Get Me Out Of Here!
Posted: January 23, 2011 at 7:11 pmOver the past couple of weeks we have been quite the homebodies. I guess we should expect as much with a newborn kiddo. We spend our days indoors away from the cold and then at night hang out on the couch with a movie. Not to say that’s bad; I really liked Social Network and our relaxing evening last night.
This morning when we woke up, however, I wanted to get out.
We hadn’t planned on it for another week or two, but we ended up heading to church today. It was just the place I wanted to go. Not only do we get the inspirational message, but we also get social time since many of our good friends are from church. I loved making it out of the house to visit a place I truly love and people I love as well.
I did quickly learn something new though. Getting two kids ready and out the door takes forever. We had two hours, which I figured was more than enough. Ha! We had two adults to get showered and ready. Two kids to dress. Four mouths to feed. Bags to pack up. Two hours felt more like twenty minutes.
I began feeling slightly overwhelmed by the time we got out the door. For some reason the larger worries of life don’t really phase me, but comparatively minor details can send me into freak-out mode.I don’t 100% know why. My best guess would be seeking control.
I must admit that it all makes me a bit anxious. Peter goes back to work tomorrow. We may have a nice little routine going, and I certainly don’t have any pressing time commitments to get out the door for, but I sure will miss having an extra pair of hands when I really need them. I must remind myself that things will get taken care of and I will figure it out. Also, as time goes on things will get smoother and easier. Things haven’t been too bad yet!
Question of the Evening – What types of things overwhelm you?

My little ones are 2 and almost 4, so I know exactly how you feel! My advise is to do as much as you can the night before. I’ll have the diaper bags packed, sippy cups in the fridge, outfits laid out, etc. It still takes us a long time to get out the door, but I’m not running around like crazy! I really want a third baby soon, but I have to wait until my oldest is in school. How would I ever do it with 3 little ones!
I don’t know how people do it with 3 really close in age. My mother in law had four kids 4 and under…yikes! I know I couldn’t handle it.
Aww, I love how it looks like B is waving to the camera!! Too cute!
I think overwhelmed has been my middle name and/or primary emotion since the new year started. This whole moving and adjusting to a city literally–LITERALLY–120 times the size of the one I just lived in is doing a number to my head. I’m slowly adjusting, but I still have those moments where I just close the blinds, dive under the blankets, and wonder if I made the wrong call by coming here.
Good luck with today. I’m sure it will be fine, and you three will find your groove without Peter there soon! 🙂
Work deadlines, too many functions after work–being busy! I just think “there’s no way I am going to get this done!” And I know in the end it always gets done! So I don’t know why I waste time worrying about it.
That pic is adorable!! For some reason I get super stressed when plans change or we have a schedule that we don’t stick to. For example, yesterday I wanted to be home by 7pm, but we ended up taking an extra hour and a half and not getting home until 8:30. Is it really that big of a deal? No. Did I let it put me into a funk? Yes. Then after like 10 minutes of crankiness I said to myself, “what are you doing? Let it go!” So then I was able to relax and just enjoy myself. It’s hard sometimes though!
You’ll get the hang of it, girlie! I used to get so overwhelmed getting the boys ready too. It took forever and of course, right when it was time to leave, Baby Boy would want to nurse. Going to the grocery store w/ two little ones especially overwhelmed me. I still break out into sweats trying to get them both ready for the day!
I’ve opted to grocery shop on Sun afternoons now, when the husband can watch them. I am too afraid to venture grocery shopping with two by myself!
Baby B looks like he’s waving! 😀
I get so overwhelmed by so much…mostly large projects and doctors’ appointments. My mind always defeats me before I start a project, and before I even arrive at the doctor’s office, my mind swims with all the things that could possibly be wrong with me—even at a checkup!
I have a tendency to take on too many tasks at once and then when it comes down to crunch time, I freak out and think I can’t get everything done. I’ve learned that I just have to walk away and take a few minutes to just breathe and then it all usually comes together. Other than that, I freak out all the time about things that are 100% out of my control! I really need to get better about praying about that sort of stuff!
So glad you made it to church so soon! And that you were surrounded by people who love you. What a blessing! 🙂
