my crazy jukebox
Posted: August 3, 2010 at 6:00 pmHello lovelies!!! Is it really only Tuesday? Today has been one long, and pretty unproductive, day. I did get my next Examiner article on exercise safety precautions finished. And I guess it’s a good thing it is only Tuesday since I have quite a bit to do before we leave Thursday night. I want to start off by thanking all of you who left such wonderful comments on my last post. I loved reading each one. Your comments always bring such a smile to my face and the love pouring out from you never ceases to amaze me.
Today’s 30 Days of Insight post is to share the 5 songs you would want to listen to on a desert island. I can’t stick with a topic though, so instead of coming up with those songs today, I kept having songs pop into my head that related to how my day went. I call everything that ran through my head My Crazy Jukebox. I don’t think you could find a wider array of music playing in someone’s head. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
California Gurls by Katy Perry
No, I’m not a California Gurl. Pretty much the opposite, as I live in Georgia and wear workout shorts with t-shirts on top. How does this apply to my day? Because I think I am getting sick. Just as, sadly, this song is quickly rising on my “getting sick of it” list. I’ve had a headache all day and my body feels dead. I haven’t been able to focus or get many of the numerous to-dos done. I’ve been trying to rest. Wait. What is rest? I think I forgot how to do that.
Living on a Prayer – my lover Bon Jovi
Love me some Bon Jovi tunes. They and Aerosmith are my all time favorites. But that’s not why I think of them today. I specifically thought of “Living on a Prayer” because I have done a lot of it lately. I’m not going to go into much detail yet, but in September I hope that many of you will participate in a 30 day activity to help affirm our own self love and worth. I pray consistently for God’s guidance in helping me organize this effort and to trust Him to take it where He wants. I actually cried today because I am bursting at the seams to share more with you all, but the husband had to convince me I still need to give it more time in prayer. I know he’s right, but I can’t help to overflow with emotion. This desire is completely, 100% about bringing others joy and has nothing to do with me. I just feel like the vehicle to share it. I have excitement and hope for what this may do for even just one person out there. And also fear that you all will think I’m crazy because it’s no big deal and wonder why I care about it so much.
Baby Got Back – Sir Mix A Lot
Okay, totally crazy to switch it up to THAT, but I had to. My sister visits tonight and this song is basically “our song'”. There have been many road trips where you could catch us blaring some “anaconda don’t want none” and going crazy. I know the words by heart. Plus, we have the booty, so it suits us.
You Are Beautiful – Christina Aguilera
I am LOVING all the positive messages going around for the Operation Beautiful book release week. And the book is stellar. I finished it last night. It surprised and delighted me to see a faith section at the end. Also, I have been feeling beautiful with my new hair. I am in love with the darker locks! I can’t wait for it to get even darker since I have to get a second coloring done in a couple months for my hair to fully take it. In case you missed yesterday’s post (or didn’t realize), it looks like this now…
…in all my haven’t showered yet, super flat, no-makeup, pajama tee-shirt glory. Still beautiful though. I can’t go changing my tune from yesterday. 😀
Push It- Salt N Pepa
I guess I should say “Press It…Press It, Real Good!” instead though. Because this song is for my new friend. The Tofu Xpress. Tonight it makes its grand debut. I have it chilling in the fridge as we speak. Look for the review and a recipe tomorrow.
Lastly, I leave you with the song that makes me feel good every time I hear it. Our God – Chris Tomlin. I seriously love it. Even more than my hair. That’s saying a lot.
I might not love it more than you all though. Let me go ponder that conundrum. Peace out! And give the song a listen if you need a bit of empowerment for your day.
- What is a song you are sick of these days?
- What is a song that empowers you?
- Do you have a hard time going for something you feel strongly about?
Ok…I really don’t like that song by Katy Perry…I think it’s because I am a “California girl” born and bred but I am about as far away from the stereotype as you can get. I don’t even like the beach, for goodness sake!
