What My Day Looks Like

Posted: January 19, 2011 at 9:04 pm

I always find it interesting to see how others go about their day to day. I did a post like this awhile back, but as you can imagine, things are a bit different these days. What do my days look like now? Well, a little like this…

Somewhere around 6 am – Braedon wakes up for his last feeding of the night. By this point, I have reached 6-8 hours total sleep and feel well rested. So thankful for a good sleeper!

6:30ish am – Stay awake after baby B eats to pre-write my blog post for the day. Then, catch up on emails and other things waiting for M to wake up.

7:30ish am – Hear Makenzie get up. Bring her downstairs and feed us both breakfast. Oats, peanut butter, and fruit are typically on the menu.

8:00 am – Go wake up Braedon. Situate Makenzie with books to read. Feed the little man his mommy milk breakfast.

8:40 am – Drag everyone upstairs to get dressed and ready for the day.

9:00-10:30 am – Braedon wants to sleep. Makenzie & I chill together. We like to feed Teddy, dance, and play in Hippo tents with books.

10:30 am – Baby B hungry again. Feed him. And read some blogs while nursing. When sitting there with a kiddo sucking away for 30 minutes you have to have distraction sometimes. M usually gets her one TV show during this time too.

More playing follows. Then, lunch. Today featured a pbj sandwich and vanilla Chobani yogurt. We clearly needed to go grocery shopping.

12:30 pm – Get Makenzie settled for her nap. Oh, nap time how I love you. Especially since after B eats again their naptimes overlap. Mommy time!

1 to 3 pm – Pre-write evening blog post, relax some, get things done. Enjoy!!!!

The remainder of the day cycles much the same. Feeding, playing, etc. If an errand needs to happen we fit it in between feedings. Like today – we did in fact make it to the grocery store!!

7 pm – Time for dinner. Tonight my friend Ann brought us over a meal of a brunswick stew with brown rice.

7:30 pm – Time to get the kiddos in bed. Makenzie gets a bath, prayers, and a Bible story. Braedon gets the boob, a swaddle blanket, and the bassinet. Although he did have his first bath the other night.

8ish to 10ish pm – Come downstairs and chill with the husband. Tonight will involve watching Parenthood, talking, and chocolate chip cookies (courtesy of Ann as well).

10ish pmHit the hay…just to wake up around 2 to feed baby B, fall back asleep, and repeat the whole thing yet another day. It may not be the most adventurous life, but I sure love our little days. 🙂

  2. laura says:

Looks like you have the greatest job in the world – being a MOM!
Best part of my day is my ‘me time’ – yoga/baking/walking/or just chillin. 🙂

  3. I think you are superwoman! I am so amazed at how well you are juggling blogging and your precious little family. I aspire to be like you one day!

  4. Brittany says:

What a great day 🙂 You are such a great mom! I love “mommy milk breakfast” !!!

  5. Evan Thomas says:

    Your day sounds exhausting.
My favorite part of the day is when I wake up(usually around 9) and check emails on my iphone so my inbox is empty when I turn on the computer.

  6. Wow does your little man go from bedtime all the way to 2am with out nursing again? Lucky Mama!

Best part of my day right now is waking up in the morning and remembering I am now the Mommy of 2 little ones. It is still very surreal.

  7. G says:

Is it weird that this post made me really really excited to be a mom?
My favourite picture in this post is the one of you holding baby B after bathtime… he is absolutely adorable!!!

  8. I’m tired reading that! I wake up sporadically throughout the night, out of bed by 6:15, at work at 7 where I eat breakfast (oatmeal), try to take a break around 11:30 to hit the weights at home or a quick run, back to work until 4, then 2nd workout most days or errands, home, clean up, dinner around 6:30, finish my blog, read blogs, bed by 8-ish to read then asleep around 9:30.

  9. I like 6:00pm…dinner time with my boys!

  10. Caree says:

I envy that you have a wonderful sleeper on your hands!!! How nice is that routine!! Yay!!

  11. My favorite part of the day is laying in bed for an extra 30 minutes after the alarm goes off just to relax, listen to birds, think, pray, just get centered for the day.

  12. Wow, that sounds like a busy day! I can barely get myself to the grocery store, let alone myself and 2 babies. 🙂
Things look great in your house. I hope everything stays wonderful!

  13. Melie says:

Your days are full!! My favorite part of the day is when I wake up in the morning and catch up on my blogs and generally fool on the internet while having breakfast and a bucket of coffee. If only I didn’t have to go to work directly afterwards…

  14. Kristina says:

Yay for a good sleeper! You are one busy mom! You look amazing:) And your children are gorgeous-but how could they not be?!

  15. I’m so happy for you that B is a good sleeper!!!! =) That is fantastic news! and I’m so flipping proud of you for breastfeeding and talking about it on your awesome blog! =) The breast feeding counselors I always complained that not enough women openly spoke about it — but i’ve noticed in blog land it’s celebrated so much and that makes me ridiculously happy! <3 so go you!!!

    xoxo

  16. Sarah says:

Awww I think being a Mommy is a wonderful job 🙂 Hopefully it’s one job I’ll have in the future! Congrats on making it to the grocery store.

  17. Lee says:

I love Braedon’s head of hair! So cute.

