Growing Boy And Shrinking Mommy

Posted: January 20, 2011 at 9:02 pm

Just like clockwork, baby B has hit his first growth spurt. Infants typically experience a growth spurt around 7-10 days old, 3 weeks old, 6 weeks old, 3 months old, and 6 months old. Baby B is 9 days old today and has certainly decided to boost his eating in the last 24 hours. What does that mean for me?

A) I spent my day in my pretty pink robe because it has easier access for the boy.

B) I parked myself in my comfy chair for the majority of my day.
C)  I was HUNGRY! I wanted to eat nonstop. So I pretty much did. A bowl of oats, a bowl of cereal, leftover brunswick stew, peanut butter + crackers, dark chocolate bar, Chobani yogurt, banana, and now a Subway sub for dinner.

In the midst of playing booby bar I forgot to take the chicken out of the freezer to defrost for tonight’s planned dinner. Oops. Subway to the rescue. And I have a feeling there will be some sort of dessert tonight. This kid does not stop!

D) I was THIRSTY! I drank seven of my Camelbak water bottles today. That’s over 5 liters! I visited the porcelain chair the other chunk of my day.

And I did find out something exciting today. While the little man works on growing, my body has been shrinking. After my shower I decided to try on my pre-pregnancy jeans just to see how far I had to go to fit back into them. What do you know? They fit!

These jeans aren’t one of the many pairs I hope to wear as my final goal (jeans from my “happy place”), but I still call it a huge success. They may have a lot more muffin-top action going on because of my post-partum stomach, but I still think I look dang good. It certainly brought a smile to my face…though not as big a smile as all your congratulatory comments on FFF’s one year. Or the smile I get from cuddling this little guy…

  1. Yay for the jeans! I think the hungriest I have ever felt was after our long swim practices (we had some that were 4-11!) We did have a dinner break, but that didn’t always help.:)

  2. Sarah R says:

Wow! Prepregnancy jeans already?! That’s great 🙂

  3. He looks so much like M – too cute.

Congrats! You’ll bounce back in no time!

  4. Woohoo! Go you on fitting into those jeans! You DO look great!

The hungriest I have ever been? After our wedding.. actually, the entire wedding. We barely ate at the reception, couldn’t find anything open afterwards, then when we got up at 4 AM to go catch our flight, nothing was open in the airport. We didn’t eat anything until we got to Mexico – it was horrible.

  5. Sweetie, he is such a doll! LOL on the potty – I drink a ton of water and spend a huge part of my day beating the path to the potty! I think the hungriest I’ve been has been after I’ve recovered from a really long run.

  6. Congrats on the jeans girlfriend! You look wonderful! And I love Baby B’s sweet face!

  7. Haha, I don’t blame you for being so hungry!!

You look GREAT in those jeans!! I’m majorly impressed!

  8. LOL “play booby bar”.. you are too funny! Congrats on the pre-pregnancy jeans… i’ve heard breastfeeding is like a workout in itself.

  9. Lori Lynn says:

I tagged you in a Stylish Blog Award. See my blog for details.

  10. WOW!! What an accomplishment!!! I must say, I am totally jealous!!! I did not fit into my pre-preggo jeans til almost a year later. Then again, I did not workout during pregnancy and gained 82 pounds. HAHA!!!!! GREAT JOB!!! I am sure your “happy place” jeans are not that far off. I cannot wait to see you finally able to wear them!

Love your “booby bar” reference. You are quite funny. :o)

So glad to hear Baby B is growing right along…..

  11. Michelle says:

He is so smooshable! Love it. And miss it.

Gotta love the growth spurts. Hang in there mama! Do you/have you made lactation cookies? They are SOOO good (and good for your milk!).

    • Tina says:

Those suckers are good stuff. I actually have wanted to make them but refrain from it because I already have a “powerful letdown” and can easily overproduce. My body is a milk making machine apparently.

  12. Rach says:

Congrats on getting back into your jeans already! 🙂

  13. Kristi says:

Yay for already getting back into your prepregnancy jeans!

