nothing compares

Shall I serenade you all? You’re right. It may be best to leave that to Sinead O’Connor.

You know what I think? Nothing compares to old 80s and 90s music. I never get sick of listening to it. Give the video a play. I dare you to try not to sing along.

Today’s lunch held a few treasures which, in my mind, nothing (or at least very little) can compare to. I met a friend for lunch at a cute little cafe in one of those quaint “downtown” areas.

I would rather wander the streets and find myself in a kitschy place like this, than go through the hassle of reservations months in advance and valet parking for a high-end, well-known eatery any day. Nothing compares to the food or the atmosphere. Or tea with mint in it. What a perfect summer beverage!

I had such a hard time deciding what to order. Stuffed portabella caps, spinach quiches, wraps and salads galore all leaped off the page and proceeded to do a little arm-waving dance while shouting “pick me! pick me! pick me!”. Yes, that really happened. 😉

I finally opted for the Cherry Bleu Chicken Wrap with their “famous” lobster bisque on the side.

Let’s just say…nothing compares. I will allow the pictures to do the talking.

Speaking of which, nothing compares to natural sunlight for food pictures either. I want to eat that lunch all over again. Although not the way cows do it. That’s gross. So I guess I’ll play Patient Patty until I can get myself back there.

I savored this meal alongside a heavy course of catching up with a good friend. We haven’t seen each other in MONTHS, and don’t talk nearly enough, but easily slid back into our conversation like into an old pair of favorite jeans. Nothing compares to friendship like that. We lived together a few years at the end of college and just after, then took somewhat different paths. Even though we have grown into different people, our friendship still has a luster to it. It was nice give it a little spit shine today.

Something else with no comparison – a leftover piece of cake for a snack. Sometimes you just gotta!

ooh that cake is very pretty!

  2. 80s music all the way. My iPod is full of it!

  3. Mark says:

Oh good, I was wondering what the inside of the baby cake looked like!

I’m the same with eateries. “High-end” places tend to just make me feel uncomfortable. There’s nothing stranger than a waitress on minimum wage, looking down her nose at me as if I don’t deserve to be there 🙂

  4. Meg says:

I never would have picked that wrap but it sure looks yummy! I’m with ya, I totally love 80’s and 90’s music. Those were the days.

Hmm… nothing compares to a foot massage from the hubby! 🙂

    • Tina says:

Mmm that does sound nice. And the wrap was REALLY good. I almost went for a different one but something about the one I got sounded summery and perfect.

  5. homecookedem says:

Was the Mittie’s in Alpharetta? I went there last week for the first time and had their lobster bisque too!! Omg, it was amazing!!!!!!!! 🙂

    • Tina says:

That’s the one! Isn’t is AMAZING? I love little places like that. And everyone was sooo nice too. They treated M like a royal princess. Just what she needs. LOL

  6. Nothing compares to getting off work for the weekend!

But I’m going to have to claim that the best music, that will make you smile, is whatever you used to get ready to go out to in college. Even if I wouldn’t normally listen to it now? Rollin’, Don’t Wanna be a Playa No More, or Close will always make me smile…and the answer is I’m about to turn 30.

    • Tina says:

I do always go back to a happy place when I hear songs like that. Although…I think we did listen to a lot of old school 80s and stuff then too. I distinctly remember Pour Some Sugar on Me being played on repeat a few times. And I wasn’t in college when that first came out. LOL

  7. 80’s and 90’s music ALL THE WAY!! The music today doesn’t even compare (OK, now I feel old, haha). I see a Vegan special on that menu…I would of been all over that 😉

    • Tina says:

That was my 2nd choice! It was a Mexicali Wrap or something with avocado, black beans, cilantro, tomatoes, lettuce, and something else. It sounded REALLY good.

  8. Chelsea says:

Nothing compares to coming home after you have been gone a while and having your dogs greet you like you’ve been gone for years even though its only been an hour.

Nothing compares to feeling proud of yourself for achieving a goal, whether it be a great workout, or acing a test.

  9. SheFit says:

YUM! This place looks great. Always fun to meet up with friends at a great restaurant. The wrap looks amazing!

