The Silliest Regrets You’ve Ever Heard

Posted: February 10, 2011 at 8:44 pm

I don’t regret my ridiculous eight year on and off again relationship with the ex. They taught me exactly what I wanted and needed in a man. I don’t regret the years of emotional struggle with my relationship with my dad. They helped me believe in forgiveness and its powerful healing. I don’t regret going through depression and extreme binge eating battles. They led me down a path I believe God planned so I can now share those experiences with others. I don’t regret getting married only a year after meeting Peter and then having kids so quickly. I could not feel more blessed in my life right now.

[Disclaimer: Please put on your goofy hats for the remainder of this post.]

[Disclaimer #2: I hope you are happier than that dude while reading FFF. Yikes!]

I don’t regret any of the above, but I learned today I do in fact have regrets. These regrets don’t make me a better person. They do nothing but make me that person who sighs heavily. And who likes the dramatic heavy sigher? Nobody. That’s who. So I simply HAVE to get these off my chest. Without further ado:

I REGRET…

Buying a glass table for our dinette.

glass table

Will that table every be clean again?!?! Maybe in 18+ years when we’re empty nesters? On that note…I also regret taking the plastic off the dinette’s chairs.

dirty chair

Peter, go ahead and say it. “I told you so”.

I regret giving M the one stuffed animal that we have no clue where it came from and/or how to find another.

teddy

Precious Teddy takes a beating every day getting dragged alongside miss M. If something happens to that bear, we are screwed. Royally screwed.

I regret not getting Lasik when we had two full incomes.

glasses tina

Glasses are annoying to wear with kids because somehow oatmeal will end up on them. I can’t even begin to explain.

And based on the above picture I regret not getting my eyebrows done recently. Note to self: schedule wax with next hair appointment.

I regret grabbing this book quickly off the shelf while at the library for M.

bug book

Now she wants me to read it to her over and over and over. And it just creeps me out. I think I feel a bug crawling on me every time I look at it.

I regret whatever I said that caused M’s crazy intense fear over…

fuzz ball

fuzz. FUZZ!!! We had a serious meltdown today over that there little fuzz ball. You can’t make this stuff up folks.

And mostly? Mostly today I regret fear letting me hold myself back from running for so long. [you can lose the goofy hat here] I certainly see myself falling in love. After all, running seems to be the cardio version of why I love weight lifting – It’s personal. It’s a challenge where you can focus on your own progress. It’s motivational to feel yourself strengthening. I sincerely hope this doesn’t turn into a short fling I end up regretting though. Nah. I’ve already had my share of those. 😉

Question of the Evening – What’s a silly “regret” you have? Keep it light, friends. This is all a post in the name of fun!

I regret not starting a weight lifting program sooner. I told myself I didn’t like it, that I was a cardio junkie and it was a waste of time. So so wrong. It’s changed my body and my life in a lot of ways. And if I’d started it sooner I probably would have lost weight a little faster.

  2. I regret NOT buying ice cream at the grocery store earlier this week. Oh, how I’m craving it now – darnit! 🙂

  3. Hehe cute and fun post indeed! I regret not taking a mask with me when I teach/go to school with my student (I teach an autistic boy) and he rips one right.in front.of.me. 😛 *Note: At least once a week.

  4. That was a great post and note to self not to ever buy a glass table. Good advice!
I’ve had silly regrets on buying food items that stock my pantry that I may never use.

  5. I regret mailing all the cookies I made recently to my husband.
    I really want a cookie.

  6. I had a major cupcake regret last week – I messed up the icing by adding the water first and then not having any extra powdered sugar to thicken it up. No fear though…it was still a tasty regret to have 🙂

  7. Maybe you should mention fuzz balls when you read that bug book to M, that’ll get her to stop requesting you read it. 😉 I’m evil…

  8. Jolene says:

I regret that I haven’t showered after Group Kick tonight…and may regret not showering until the morning. 😉

  9. Heather I. says:

I regret not booking a cruise for my husband’s vacay month in April. Now the prices are sky high! It’s looking like we’ll be staycationing this time…

  10. Michelle says:

I regret not eating MORE french fries when I was pregnant. I ate a lot, but not nearly enough. Hee.

Yay for loving running! Those are definitely reasons I love it too.

  11. I regret that it took me two weeks to cave in to my Jimmy John’s craving! …I finally gave in today though and it was 100% worth it!

Love the fuzzball freak out – I bet I would have freaked over something like that when I was little too – just because I’m dramatic *sometimes*!

  12. I regret not catching up with season 3 of Gossip Girl before the start of season 4, because now I’m totally out of the loop.

You want silly? I got silly.

