800 Calories Of Pure Sugar

Posted: September 12, 2011 at 12:33 pm

Now that I have gotten all the sad talk out of my system, let’s get back to the more normal tune of things around here. Thank you for your support and helping me feel like I’m not completely insane.

Getting caught up in depressing thoughts isn’t the only thing I do while Peter leaves me for a few days. I still manage to have some good times. Saturday afternoon, I did a little football watching with Makenzie.

Wait. I take that back. That game was not fun to watch at the end. So close, but not close enough! Ah, my Georgia Bulldogs, I shall still love you. And I think I may need to stop watching games. I feel like a bad luck charm.

I couldn’t watch the middle portion of the game because I was making the kids’ dinner and putting them to bed. Well, that’s when Georgia made some great gains. Then, as soon as I start watching again – they have all sorts of trouble (that fumble!). I told ya. Bad luck charm.

I had a good little dinner to sooth the pain of watching yet another defeat, though.

IMGP1297-1

Whenever Peter goes out of town I always find myself grabbing an Atlanta Bread Company sandwich and salad combo for dinner one night. It’s the perfect easy dinner combo!

A chicken salad sandwich with lettuce, tomato and onion on whole wheat bread.

IMGP1295-1

And a salad with blue cheese, cranberries, walnuts, and apples.

IMGP1296-1

After that, I decided to tuck myself in early with two of my solo girl’s night favorites.

FRIENDS on DVD (Season 5 – “The One Where Everybody Finds Out” = BEST episode!!)

IMGP1330-1

and the leftovers of a small bag of candy corn I nibbled on through the weekend.

IMGP1329-1

Yes, that is 800 calories of pure sugar I consumed in three days and I don’t give a tiny rat’s ass (FRIENDS-ism in case you didn’t know). I love candy corn and couldn’t refrain from it’s call at the store. Do they have to put bags for $1 right at the checkout lines?? They should know my patience would be waning grocery shopping with both children!

Oh well. I loved every sugary bite. Rolling on the floor laughing <--- me hopped up on sugar

While I certainly miss Peter a ton and go a little crazy without him here, there are certainly some highlights to down time alone. Peter’s This Old House marathons just can’t compete with my FRIENDS marathons. I think you would agree.

  • Is there something you always like to do when you have down time to yourself?
  • If you’re a FRIENDS fan, what are some of your favorite “FRIENDS-isms”? Mine = “You’re so pretty” (aka “wow, you’re special”) and “That is brand new information!”  (aka “no…really?!?!”). Clearly, I love any form of sarcasm.

I LOVE FRIENDS..woah that wasn’t mean to be in caps lock but I am glad I got my point across..I’ve probably seen each episode like a hundred times yet crack up everytime….”theres always rooom for jellllllllo”

  2. A place near me does pedis and cosmos. Guess where I go when I’m alone????

  3. mindy says:

“They don’t know we know they know we know!” – love that episode!!!

  4. teresa says:

I missed your sad posts… I’m sorry for whatever had you down. But I’m so glad to find another candy corn fan! I found a crazy vegan recipe for them one year and still haven’t made them. It looks fun though. I don’t know why they’d need to be vegan… as you say, they’re just sugar. Maybe I’ll find a regular recipe and make them with Organic sugar, just for fun. I just hate getting a stale bag which seems to happen too often. And I never manage to eat them slowly enough not to get a really sick tummy. Gee… I clearly have too much to say about candy corn!
And your food pictures always make me so hungry!!!
    Have a wonderful week!!!

  5. teresa says:

Oh, and the friends on a Thanksgiving when Chandler is stuck in the big box…

  6. But they don’t know that we know that they know we know!!

  7. I love candy corn!!! It reminds me of being a kid.
I actually kinda forgot about it, so I’m going to have to reacquaint myself 😉

Love friends as well, of course! Sounds like a perfect solo Saturday evening to me!

  8. I like the candy pumpkins best! ALMOST bought a bag yesterday at the grocery but luckily my husband deterred me! haha I DO love them though!

  9. Lauren says:

Oh you go girl!! Candy corn is only good one time a year and that is now! It’s kind of like the Pumpkin lattes at S-bux. I never seem to ever care about the calories because I know the season is so short lived. I’m going to enjoy them! 🙂

  10. when I have downtime to myself, I like to take a bubble bath and watch all the cheesey girly movies I can :-). While painting my nails.

  11. Amy Lauren says:

Well, I’m a South Carolina fan… so my husband and I were watching the game too. It was super close but I knew it would be, it usually is when we play Georgia. We didn’t play that great either and need to step it up before Auburn, Kentucky and Mississippi State. I really didn’t think we were going to pull out the win based on the first half, honestly.

Glad you had fun with the Friends marathon :). I just found out it comes on Nick at Nite now (makes me feel old that shows I grew up with are now on Nick at Nite!) so I will maybe watch there.