My favorite part of the day is probably when I get home and read blogs. I mean hang out with my husband! 🙂

  18. You make it look so easy…but I know it’s not 🙂 Mommy of the Year!

  19. Karen says:

My favorite part of a typical day is picking the girls up from school and seeing their excitement when they see me for the first time! The come running over to me, so excited and happy to see me! The joy on their face makes me so happy!!!

  20. Dorry says:

It’s fun to have this insight into the life of a mom with toddler and now a newborn. It sounds like y’all have a great routine and baby B seems to be an angel! I’m sure there are moments…

I LOVE the hours from 8-11. Those are my most productive hours. Breakfast, workout, tea, work.

  21. Kelly says:

My favorite part of the day is breakfast and when I get in bed and snuggle with my husband and my dog. You look like such a happy mommy! Won’t it be cool one day for your kids to look back on what you posted about them when there were first born and growing up? To me, that is the very coolest things about blogs: documenting your life in such an interesting way.

  22. Wow your little man is doing great! Thanks for the little peek into your day. It was fun. 🙂

  23. Sarah R says:

I always love these posts too. It’s great to see how you’re doing everything with two little ones now! My favorite part of my day is breakfast (usually oats) and the morning news, however cuddling with the hubby before bed is a close second.

  24. Yah for cookies!

Your little Baby B is so freaking cute. Love the fuzzy head. Reminds me of my babies…

  25. That sounds like a GREAT day! Do you ever nap at all? I have a feeling when M and B are sleeping, I would be too!

  26. Looks like a great routine! Glad your little M likes oats… way to start em healthy!

And that 8-10 PM time slot… GREAT! I don’t have any kids, but that’s all I get most days, as well!

  27. Oh my baby B has so much hair! I love it 🙂

My favorite time of night is right now. This is the time after I go to the gym, catch up on tv and blogs, it’s very relaxing.

  28. Cynthia says:

I love that you make time at the end of the day to actually talk and spend time with your husband. I think a lot of parents forget that part. Lately, my husband and I have been having some “reconnect” time after dinner that does NOT involve the television. I realized recently that we were watching too much T.V. and it was affecting our ability to connect emotionally. We are slowly trying to change that. 🙂

  29. lindsay says:

You have the hardest yet most rewarding job and you do it SO WELL!
    😉

  30. Em says:

That is amazing! We have NO routine… I guess that is what happens with the first… still trying to figure this whole thing out!! 😉

  31. aw, that sounds like a super fun day to me 🙂 and i know you were worried about getting to spend quality time with M but it sounds like you girls are having a blast! i love coming home, eating dinner, and then snuggling with nate for the night. best part of the day, hands down 🙂

  32. Awww, so fun! I love hearing other mom’s schedules They’re all so different.

  33. I would love to know how you get through the grocery store with M and B!! Whew, that’s got to be exhausting. Heck, I get exhausted at the grocery store and I go alone! 🙂

  34. Meg says:

I loved reading about your day. It’s so neat coming along the ride with how you are handling being a new mommy for the second time. I’m storing away tons of good advice for when it’s my turn! It’s amazing how much you accomplish with everything going on. You’re awesome!

  35. I love when I get home from work and just get to hang out at home spending time with my two girls! It looks like you’ve got it all under control 🙂

  36. Natalie says:

I’m really enjoying hearing all of the baby stuff! I already feel more prepared for the future…thank you!

  37. Camille says:

You know, that sounds hectic, but all in all, it sounds like a pretty good day 🙂

  38. Kat says:

Fact: I’ve always wondered what a Day-In-The-Life looks like for mothers with newborns – thank you so much for sharing this!

SO glad your little son is sleeping!

  39. Anna says:

That is really nice that their afternoon nap times overlap. My current favorite part of my days is either the quiet time I get commuting for student teaching or coming back at the end of the day and spending time with my brother and his family.

  40. Caroline says:

Reading posts like this make me so excited to be a mom one day! A long day, but I’m sure its so worth it!

  41. Your day sounds fun but very tiring!! I can’t believe you went grocery shopping a week after having a baby! You’re super woman! My two favorite parts of my day are my morning run and then my chill time with my husband in the evening! 🙂

  42. Sounds like you have it down to a science. My favorite part of the day is breakfast…and when I workout. It’s my me time. 🙂

  43. This is perhaps the cutest blog post I have read. What a lovely life!

  44. so basically you sit around and eat bon-bon’s and watch soap operas all day, right

    KIDDING!

dear lord lady, i wish you strength. and thx for putting a nursing pic up…I love to see that 🙂

  45. I really enjoyed this post. Your ability to juggle two young (adorable!) kids, while continuing to blog twice/day is quite admirable. M and Baby B are lucky to call you Mom!

I think the part of my day that I look forward to most is the evenings. I almost always take a bath, and then relax and unwind by reading blogs while sipping at a mug of hot chocolate (I drink it every night). 🙂

  46. That is a jam-packed day full of awesome!! You go mommy!

  47. Stephanie says:

OHHHH….I want to stay at home tooo! 🙂

Truly…I know how beautiful that business really is though, right?

    M

  48. your day sounds just perfect! 🙂 my favorite time of my day is my reading time before bed. i like to read a real live (well, not live) book. no reading from a computer or my iphone. it’s so relaxing and it gets me ready to fall asleep!

  49. Nice that you are still able to get some sleep! I love the mornings (if I’m not stressed) and around 10 when I can stop working and relax.