  14. Bahahaha!!! “Booby bar” Love it!

You look amazing! 😀 I can’t believe you only gave birth a little over a week ago! Rock it!

  15. Amanda says:

Congrats on the jeans!! And oh man, I remember my younger son’s three-week growth spurt specifically. That child woke up from a brief morning nap at around 10:00 one morning and didn’t sleep for more than seven minutes at a stretch — yes, I timed it! — until 5:30 the following morning.

On the plus side, I was able to read most of Terry Pratchett’s _Hogfather_ that night, so that was something.

As for what’s the hungriest I’ve ever felt? I think it was this summer, during our family vacation. We were in Glacier National Park, and a small group of us (the clearly INSANE) hiked the High Line trail up to Granite Chalet, then hiked the back trail down to the Loop. It was an 11 mile hike, took us about 8 hours, and the last 4 miles of it were 2200 feet of descent if I remember correctly. It was amazing, phenomenal, glorious, and I was the last person down because my legs were recovering from stress fractures and weren’t *quite* as ready for a lengthy mountain hike as I thought they were.

    Oops.

I think I consumed in excess of 3500 calories at dinner that night alone. And it was worth it. On the down side, it was also my only hike of the trip because I didn’t really recover from it until we were at the Denver airport catching the last leg of our flight home. Oh well 🙂

  16. such a good momma! I love following you post-partum!

  17. You look amazing!!! Once again I love how real you are on your blog. Keep up the good milk making Mama!

I think the hungriest I have ever been (past eating disorder aside) is when I am breastfeeding. The thirst is unreal too, I constantly have something to drink in my hand.

  18. Probably after a 2-day fast as part of a backpacking program I did through my college (Gordon) called La Vida.
    You do look great!

  19. Nursing is the best in so many ways! I could not stop eating the whole
    Time I nursed Max!

  20. Katie says:

Love the pic of him : ) so sweet!

yay for getting back in your jeans already!!!! U look so cute!

Love the pink robe! I have a pink robe too! Robes are the best!

Have a great night girl! xoxo

  21. Yaaay! You do look amazing! 😀

  22. Morgan says:

    congrats on your blogiversary!
Oh, my hungriest is now, ALL THE TIME. I am hungrier breastfeeding than I was pregnant. It’s out of control. I can’t get enough food into my system, it’s insane

  23. Heather says:

Yay for pre-pregnancy jeans!! You look fab!

  24. He is so super cute! Suckin’ the life (er, milk) right outta ya, huh?

  25. Stephanie says:

    Breastfeeding days. Hands down!

  26. Dorry says:

I bet that felt great to button up your jeans! Even cooler that God has this whole natural plan for you to return to your happy weight while nourishing your baby boy. Pretty amazing. I can’t think of the hungriest I’ve ever been. It’s been a while because I think I’m always prepared now with snacks on the go! 🙂

  27. Wow, congrats! I’m sure this is just the beginning of reaching your goals!

  28. marcia says:

Awww! You look AWESOME!! 🙂 I did the same as you..I did not hop on that scale!! I used pants as my guide.

I will have to agree that during the first few weeks after I had the kids was my hungriest time ever. It’s as if I am a bottomless pit. No complaints- i love to eat!

    Happy 1st Anniversary FFF!

  29. Oh my goodness, look at that face! He is so adorable. I’ll bet it feels so good to fit in those jeans again. You look great!

The hungriest I’ve ever felt was when I was nursing. I remember never feeling satisfied on some days.

  30. Erica says:

booby bar- hahah, that cracked me up! Your little man is SO cute. And congrats on the jeans! That is SUPER exciting. <3

  31. Allie says:

Go you for fitting into your pre-pregnancy jeans! You look GREAT 🙂 Hahaha I love how you called youself a boobie bar LOL

  32. wow, congrats on fitting into those jeans! 🙂 so quickly! baby b is just adorable – i love when you post photos of him.

the hungriest i’ve ever been? that’s so hard! i guess it was last time i moved. we were up super early packing up the cars and cleaning my old apartment. by the time we got done moving everything into my new apartment it was dinner time & i hadn’t eaten all day in the busy-ness. it wasn’t fun!