  12. Whatever you do, do NOT start watching Georgia Tech. We need all the help we can get. 🙂

Way to rock that bag of candy corn. I could do that with Reeses or peanut M&Ms. 🙂

  13. Courtney F says:

Candy corn is my FAVORITE Halloween candy. I have a bag that I refuse to open yet because once I do it is OVER!

  14. Well, we only have one thing in common about this post – we both love candy corn! What we don’t have in common is…GO GAMECOCKS! 🙂 I am a USC alum so Saturday was a good one for me. At least it was a good game to watch – living out in California now makes me appreciate SEC football SO much…people just don’t do football the same out here. I mean, where are the sundresses and pearls, girls 😉

  15. Friends and Dawson’s Creek are my two favorites when Jon is out of town. Though he will watch Friends with me and laugh along. 🙂

    My favorite Friends-isms:
    WE WERE ON A BREAK!
    That is brand new information!
    Could they/he/you/it BE any…?
And anything yelled out in crazy excitement Monica-style.
We also flip eachother off Friends-style in my house. We’re so mature.

  16. Annie says:

    A) I use “You’re so pretty”
    B) I have a huge weakness for candy corn – specifically the candy corn pumpkins. Those things are like pure icing, but I love them.

    🙂

  17. That’s my favorite episode!

“They don’t know that we know they know we know!”

  18. Megan says:

I just finished Season 5 (for the billionth time) this weekend too! “My eyes, my eyes!” I could seriously quote every episode – haha. I have been putting some clips on my blog posts – it’s always good to laugh! 🙂

  19. jobo says:

OMG, I LOVE candy corn! But even better? candy pumpkins!!!! SO good. I cannot buy them because I WILL eat the whole bag. So much sugar, but so good, so rare that I like something with that much sugar too 😉 And Friends? LOVE that show too. Do you remember the episode where Ross is moving and they are trying to get a couch up the stairs? And they go up and back like three times and Ross keeps saying ‘tip iiiittt! piv-ottttttt!’ and finally Chandler can’t take it anymore and starts mimicking him? Ah, I love that show (and hope you remember that ep!)

    • Tina says:

Hehe. When my parents were moving they had a “pivot the couch” moment going up some stairs. We all started shouting “pivooot pivoooot pivot!!!” at the same time. LOL

  20. Jess says:

HA, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Friends! My favorite is the episode where Ross is moving and the couch gets stuck in the hallway…and he keeps yelling ‘Pivot! Pivot!!” It KILLS Me everytime it’s on. Please tell me you know which one I’m talking about here??

  21. Oh man, I feel you on the candy corn!!! I LOVE the stuff!! I passed a huge value bag of it the other day and it smelled so good! They didn’t have any regular size bags so I skipped it b/c a huge value bag = trouble!!

  22. Ohhh, how I love candy corn. AND Friends. I think my favorite episode is the one where they compete for Monica and Rachel’s apartment. “Oh, I know!!! He’s a…transponsder!!!!”

  23. Whenever someone mentions Friends I think of the episode when Ross tries to take some leather pants off and ends up in the bathroom covered in baby powder, shampoo, etc. I also love the one when Joey puts on all of Chandler’s clothes and says “I’m Chandler, could I BE wearing any more clothes?” Awesome.

I’m not a big candy corn fan — but if that were a bag of mini Snickers they would not have lasted more than 3 hours.

  24. I probably say “That is brand new information” at least once a week.

I’m obsessed with Friends (have 8 of the 10 seasons on dvd. Keep wanting to finish the collection, but I always forget what 2 I don’t have!).

And even though I own so many seasons, I’m still pretty psyched to see the show is being played on Nick at Nite. Even if it makes me feel old because it’s been off air for that long already…

  25. Why is candy corn so addicting? I’m addicted to those mallow pumpkins! I have to watch myself otherwise I grab a few everytime I walk into the kitchen! I probably ate more yesterday than anyother day, but I don’t care, I loved every delicious bite I had!

  26. heather says:

Hi, im chandler. Could I BE wearing any more clothes?

I own all 10 seasons on dvd and still watch it every afternoon in TBS. 🙂

  27. Candy corn and Chicken Salad. Definitely two of my favorites that I haven’t enjoyed in I don’t know how long. Candy corn has always been a weakness for me. My mom used to put out dishes of it at Halloween. That was dangerous.
My favorite episode of friends is the leather pants episode with Ross, “The lotion and the powder have formed a paste!”

  28. I LOVE Friends. I have all the seasons except 1 and 3 (they’re on my watch list at the used book store).

I’m always using Monica and Ross’ alternatives for giving each other “the finger.”

Lately, I have been known to say, quite often, “Joey doesn’t share food!”

And, I may or may not have been know to produce some fake tears, followed by, “Fine by me!”

