regularly scheduled programming

Breathe in. And…breathe out. A huge calming breath of pleasure to be home and back to regularly scheduled programming. I loved my weekend travels which included many delicious foods, a great city, and watching two friends tie the knot. If you haven’t checked out the recap, do so here. However, as wonderful as all those things were, it felt really nice to be home and back to normal.

I awoke this morning to get some work done on the computer and with the blog. It felt great. I like feeling productive. I also came to the decision to try a different blogging schedule and post around lunch time and then again at night. I want to see if I manage this schedule well, so as to not have my posts be too long. Both for me to write and you to read. Hey. I know I can get wordy. 😉

Back to my morning, though. After my productivity, I rewarded myself with a basic breakfast. A bowl of oats cooked with a mix of skim milk and water. And of course the obligatory peanut butter mixed in afterwards. I didn’t feel like much in the topping department, so I ate a banana on the side instead.

IMGP5954

The perfect pre-workout fuel! Which is just what I needed to head to the best workout ever. Although honestly I think every workout after a longer than normal break feels like the best workout ever.

I headed to the gym for the 9:30 spin class. I’m really glad I went early! I completely forgot that school started back up in my area this week. Stay at home mommies who now have extra free time after sending their kids packing on the bus dominated the place. I went into spin and nabbed the second to last bike. All the way in the back corner. I hate that bike since it always feels hotter in the back.

I couldn’t complain though. I was at the gym. Doing one of my favorite workouts and getting a good sweat to rejuvenate me. Spinning = the perfect pregnancy workout as I wrote about in a recent article (CLICK CLICK!). The icing on the cake came after class. On the way out, I noticed they set out a display of Kashi Go Lean Crisp samples. You betcha I got my grubby paws on one.

And ate it immediately upon arriving home as my post workout fuel. This pregnant gal was hungry! For the record, this Toatsted Berry Crumble Kashi cereal tasted amazing. I added a handful of Quaker Oatmeal Squares for more volume, which combined perfectly.

IMGP5961

I loved the crunch and flavor provided by the granola and berry crisps. Plus, it packs healthy grains and 9 grams of protein. For cereal, that ain’t half bad. What a great way to start the day!

  • Do you prefer reading shorter, more to the point posts or one long post? I admit the shorter post was much easier to type.
  • What is your favorite cereal combo? Do you like cereal for post workout food?

I’ve always wanted to try out that kashi cereal. It looks yummy!!

I not only prefer reading shorter posts, I also prefer writing shorter posts. But honestly, I’d read your posts whether long or short!! 🙂

  2. Ameena says:

I used to love this one cereal Trader Joe’s used to carry but they don’t have it anymore! Which is probably a good thing because I shouldn’t be eating so much sugar/gluten.

I like reading shorter posts because I read blogs during my little breaks throughout my work day. I don’t have a whole lot of time so the shorter reads are perfect!

  3. It’s always easier for me to read more of the short posts. Although I will say I’m very guilty for rambling on longer than I should! :p

  4. i’m not big cereal fan and i definitely don’t like to combine them! i know i know…i’m a freak 🙂

i think the shorter ones are easier to read…i mean, i read yours regardless of length, but i think shorter is the way to go unless there was some big event that happened that needs lots of explaining 🙂

  5. I almost bought that cereal the other day, but went with the blueberry clusters one instead. I love cereal all times of the day, but that’s probably because I’m in a cereal phase!

  6. Dorry says:

There are so many blogs that I LOVE so shorter posts with a few pictures are always great. 🙂 Wordier ones are good, too!

I love cereal. Lately I’ve been on a Puffins kick and I love Kashi GoLean. I don’t like sugary cereals anymore. I’m obsessed with oats in the morning and a bowl of cold cereal with strawberries is my perfect “dessert” about an hour after dinner.

  7. I feel the same way after traveling….it’s nice to get away, but no other bed is as comfortable as your own! Looks like you had a good time!

  8. I like short to mid-length. Admittedly, I don’t have much of an attention span.

And I’m a cereal junkie. I’ll eat it anytime.

  9. Mellissa says:

I much prefer short posts, but do read them all.

I will eat about any cereal, sometimes for breakfast after a workout but usually just because it looks so good 🙂

  10. Nichole says:

Girl, I love me some cereal.

    Welcome back!

  11. Short or long, I guess it doesn’t matter to me either way. You get the same information, right?!

As for cereal, I used to LOVE kashi, but sadly I can’t have GoLean Crunch anymore due to the soy. I love any kind of unsweetened cereal mixed with some melted peanut butter!

Glad you are back in your groove! Have a great day with Miss M!

  12. I prefer shorter posts probably – or really just ones with bullets or bolds – like you do! (love pics too!)

I love getting “back to normal” – I much prefer it to the hustle and bustle!!

  13. Lindsey says:

I prefer shorter posts also. Aren’t all these responses a relief? Hopefully the new schedule makes it easier for you.

  14. OMG – that Toasted Berry Crumble is my absolute fave. Love it over Greek yogurt. MMMMMM. Honestly, I prefer just one post a day b/c it’s easier to keep up with (for me). But, I think everyone should do what works best for them first and foremost. I love reading your blog so I’ll read long or short either way!