Haha! Yea. Stereotypical things are never cool. I think you’re awesome for it.
loved this post! and i love my tofu press, can’t wait to hear what you think
My sweet man and I listen to KLOVE a lot here in Pittsburgh and hear that song often. Great reminder of how great our God is! 🙂
I’m also sick of the “California Girls” song! Actually, just about all my songs on my ipod are getting on my nerves since I hear them day in and day out HA! Time for a switch-up, for sure!
A song that has really been empowering me lately is “Alice” by Avril Lavigne. I don’t know why, but it really gets me pumped up when I run! It’s not what you’d typically think of when you think of a great “running song”, but for me, it works and pushes me harder!

Great songs!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, I’m pretty sick of California Gurls, it ALWAYS gets stuck in my head!!! And I know a lot of people who like Billionaire, but I’m not into it!
Love your hair, it looks great!!!
Love the new hair! I used to color mine all the time and got SO sick of it. So, I’m back to my darker color (with a few gray:) and much happier 🙂
I don’t listen to much radio so I can’t really say a song that I am sick of.
i don’t know about empowering songs, but i too am 100% sick of California Girls. WAY too pop-y and i think it kinda makes all California girls sound skanky. and i think we all know that they’re now 🙂
I love Baby Got Back too!
SO sick of “Hey Soul Sister” by Train
Song that empowers me is
More Beautiful You by Jonny Diaz. Makes me cry and feel empowered at the same time-EVERY time I hear it.
If you’ve never heard it, go to youtube RIGHT NOW and watch it.
It’s incredible 🙂
I only have a hard time going for something I feel strongly about when I’m not sure if the timing is right. 🙂
Yes! I featured that song on my blog once before. It is such a beautiful song and message. It never gets old either.
oh my goodness…I LOVE “Our God.” I seriously get chills every time I hear it!
I couldn’t agree with you more…is it only Tuesday!?
Love the darker locks! I also love your choices in music! I am right there with you on those choices. Bette Middlers “The Rose” always gets me! It makes me rethink things when I get overwhelmed. There is always a way to start over. I am getting sick of anything Ke$ha! I am over it!
I love Chris Tomlin!!!! And I love your hair!!!! Love it, love it, love it! 🙂
Wow I have so many of the songs you listed on my ipod right now!! I really love It’s Raining Men by Aretha Franklin! I love how strong her voice is and that song just makes me want to dance! I teach aerobics, and when that song comes on in my class I have to resist the urge to push repeat!
Haha! It’s Raining Men is one I love but always brings back bad memories. It’s the song my friend and I were listening to when we hydroplaned and then that’s what led to us being on the side of the road and getting hit by a car going 50+ mph. Not the best memory to attach to a song. LOL
I love Our God is Greater!
and your hair is super cute 🙂 I love the color. It suites you.
I loved this post, it’s so crazy how a song can do so much for you. Lately I have been listening to a lot of the music from the Glee Cast because they are usually such classic hits including “Push It” and of course some Madonna songs, Queen songs, and Journey songs. I don’t know how I would get my workouts done without good songs 🙂
LOVE Glee! I love their redos of everything. I was even impressed when they did Aerosmith’s “Dream On”. That is saying a lot from me. Can’t wait for it to start back up again.
I am getting sort of sick of that Airplanes song. Although I still like it.
I like the darker hair!
Maybe it’s just the station I listen to, but I hear a lot of Sir Mix-A-Lot during rush hour around here… what is that??? lol
One song that empowers me (which is totally goofy- but it works) is “Fighter” by Christina Aguilera. It pushed me through 4 minutes of my half this week!
Fighter is the song I used for my fitness routine in my competition. I did a kickbox theme. It was so much fun!
And I never hear Sir Mix A Lot on the radio. So funny you hear it all the time. Haha!
SOOOO sick of Alejandro by Lady Gaga.
But, I have always adored “Flood” by Jars of Clay. So uplifting.
Love your hair! It looks great!