  33. Ah, I can’t think about the hungriest time ever – I don’t know when or where it was, but the thought literally makes me hungry! 🙂 On a separate note, though, any day where I go swimming, I eat SO much more.

  34. NINE days and you are fitting in your jeans!!! Woot Woot!!!!! That’s so exciting 🙂

The hungriest I ever felt started a few weeks ago….as I almost enter the 3rd trimester. Everything is growing on me too. No more feeling “all belly” like i did in the 4th and 5th months. The hunger has increased. I am sure it will be worse when I have 8+ pound a baby to feed every 2 hours! At least then I will hopefully be shrinking rapidly like you!

Your day of eating sounds EXACTLY like mine recently…oats, chobani and veggie delight from subway 🙂

    Lookin’ amazing, Tina!

  35. Kat says:

    1. I think I have that robe…is it from Target?

    2. Congrats on getting back into those jeans – small victories (even though I would say this counts as a sizeable one!) are huge.

    3. The hungriest I’ve ever been was after my half marathon last August. I ate I think…four plates of varying fullness from the Famous Dave’s brunch buffet. And even though I was pacing myself, I literally felt like a bottomless pit.

  36. Shannon says:

The human body is amazing! I couldn’t believe how quickly my strtched out body went back to normal!

The hungriest ice ever been is now…nursing. Incredible that it requires more extra energy to nurse than to carry the baby inside.

  37. Heather says:

oh my gosh, yesterday i got so hungry i thought i was going to pass out. for real. it was terrible…

and a big YAY!!!! for the jeans! you do look amazing 🙂

  38. Congrats on making progress so quickly! Your little one is a cutie!

  39. Your little family is so cute. 🙂

The hungriest I have ever been was coming home from a Europe trip with my sister in college. We ran out of money so for the last two days (including a night spent in the airport because we couldn’t afford a hotel) all we ate was a pack of canned tuna, a snickers bar, and a cup of hot chocolate between us. We were scouring the ground for Euro coins. It was nuts. I have never been so excited for airplane food!

  40. ahaaha, I love the term, “booby bar.”

don’t you just LOVE robe days? I live in my vic secret sherpa robe.. also pink! 🙂

  41. Melodie says:

You look so great and healthy… radiant even! Baby B is so adorable. I am glad to see you are enjoying this season of your life!

And that Subway sandwich looks really really good!

  42. heck yeah for the jeans fitting. You are well on your way to your happy weight!

and hey ms booty, lookin hot!

  43. Tina you are so adorable and so are your children 🙂

Happy One Year Blogiversary by the way. I love catching up on your posts and I love that your baby boy was born on my wedding anniversary 🙂

I was the most hungry after running my marathon last year! I felt like I could have eaten a house. And the hunger lasted for a few days after that — and I enjoyed eating every ounce of food afterward!

  44. You’re right! You do look fantastic! And my hungriest has got to be after one of my sports practices. I swam and played water polo (through college), and those multi-hour practices would DRAIN you. I was still on my college’s water polo team in law school, so at 26, I was still TINY and able to eat like a teenage boy. There was a conference I worked with some other law students, and shocked everyone when I matched the consumption of a 6’6″ bean-pole of a guy. I know it involved 2 breakfast sandwiches and entirely too much bacon, but have blocked out the rest. 😉

  45. You look FANTASTIC!!!!! And the baby looks so, so handsome 🙂

  46. He’s beautiful and perfect!

Way to go Mommy on the jeans. You’re doing everything right!

  47. Heather says:

Aside from during contest prep? Right now. I’m eating almost every 2 hours & that’s not counting the snack I have when I’m wide awake in the middle of the night!!! I’m starving all the time & eating frequently fends off the morning sickness. Oddly enough, not gaining an ounce (not that it would matter but it’s still so strange) especially since my fitness-level has been cut in half!

Oh the joys of pregnancy! haha 🙂

  48. Jolene says:

you look amazing! Congrats on that! Hungriest I ever was? After the half marathon I ran. I could have eaten all day nonstop.
