Total Domination

Posted: September 4, 2011 at 4:13 pm

Don’t you love a Sunday afternoon/evening where you know you don’t have the typical Monday business ahead of you? Long live the three day weekend! And I hope you are having a good one so far!

While I certainly don’t have any plans to write home about going on tomorrow, I did have quite the good day yesterday.Remember that feat of accomplishment I shared with you yesterday morning?

IMGP1129-1

Well, I wasn’t about to let that milestone pass me by without a formal celebration. Psshaw! I wanted to party and do it up right! And if you know me at all by now, then you know that means some good eating, don’t ya? Winking smile

You better believe it.

IMGP1131-1

I had one thing on my mind to commemorate my first venture into double digit mileage territory: The Flying Biscuit. AKA some of the best breakfast grub around.

I fell in love with their well-known grits, biscuits, chicken sausages, and more a little over a year ago. Most of the locations aren’t convenient (kind of like paying to eat breakfast out), but certain times call for going out of the way and doing the unusual. Especially when it includes 50% off savings thanks to Scoutmob. For the record – you need to see if you can use Scoutmob deals in your area if you don’t know about them already. You don’t have to pre-purchase the deal like other group discount sites. Use what you want, when you want. Thanks so much to Lee for cluing me in!

After going back and forth over the menu, I finally settled on a decision that would get me a little bit of everything that I pine after at The Flying Biscuit.

IMGP1139-1

The Egg-stravaganza!!! And an extravaganza it was! Check it out….

IMGP1145-1IMGP1148-1

The infamous fluffy, creamy, want-to-know-how-they-make-them-so-dang-good grits.

IMGP1144-1

A giant, soft, warm, homemade buttermilk biscuit – with fresh apple butter!!!

IMGP1146-1IMGP1151-1

Spicy, full-of-flavor, chicken sausage and turkey bacon alongside two perfectly scrambled eggs.

IMGP1147-1

Two slices thick-sliced, whole wheat french toast topped with a fresh raspberry compote and a honey cream glaze (heaven in my mouth).

IMGP1150-1

I wanted to try a bit of everything and planned to share my dish with Makenzie. Turns out, ten miles will make a monster of my hunger.

IMGP1152-1

Total and complete domination! I ended up fighting lovingly giving Makenzie bites of my food. Oh, come on. Let’s be for real, here. I gave the kid the bare minimum and then told Peter to cough up his food. He wasn’t the one who ran ten miles. Girl’s gotta eat!

And you know what I did after that? Went straight home and crashed with a three hour nap. It was pure heaven and the absolute best way to celebrate reaching ten miles. It couldn’t possibly have been better. Well, besides that little thing we call DQ that made a special appearance later that night to ease watching the UGA loss. Winking smile

IMGP1174-1

Told ya. A very good day indeed. Who needs big holiday plans after a day like that?!

  • What have you been up to this weekend?
  • Does a challenging workout make you more ravenous than normal?

Congrats on 10 miles girlie!! So proud of you!! And now I want a Biscuit with apple butter and a blizzard please. LOL Although I don’t think I can run 10 miles right now to earn them LOL!!

  2. Oh my goodness.. I NEED Your breakfast.

  3. Oh man! You’re making me hungry….and a little guilty for having not run 10 miles 😉

  4. Good for you to treat yourself today!! We all deserve a day like this every once in a while, right? After 10 miles you especially do! Wow, everything looks great, but I’m lusting over that doughy-looking biscuit. I can’t resist biscuits! Yum.

  5. Amy Lauren says:

Sorry about the UGA loss. I’m a USC girl but wanted UGA to win and pull out a victory for the SEC yesterday. The French toast part of the breakfast looks amazing, but I don’t eat meat or grits so yeah. DQ is always great too but we don’t have it here :(.

Half marathon training will make you ravenous at times! I remember my 10 mile runs, I would be so hungry after them… after I ran the actual half, Clay and I ate at a buffet that night for his mom’s birthday and I was seriously scared they were gonna kick me out I ate so much. I don’t know if they’d seen a little girl put down so much food. It never happened when I was training for 5Ks and 10Ks, just the long runs. And just when I reached 10 miles or more. So crazy! I guess our bodies know what we need, though!

  6. Yeah, The Flying Biscuit! I love that place.

  7. Lauren says:

I can imagine how good that must have tasted after an awesome 10 mile run! My hunger goes into overdrive in half-marathon training, and I always eat like 3 bowls of cereal or granola after a long run.

