Unexpected Free Day

Posted: October 1, 2011 at 4:59 pm

Today’s schedule originally had me pretty busy. Long run in the morning. Baking after that. A hair appointment in the afternoon. A party to celebrate a friend’s 30th birthday tonight. Too bad none of that worked out.

My hair stylist came down with something, and I had to reschedule my appointment. No big deal. These split ends aren’t going anywhere. She’ll just have more fun with them next week.

Makenzie is pretty sick as well with a bad croup like cough and a high fever off and on. Can’t leave her for the night, so no party. Bummer. I was looking forward to hanging out with some good friends! And making/eating some Better Than Crack Brownies.

Why, hello there, unexpected free day! I would rather have done my original plans, but today didn’t shape out so badly either. I snuck in a nap, folded laundry, and got Makenzie’s birthday party invitations filled out.

Good thing, too. I have her party planned for three weeks from today. I’m on top of things. Clearly. <--- where is the sarcasm font???

I guess it’s time for me to sign off and enjoy my time soothing childhood aches and pains, scrounging up something for dinner, and catching up with the DVR or perhaps even picking up a book that doesn’t talk peroneus longus and sternocleidomastoid. As fun as that is, it will be a nice change. Winking smile

  1. I love that lentil recipe! I have a similar one that I make several times a month when the weather gets cooler! I rarely ever have free time so I like to use it to catch up with friends, sleep, or run!

  2. sometimes unexpected free days are the best. hope your little one is better soon!

  3. Definitely as a special catch up time! Good luck planning the party! I hope M feels better soon!

I’m planning to try that lentil recipe when it cools down a little more. It feels a little more like Fall here today, but it’s still warm. In a few weeks it’ll be hoody weather and I’ll make it :).

Sorry you couldn’t go to the party or get your hair done :(.

  5. Unexpected free days really are the best sometimes. Shane and I are actually having an unusually relaxing weekend. I kinda love it 🙂
Have a nice night in, love!

  6. Khushboo says:

I love unexpected free days – depending on my mood, I either try and cross things off my to-do list or do nothing at all…sometimes it’s a pleasure to be lazy and not worry about a thing. Hope M feels better!

  7. katie says:

I hope your little princess feels better soon, its not fun when little ones are sick : p

Glad you got some free time though to do stuff, cute invites!

I like to paint my nails, read a book, or organize things that need it in my free time that I get ; )

    and Alyssa rocks! Love her!

  8. Oh no, hope M gets better quickly. Poor thing. LOVE party planning. Get a little over the top about it LOL. Jason usually has to reel me in and bring me back to reality 😉

  9. Lori Lynn says:

I found a really good Trader Joes Lentil Vegetable soup that I had recently. It’s one of my favorites. Your soup looks a lot like the Trade Joes kind!

  10. Yeah – I’m a fun feature?? no way.
Just got home – relaxing now in our pj’s. Had a blast in ATL – ate at The Vortex and played at Piedmont park!

  11. Lindsay says:

Awwww, we have the same invitations for my 3 year old princess’s birthday too! 🙂

In my free time I usually read, organize, or spend some time with my DVR 🙂

    🙂

  18. Kace says:

OMG I LOVVVEEEEEE party planning. In every wedding I’ve been in, the maid of honor has delegated all things shower theme and decor to me. So fun! (def. has to do with my elementary ed background haha.)

    • Tina says:

Want to plan Makenzie’s party? 😉

      • Kace says:

Hmmm……off the top of my head: (not sure if this is a kid or adult party so adapt accordingly)

A tea party with mini sandwiches and mini desserts – pink, blue, and yellow coated cake balls covered with sugar sprinkles (the kind that look like glitter), different flavored teas or cold drinks.

Each table is a different princess; and each guest gets a tiara for said princess

        Pink. Everywhere. (duh, haha).

Wow I feel on the spot here haha. If I think of anything else I’ll be sure to drop another comment!

  19. can you tell I’m just catching up with my blog reading? 🙂

thank you so much for the sweet shout out! YOU bring a smile to MY face. and your kiddos certainly help, as well. 😉

and gaaah, mackenzie’s princess party! can I come? I’ll wear my cinderella costume and the princess wand I made at my 5th birthday party.
