This Is My Life

Posted: May 27, 2011 at 10:05 am

6:40 am: Wake up on my own without an alarm. Chill in bed for about 10 minutes with some prayer to start my day off on the right foot.

6:50 am:  Out of bed. Toss on workout clothes. Put in contacts. <— I want Lasik!

7:00 – 7:15 am: Get Makenzie and Braedon dressed.

7:15 – 7:45 am: Make Makenzie her oatmeal. Nurse Braedon. Try to remember to have a banana or something to not starve myself at the gym.

7:45 am: Pack up the three bags we need – cooler for food, gym bag, and diaper bag. Head out the door to the gym.

IMGP1388

8:10 – 9:20 am: Workout time! It felt fabulous to have the chance to finish my workout in the morning again! Operation Super Sweaty accomplished!

ELLIPTICAL HIIT: I alternated one minute at Resistance Level 5 and a speed of 50 – 60 rpm with one minute at Resistance Level 10 and a speed of 80 rpm. I continued alternating the two until I reached 30 minutes and wanted to fall off the machine. Intervals don’t mess around! Then, I did the following legs, chest, and triceps weight workout:

Move Reps (for 3 sets) Weight
Barbell Squat 15, 15, 15 90 #
Incline Barbell Bench Press 10, 10, 8 65 #
Side Step-ups with Leg Lift 20, 20, 15 bodyweight
Flat Dumbbell Bench Press 12, 12, 12 30 # per side
Front Barbell Shoulder Raise 12, 12, 12 20 # barbell
Cable Triceps Pushdown 8, 8, 8 50 #

9:30 – 11:15 am: Play time at the park!

IMGP1386 IMGP1387  IMGP1384 IMGP1381

11:30 am: Nurse Braedon while catching up on a few blogs emails.

11:50 am – Noon: Shower in my beloved shower!! Get dressed. Yes. All in 10 minutes. #thelifeofamother

12:00 – 12:30 pm: Clean up kitchen and prepare lunch for both kiddos.

IMGP1139 IMGP9892
Rice cereal? Chobani? Rice cereal? Chobani? Tough decision.

12:30 pm: Bible stories, kisses, and prayers for a nice, long nap. Nap time!

IMGP1391

12:40 pm: Actually make my lunch. Any guesses? Black bean wrap. I told you I’m loving on them lately.

IMGP1390

1:00 – 3:30 pm: Work on blog stuff. Like pre-writing this post. And playing on Twitter. You know. The important things. And play my daily game of “When Will I Burst?”.

image

3:30 pm: Nurse Braedon. Read books to Makenzie.

4:00 pm: Snack time!!! <--- my excitement level based on the # of !!!! used

4:30 pm: Daddy comes home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <--- remember that excitement level barometer?

IMGP1403

4:30 – 6:30 pm: Family time which may include some walks, lounging in the play room, sneaking in some errands and calling it fun to appease Makenzie. Yada yada yada.

6:30 pm: Start making dinner.

7:00 pm: Eat dinner, if not sooner. Do you see why I have a 20 – 30 minute time cap on recipes I am willing to make? Last night’s dinner featured an easy one. Trader Joes Chili Lime Chicken burger with traditional ketchup, mustard, pickles, spinach, and tomato. And traditional brussels sprouts on the side. What? Brussels are so a traditional side to burgers in our house.

IMGP1378

7:30 pm – Feed Braedon. Bathe Makenzie. Bible stories, prayers, and snuggles.

7:50 pm – Victory dance by the two parental units. Well, there would be a victory dance if we had the energy for one. Instead we plop our booties on the couch to talk and entertain ourselves with some form of high quality programming. The Bachelorette counts, no?

10:00 pm – Collapse into bed. Snuggle up and say goodnight.

As you can see, my life isn’t anything extraordinary. I don’t go to fancy events or travel across the globe. I have those regular, mundane moments (like dishes and laundry) that take up time so easily. This is my life. And my life means something. My life loves. My life laughs. My life has health. My life shares and uplifts. My life dreams. My life trusts. My life matters. This is my life. My life rocks!

  • What are you typically doing at 3 pm on any given day?

  1. Tina I think your life sounds fabulous! And I love M’s big smile at the park. What a cutie. And she is obviously so happy!

  2. jobo says:

My life ROCKS. Yours does too 🙂
I want Lasik as well. SO bad.
What am I doing at 3 pm usually? During the week, it’s when I take my ‘lunch break’ to do errands, do a workout or read a book for an hour (given my company is on the west coast and they all take lunch religiously!). It’s my me time during the workday and my way of breaking up the routine of sitting at my desk working from home.
    🙂

  3. At 3, I am typically probably breaking up a sibling fight. Ok not really, but we are having a snack around that time or playing outside.

My life is filled with joy and happiness (I have to be reminded of this somedays because being a mom of 2 young kids is hard)

    • Tina says:

I hope you have a great weekend!

