OIAJ Fail + FFF Features

Posted: March 19, 2011 at 2:34 pm

Yet another beautiful day in the neighborhood this morning. 🙂 I had my normal Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday workout scheduled for today – a full body workout and a run. I split up the two earlier this week, but don’t want to do that on Saturdays. So, I drove to the gym and ran a quick 3.2 mile loop on the roads by the gym. Then, I headed indoors for my weights workout. I ended up with this for today:

P1140404

Machine Hacksquat Legs 3x15
Machine Wide Row Back 3x15
Back Extenstion Legs 3x15
Pushups Chest 3x10
Upright Row Shoulders 3x12
Kickbacks Triceps 3x12

After my workout I came home and had a breakfast fail. I had reached the bottom of my peanut butter jar.

oiaj1

That meant OIAJ of course. Since we still don’t have produce, I figured I would do a strawberry yogurt mixed with the oats to get some flavor instead.

oiaj2

oiaj3

Well, the yogurt cooled the oats down. Non-hot oats = non-melty peanut butter = can’t scoop up all the good stuff. That’s the WHOLE point of OIAJ!! At least it still tasted good, despite not being able to savor melty gobs of peanut butter at the end.

And now I must get on with my Saturday…and the week’s features, but of course!

Featured Move: Kick It!

I find kickboxing a very fun and effective workout. You don’t have to take a class or do a DVD though to get the benefits. I have been known to add the moves in the video clip to standard workouts as an extra cardio boost between weights moves or to work the midsection a bit more.

And I do NOT know why the voice is all squeaky and fast in the video. Annoying!

Featured Moment: Body After Baby Progress

1weekfront month2progress4

Continuing to make progress in my Body After Baby journey. Most importantly…continuing that progress in a balanced, healthy, and realistic way.

Featured Meal: Springtime Lemon Raspberry Muffins

lrmuffinsf

I’ve had lots of yummy eats this week. Goat cheese + pesto sandwiches. Goat cheese, artichoke, & mushroom stuffed chicken. But you all know I’m a breakfast lover first, so my Springtime lemon Raspberry muffins win the honor. Have you tried them yet?

Featured Cuteness: Nap Time

IMGP0112

Last Sunday afternoon, after the fabulous time change, i crashed for a three hour nap with Makenzie. Peter managed to sneak a shot of us sleeping. So special!

I’m going to try that the next time I finish a PB jar, seriously! It sounds yummy. I love the picture of you and Mackenzie sleeping too, her bed and comforter are really cool looking too =).

Yippee for your body after baby posts- you’re doing such a great job! Not just the fact that you’re losing the baby weight, but the speed you’re running and the workouts you’re doing are really awesome!

    • Tina says:

Thanks! I always love a workout challenge. 🙂 And OIAJ is yummy…but hotter oats are better. Love the melty gobs of PB that wya!

  2. i used to LOVE going to kickboxing! I let out soo much steam– felt like a whole new person afterwards haha

looking great– you should be proud of yourself!

  3. I do love kickboxing workouts, thanks for asking 🙂

That pic of you and M is so adorable!

  4. I LOVE kickboxing! It’s my favorite workout! Too cute napping with M. That must have felt amazing! Have a great weekend Tina!

  5. Ummm I am totally jealous of that 3 hour nap!! 🙂 How long have you had a Garmin? I want to get one of them eventually too, so I can see what my running looks like outside.

    • Tina says:

I’ve had it for about a month because Peter couldn’t pass up a deal he found on one for just over $100. I didn’t plan to get one for a long while, but that price had it happen sooner. Not complaining!

  6. Your naptime pic is so sweet – gotta treasure moments like that! I’ve never done a kickboxing workout (except on the Wii) before, but I’d love to try it out! Have a great weekend.

  7. Danica says:

i love kickboxing too! a lot of the time it doesn’t feel like a hard workout to me because i have to keep thinking about what i’m going to do next, and that’s great because i end up pushing myself hard and result in getting to “sneak” in a really great sweat-out!

  8. Kendra says:

Hi Tina, yes the muffins are fabulous but I used strawberries cuz I didn’t have any raspberries. I have a question regarding your weight workouts…do you do them as a circuit, such as legs, then back, then legs, then shoulders etc., then repeat through twice, or do you do each exercise as a set of three, then move on to the next body part, finish that exercise, then move on? Which do you find you like better? I hope my question made sense.

    • Tina says:

Makes perfect sense! I usually do supersets so I will do the 1st two exercises back to back with a shorter rest between. Then do the next two exercises. And then the final group of two (shoulders and arms usually). This keeps me moving so my workouts only take about 20 minutes. I do like circuits going through all the moves too, but don’t usually do them since its harder to save all that equipment.

  9. I loved Julie’s post about the comparison trap — I fall into it all the time!

I like hot OIAJ far better than cold — and it is all because of the melty PB like you mentioned!

  10. I love kickboxing! It’s such a fun, but tough workout. Afterward I always feel satisfied and good about myself 🙂 One of my favorite ways to get some exercise in! Also, I loved reading Julie’s Comparison Trap post too! It really puts everything in perspective that just because someones life appears to be so perfect, it definitely is not. From an outsiders perspective, I could see how people would think my life is full of crazy college nights, partying and drinking when in fact it most definitely is NOT. But hey, who really wants to read about the 12 hours I spent studying for my midterms 😉

  11. Lauren says:

I love kickboxing and should do it more often. It’s such a great workout, and my legs are always sore the next day! My friend & I used to do kickboxing videos from the 90s that were so funny to watch.

