It’s A Small World After All
Posted: July 9, 2010 at 6:08 pmI badly wish the title of this post related to being at Disney World and experiencing the magic encapsulated in those 30,500 acres.
However, it relates to still a pretty magical part of my morning yesterday. As always, Thursdays are the playgroup dates for the Mom’s Group I am in. This particular morning we hit up Chick-Fil-A for a breakfast/snack and some playtime on the indoor center for the kids. After devouring a fresh fruit cup and watching Makenzie tackle the tunnels and tower of terror to the slide it was time to pack up and head out. But before any of that I was confronted by someone.
her -- “Hey, are you Tina?”
me -- “Umm, yes.” while in my head saying “How do I know this person?? I’m usually so good with names and faces!!! Why can’t I remember?”
her -- “Oh! I read your blog! How are you?”
me -- “Really? That is so neat. It’s great to meet you. I’m doing wonderful. How are you?”
I got to meet a reader just by chance! It was really awesome. We were able to chat for a few minutes and realized we go to the same gym. We even chatted through email later that day. Even from the brief encounter I can tell she is such a cool, sweet person and has two adorable little girls to boot. I really hope I get the chance to see her again. Hi Stacey!!!! 🙂
We have been having a serious heat wave here. Did you know that feeling like the Wicked Witch of the West is the new in thing?
I’m melting…I’m melting!!!
At least that’s what I tell myself to make myself feel a little better. Or I spend the afternoons at the grocery store or in the pool to cool off. The pool is much more satisfying.
Not only does it help keep us cool for the time being, but it also helps me entertain little Ms. ‘Tude as I have so fondly named her in the past month. I love her dearly, but from about 1 to 5 pm she is not my favorite person in the world. I need to get a picture of the faces she gives me. It looks something like this…
…but cuter because in my eyes she is still the cutest child on the planet. I am also looking forward to entertaining her with the free trial membership I received to review Sesame Street E-Books.
For all you moms and future moms out there – keep an eye on the review post coming after my trial period. M’s obsession with Elmo should entertain her and therefore help keep my temper and patience cool, even if the rest of me isn’t quite there. I never thought there would come a day that summer was not my favorite season. It’s here. Fall needs to hurry it up already!
- Have you ever had a “small world” moment? What was it?
- What is your favorite season? Before M, summer always was because it was when I got a break from school and work. Now, fall all the way! I love the many activities you can do in the comfortable weather.
- How do you keep cool in insane heat? Ideas are very much appreciated!

I have had a lot of small world moments at college. One of my best guy friends ended up being my mom’s best friend’s neighbor! So whenever my mom visits her best friend I get to visit mine! (We both are from California & go to school in Arizona)
My favorite season is Fall. I just love when the leaves change colors. It’s so beautiful where I go to school. There is a cemetery right next to my dorm (seems creepy but it’s not) and in the fall all of the trees make the cemetery look beautiful. It’s nice to look at when I’m walking to class.
Have a great weekend!
You’re famous!!!!!!! And I have had the honor of meeting you in person myself so I feel really special!! 😉 That is so super cool!! My sister Jenn was recognized by one of her readers last year at the start of the Peachtree Road Race and that absolutely made her day. The girl she met went on to start her own blog and her sister has one too and now I’m really good bloggie friends with that girl’s sister. So funny, right?
I love summer b/c I’m off from work, but fall is so much fun and there is so much yummy food!! I’m excited about when my little boy can dress up for his first halloween! I was daydreaming about that earlier today! 😉
Have a great weekend, Tina!! 🙂
I love that you ran into a reader! That’s such a great moment to have.
And I have totally thought of the wicked withc reference a few times over the last few days of these heatwave. Thank goodness it has cooled a little today.
How cool. We actually just had a double small world moment this evening. Met up with friends for happy hour turns out that another person who showed up was a friend from ages ago (even helped photograph wedding) and then another person was friends with another couple we’re good friends that were supposed to be out too. Typing that up abbreviated sounds less exciting LOL. Summer is still my fave season – gives me a reason to be in the pool all weekend!
Oh my gosh, that is so cool! I dream of the day that a reader recognizes me 😀
Wow, what a cool thing, to be recognized by a reader! Haha, you are famous!
I keep cool by popping ice into my mouth like candy. Also, going out for a short run in the morning and sweating it out a bit, actually keeps me cooler! Oh, and McD’s ice-cream cones!
That’s so cool that you were recognized from your blog! Your like a celebrity 😀
Keeping cool in this awful heat?? If you get any ideas, please share!
Small world moments are SO FUN!!! I love them- i really believe it is by Gods will that they happen!!!
GAH IT IS SO HOT HERE! like 110 deg.. i am going crazy!! Just drinking lots of smoothies, wearing LIGHT clothes (aka jeans make me have a heat stroke)
thank you for all of your constant encouragement- its woman like YOU that inspire me!!! you have such a beautiful heart after God!
How cool that a reader recognized you! That has yet to happen to me but I can’t wait until it does!
When it’s hot I basically lock myself in an air conditioned location and I don’t leave unless it is absolutely necessary. I hate the heat and thus love fall and winter!
how fun! you are famous!
I like cold showers when its really hot ouside!
how COOL that you and a reader ran into each other! I have ppl email me telling me they live in San Diego and they ve been reading my blog….so they do exist 🙂 which it’s nice to know but meeting is even better!
Fave season, always summer.
Small world…when i was a kid, I used to LOVE Small World at Disney. We went every year for about 10 yrs and it was the highlight of my year 🙂
your houseboat wishlist, LOL’ed at that one….me too!!!
That is so neat that got to meet one of your readers. I hear you on needing cooler weather right now. This summer has been miserably hot and it does not help the morning (or all day) sickness. I have litterally sat in my house fantasizing about a nice cool crisp fall. Crazy hormones make me want to cry sometimes thinking about it and how it can not get here fast enough right now. I can not wait to hear your review on the E-books.
I saw a girl I went to highschool with ( in small town Kansas) on a beach in Sydney, Australia. I was like, seriously! I’m on another hemisphere! But a great way to keep cool in the summer is to carry around a bottle of rose water. It’s the most refreshing feeling on hot skin.
That’s so funny! (about the random reader meeting, not Miss M’s new ‘tude!)
I love Sesame Street….can’t wait to here about the E-books.
Late summer/early fall is my favorite time of year. Right now it is so hot, I have reluctantly turned on the air conditioning. Being pregnant and trying to move into our house in 100 degrees has not been easy!
That is so great a person recognized you out and about! That has yet to happen to me!
Luckily I’m back in OH so the extreme heat is gone! In GA I stayed indoors a lot! haha!
That’s really cool a reader recognized you! That IS a small world!
Hope you’re doing well!! 🙂
My favorite season is fall but in Texas I am stuck in summer (95+ degree heat) for about 9 out of the 12 months. 🙂
That’s cool!! I’ve met a reader before, too. But she said hello via email first:) Cool feeling though:)
Too crazy that someone recognized you! That would be so cool!
[…] a choice, but may feel pulled towards choosing a particular path or decision for a purpose. Even meeting a reader like I shared on Friday applies. It was a last minute decision for our playgroup to meet at that […]
That is so cool about the random blog reader meet-up! I’d love to meet a reader IRL – it’s only happened once and then it was really more of a fellow blogger than a straight up “reader” but still…would be super-cool! You are famous 🙂
