such an evil man

Be sure to check out this morning’s 30 Days post if you haven’t already! I would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions on perseverance.

**************************************

Okay, maybe he isn’t really evil per se…but I sure don’t like him! The dentist. *shudder*

And if he had worn a mask like that I would have spit in his face. Good thing I found joy with some snuggle time yesterday morning because joy didn’t have a shot in youknowwhere yesterday afternoon. I had to go to the dentist. Not just for a cleaning either…but for a crown.

Shaping a tooth for a dental crown.

Do you SEE what they had to do to my tooth?? It was all a conspiracy too. I had to have a crown because a 12 year old filling was not holding up in that tooth and the location made it unlikely for a new one to last either. I think they just have it out for me and my pocketbook to have made me go through a filling first and now this madness. On the bright side, I learned some lessons while in that dental chair. I know you are just dying for me to share my enlightenment.

1. You can now buy a little breathalizer test to inform you of your stanky breath!

The dental chair had a TV overhead and Rachel Ray was on for my viewing pleasure. I got to see an entire 10 minutes of women tasting different foods and drinks, then blowing into a little contraption to determine the kissable factor of their breath. Seems useful, no?

Sooo…I had a great time tonight.” –man leans in for kiss- -woman shrieks and pulls handy dandy breath test from purse- “Ohhh, sorry no kissing for me tonight. I had the garlic.” Seriously, people?!?

2. It’s dang hard keeping your mouth open for an eternity entire episode of Rachel Ray. Although that could relate to the thrashing of trying to escape said evil dentist and said show with its mundane topics.

3. I have really small teeth. And drool a lot. Why thank you kind dental assistant for bringing this to my attention and making me even more comfortable in this situation.

4. There seriously needs to be a sarcasm font for bloggers.

5. Chewing on one side of your mouth is HARD.In two weeks I will receive my permanent crown. Which means, until then I have to be very mindful to chew on only one side of mouth and not have anything sticky, chewy, or hard. It’s been less than 24 hours and I already have problems. They must be smoking something if they think I won’t have my pumpkins. At least this will make me savor them? Find joy, right?! 😉

6.  I can now finally relate to my dog. Where drills and machinery act as my torture devices, hers comes in a 25 lb package yielding pom poms.

  • Doctor or dentist?
  • What talk show can you not stand? I used to like Rachel Ray…now not so much. I don’t really do talk shows though. I think Ellen is the only one I can watch through. And perhaps Oprah.
  • What’s the most insane product you’ve seen advertised? It’s a toss up between that breath test and the Shake Weight for me.

Ugh I hate the dentist. I avoided going for 6 years. I finally found one in NYC that I love. She even does my cleaning because she knows how bad my anxiety is. She’s seriously the best.

The only talk show I can bear is Ellen. The rest are so annoying. I agree about Rachael Ray, I enjoyed her at first but not she just grates on my nerves.

    • Tina says:

I actually like the dentist I go to now much better than my old one but they still just bother me so much. I’m not a fan of needles either and having to watch one go into my mouth just freaks me.

  2. Eeek crowns are the worst! The worst part is when they gag you with the molding itself. Blech! That’s cool they had a TV for you to watch, though!

  3. Cynthia says:

I hate the dentist so I would take the doctor every time. I think the talk show I absolutely hate is the Tyra Banks show. Ugh. Awful. The Maury Povich show comes in at a close second though.

  4. Camille says:

I don’t mind the doctor or the dentist, but I do actually like the doctor (most of the time).
As far as what talk show can you not stand, I would definitely say Wendy Williams. I have only ever seen it once at the gym, but god was it horrible!

    • Tina says:

I don’t think Ive ever seen that. Likely a good thing. LOL

And I don’t mind the doctor at all. I guess when you go through pregnancies and birth none of it seems scary anymore.

  5. LindseyAnn says:

We had horrible luck with our family dentist back home–all 5 of us are now searching for a new one. Once I find one/get dental coverage, I think I’m headed down Root Canal Avenue 🙁 That being said, I’d rather go to a dentist than a doctor. I have a severe fear of clinics, doctors’ offices, and hospitals. I swear, I closely resemble a dog on its way to the vet when there is a doctor involved.

I CANNOT stand The View. I absolutely cannot handle that show, even in small amounts.

  6. I can’t stand going to the dentist! I really dislike the sound of the cleaning thing….*shudder*

  7. i went to the dentist on monday & i feel your pain. it’s always so awkward when they ask you a million questions, but you can’t really answer properly!

    • Tina says:

I know!!! They’re like looking down your throat and mumbling to each other and then they ask you something when you have drool sliding down your cheek. I bet they all have great self esteem looking at faces like that all day. LOL

  8. Marg says:

You guys are reminding me how bad I need to go to the dentist!

I agree abou the Shake Weight!!!

  9. I’m not a big fan of the dentist at all! So, the dental assistant told you that you drool a lot? Really? Wow!

I love Ellen, I don’t get to watch it much, but it’s my favorite talk show I think!

