30 days of self love – gifts of the body 4

Posted: September 25, 2010 at 12:06 pm

Welcome to the last installment of the Gifts of the Body series. See the previous posts below:

Remember, each week we take a day to thank our bodies for what they do for us. Our bodies provide us the miracle of life and the ability to enjoy it. We need to thank them for their strength and what they provide, instead of wishing they looked different or did more. I’ll start us off!

My Immune System

[source]

I thank my immune system and everything that works together to keep me healthy. I am lucky that I do not get sick too often, despite being exposed to things from Makenzie and her little kid friends. My body works well to keep me functioning at my best. Thank you body, for taking care of me.

My Hair

IMGP7180

I used to always complain about my hair. It was too thin, too straight, got stringy, and didn’t hold shape. Now, I thank my hair for being simple to style and the perfect length to pull back in a ponytail. I thank my hair for complementing my features well and having a nice natural color. And for looking decent upon first awaking…like above. 😀

My Ears

IMGP7181

I thank my ears for allowing me to hear so many beautiful sounds – Makenzie’s giggles, Peter’s loving and encouraging words, music, the sound of the ocean, the crunching of fall leaves, the preacher’s words and the songs of worship each Sunday.

What are you thankful for from your body today? Try to think of something different! 😀

  1. I need to recognize and thank my immune system more often! I am a chronic nail biter and I wear contacts, so my grubby hands are always in my mouth and eyes. Gross. I’m very fortunate to have a resilient immune system!
Today I am thankful for my brain. I came up with the perfect comforting breakfast that really hit the spot. I’ve had some terrible breakfast flops lately that have left me unsatisfied and not ready to dive in to the day.
Today I am thankful for my legs. They will carry me all over town today, from picking up my CSA box to meeting a friend for shopping.
Today I am thankful for my biceps. I just noticed them, and they’re definitely there! All of a sudden. Who knows where they came from 😉

  2. Ameena says:

I am super thankful for my eyes because despite complaining about having to wear contacts (which drive me nuts every second) I’m glad I can see at all.

  3. My finer nails: I like that I can deck them out and add color to my life

My arms which are slowly gaining muscle that I can feel as I push out more and more pushups

My bones for holding me up even when my spirit seems to be to heavy to deal with

  4. Love my eyes…don’t know what I’d do without them 🙂

    Have a great weekend, Tina!

  5. Shayna says:

My liver! Thanks for not going on strike after all that abuse. I’m really trying to feel you less chemicals 🙂

I love my skin, I’m thankful that it’s vampire-like paleness calls for loads of sunscreen. I will *not* look like a handbag in 40 years 🙂

I love my fingers, thanks for typing, playing the piano, getting rid of pesky itches, holding onto my husband’s hand and letting me rub down my fur-baby.

  6. I thank my neck for supporting my head and keeping it up high even when I feel verrrry low.

I thank my hands and my face for expressing my feelings and words to others.

I thank my eyelashes for all the butterfly kisses they give =]

    • Tina says:

Aww, butterfly kisses! 🙂 That makes me want to thank my nose for the “nosy nose” M and I do. “Nosy nose” is basically an eskimo kiss.

  7. Paige says:

I am thankful for my legs for carrying me through tough runs and miles of running and walking.
I am thankful for my reproductive system for knowing what to do after almost 10 years on birth control…

Hope the wedding went well! I’m sure your toast is awesome 🙂

  8. Meg says:

I am so thankful for my smile, it makes me happy and others too 🙂

  9. My smile 🙂 Sometimes I get compliments on it!

  10. Lori Lynn says:

Well, I’m thankful for my curly hair– it wasn’t until I started growing my hair out, until I discovered that it wasn’t just wave! My hair is so much easier to do when I can make it curly.

  11. homecookedem says:

Awwwwwww, the part about your ears is so sweet! 🙂

I’m thankful for my eyesight. I’ve always had really good vision and have never needed glasses. I often take that for granted. I’m thankful that I can see all of the beauty in the world!!

  12. Ela says:

    Hey Tina,

Wow, that tricky subject again. But I managed…

Thanks again – I hope you enjoy!
I’m traveling the next two days and really hope to post but am not sure if I’ll get the chance.
I’ll make sure and comment when I do a post.
    love
    Ela

  13. Julie says:

For my eyes…to see the beauty of my hike in the mountains today.
For my ears…to listen to all the Fall leaves falling (and making my crazy imagination think there were bears surrounding me).
For my legs…because they ran FAST for me today as I escaped all those imaginary bears in the forest.

  14. Muscles, ears, hands, teeth, eyes, lacrimal system, stomach, skin and heart. That’s what I’ve loved so far.

Shoulders. I really like them right now, because I can see muscle definition. They are strong enough to bear the heavy weight of the sorrow that likes to keep me company, can withstand the burden of worry for my loved ones as they travel out of my reach, can carry the responsibility of helping those less fortunate, and are always there for someone I care about to lean upon.

All the stuff inside for working pretty much like it is supposed to. I am continually thankful for my health.

My appearance. I didn’t grow up a girly girl. I didn’t like dresses. My hair was short as a kid. I slouched because I felt cumbersome; I bit my nails, was taller than I’d like, thought (think) my breasts were too large. I tried to hide within myself. It wasn’t really until my 40’s when I realized I didn’t look too bad. Amazing what you can discover when you start taking notice of your appearance; getting stylish haircuts, wearing a bit of makeup, discovering self tanning lotion, manicures. So, here I am, middle aged, and for the first time in my life feeling kind of pretty. Go figure!

Thank you Tina, for allowing me to learn to focus on and give a little love to my body this month!

  15. Today I am thankful that my body is being patient with me while I try another eating style (semi-grain free) for a little while. 🙂

    Jenn

    • Tina says:

I hope it goes well for you. It’s such trial and error to see what way of eating really makes us feel the best both physically and mentally.

  16. Lance says:

    Hey Pony Tail Girl!

Love the pictures – your hair really does look great first thing in the morning! Mine: kind of all over the place!!

I’m thankful for my feet – they help me to move and get places – and when I run – they take every step and keep on truckin’…

  17. This is weird, but I am going to thank the tough skin we all have on our elbows. I can’t tell you how many times I whacked my arm on something, and although it still hurts, life would be much worse without you, you dry tough patch of skin!

    🙂

  18. Lisa says:

    Beautiful post.

  19. I am thankful for my drive to get things done: I can clean quickly, do the dishes quickly (but well!), put dinner together, go grocery shopping, fold laundry, talk on the phone, etc. I love crossing things off of my to-do list and my inner drive to do that keeps me focused and productive!

  25. Xandria says:

I am thankful for my back, for being strong and helping me lift heavy things, and not being strained too much. And for also looking good.
I am thankful for my freckles for making me look cute and not allowing my body to get melanoma.
I am thankful for my hair for being soft and easy to take care of. It make not have the most volume, but even if it did, I wouldn’t really put a ton of effort into making it look “fabulous”. 😉

It’s kind of funny. I become a certified personal trainer and the first workouts I turn to this week come from someone else. The book came in for me at the library last week and, after flipping through it, I couldn’t wait to give the circuits a go. Making The Cut includes a lot of […]
