!!! I could barely get myself to a computer the first few weeks after bringing the second baby home! And that is wonderful news that he is a great nurser!!!! yay!!!! go mom go!!! 🙂

  29. Kacy says:

    Awww, too cute. Love it!

I am not a huge overnight oats person either and can’t STAND them with protein powder mixed in. Puke.

  30. Angela says:

M looks so cute in her snowsuit! I like oats in all forms – haven’t had a bad bowl yet! 🙂

  31. That snow angel photos is too precious!! What a cutie.

  32. Stefanie says:

Soo cute!! Love your family! 🙂

So far, I haven’t met a way to eat oats that I didn’t like!

  33. Your bowl of oats made my day! It’s been a loooooong week and I needed a good smile. 🙂

So, I had an OBSESSION with overnight oats for awhile and I think I overdosed on them, because I have refused to eat oatmeal for at least 3 months. I cannot even believe it. I used to hate nut butter in my oats, but I’m rethinking that as a possibility…

  34. FUN! We never have snow where I live! Can I live vicariously through your family? hehe

That’s funny about oats, I’m the opposite. It can’t be warm and thick. I like them a little thinner. I prefer them cold! with apples!

  35. Amusing — I love overnight oats. I was extremely skeptical at first. In fact, I think I hesitated to take the first bite on the first morning I tried it. Now, I rarely eat them hot.

I don’t like savory oats. I tried it one time and ended up throwing 70% of it away.

    • Tina says:

I don’t think I could do savory. I get so set in my ways with how things should taste (sweet or savory) and if its different it really weirds me and my taste buds out. LOL

  36. over night with purreed kabocha , that was not a pleasant experience. other overnight oats i love though! i think that was my only bad experience haha. love the photos of little M!

  37. Katie says:

I know you have been getting flooded with congrats but I want you to know that I sincerely mean that I am SO happy for you!! I can not wait to have my own kiddies! I just need to wait for the ring, the house and a few more things haha. My girlfriend’s son is named Braydon. I like your spelling though! 🙂

P.S. My other friend Piper, she eats her oats with salt, butter AND Peanut butter…too heavy for me.

  38. I don’t like oat sweetened!

  39. Tina – your family is absolutely precious! M is just adorable & baby B is perfect!
And I agree with you – I cannot do the overnight oats. Gross!

  40. I LOVE the oat smile! Nothing like an oatmeal smile to start your day. I love oats any way and have been dying to try savory style with red sauce, touch of avocado, black beans and the like. I’ve seen it all over the blog world but haven’t dived in myself.

Your little ones are so perfect and precious Tina. I’m so so so happy for you!

  41. M looks SO cute playing in the snow! 🙂

I love overnight oats, but my all time favorite way to eat oats is with cheese. I dont care if theyre microwaved, or cooked on the stove, if they have cheese in them I’m happy.

  42. there are just days that the thought of oats makes me sick…and others where i love them! i always want them hot though…most definitely NOT cold!

  43. LOVE those pictures of M and the smile in your oats!

I’m actually not a big oatmeal person, eep!

  44. Kelly says:

I love overnight oats, but the toppings make them. And I have to have 1:1:1 oats to Greek yogurt to almond milk ratio or I don’t like them.

P.S. I have a similar discussion going on over at my blog. We must have oats on the brain. 🙂

  45. I’m so glad I am not the only person out there in the blogosphere who does NOT like over night oats! Cold oats = no bueno!

  46. It makes me so happy when I come here 🙂

Glad to hear you and baby B are doing so well! And that he’s a super start nurser! This is my biggest fear!

Those oats look great! I have to admit, in the summer I love overnight oats. I can’t eat them without Vega plant protein in them though. They taste nasty otherwise to me. Any other protein, nasty too. Right now I am loving a few tablespoons Ezekial cinnamon raisin cereal, almond butter and banana. Cooked in water with a splash of almond milk to cool it down.

    Have a great day!

  47. Jolene says:

SNOW ANGEL! ADORABLE! And um, people EAT them cold the next morning? that’s disgusting!

  48. Camille says:

M looks adorable! Your family just makes me smile every time 🙂

  49. I have a serious problem with oatmeal. I love it, but whenever I prepare my own it inevitably turns out horrible. Honestly it’s silly because I consider myself a relatively decent cook, but for some reason I cannot get the oatmeal thang down. Are the tricks that I don’t know about or something? Or maybe it’s just the ingredients I put in? Ack! I’m getting stressed just thinking about it!

    • Tina says:

Thats funny. Im not much of a cook but my oatmeal almost always comes out perfect. Not sure what the secret is though. I guess tears of practice?

  50. Lana says:

I love oatmeal (with all the fun toppings of course). I’ll even eat overnight oats to save me some time in the morning. I found that I like the texture of steel cut oats better for overnight oats though.

I’ve tried savory oats, but am not a huge fan. oats-n-cheese…no thanks!
