Addicted

Catching up from the weekend?

I have to get something off my chest. I have an addiction problem. I’m addicted to Groupons. Whenever I get an email for a Groupon that includes a deal for a restaurant with an appetizing menu within a 30 mile radius, I hit “Buy Now”. I love getting to try out new places to eat that I otherwise may have never heard about or been wary to pay full price for a test-drive run. Unfortunately, when this addiction couples itself with my forgetfulness we have another problem.

When I flipped my calendar to April, I noticed that we had not one, but TWO Groupon deals expiring this weekend. Oops! Thankfully we had Saturday open to do a lot of eating. I didn’t mind. Big surprise, right? 😉

One of the spots had a perfect menu for a light lunch, so that’s exactly what we did. Cafe Lapin is a small cafe tucked away in the Buckhead area. It doesn’t look like much at all, but they had a nice sounding menu. I ordered an apricot chicken salad sandwich with the mixed greens salad.

The sandwich tasted a little weird and wasn’t my favorite, but the salad with its balsamic, dried cranberries, and sunflower seeds worked quite well. I left satisfied. After all, to cash in our entire Groupon we had some money to spare on a little dessert. I ordered an Oatmeal Dark Chocolate Cherry Toffee cookie.

A mouthful of a name for a cookie…and a mouthful of yum for flavor. I also admit to having an addiction to sweets. I own it and figure there could be worse things. Like, you know, not loving sweets. I would classify that as catastrophic.

In between our dining, we hung out with Peter’s family at his parents’ house to let our appetites get going again. Awhile later, it was time for dinner at The Fickle Pickle.

The Fickle Pickle is a really cute little restaurant in an old renovated house. I love the charm and vibe of places like this. I also love when the food lives up to the atmosphere. It most certainly did here.

For my dinner, I ordered a BLT sandwich that had bacon, arugala, tomato, BRIE cheese, and a basil spread on sourdough bread pressed panini style. The fries left a bit to be desired, but the sandwich…perfect. I know a certain somebody would agree.

We hightailed it out of there after eating because the kiddos were getting tired. After getting them to bed, we settled in for the evening with the movie 127 Hours. I really liked it. It kind of amazes me how a movie without much happening can capture my attention so well. Although, I did not stay attentive during the whole amputation scene. No thank you. Overall, I would recommend it though.

The rest of the weekend remained rather low-key. We stayed home from church because little B seemed sick. I went for a 5 mile run with Lee from In My Tummy. It was nice to run with a friend because we helped keep each other going and chatted off and on. She also helped me reach a new distance – 1st time hitting 5 miles! Wee! After the run, I spent the rest of the day napping and snuggling a sick kiddo. All in all a good weekend since B seems to be getting better. I hope yours was too! 🙂

  1. I am really forgetful about those groupons, too! Do you have LivingSocial? They have even better deals, in my opinion.

Congrats on reaching 5 miles! That’s awesome. 🙂

Best part of my weekend? The 10 Mile Race from yesterday. It was amazing and beautiful through all the cherry blossoms in DC.

    • Tina says:

  6. Kelly says:

Keith and I joined a coed softball league and we had our first game last night. It was so fun!

  7. Katie says:

Yum – the BLT with arugula sounds awsome! Thats my new addiction is arugula (guess it could be worse), but I put it on everything… so yummy!
Best part of the weekend ?? Is it bad to say that it’s over was the best part ??? Eeek ! Reagan was in an AWFUL mood all weekend, Dustin hit a water pipe out in the garage, and I did awful with my coupons! hehe — it was just a no good weekend !!! Hope this week is better!
Good Job on the 5 miles — thats awsome!

  8. Congrats on the 5 miles!!! That’s awesome girl. That cookie is calling my name. WOW

  9. Congrats on the run! That’s awesome! Hanging out with my boys was the highlight of my weekend. There’s nothing better than dinner and a movie (at home) with my men!

  10. That BLT looks delish!!! The Fickle Pickle looks like my kind of eatery!

My weekend kind of tanked when I took my daughter to the am/pm clinic friday night and found out she had strep. I did however have a really good run Sat morning and was able to get out of the house Sat night with my son to celebrate my dad’s 60th b-day.

    • Tina says:

Hope the strep is passing quickly. Sick kiddos are the worst to deal with. You want to take it all away, but can’t. 🙁 Glad you still had some highlight moments in there though.

  11. Kacy says:

    I love Groupons!
Everything looks delish! Good job on the 5 miles!!
My favorite part of the weekend was seeing my dad and stepmom on Saturday!

  12. Tina- first, I would die for these sandwiches. They’re right up my alley.

Second- your photography in this post is outstanding. So vibrant and crisp!!

Third, my favorite part of the weekend was watching a scary moving with Daniel on Saturday night. And eating cookies 🙂

    Happy Monday, lovely lady 🙂

  13. Angela says:

Fickle Pickle is such a cute name! Looks like a delicious sandwich too. The highlight of my weekend was probably meeting up with 2 of my friends for lunch. I hadn’t seen one of them in a really long time so it was great to catch up again!

  14. Erica says:

oh my gosh- I’m a total groupon addict too! I get excited to check out the deals every morning 🙂 That cookie- super yum! And I read about your run with Lee- sounds like it was a good one. Best parts of my weekend were spending time with Josh and going to dinner with my parents

  15. I loved getting my hair done and sleeping in…you just can’t beat that!

  16. Mellissa says:

I am really hungry after looking at the sandwich! I also have a Groupon, Living Social, Crowd Cut addiction. I have way too many and need to stop!

  17. Lisa says:

I’m addicted to Groupon and Living Social too. If I go too long without their deals being something I want to buy I get cranky. LOL Honestly it’s a GREAT way to try new restaurants and save money! I love it.

