The Undocumented Side
Posted: April 28, 2011 at 8:20 amSince I have started blogging less often, quite a few things that happen go undocumented. Sometimes I feel like I don’t get the chance to share as much of those little nuances of my life. Which could very well be a good thing in your mind. And if that’s the case, I feel sorry for you because I’m about to unload a whole bunch of random things happening around the FFF household.
I can get very impatient. Especially when it comes to my current infatuation with mangoes. When Jess posted this recipe yesterday morning, I immediately told Makenzie we would be baking muffins that afternoon.
And we did. Mango. Banana. Coconut. Whole Wheat. Goodness. I followed her recipe exactly, with the exception of using vanilla almond milk instead of coconut milk. I didn’t have the patience to wait for a trip to the store. It made the muffins a bit less coconut-ty tasting, but I still loved them. I know what I’ll be snacking on the next few days…if they last that long.
Muffins and yogurt bowls aren’t the only things coming out of my kitchen though. I also take the time to whip up some easy dinners that don’t always make it in with my posts. I recently made these lettuce wraps and can’t wait to have them again.
All I did was cut some chicken into 1 inch cubes and cook it for about 7-8 minutes in a pan. Then I placed it in bibb lettuce leaves with a rainbow slaw (shredded broccoli, carrots, red cabbage), sliced cucumber, and Newman’s Own sesame ginger dressing. Simple and delicious!
I have also just had a lot going on that I couldn’t even begin to mention. I feel like I don’t know where my days go anymore! I’m so thankful for God in my life to help me keep perspective and calm me during stressful moments. I have picked back up leading our adult bible study class on Sundays.
You would think having something else on my plate would stress me, but it actually helps me. Growing in my faith makes me a better person. Believe me.
Workouts also help make me a better person, for the sanity factor alone. I have certainly experienced some great ones this week. I even broke out some Cathe DVD action yesterday. I completed her HIIT 30/30 workout. It’s been awhile since I have done an interval workout like that. I die.
I’m already dreading, but also looking forward to, the other 2 workouts from that DVD which up the challenge even more. Eep!
Lastly, I miss yoga. I think I do well fitting in regular stretching and foam rolling, but I do miss a more regular practice. I really wish a class at the gym would coincide with our schedules. Or that studio classes didn’t want to make my wallet seize with terror. The class on Wednesdays could work, but it cuts a bit into baby B’s best nap time. I can’t bring myself to do it. Almost like I can’t bring myself to do this…
…though I badly want to get in on the Netflix action. And okay – the yoga thing wasn’t “lastly”. I warned you I ramble. Anyhoo. Peter & I both know if we do the free trial, we may as well sign up because we will get hooked. We don’t need to get hooked. We already have one show a night to watch from our DVR and that hour is plenty. Although, Netflix does have workout options, right? Perhaps it could solve my yoga dilemma. Uh-oh. I feel my determination waning. 😉
- Do you have Netflix or something similar? What do you like most about it?
- What fruit are you currently loving?
I am thrilled you guys liked the muffins so much! 🙂
Netflix has completely replaced TV for us. It’s wonderful to get the same amount of enjoyment for drastically less money per month. Those are really yummy sounding muffins!
We are about to drop our DirectTv because Netflix gives us everything we need. The workouts are good, but we have the plan for one disc and streaming. I wish we had two discs because I would like to get some of the workouts on DVD.
Love Cathe!! I get such great ideas from her workouts, she’s awesome.
I’m all about strawberries right now, they are delicious this time of year!
Maybe I am missing something on my netflix…but we just cancelled it. We use blockbuster express or redbox for movies (and I just bought a few groupons plus always find free rental codes). And our cable has everything on demand, exercise tv, kids, shows. Which was all I could get from the streaming, there weren’t any movies I wanted. We watch too much sports to get rid of cable. Baseball and hockey games are usually on cable, plus college football. So I am pocketing my $10!
Those lettuce wraps look genius. I’m going to try them 🙂 I know one of my friends at school is always finding workout videos on the netflix watch instantly. She’s always telling me about pilates, yoga etc. I actually need to renew mine, and that part alone is motivating me.
I love 40/20 on that disc. KILLER. I haven’t pulled that one out in ages though. May need to dust it off! I do have netflix and have gotten a few workout DVDs. It’s kind of nice to give them a test run, but sometimes the wait is forever. They do have a few that you can stream live (or whatever they call it, instant play or something).
i am ADORING strawberries right now! i’m so sad that cathe isn’t on fitTV anymore (and that fitTV isn’t there anymore) because i haven’t been able to do any of her crazy workouts!