  10. Nothing compares to a good night of sleep in clean sheets, baby! Especially after not being home for a few days.
And not really a style or era, but jingles can usually make me smile. Ugh, I’m the ideal consumer.

    • Tina says:

Agreed on the good night sleep. Last night was the best sleep I’ve had in WEEKS. I feel incredible this morning.

Jingles. I get caught on them too. I STILL know all the words and lyrics to that little K9 Advantix commercial with the puppy at camp. “Hello mother, Hello father, fleas ticks mosquitos, really bother…” hahaha

  11. I love 80s music and I love that Sinead song! It honestly makes me cry usually when I hear it.

Nothing compares to spending an evening with my husband! Just laying around doing nothing, watching tv or reading, maybe talking. Relaxing with my baby is the best!

  12. That’s one of my husband’s favorite songs! haha

  13. Chemicals aside, that cake is just precious!

Nothing compares to my bed and sleeping in on a Saturday!

    • Tina says:

Ditto to that! I stayed in bed until 8 this morning and it was heaven. 8 is sleeping in when your pregnant body normally wakes you up by 5. LOL

  14. These are such beautiful photos. I want to eat them all up!

Nothing compares to… the feeling of comfort from a hug.

  15. Holly says:

I LOVE 80’s music! Maybe I’m biased because I’m an 80’s baby, but I don’t think anything beats it. Whitney Houston (pre-drugs) and the Dirty Dancing Soundtrack were frequent players in our house.

Hmmm….nothing compares to the smell of a little baby. 🙂 I was holding my (almost 5 month old!) nephew last night, and just smelling him. I love it when I come home and my clothes smell like him!

  16. That place looks so good. Love they have a “vegan” wrap! Nothing compares to my husband. Seriously, the man is my hero! I LOVE 80s too! Ya gotta love it! Have a great weekend Tina!

    • Tina says:

You too, Sarena! And apparently Em has been there before too and likes it. Perhaps there should be another Atlanta blogger meet up. 😉 A couple of the ladies who work there would even be prepared since they were asking me all sorts of questions on why I was taking pics of my food. LOL

  17. i love 90’s music! grunge, hip hop, pop, all of it 🙂

nothing compares to Lindt Chili Chocolate. i know, so cliche to say chocolate, but it doesn’t make it any less true 🙂

  18. I LOVE the combination of dried cranberries and walnuts – that wrap is giving me so many good lunch ideas!!
90’s music always makes me laugh because I remember loving it as a teenager… sometimes I put it on when I’m cleaning the house. It makes me smile and helps to make doing chores that much more bearable!

  19. I LOVE 90’s music. My mom and I always joke about how 90’s music to me is going to be like how oldies/motown music is to her!

  20. I’m going to have that song in my head all day now – thank you 😉 I love to find places like that to eat at. I prefer them actually.

  21. Love that song! And you’re right with the 80’s/90’s music. I went through a serious phase in highschool/early college with that genre, and have a million cds of late 80’s and early 90’s tunes… soooo good!

  22. Michelle says:

LOL – love the “not the way cows do it” comment. I <3 wraps and old friends that you never really feel out of touch with no matter how long it's been since you've seen them.

  23. Nothing compares to the feeling of a shower after a really long run or a hard workout!

  24. Katie H. says:

    I love 80s music!

I kind of garnered this from the previous post but just wanted to make sure- did you let your family members know the sex of the baby by “hiding” the color inside of the cake? If so that is SUCH a cute idea and I think I’m going to steal it when my time comes 🙂

  25. Dorry says:

Nothing compares to…seeing someone you love when you’ve been away from them.

  26. Shannon says:

I love the announcement cake. I’ve always thought it was such such a fun way to announce the gender to family and friends. And left over cake is never a bad thing either 🙂

  27. Becky says:

I love lunches with old friends. I have a good friend like that…in fact, we’re getting together tonight! I’m really looking forward to it. 🙂

  28. So your pictures are pretty much like art- I love it!

Nothing compares to… being back at school (I’m a nerd haha)
And I also love listening to early 90s music. In fact, I have a Backstreet Boys CD in my car right now