  15. I love working out early too! Plus, our 930 spin class is a lot less crowded than the 530, which I like. Cereal mixtures are the best! Quaker Oat Squares are always a good bet, along with Honey Bunches of Oats and basically anything Kashi makes 🙂

  16. I love cereal anytime, anywhere! 🙂

In general I prefer shorter posts, only because I only have a few short windows each day to read blogs – usually once in the morning, once in the afternoon, and once in the evening.

  17. I prefer shorter I think—to read and write!

  18. I’ve never tried cereal as a postworkout snack but it makes total sense. I do like it as a snack in general though.

  19. Becky says:

I think the shorter post is a nice way to go. It’s worth a try anyway 🙂

I love Kashi cereal. I especially like a cereal that has some protein because I’m always trying to add more to my diet.

  20. I prefer the medium-length posts 😉
Lots of pics are great, too!
PWO I love me some gluten free rice chex and Fage yogurt. I could eat that every day 🙂

  21. I like medium-length posts too!:) Sometimes I like longer ones if I have lots of time to just sit and read blogs (which is rare, but I LOVE when it happens!)
Cereal is one of my favourite post-workout foods – actually, it’s a good any-time food if you ask me! My favourite is Kashi Go Lean Original, but I also like Puffins and a lot of the Nature’s Path cereals.

  22. Girl, it looks like you are having a great day! Go YOU for nabbing the second to last spin bike! You are one fit, tough pregnant woman! 🙂

You know, I’ve NEVER tried spin before! I’m skrrrd. HA! When I do cardio at 5:30am I watch the spin class going on near my machines and it looks REALLY intense. I’m only waking up at that time and can’t imagine an intense workout at 5:30am. However, maybe that is just what I *need* to wake up!

I like short to medium-length posts more often. However, I feel like I ramble too much on my blog. I’d like to do two shorter posts but always end up preoccupied and my posts seem to take longer than I thought with pictures, sound bites and video:)

  23. I’m so jealous you get free samples outside of your gym class! I’ve never tried that before but it looks delish.

  24. Madeline - Greens and Jeans says:

It’s always so nice to get back to your normal routine! My favorite way to eat cereal is with yogurt and a sliced banana. I think I ate that every morning when I was in college!

  25. Kimberly says:

I like cereal ANYTIME!! That’s kind of why I don’t keep it in the house much–because that is ALL I want when it’s here–lol!

I like short and sweet post, but have a hard time keeping my own as short as I would like! I can’t seem to post everyday, so when I do post I have too much I want to share 🙂

  26. I like short-to-medium length posts (for both reading and writing) usually– though I don’t mind longer ones if it’s a really interesting subject matter! I’m still trying to find a balance with my blog writing, too! I always want to write a post earlier in the day, but usually don’t find the time until the evening! (it’s also hard living on the west coast, when so many bloggers on the east coast are WAY ahead of you in their daily activities!)

I love cereal, but I almost never eat it because it never keeps me full! When I do eat it, I love Kashi cereals and plain, ol’ Cherrios!

    • Tina says:

I can only do cereal as a snack because it doesn’t keep me full as a meal either. I wish it did. I love cereal!

  27. Michelle says:

I’m going to hop on the shorter posts bandwagon, although my own posts tend to be long!!!

I love granola, or grape nuts, or anything like that. And heated up is delicious, too!!!

  28. I like both kinds of posts — long ones or short ones. As long as I have something to read and some pics to look at, I love it! I have a hard time with long blocks of text — I need a pic in there somewhere! 🙂

I love cereal, anytime, any kind!

    • Tina says:

I completely agree! I can’t do long blocks of text either. I always end up skimming. If pictures break it up I am more likely to read the whole thing.

  29. Jennifer says:

I’m with you on the being back on schedule thing. We got home Saturday night and Sunday I just didn’t feel up to getting the house back in order. So yesterday and today was the day to be productive and it feels good. When it comes to short or long posts, I usually have a problem with writing something too long. My husband can easily tell someone that I am very detailed. 🙂 I guess I don’t want to leave any parts out. But I know that when it comes to someone else’s blog it’s easier to read if it’s shorter. I think I’ll try to start cutting mine back.

  30. I prefer to write and read shorter posts, and I try not to included more than three different “subjects” per post. It’s hard, because I want to include so many different things in one day.

As for longer posts, if it all pertains to one subject, then I enjoy reading it, as long as there are photos (which totally makes me sound like a kid)!

I always read through all of your posts though – they have a good flow to them, regardless of long or short.

  31. oooh I did a spin class this morning – such a great way to start the day!!!!

  32. My favorite cereal is Post’s Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds. Delish, I can never have just one bowl. I like all your posts, long or short. You always have such great things to share.

  33. Holly says:

So glad you made it home safely!! 🙂 I’m lovin’ that cereal!! It looks delicious.

  34. […] for all the feedback on the new posting schedule. I find that I like doing shorter posts as well. I think I will keep it up. It makes things […]

  35. Two times a day is twice as great! 🙂
