a simple uplifting

Posted: December 6, 2010 at 9:28 pm

After the anger and then the empty feeling from unloading it all, I needed some positive messages. I love searching through quotes for messages that hit the right nerve and can put a smile on my face. I wanted to share some of the ones I found today with all of you…plus a hug. Thank you, yet again, for your kindness!

You have to take the good with the bad.
Smile with the sad.
Love what you got & remember what you had.
Always forgive but never forget.
Learn from your mistakes but never regret.
People change. Things go wrong.
Just remember: life goes on.

Every day may not be good, but there's something good in every day.  ~Unknown

"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. "
~ Dr. Seuss

“How you think about a problem is more important than the problem itself. So always think positively.”
- NORMAN VINCENT PEALE

“The best way you can cheer yourself up is to cheer someone else up”
- MARK TWAIN

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. – Matthew 11:28-29

  1. I seriously live my life in quotes. I put a new quote on my blog everyday! It is so difficult to choose a favorite, but my senior quote for high school is probably my long time favorite.

“Shoot for the moon, but even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.”

So glad that you are feeling better! You are such an amazing person and so uplifting! I love it when you comment on my blog! It brightens my day. 🙂

  2. Molly says:

I put quotes on my blog every post…it makes my thoughts feel more sane. I dont think I could just choose one favorite, I literally have thousands…but one I can relate to right now goes something like this:

“There’s always going to be bad stuff out there. But here’s the amazing thing – light trumps darkness, every time. You stick a candle into the dark, but you can’t stick the dark into the light.”

    – Change of Heart

    or

“I thought about one of my favorite Sufi poems, which says that God long ago drew a circle in the sand exactly around the spot where you are standing right now. I was never not coming here. This was never not going to happen.”- Elizabeth Gilbert

  3. Jennifer Rahn says:

I’m on the same darn rollercoaster, and I want OFF!

Hubby and I had a huge fight last night when I broke down in tears after he asked if I’d “dumped oil” on his serving of roasted potatoes. Oh, the agony of an eight-month pregnant woman who spends her days planning and budgeting innovative and healthy meals, grocery shopping with an energetic toddler, slaving away in the kitchen, and who’s met with a toddler who spits the food out and a husband who seemingly constantly (every night this past week at least!) criticizes said meals – I’ll tell ya, that’s one angry and oppressed Momma! 🙂

It seems insignificant now, but I was fuming last night.

Today was a good day. Tomorrow will probably be awful.

    Let’s meet our boys, Tina.

  4. I like this one!:
It’s snowing still,” said Eeyore gloomily. “So it is.” “And freezing.” “Is it?” “Yes,” said Eeyore. “However,” he said, brightening up a little, “we haven’t had an earthquake lately.” ~A.A. Milne

    hope it made you smile!

  5. I do the same thing when I am feeling down or just in a rotten mood. Some quotes are just so perfectly worded, it describes exactly what you’re thinking. Thanks for posting these—I needed these big time. I especially love the how you think about a problem one, it’s putting perspective into place on a huge issue I am having right now.

One of my fave quotes ever is :Keep your face to the sun and you will never see the shadows.

  6. Lauren says:

“To meditate, only you must smile. Smile with face, smile with mind, and good energy will come to you and clean away dirty energy.” I read Eat Pray Love over the summer and love it! This is one of my favorite quotes from it. It obviously makes me smile 🙂

  7. kate says:

Im glad youre feeling more positive. We all have those days. And although I dont have a quote to share Im sending uplifting vibes your way.

  8. Melodie says:

These are all great quotes and verses! I am going to copy and paste them into my journal 🙂 You always post such great quotes!

One of my favorite verses is Psalm 56:8 “You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.”

The fact that the Lord collects all of our tears into a bottle seems so sweet and caring. It is something I needed to be reminded of tonight 🙂

Glad you are feeling a bit better 🙂

  9. Anna says:

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and some absurdities crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

“The Sovereign Lord is my strength; He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, He enables me to go on the heights.” – Habakkuk 3:19

  10. “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor heavenly rulers, nor things that are present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”-Romans 8:38-39

This verse always lifts me up when I am down the farthest for whatever reason. And given my recent mood it is the one I am clinging to.