Not trying to sell you on it, but Netflix may be your solution to the yoga issue, actually. If you get the streaming one like we have, they have several yoga movies you can add to your queue and do them anytime, that would really work for your schedule because you could do them at night or while your kids nap. I really want to just drop cable and do netflix but hubby insists he “needs” food network, lol.
Plus the cheapest netflix plan to only have one DVD out is like $10 a month… and there is so much streaming that you really only need one DVD out at a time anyway!
Those muffins look and sound amazing!
A.L.
We would do the streaming option since our main TV is hooked up to a computer too. <-- techy husband That's cool they have the yoga you can stream. That is what I would hope to do with it. Thanks!
I got the net flix offer, too! I’ve done it before- and think I’ll probably use this one. But not until June when all the tv I normally watch is in reruns. That’s my compromise. 🙂
Yup, we have Netflix, but no real way to stream things, so we’re still on good old mail in…which is incredible. They often turn it around in a day which I don’t even know how that’s possible! It’s great to have tons of options, and if you’re into random things (like, I like to brush up on my foreign languages by watching other languages), it’s so convenient.
Have you considered doing a yoga DVD at home? I LOVE Core Fusion Yoga Energy Flow. It’s the only yoga I’ve actually found that I like. So good.
I would…but I hate to buy DVDs without trying them first. Plus the thought of having ONE yoga workout kind of bores me. LOL
I spied those muffins yesterday too – they’re definitely on my list to make very soon! My fave fruit right now is bananas and strawberries. I’ve been obsessively making green smoothies with both and they have been sooooo good!
Tina we have Netflix and I love it. We pay less than $10/month and we get 1 dvd at a time, but there is so much you can stream instantly — on a computer, through a Blu Ray Player, Wii or Xbox. There are some workouts so it is nice to be able to try them out before purchasing them.
They have a great Documentary section and most of those are stream-able 🙂
We’ve had good prices on pineapple lately, and I’ve been loving it! No Netflix for us, but our Blockbuster closed…. Maybe we will get on that bandwagon. I like Redbox – $1 per day. Works for movies, but not so much for workout DVDs. Have you ever considered trading with someone for a while, so you can both get some fresh workouts?
I love, love, love lettuce wraps–so light and yet very satisfying with all of the crunch!
I loveee Netflix!! IT’s the perfect rainy day/insomnia/i need something to do solution. 🙂
I just recently signed up with Netflix and I’m really liking it. There are so many movies and tv shows to choose from and I even have it on my iPhone so I can practically watch movies anywhere!
I actually love that they have TV seasons the most. I would love to watch old school shows whenever I want.
Yum! Your muffin recipes are always so tasty looking!! And Cathe’s HiiT workouts are SO HARD!! I dread but love them too 😉
Tina,
I think all of your readers love reading about what’s going on otherwise they wouldn’t read your blog! 😛
We actually gave up cable and now only do instant Netflix streaming through a Roku box which saved us at least $60 per month. I do miss my Bravo shows a bit but otherwise we’re really happy with it.
I also love Mangoes! 🙂
Oh I’m just being goofy with saying you all don’t want to read about my randomness. I have a strange, sarcastic sense of humor. LOL
Thanks for the Netflix perspective. I really would love to have it!
I absolutely LOVE netflix. I use it all the time and there are tons of workout options on it – both instant (so you can watch them from your computer) and discs to get mailed. It’s really not that expensive – I say go for it!
Those muffins look great. I am a sucker for a good muffin. We have Netflix. I really like having a movie available at all times. If we’re bored, we just see what’s available to “watch now”.
Your muffins just look so delicious!!!
My boy and I used netflix all last summer and LOVED it!!!
Have a great day!
we have netflix and love it, BUT we don’t have cable. so it makes life bearable. we typically use it to watch cable tv shows we otherwise couldn’t see 🙂 but if you have cable there isn’t a need to waste the money. unless you just wanna 😛
Nope. We don’t have cable either…besides the basic channels such as NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS, etc.
I love Netflix, I use the instant feature quite a bit. No more commercials for me!
Oh girl – you read my mind…I’m going to be writing a post today hopefully about the workouts on Netflix instant streaming! They are hard to find on the TV, but I found them online. Netflix offers great DVDs if you do the mail program, but we only have it set up through the Wii. Hold tight, and I’ll be posting soon!
I <3 Max Lucado!!!
I just bought my first Jicama of the season. Although…it's a vegetable. I love it in the summer from the crispy and hydrating properties! Great in salads or just by itself!