Finally, I have quit saying, “That reminds me of a Friends episode” in favor of the much shorter, “Friends episode.” My family knows what it means.

  29. Love, love, love Friends! My favorite Friends-ism are Joey’s “how you doin’?” My husband and I say it to each other all the time.

  30. Dorry says:

I’ve eaten almost an entire bag of cocoa goodness Love Grown Foods granola in the past 24 hours. 🙂 I love old Friends episodes, too – but a Sex & The City marathon is my go-to home alone entertainment.

  31. Erica says:

PSU lost too 🙁 That salad looks delicious! And yay for cheap candy! My go to is circus peanuts…weird, I know! When I have alone time…I like to search for recipes on blogs, practice my gym choreo or go to TJs!!

  32. April says:

It wasn’t your fault that the Dawgs lost… it was the Cocks! GOCOCKS!!!!!!!!!

I can’t believe it’s candy corn season (or almost that season) already!

  33. Mariel says:

I love playing guitar during down time! and making chocolate! 🙂

  34. Lee says:

You were a good luck charm for Jason for that game!

I’m not a huge candy corn fan but I can put a major dent in some Jelly Bellies.

  35. Laura says:

I am notorious for yelling outloud “I KNOW!” like Monica. I think thats the character I most resemble.

Ohhh candy corn. Yes its pure sugar but oh so delicious .

  36. Mellissa says:

Downtown is rare for me but I love to just sit down with a glass of wine and a book or magazine. I find that the most relaxing thing!

  37. Suzanne says:

My heart skipped a beat when I saw the USC logo! I am a die hard USC fan….that was an unbelieveable game and I shall confess I didnt watch alot of it……..I listened to the people I had over from the other room or the porch. My heart cant take watching a whole game….lol

  38. Haha Friends and candy corn, great mix 🙂

  39. I grateful to say that I do not like candy corn. I hear it’s addicting. I hear that it has these properties that require you to eat every single piece in whatever container it comes in. Luckily, that is one candy that I just can’t get behind (there are plenty others…)
I’ve been known to do the fist-bump “finger” at work… 😛

  40. Therese says:

“Can open. Worms everywhere!” I love Chandler.

  41. Samantha says:

Tina, you just made my day and warmed my heart. I LOVE FRIENDS!!! I have every season and I too, had a Friends Marathon. I even watched the same episode as you! I worked my way through season 5 this whole weekend. Sometimes I just get on kicks and I can’t stop watching (my boyfriend says I need to give up my daily addiction..pshhh).

  42. I. Love. Friends! Nick@Nite is starting to play the reruns, and last night they had the Top 5 episodes as picked by viewers … “The One Where Everybody Finds Out” was number one!

My favorite episode was actually last night’s #2 episode … “The One With the Embryos” (That is a BOYS apartment! It’s dirty and it smells! This is a girls apartment! It’s pretty! It’s so pretty! And look, it’s purple!)

Whenever I’m in an awkward situation with someone I don’t really know, I’ll turn to them and say “How YOU doin’?” Which pretty much guarantees that there will be more awkwardness, but I literally don’t know what to say but that.

  43. I use “Miss Chanandler Bong” a lot – the answer to the quiz question of what name is on the TV Guide that is delivered to the boys place (when they switched apartments and the girls were trying to win theirs back.

    🙂

    • Tina says:

Oh you don’t have to explain where Miss Chanandler Bong comes from to me. 😉

      • oh, GOOD. I may just come here now and then and say it. 😉

I should have known! at the risk of sounding like I partake (I do not…), another favorite is when Jon Lovitz is the restaurant owner who shows up stoned to audition Monica’s cooking… one of the funniest episodes to me.

“tartlet. tartlet. tartlet. the word has lost all meaning”

        😀

  44. I justify my candy corn consumption by telling myself that it’ll never be fresher than it is in early Fall. Then I devour a bag, like you.

  45. Friends is the BEST show EVER! A few moments to remember – Ross, Chandler, and Rachel taking his new couch up the stairs and him yelling “PIVOT!,” Ross going to the tanning salon and counting Mississippis, and the Thanksgiving episode where they all play football (old school episode)!!

    Ahh the memories 🙂

  46. I love, love, LOVE Friends!!! It’s my go to when I’m having a bad day!

  47. That episode of Friends is one of my favorites!! When I have down time, I love reading, doing yoga, running, and browsing dailypuppy.com!

  48. I’m not the only who collects Friends DVDs by season!

  49. Lauren says:

I LOVE that episode! Favorite friend-isms include Monica’s excitement and “I know!!” statements and Chandler’s weird way of emphasizing phrases.

  50. If my hubby is gone, I am likely to watch a chick flick or to sprawl all out with scrapbooking stuff.

I think Friends was the funniest show ever. One of my favorites was when Phoebe was trying to get Chandler to admit he was involved with Monica by propositioning him. Hilarious!