I can’t believe it’s only Tuesday…such a jam packed week!
Hey Tina! I love these songs – such a good random list. 🙂 I’m kind of sick of Hey Soul Sister by Train – its played SO much. A song that is empowering me right now is Dog Days Are Over by Florence and the Machine. So good. 🙂
Hope you’re having a great night. Take care and feel better!
I really love your sincerity and am excited to see what it is you’re talking about.
I wish I had the same sincerity when it comes to faith. It has been a long few years for me with regards to that.
It’s always a growing process. The main thing I try to focus on is my relationship with God. Everything else eventually falls into place. The “religion” part of it can get in the way of all that and has turned so many off.
Love the hair!!! I used to be PLATINUM blonde, so I know how long it process is for the darkness to take!! I finally said…just go as dark brown as you can…at first she was scared of me not liking it, hence the transition and baby steps, but I finally just made her do it after to 3rd color appointment!
Love your fav songs….I LOVE salt n peppa…I am a “Shoop” gal. “Superwoman” by Alicia Keys always makes me feel empowered. Xtina does a great job of that as well. I am a little sick of everything on my ipod these days…I am in DESPERATE need of someone taking it, and giving me a whole new playlist for my workouts!
Gotta tell you—Aerosmith was my first concert in 7th grade…Get a Grip tour…..front row, my moms BFF was a groupie, hah….Steven Tyler sung to me 😀 best moment of my life. I was obsessed, wanted to be Alicia Silverstone SO bad back then.
Thats SO exciting you got a Tofu Press…I want one So bad!!!!
Have a great night!!!
Aerosmith does such a great show! I saw them front row too a few years ago and loved it! Although last year I went when they had all the injuries and the show was crap. I think they played 45 minutes. Poo.
I love the songs Beautiful Monster by Ne-Yo and also Ghost by Fefe Dobson. Not sure why…I just do! I am sick of all things Ke$ha. Catchy annoying songs that I can’t get out of my HEAD!!
GREAT POST – I love that little California Girls, too – SO cute!
What is a song you are sick of these days? ALEJANDRO OMG I hate it. It’s such an ear worm.
What is a song that empowers you? suddenly I see
Do you have a hard time going for something you feel strongly about? I would have to say no – I tend to figure out a way!!
The only song I know all the words to is Ice Ice Baby. That is my empowerment song! 😉
I just got my tofu xpress today. I’m so excited to give it a try!
Your hair looks great and you are just SO beautiful! I can listen to a song for a long time without getting sick of it…then one day, it’s like BOOM! Never want to hear it again. Billy is my iPod keeper – he adds new music for me and keeps me up to date. 🙂
I don’t really have any songs that I’m sick of yet (that’s why I switched to country 5 years ago!).
But I will say that one of my all time uplifting songs is “Testify to Love”. Ever since I heard it on “Touched by Angel” (like 15 years ago), I have loved it!
California Girls is my anthem! Love the playlist!
Great song choices! I think the song I’m most sick of hearing now is the Airplane song, wish right now, wish right now, wish right now…ahhhhhhh!
Love the dark locks!
I hate “California Girls.” Something about Katy Perry singing “west coast represent!” is just wrong wrong wrong. “Push It” is my jam!
oh they’re really yummy! I made the original recipe last night for some friends who had a death in the family, one conveniently didn’t fit in the box so I dubbed it “quality control.” It was delicious! But luckily my healthier ones were just as good. Although addicting! I should have halfed the recipe because I still have around 14 mini muffins in my kitchen just calling my name… 8-/
LOVING the hair!
you are beautiful <3
Lol…your song choices crack me up 🙂
I keep thinking that I’ll get sick of Train’s “Hey Soul Sister,” but it just makes me so happy every time I hear it!
Have a great day, Tina!
I’m sick of Train’s Hey Soul Sister too!
I am sick of Train’s Hey Soul Sister too! Ugh, please stop playing it! And California Girls — especially the part where Snoop says “bikinis, martinis, (zucchinis)” ??? I’m almost positive he says :zucchinis.