  12. erika says:

oh you look so fabulous!! congrats on all the awesome progress! and i love the video, definitely gave me new inspiration for things to try on clients since kickboxing is great cardio! 🙂

  13. Erica says:

What a great Saturday AM workout!! Its SUCH a beautiful day today. I do love kick boxing! I taught Turbo Kick for years. Occasionally I like to throw one of my old training videos in and sweat it up! Enjoy the rest of the weekend

  14. Awwww… the nap pic is so cute! Reminds me that I wish I would have had time to have one today. Guess I’ll be grabbing some coffee to go! 🙂

  15. Heather says:

i’ve never been in love with kickboxing, but i would have to attribute that to the fact that they’re so challenging and i’m not used to then i chicken out. i didn’t think your voice was squeaky at all!

  16. Love the napping picture! I’d give anything for a 3hr nap!

  17. Kara says:

I’m a huge kickboxing fan and I used to teach cardio kickbox (on heavy bags) in college and grad school. Such a good workout!

I love how you point out other blogs here, it helps me not miss anything good 🙂

  18. lindsay says:

out of all your great features, I think the nap just says it all. I love it! Family bonding time, right?
    😉

  19. Lisa says:

You look great Tina! Your body is improving so much! I can totally see the difference! I love your non-obsessive approach! Your insight is really helping me in my own weight loss journey!

  20. That nap picture is so sweet! Definite keeper.

I still havent tried oats in a jar. I have 3 empty peanut butter jars in my fridge, and nothing but good intentions. But somehow, I always forget. 🙂

    • Tina says:

I can relate. It took me awhile to remember too. Then one morning while I was scraping up the last bits of PB I finally figured “now is the time”. LOL

  21. Meg says:

Hey thanks for the kickboxing moves! I haven’t ever really tried it, but there is a class at my gym that I’m considering taking once I’ve tried these out!

p.s. Look at you go! Your post baby progress is coming along great! Please come train me after I have a baby. 🙂

  22. Holly says:

I keep thinking about trying Turbo Kick one of these days because EVERYone says it’s an amazing workout! By the way, I absolutely love your voice! (Um that sounds weird, but you know what I mean..) 🙂

And your pics look amazing, Tina! I have loved watching your progress – you have so much knowledge in overall fitness, I’ve learned so many things from you.

  23. Oh my! That napping picture is priceless. So serene 🙂

I do like kickboxing..and now that I think about it, I should start it up again!

  24. Lee says:

I actually like it when the pb doesn’t melt because when it melts, I feel like I can’t taste it.

I do like kickboxing. I haven’t been in forever though.

  25. Anne Marie says:

I used to take a kickboxing class all the time at my gym. Since we canceled our membership and are trying to go without for a while, I haven’t been doing any kickboxing even though I have dvds!! I should just pump some jams and do some of the moves you shared 🙂

  26. Amanda says:

YOU LOOK AMAZING. And I must say, that napping picture stole my heart…and I’m a little jealous of your girl’s room decor. Purple all the way!!

  27. Love the pic of you and M!!! So adorable!

I don’t mind OIAJ cold – I usually let it sit overnight though!

  28. missy miller says:

You need more naps…That is the sweetest thing ever and I’m sure you get the most restful peaceful sleep right there.

  29. that nap time picture is beyond adorable. so, so cute! also, thank you so much for the shout out, tina!

  30. You look great! I tried kickboxing and realized that I am indeed as uncoordinated as I think I am:(

  31. I actually prefer cold overnight oats in a jar to hot oats, but it helps to have the thicker pudding-like consistency (I usually add chia seeds) to help scrape up the nut butter.

Usually, when I first think of kickboxing, it brings back horrible memories from high school gym class where I was “tortured” with Billy Blanks workouts…blah! But I’m really eager to try out some of your moves in my next workout, especially the plank with the jumping jack!

LOVE the featured cuteness! You both look so cute! Did M really sleep for the whole 3 hours?

  32. What a beautiful pic of you and little M! So precious! 🙂

  33. peacebeme says:

Good for Peter for taking that picture! It will be a very special one of you and M to save!

  34. Heather says:

aw the nap picture is so cute! I love the colors in her room, too!

  35. Love that pic of you two sleeping!
I do like kickboxing workouts. THey really switch things up fo rme!

  36. Nicole says:

Those muffins look amazing, and you look terrific!

  37. Kacy says:

Great job on the run girl!
I love kickboxing videos but I’ve always been too scared to try the classes at the gym. Maybe that is a new challenge?

  38. Wow you look great! You skin is amazing. I have some stretch marks beneath my belly button from my son and I’m so jealous that you don’t! I didn’t gain much weight at all but I don’t really like my body at the moment. I need some more tone but my abs definitely aren’t the same as they used to be! Finally last week or so they came all the way back together so I can work on them now.

    • Tina says:

I always heard stretch marks are genetic. My mom doesn’t have any either and I’m thankful for that. Although…my boobs…I DO have quite a few on those!

  39. […] Corey on March 22, 2011 The strangest thing happened the other day. Tina from Faith, Fitness, Fun referenced a post from Julie (PB Fingers) called Comparison […]

  40. Love kickboxing…any kind of boxing for that matter. It’s my favorite thing to do (mostly partner boxing with gloves/mitts). Great tips in the video. Love the hook move.

Oh and that nap time pic is so adorable. Love it!