PS – I always forget to mention to you that when I try commenting on your blog I can’t. I have to use the Name/URL option since I’m self-hosted and can’t comment on blogs without it. Just wanted you to know that I read and would love to say hello there. 😉

  4. Erica says:

Your kiddos are so cute 🙂 Busy busy days! At 3 PM- I am usually still working and thinking about snacking 🙂 My life…will be changing soon 😉

    • Tina says:

It will be a whirlwind at first, but then you’ll get in a groove and it will feel amazing. 🙂

  5. Maria says:

Okay, this makes me tired. You are Supermom! There’s no way I’d get out of that shower in 10 minutes!

Oh and the fact that you still go to the gym having to cart all of that luggage – well, all I can say is that you amaze me, Tina!

  6. Super Mom! Your chillren are so precious and are blessed to have a mother who cares about them so much. Super nerd here but the trees at the park look so gorgeous and green! 🙂

  7. At 3pm I’m sitting at my desk thinking about when my snack is coming! haha.

  8. Lauren says:

You are amazing to still have energy to fit in workouts most days! I love babysitting, but I always get so exhausted after being with kids all day. I’m always doing something different at 3 – running/exercise, napping, etc.

  9. Mellissa says:

3pm is usually a meeting of some sort to solve the next big marketing issue. Hopefully today I will sneak out a bit early 🙂

  10. Right now, I honestly have no idea. here in a week, I’ll have my nose buried in the books.

  11. I’ve been saying I was Lasik for the past few months! I can’t take these contacts! Looks like you got down quite a routine 🙂 Super Mom!!!

  12. Oh, I know just what we’re doing at 3 pm. My son would never let snack time pass by unnoticed. We have a snack at 3 pm, and we usually play outside after that. Yes I did say we. 🙂

I am impressed with the speed of your bedtime routine!

We have that same little Bible. 🙂

  13. Holy busy days huh?
At 3pm pretty much every day I’ve decided that Ive done enough for the day and just kind of sit at my desk pretending Im busy. Unless Im actually busy, then I’ll work, but I try and avoid it if I can.

  14. At 3PM, I’m doing a wide variety of things. The life of a college student (or recently graduated one, I guess!) I actually thrive on a schedule though, so I’m kind of excited for the days when I’ll have a better plan of what I’m doing!

  15. Actually sounds like a pretty extraordinary life to me 😀 Love the pic of M holding the yogurt! Too cute!

  16. Heather says:

I had lasik and it was the best $$ spent! Totally worth it!
3PM is snacktime for me – though I usually try to wait for Colin to get home so we can have our snacks together (he gets home from school around 3:10). Every minute together counts, right? 😉

  17. Oh 3 pm is me stuck at my desk at work…blah! PS is it weird that I want to play on that playground? 🙂

  18. I loved reading this post. I think it is awesome to have a solid, balanced routine!

  19. 3pm? Probably just sitting down at my desk with my second caffenaited beverage of the day… trying to figure out how much longer i can procrastinate a project… 🙂

  20. Dang, that workout sounds good. Intervals can be no joke and I love how they trick your body so you burn more fat and sweat a ton! Definitely a great way to break out of a rut or just really push yourself. I did some intervals during my run today. Tough stuff.

Your life sounds fabulous. Love the looks on Makenzie’s face. They are always adorable.

  21. My life is CRAZY! I hear ya! 3 is typically when I go get Max. Today is the last day for that for the summer!!!!! See how excited I am about that?! I hope you have an incredible weekend Tina!

  22. Brenda says:

From one mom to another you ROCK. I feel I need to get my gym time in before anything else. So I try to go first thing in the AM. By 3 pm I am usually cleaning up around the house, cleaning, laundry. I try to have a nice place for when hubby comes home. It’s not always the case.

  23. My life is BLESSED! I’m so fortunate to have a wonderful, caring, loving family who supports me in my every endeavor. I have wonderful friends who I know I can always count on. Life is GOOD! 🙂

  24. Angela says:

HAHA! I’m very familiar with the “When will I burst” game!! Usually I like to “play” it in the afternoons when I’m trying to get work done in my office, am on a roll, and don’t want to disrupt productivity! On other days when productivity isn’t so high… 3pm involves things like Twitter and daydreaming about what my next blog posts are going to be about!

  25. Kara says:

At 3pm every day is usually when the baby wakes up from her last nap and I take deep breaths and remind myself that it’s just 2 hours of cranky baby time until 5pm when my husband comes home. 🙂

  26. LauraJayne says:

At 3 pm, I’m pretty much always at work and some days I’m eating lunch (aka FAIL)!

Love your daily plan – it sounds like you’ve figured it out, and I totally understand a 20 minute prep-time for dinner!

  27. I love it! you are such a good mom to those cute kiddos! At 3 p.m. 4 days/week i’m at my desk or in a meeting working – the other 3 days i’m usually having some ‘me time’ – cooking, working out, reading, watching TV or hanging with my puppers!

My life… is in transition! I would say we’re at the point where we’re LOVING our travels, events, etc… but are thinking of settling down, having children – it’s hard to know when but I know it will just feel right!