I’m not sure what you are referring to, but extra prayer is never a bad thing! If your husband thinks it is best to continue to pray, then I encourage you to do so!
OOOOO loving the hair girl! Looks GREAT 😀
I’m also sick of that CA Gurls song..as well as almost sick of ‘Ridin’ Solo’. They just over play it wayyyy too much.
You warm my soul. Thank you for the musical mix, and the great song at the end.
I love your hair, you look fabulous natural. Very operation beautiful of you!
I didn’t even think about that. But I guess going au natural does fit the OB mindset. Love it!
I forgot as I try to put it out of my mind…the songs that bug me
Song I’m sick of: Hotel Roomservice by Pitbull – I didn’t like it from the very start!
Song that empowers me: I LOVE Open Your Eyes by Snowpatrol right now. I have it on one of my spin playlists and I made my class do it today – the energy builds toward the end and it makes me want to work so hard!
And for the last question… I suppose it depends what it is. If I have the means to go after whatever it is I feel strongly about, and feel that I’m confident that what I believe is right, then yes, I do go after it. But if I’m unsure about whether or not what I think is right, or if I think the outcome could harm me/someone else in some way, I’m more hesitant.
Great song by the way!! I love it!
Goodness gracious! I totally forgot to tell you that I love your hair! I can’t wait to see what it will look like darker, too! It’s so fun to change hair color and experiment with different looks! Right now I’m enjoying the heck out of being a fiery redhead. It matches my firecracker personality and I think I’ll keep it until at least after my show since I want to wear a green bikini! whoo hooo! 🙂
That will look so good!!! I wore a green suit too and loved it. I just sold it to someone about a month ago. I highly recommend Caron Hospedales. She made mine and it was a great price for the quality.
its so fun to switch hair colors around and darker hair can be a lot of fun. even tho they say blondes have more funs, brunette is where its at lol <3
I hated that Katy Perry song until this weekend – Cathe played it a lot at the Road Trip. Funny how things can change when you put them in different contexts. I am liking your hair a bit darker too actually. How dark are you planning to go????
I’m going to get one more “coat” early October. It won’t be too much darker than this. I’m excited.
And that is true! There are songs I used to hate but then loved after hearing them in a new way. Or sometimes after hearing them enough to where they just sucker me in. Haha!
I love Katy Perry but I’m really sick of that song as well. It’s in some serious heavy rotation. I always get motivated when I hear Kanye’s “Stronger.” Sure, he’s a tool but that song is awesome! Girl, you look faboosh w/o makeup! LOVE!
hi tina! you have a great blog. you seem like such an inspiration to be a happy and beautiful person. i look forward to reading more! 🙂 🙂
Aw, thank you!! And I’m so glad you stopped by. I seriously love connecting with other bloggers. And when people comment it always helps me get to their blogs…because I’m awful at keeping up with my Reader. LOL
I love your hair!
There isn’t a song I’m sick of yet. Ever since I moved five minutes from work and cut down my commute, I haven’t had much time to listen to the radio. But I do love Chris Tomlin, too.
Salt n Peppa NEVER gets old to me! It reminds me of college and all the fun we used to have dancing around and singing their music. The best!!
I love the darker hair! It looks great!
Thanks for such a helpful and informative article on working out when pregnant!! I think I definitely overdid it and now I’m paying for it on the couch forced to rest with my foot propped.
Love your hair!! 🙂 You are soooooo pretty!!
Great post – agree with your selection. California Gurls is definitely starting to grate on my nerves. As is anything by Justin Beiber. I have to listen to him all the time with my nieces.
I find a lot of Ben Harper’s songs to be empowering. Yes they are a little hippy dippy, but they have great messages. I love him.
I am so scared of failure that I hold back on a lot. It’s something I’ve always struggled with…
Sorry you are feeling sick, but I think that it is hilarious that you chose the Katy Perry song to represent that!!