  8. You definitely deserved that, it looks delicious!

  9. Oh man, a great breakfast + a DQ blizzard = perfect day to me!! Especially after a 10 mile run! Congrats on that…you deserved every bit of your celebrations!

  10. Um, you had the best day EVER! I wish I could go out for breakfast, but it’s too dang hard!

  11. Tiffany says:

Sigh, I miss The Flying Biscuit, we had two of them in Charlotte!

  12. Holly says:

DQ Blizzards used to be my traditional post long run treat!! Yumm!!!

  13. Anna Marie says:

Oh my goodness..an intense work out makes me very hungry! I did my first 8 mile last week and it was like the hunger monster had taken over. Lol. Next week is a 10 mile run so I know I am going to be ravenous. This last week was lighter runs so there is still some food left in the house. 😉 Lol! Half-marathon here we come!

  14. Well I just blogged about our weekend haha but I just had to comment on how awesome it is that you ran 10 miles! I can’t wait till I can get back to that point again. Also, your breakfast pics are KILLING me right now! You know exactly what I mean 😉

  15. Heather says:

I love that you celebrated the 10 miler – it’s definitely worth a celebration!!! Congrats!!!

  16. Liz says:

Now I really want to have a giant, full-of-everything breakfast tomorrow! So yum. And DQ to top it off. Perfect!

  17. Way to go on the TEN MILES, Tina! That’s so amazing!

  18. I miss my long runs from marathon training — I loved going out to eat that evening. It was always such a special day!

I love breakfast places like that — I am totally jealous of that biscuit. It looks amazing.

Great job on your run and it looks like you celebrated in the best possible way 🙂

  19. Heather says:

Woot Woot on the 10 miles… the breakfast looks amazing… although chicken sausage and grits are completely new to me! They’re not too popular in Canada I guess – must seek these out 🙂

  20. Lisa says:

I totally thought this would be a post about the beer. 😉

Big workouts make me a bottomless pit/hunger monster!! Biking 72 miles made me want to eat an entire pizza by myself . ..running Hood to Coast last year gave me a ravenous hunger for 10 days after the race!!!!!!

  21. Yesterday I ran 16 miles and felt hungry more often, but never ravenous. But today? I’ve been hungry all day! What’s up with the delay factor?

By the way, what flavor is that Blizzard? We have a DQ down the street and have never been because it’s like crack to me and I know just one taste would perpetuate an addiction.

  22. Sarah says:

    Congrats on the Ten Miles!!

And your breakfast looks delicious. Kinda wish I had that awesome of a breakfast…

  23. That breakfast is what dreams are made of! Long workouts definitely make me extra hungry. I felt like a garbage disposal yesterday after a 45 mike bike ride! Congrats on the 10 miles

  24. peacebeme says:

Every time you show a blizzard, I want one so badly! I don’t know why but there are NO Dairy Queen’s around where I live (only 30 minutes east of LA so it’s not like we are in the middle of no-where since LA is one continuous giant city all the way over here!). I love their mini-Blizzards, perfect size. 🙂

  25. That breakfast looked AMAZING! I always have a hard tiem giving up my yummy eats too. he he! And YES, I am ravenous after long runs or hard workouts. I usually end up eating MORE than I burned. I’d probably be better off working out less and eating less. ha! Oh well. Happy Labor Day tomorrow!

  26. Khushboo says:

OK it’s official, you have now motivated me to run 10 miles- INCREDIBLE eats…i can’t even choose 1 that stands out, all equally mouthwatering!

  27. Emily says:

Sounds about right…I usually eat a wicked good meal and then crash after 10 miles. I wonder what 20 miles would be like 🙂

  28. […] and I also snagged some candy-corn-ish mallows (?).  Yeah, yum.  I’m sure my friend Tina would be […]

  29. Oh, that breakfast looks absolutely amazing!

  30. […] Total Domination […]

  31. Runblondie26 says:

Lol. After finding out I was pregnant, we went to the Flying Biscuit and I ordered the same meal. (Is it weird I still remember that? Well, the yummy raspberry sauce is kinda unforgettable.)

Considering the baby was the size of a watermelon seed, I didn’t quite need the “fueling” as much as one would need after a 10 mile run. It was darn tasty though.

Go with your bad self. 10 miles, woohoo!

  32. Awesome on the 10 miler!!! I agree there is something so much more impressive when you hit double digits! You must be getting close to your race!!