    • Tina says:

For us it was like a switch went off. Our guts just told us that now is the time and we couldn’t shake that feeling. You’ll know. 🙂

  28. Kacy says:

That sounds like a crazy but awesome day girl! Love it!

  29. Brooke says:

have you asked about those contacts you can sleep in? when i asked about lasik my doctor recommended them. i love them, and only have to take them out 1 night a week. plus i ran a cost analisys on it (numbers geek) and it would take over 10 years for the lasik to pay for itself. although that is considering my vision insurance so it might not apply to you.

just a (very long winded) thought.

  30. Jennifer Rahn says:

At 3 p.m., I’m going on 11 hours of awake time and am re-fueling my body with some *me* time (usually the NYT online or a good book). Henry is due to wake up and nurse in a few minutes, and Addie will wake up at 3:30. If it’s a good day and Eric makes it home before very late, there are another three and a half hours to go before he’s home to have dinner with us.

I’m with you on the need to workout in the morning, and for the complete gratitude that you get to lead the life that you have!

  31. Jennifer Rahn says:

P.S. Our schedules are eerily similar.

P.P.S. I haven’t started Henry on rice cereal yet, and I can’t remember the feeding schedule that I kept with Addison. When you feed him at lunchtime, do you also nurse him?

    • Tina says:

I started him just recently at the doc’s recommendation after he didn’t gain much between 2 mo and 4 mo. I always nurse him first and then give him rice cereal so nursing still takes precedence. Hope that helps spark the memory. I feel like its all new again too. LOL

  32. Ok, seriously missed the part about you eating breakfast…other than a banana! Left me hungry the entire time I was reading your post! At 3pm on any given day, usually babysitting and sitting down to my afternoon snack!

    • Tina says:

I ate my breakfast right when we got to the park. I packed up a yogurt bowl. Guess I should have cleared that up.

  33. I need to take notes from you!! I’ll need all the tips and tricks I can get for when baby #2 arrives 🙂

  34. Such a cute post! 3:00 p.m. is still nap time around here if I’m lucky. Today I’m lucky and the little one is still sleeping, hence why I got to read your post.

My life is blessed! I love being a stay-at-home-mom!

  35. Wow, Tina! You are one busy, busy bee!
    Have a great weekend! 🙂

  36. Becca says:

Awwwwww, I love the park pictures! Kiddo pics in general, actually… 🙂

At 3 pm on any given day? Right now it’s typically spent at home. Most days. Some days I’m working, and some Sundays I’m still out with friends. But the majority of my 3pm time is spent at home.
Actually, it’s just about 4pm here. I’ve spent the last several hours watching Dr. Who. And hanging out on various internet sites. And making sure my dad is all right–which he is. Yay for good recovery after surgery! 🙂 And napping. I fell asleep for maybe 20 minutes earlier? Doesn’t happen too often! It was kind of nice. 🙂

My life is full of blessings, I’d have to say. The main one right now being Dad recovering well. YAY!

  37. Errign says:

I don’t have a typical day, but today I was picking the little girl I babysit up off the bus to drive her to gymnastics class. Thrilling, I know.

Thanks for the peek into your life, Tina 🙂

  38. Megan says:

Love it! Thanks for a sneak peak into your day!

And as for LASIK – I know exactly what you mean! Being able to wake up in the middle of the night and not have to squint (or get within 2 inches of the clock) and read the time would be amazing…

  39. Holy cow. I’m in awe of you.

  40. Love this! I did a “day in the life” type post this morning! It is so fun to see what everyone does every day!

  41. Parita says:

I’m probably sitting in a meeting around 3 pm…boooooring! And I think my life is full of blessings!

    Have a great weekend, Tina!

  42. Jeannie says:

At 3pm, I am usually tryging to squeeze in some more of my to-do list or online before my boys get home from school. Your day sounds similar to mine except that I workout before my boys get up for school in the morning and I run errands or take Kyra out to park or storytime, etc… after the boys are off to school.

My life is overwhelming but a blessing & I wouldn’t have it any other way. 🙂

  43. LG says:

Oh wow – excellent post! I’m hoping to be a mom soon and that’s the kind of schedule I’d like to have. I imagine that your kids feel secure in the routine. And in the prayer time and snuggles! What an important and exciting time in your life, although tiring, I’m sure…you go, girl. :0)

  44. So you don’t really eat a lot until lunch time? I would be STARVING!! After a workout especially, I would be eating a snack in the park or in the car !:)

My life is BLESSED. 3 is usually the end of nap time or in the middle depending on the day.

    • Tina says:

Oh no! I had a yogurt bowl in the cooler that I ate at the park. I just didn’t get a pic of it. It had a chobani, 1 C Kashi, 1 C fruit, and 1/4c almonds. I also ate a banana before the gym. I would STARVE too. haha

  45. I loved the play by play of your day. So cute!
    3pm each day I’m at work–designing away!
Fill in the blank: My life is a journey

  46. Sounds vaguely familiar to my daily life! 😉 And P.S. I LOVE that you start your day w/prayer!