  18. I am also addicted to Groupons/Living Social deals! They’re so hard to pass up!
Congrats on the 5 Mile run! I’m so happy running turned into something you love to do 🙂
Oh and the best part of my weekend was setting a PR at my 5K on Friday. I knocked 1:18 of my last 5K time!

  19. Julie says:

That cookie! That BLT! YUM! They looked like they tasted marvelous!

The best part of my weekend was taking a looong bike ride in the country with friends. It was lovely!

  20. I would have to buy a Groupon to a place called the Fickle Pickle. I mean, come on.

This weekend, I went to the gym, to church, to a birthday lunch with my parents and a birthday dinner with my husband. It was an awesome weekend. (and my husband and son went to a baseball game, which my son was thrilled about). Plus we made red velvet cupcakes from scratch and soft pretzels from scratch.

    • Tina says:

I want to come have leftovers at your house. 😉

And yea. The name had me convinced to buy it even before I looked up their menu online. LOL

  21. Congrats on your awesome run! I can’t even do 5 miles yet!

  22. Amanda says:

Oh my goodness! That cookie looks delicious and I am pretty sure I am now craving some sandwiches! 🙂 The best part of my weekend would have to be cooking out last night with friends and family! 🙂 So much fun to share a great meal with the people you love!! Hope you have an awesome Monday!

  23. Groupon is amazing! But I always run the risk of buying and then not using–such a waste!

  24. Heather says:

OMG, I’m addicted to Groupons and sweets, too! Haha.
We have almost 10 Groupons at home to use!

  25. Krista says:

“The Fickle Pickle”…what a great name! And I think I’ll need to remember that brie trick in my next BLT! Thanks for stopping by my blog! 🙂

  26. Looks delicious! Both meals! Loving the Fickle Pickle, I would so eat there just because of the name.

  27. I love groupons too and yes, they’re a great way to try new things!! Both meals look yummy – looking up the fickle pickle right now – it’s SO cute!

  28. haha I buy way too many groupons too! It is always hard when you realize the expiration date is coming up. We used 2 in one weekend a few weeks ago, but I was a little stressed.

Best part of my weekend was my injury free PR at the Cherry Blossom 10 miler!

  29. i’m the same way! i love groupons…but i’m trying to restrain myself lately unless it’s a REALLY good one 🙂

  30. I love restaurants in old houses…they always have such great charm! And usually awesome food, too! 🙂

  31. Mandy says:

Great job on that 5 miles!

  32. michelle says:

The best part of my weekend was a great half marathon run 🙂

  33. I have a little Groupon addiction too. And DealOn. And HafOff Depot. And Living Social. It’s getting bad… LOL! 🙂

    • Tina says:

I need to check out DealOn and HalfOffDepot. Haven’t heard of those before except when you mentioned them at our dinner.

  34. Sounds like a good weekend of eating!!! The best part of my weekend was getting some decorating around the house I’ve been meaning to do.

  35. I love Groupon too. I also love WagJag & Dealfind. Right now some co-workers and I have 20 boot camp sessions to use that we bought for $20! An amazing deal.

The best part of our weekend was getting to our first baseball game of the year. It was nice to do something seasonal even though the weather hasn’t really been co-operating!

  36. I want to see 127 hours — I watched Winter’s Bone last night (another oscar nominee) and loved it, although it was sad and kind of depressing.

That BLT looks so good — I love BLTs!

  37. Emily says:

I’m totally addicted to groupons! but definitely not limited just to food ones. I buy them for EVERYTHING. and also make my bf buy them. so we end up with a bajillion deals to use up.

    obviously there are worse problems…

  38. What a fun weekend! I am always a little wary of Groupons because I’m afraid that I may not like them, but I need to get brave! 🙂

    • Tina says:

I don’t think I have ever been fully disappointed by one. Even if the place doesn’t live up to the full price, its still always worth the deal price. 🙂

  39. Sarah R says:

What yummy eats! I’m always a little hesitant to buy groupons because I don’t want them to expire before we use them. The favorite part of my weekend was getting to play cards with some really good friends. We used to play every weekend, but it had been many, many weeks. It was really great to catch up with them.

  40. The Fickle Pickle! What a cute name for a restaurant! lol

My favorite part of the weekend was shopping! I never really shop anymore so it was nice to buy a few things!

  41. Tracy says:

Cute restaurant! There are much worse things to be addicted to than Groupons…like the peanut butter easter egg that just disappeared from my hand. Where did it go? Ohhh yeah…..

  42. What a fun weekend! That BLT sandwich sounds incredible 🙂

  43. I’ve never done the whole groupon thing! Probably because I live in a city of only ~120k ppl 😛 It’s not even on there!

  44. oohh your food choices soung awesome! I had a great weekend! I just hate when they are over!

  45. I love groupons, but it probably makes me spend more in the long run. I guess that’s the point! 🙂

  46. I just discovered Groupon recently and I am ever glad I did! The best part of my weekend was spending the day with my man…and getting a much needed massage 🙂

  47. Can you believe I’ve never bought a Groupon before?

That sandwich sounds INSANE. I may have to try and make one myself.

  48. That salad looks great! And, I love the name of the restaurant! So cute!

Nice job on getting to 5 miles! That is a huge accomplishment!

  49. I just recently signed up for groupons…I have a feeling I would get addicted if I had any of my own money! 😉

  50. My entire weekend was pretty awesome, actually!! It was packed, but really fun 🙂

I’ve heard such great things about 127 Hours, but I know there is no way I can watch it. I feel like the amputation would just be too much for me to handle!