    • Tina says:

I forget how she worded it. Somehow it had to do with my mouth being numb because she had to have the sucker really handy for me. Then a giggle. I think she was trying to make a joke and calm me down…but still.

  10. I like the doctor way more than the dentist. Although I’m sure if I had to have major surgery I’d change my mind. I like my doctor though, and my dentist is nice — I just hate that drilling noise and I hate the sucking noise when my mouth literally becomes a pool of spit (I drool a lot too!)

I don’t watch many talk shows, they are too annoying. I like RR’s cooking show, but not her talk show. Oprah, Maury, Tyra, all of them are just so boring. I’ll watch for 10-15 minutes max. Dr. Phil and The Doctors are ok, depending on what the topic is.

I’m with you on the Shake Weight!

  11. I’m much rather go to the doctor–that includes the lady doc! I cant stand the dentist. its just uncomfortable.

I cant stand Dr Phil. Boring.

  12. I’m really liking the sarcasm sign. Sarcasm definitly needs its own font!

  13. Jen says:

I had to have a root canal last month and then a new crown, chewing on one side of your mouth is hard and it sucks! I had to do it for almost a month!!! My mouth feels so much better now though, even though my bank account is crying 🙁

  14. Sava says:

I hate doctors AND dentists, but will avoid a doctor visit at almost all costs. I go to the dentist only because I don’t want all my teeth to fall out D:

    Most ridiculous advertised item:
The wearable blanket. Also known as a snuggie.
My friend has one, and I tested it out, and it is just a backwards robe. If anything, I would spend my money on a cozy front-ways robe.

  15. Kat says:

I despise the doctor, but thats probably because I have never had a good relationship with any. Doctors to me have always contradicted themseleves, and seem to ONLY care about the money they are getting from me, and not my health. Numerous times doctors have mistreated my family. One told my gma her hip pain was arthritis. It ended up being cancer and it had already spread to her brain by the time they found it. She died from it. A few months ago my aunt had a stroke. The doctor sent her home and told her to take advil. She is now paralyzed on her right side. Ugh doctors…

    • Tina says:

Oh my goodness!! Yea I wouldn’t be too fond of doctors after going through all that either. I’m so sorry your family had to face such things. Wow.

  16. Shake Weight for sure! I found one in my MIL’s house. Then I made a pervy movement w/ it and now she’s hidden it from me. Haha! Did you see the one for dudes? Good for laughs.

I love Ellen but I work so I don’t watch it very often. And Oprah. I’ll always love her. I used to love Drive Ins, Diners and Dives but Guy gets on my nerves now. 🙁

    • Tina says:

Hehehee. I always think pervy things when I see that weight. Peter & I always joked that the shake weight would be better for men since it works the muscles they use…to ya know. When we saw the one for men we couldn’t stop laughing.

  17. Does The Soup count as a talk show? Yes, Ellen is great and sometimes Oprah can be good.

I’m a much bigger fan of the Doctor, except when she breaks out the wooden tongue thing. Gag. Mostly I enjoy the doctor so I can ask her a million healthy questions at once – I think she might dislike me because of this.

  18. homecookedem says:

Oh there definitely needs to be a sarasm font for bloggers!! Love that idea!! 🙂

I actually love going to the dentist, but I’ve been very lucky and have only had one cavity, so going to the dentist has always been pretty painless for me.

I love Oprah and The View. I used to love RR, but she is just annoying now.

  19. Haha, the shake weight gets me every time. You know a man made that thing. It is horrible! I can’t stand RR, Dr. Phil or just about any of them really. I like Ellen, but not really the show…I just like her. Um, can I say neither on the doctor or the dentist. The doctor because I just don’t trust them and the dentist because they always cost so much money no matter what!

  20. Shannon says:

I hate going to the dentist and am very overdue for an appointment. I usually fear the doctor too, but now I like getting baby updates when I go 🙂

I love Oprah and Ellen, but I can’t stand any talk show where there is drama and yelling. I like the fun ones!

  21. Mellissa says:

I have a panic attack just thinking about the dentist, they have to give me the gas just to do a cleaning! I usually end up leaving with hives and tears. Pretty scary!

  22. I totally agree about the sarcasm font. Sometimes I wonder if people can tell when I’m making a joke or not… which is often. :p

And Rachel Ray… yeah… she should probably stick to cooking. Enough said.

  23. I just went to the dentist last week! Shudder.
I hate it when they scrrrrrrrape your teeth. The sound is nails on a chalkboard to me and my teeth always hurt after!
However, when I had my first cavity this spring, my dentist was fantastic. He talked me through everything and even played Lady Gaga videos for me on the TV! He’s a great guy.
Oh, and the worst part about going to the dentist last week was the fact that construction was being done on the building, so I had to listen to a real-life drill/jackhammer thing in addition to having a cleaning. AHHHH!

  24. Lee says:

I hate going to the dentist. I have TMJ (a jaw problem) and going to the dentist always aggravates it.

BTW – Jason was just reading over my shoulder as I typed this and asked, “are you going to the dentist?” haha.