  11. Astrid says:

Tina, I love how to share all sides of yourself with us. You are multidimensional, and you choose to accept that and present that. Put simply, you are amazing.

  12. This, too, shall pass.

I love that Dolly quote. I just love Dolly, really. How about some quotes from Steel Magnolias?

Honey, there’s so much static electricity in this room, I pick up everything but boys and money!

  13. I’m glad you are feeling a little better 🙂 Thanks for sharing the quotes, I especially like the 2nd one. Life goes on…..not matter what happens, life goes on. Love it!

  14. I’m a big quote person, too.

I hope today is a better one. Keep your chin up! You are wonderful!

  15. i LOVE quotes….I will say that I have a quote book that I used to bring with me everywhre! it was my hobby. I just collected them looked for them and compiled them!!! I love a good quote 🙂

  16. These are wonderful quotes. Thanks for sharing. I know they uplift you… and the rest of us too.

  17. Tatianna says:

“The best way you can cheer yourself up is to cheer someone else up” <– SO true! Sometimes when I am feeling sad I will offer to give my mom a back rub or something. It always makes me feel better 🙂

  18. My all-time favorite quote is from Titanic. People always roll their eyes when I say it, but it really does exemplify the way in which I want to live my life:

“I figure life’s a gift and I don’t intend on wasting it. You don’t know what hand you’re gonna get dealt next. You learn to take life as it comes at you… to make each day count.”

I also love this one, from Harry Potter: “One can never underestimate the power of obsessive love.” (About Harry’s mother’s love for him)

  19. Love these quotes. So glad you’re feeling a little better. Hugs.

  20. Jess says:

As you know, some of my best quotes and words of inspiration have come from none other than Joel Osteen himself. He somehow ALWAYS does it for me at just the right time…here’s one from him for you today: It’s from his message about “stop looking at your problems, and start looking at your God” something I know you do on a regular basis. His message today was just so spot-on I had to share it:

“Sometimes the best thing we can do is talk to ourselves and speak scripture over our lives. When you’re tempted to be in a bad mood, go look in the mirror and say, “Listen here, self. You need to cheer up. Get your joy back, get your peace back. I’m not going to live this day defeated.” You have to stay on the offensive. Don’t wait until you’ve been down for three days before you decide to do something about it. The moment you feel that discouragement trying to come on you, rise up and say, “No, I’m not going there.” You wake up in the morning and feel the blahs, you say, “Nope, that’s not for me. This is going to be a good day. It’s the day the Lord has made.”

  21. I love all of these! I have a huge smile on my face right now!

  22. Thank you for that bit of scripture. So happy I’ve stumbled upon your blog!

  23. What wonderful, uplifting quotes! This was the perfect way to start my day! Thanks Tina!

  24. my favorite ever is Ghandi’s “Be the change you want to see in the world.” I love that you can apply it to any situation, and ‘the world’ can mean any number of things or situations 🙂

  25. Julie says:

I came across two good ones yesterday – one from my bible:
And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it. Colossians 3:14

    …and one from another blog:
It’s only when we truly know and understand that we have a limited time on earth– and that we have no way of knowing when our time is up — that we will begin to live each day to the fullest, as if it was the only one we had. – Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

  26. Camille says:

    My absolute favorite quote is:

“It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default.” -JK Rowling

She is a very, very wise woman!

  27. Abbie says:

REALLY needed to hear/read/see these. Bummed about a law school final I took last night. I could have done great, could have done poorly, but worrying is not going to do anything for the grade.

Thanks! Hang on Tina, only a little bit longer til you get to hold that precious baby!

  28. I had a horrible weekend and reading this really helped. Thank you. I just went through pages and pages of quotes and the only one that stood out to me was by Sophocles, “One word frees us of all the weight and pain in life. That word is love.”

  29. ashleigh says:

I love quotes! It used to be a HUGE hobby of mine long before I got into blogging. I would peruse websites and copy down all of these quotes. I actually have 100’s of pages of them saved on my desktop and still read from time to time.

One quote I love that I have taped to my computer screen at work is “There is beauty in your presence. Show who you are”