I don’t document most of the stuff I eat. Awhile ago I decided that it was pretty boring because I ate a lot of the same stuff for meals–BUT the dinners we make are usually different and interesting. So I decided to just post dinners. But it’s a good idea to occasionally make a post showing “the other stuff” too.
I love my Netflix! It’s so great!
I am the same way when it comes to adding in more spiritual growth. It actually calms my day. I enjoy the depth and solitude time (when I get it). Max Lucado is a favorite of mine. I would love to hear more about your bible study.
I’m with you on the whole Netflix thing. I would LOVE to get it (the hubby is indifferent) but I know I’ll be sucked into it.
good post idea! We’ve used Netflix before – it’s great if you use it. But I’m more of a “I want to watch ____ right NOW” so it didn’t work out so well 😛
Those muffins look so good. I love it when I have the ingredients to make a blogger recipe!
I used netflix all the time for workouts. They have some great yoga and pilates ones. Both on DVDs you can order and plenty just instant streaming!
I do have Netflix. I don’t however have cable – just basic network channels. That’s how I justify it! I love the instant option though, and you’re right, to have workout DVDs at your beck and call is pretty amazing!
And I am really loving mangoes, blueberries, bananas, and pears right now 🙂 Have a great day!
We have netflix and LOVE it! And yes, they do have workout options and if you have an xbox or ps3 “live” you can stream netflix for no extra cost 🙂 Some of the workouts are streamable!! We actually cut off our satelite and just do netflix now. We still have basic cable which is $10 a month and we do the $10 netflix option, so it saves lots of money and my 2 boys do not mind at all 🙂
I’ve actually avoided netflix.. I don’t want another reason to sit on the couch & skip the gym!
I’m loving oranges right now! 😛 and I don’t use Netflix, but I have OnDemand
Mmmmm nummy muffins! I’m going to a Marathon Cheering party at Morgan of Life After Bagels’s house in a few weeks and those would be perfect to bring! Thanks for sharing!
I subscribed to Netflix but have mostly used it for the kiddos. I’m in Canada and *most* of the good movies and ALL of the workout videos come up as “unavailable” which is why had subscribed to it in the first place. I have to figure out how to drop it….
My ex used to have NetFlix so I’d make him get me movies too, or use his ondemand thing, but it always sucked up so much of my time. It was a great way to see movies I want to see, or catch up on shows.
Favorite fruit right now is apples. Has been for awhile. Dunno why, but I am looooving them.
I have netflix and share it with my parents and brother. I like the variety that it has and it does have some exercise videos online that I have tried out. As far as yoga, I use videos on exercise TV more often than netflix.
We have Netflix and I really enjoy being able to preorder movies that have yet to come out on dvd and then when they do they just show up in my mail box. Last night we watch 127 hrs…intense. It saves a bit of money bc we aren’t seeing a bunch of these movies at the theater, but it’s also just nice to have something fun to watch on a rainy weekend.
I’ve been on a pineapple and kiwi kick- gotta love tropical!
I had netflix for a while, but want to try it (and all it’s new options!) out again 🙂
We have Netflix and I love the instant movies and shows, it’s so great to just have it there.
I’m really into pineapple right now. I don’t know why, but it’s the best
I don’t have cable, dish network or any of that crazy tv stuff so I don’t get any tv channels but…I do have Netflix hooked up to my tv. I love it. It is so much cheaper and I gives me the oppertunity to pick and choose what I want to watch.
I’m currently loving mangoes too!! Yesterday I managed to eat some mango with my breakfast, lunch and dinner. I need to get to the store ASAP and get some more!!!

I think you should definitely get in on the Netflix action! It’s so nice to have movies at your fingertips, PLUS there’s tonnsss of workout options there 🙂
P.S. I’m loving mangoes right now (as always)
We got Netflix at the beginning of February, which was perfect timing because we were faced with a blizzard at the time! (A real one with snow, not an ice cream one… Ha!) I really enjoy it because it opened a whole new realm of available movies. We were a Red Box family, but I knew I would never get to see movies like Food Inc. and Beer Wars if we were just strictly sticking to Red Box. I have definitely watched more movies in the past 2 months than I have in a year!
We used to do Netflix and I got a lot of exercise videos from them when my son was young. When he napped I could exercise. When my husband went back to school we cut it out as an extra expense. We just did a month free trial of their streaming videos only and we were NOT hooked. You can do it!
I miss yoga too! I get to do a little bit with my girls on the run group, but I miss regular practice! I think it made me so much more centered and I think it would help me to stay injury-free with running too! I’ve got to find a studio that fits into my schedule!