  13. Gosh this list could go on and on! I regret letting the doctor’s office give Jay stickers when he was little after a shot. The boys is deathly afraid of them still! I also regret not getting Lasik, now I don’t know when I ever will.

  14. I regret not making a double batch of coconut curry hummus, because now I’m out! 😀

  15. I regret not buying milk at the store last week – tonight we ran out!

  16. Priyanka says:

I regret wearing my new boots in the cold today, I have blisters on my feet. Not fun!

  17. I regret telling the Husband the wrong food to get the dog. Now we have a gassy boy on our hands. Not fun at all.

  18. lindsay says:

your last regret is awesome! Run woman run, and embrace it!

  19. I regret not running because I thought “I hated it” and realizing later I loved it.

I regret that I stopped going to the weight room because “I didn’t have time.”

  20. Haha..too cute!

I regret not getting Lasik *earlier*..I just got it 3 weeks ago!

I regret not throwing some caution to the wind and doing something crazy like back pack around Europe.

  21. Lauren says:

I regret not buying the German chocolate cupcake the other day. I went back to look for it today, but they didn’t have any left!

  22. I regret not discovering karaoke sooner in life….

  23. Sarah says:

I regret not buying more sweet potatoes and Ezekiel bread recently. I want some of both, and I’m out!

  24. I regret using a frozen bag of cranberries to ice my leg today. The bag started to leak as the cranberries defrosted and now I have a lovely red streak running down my leg. 😉

  25. I currently regret not buying enough Greek yogurt to get me through the week. Ugh!

  26. Karen says:

I regret not taking the remote from my husband….he picks the oddest TV shows to watch!!

  27. Helen says:

I regret not getting a boob job when I could afford it! Two babies and breastfeeding later….nothing left!!!

Then again even the boob job probably wouldn’t have survived…lol 🙂

  28. i regret not finding your blog earlier! you are awesome 🙂

  29. Hmmm…this is lame but I regret not cleaning my bathTUB yet! I keep putting it off, putting it off. It’s grossing me out but I still haven’t done it :/

  30. I totally regret not leash training my dogs…OMG they are terrors! Good thing I love them!

  31. Emily says:

I love this post! It’s great. I regret not getting into running sooner too. I never thought I could do it. I’m glad you like it!

  32. Coco says:

Oh, that looks a lot like my son’s Teddy! We still have him, even after a mean neighbor boy dismembered him and threw him in a gutter–my husb completed a heroic rescue mission. We actually bought an identical second bear, but since we didn’t alternate them (or whatever) you never would know they were made of the same material.

Right now I regret the awesome TM workout I did this morning b/c I seem to have aggravated whatever muscle I have in my butt!

  33. Oh I have loads of regrets but they’re pretty small. One thing I regret was not learning about how food works with the body sooner. I really did some damage by eating badly, some of it permanent, like acid reflux.

  34. I regret buying a khaki colored dress that totally washes me out. Now not only do I need to find shoes to match, I need a tan.

  35. Elaine says:

I regret not making brownies tonight. I thought about them all day… and still am I guess! 🙂

  36. to the dual income part.. we are back with dual incomes (after a few yrs just on one) but i regret not traveling more. We (sort of) now have the money but traveling with small kids is….hard!

    love this post 🙂

  37. I regret not researching BC enough when i first started it… now i’ve been on for about 6 years and am hearing all of these stories about moodswings/depression and masking thyroid problems… I think i’m going to go off of it soon!

  38. I regret not doing the one thing I always wanted to do when I was at UCLA: Run into a lecture hall of about 300 or 400 people fifteen minutes into the lecture, make a huge scene running in, panting, and yelling, “I’m here!! I’m here!!! We can start class now!!!” and then just sit down in the front and stare at the professor expectantly like nothing happened.

I seriously always wanted to do that.

  39. Mandy says:

I regret not doing the dishes before bed. Blahhhh I hate waking up to a sink full of dishes to do!

  40. I felt like I was looking at my house with the glass table. We even have the same booster chair. Oh how I loathe our glass table with white chairs. Luckily we are renting and the table is not ours so I don’t have to keep it forever. (We’re renting the house that came with the table–I’m not renting the table. :-))

I regret not working out yesterday. 🙁

  41. Hahahha the FUZZ. loved it! I regret doing deadlifts on wednesday after a very long DL hiatus. I am STILL SORE and I think it’s going to negatively impact my weekend dancing abilities bahaha 🙂

  42. Love this. My regret… not putting in an electric fence during the summer. Walking the dog each 15* morning is not as fun as I thought… 🙂

  43. I regret never watering my plants… Poor victims of my brown thumb.

  44. haha, I love your ‘silly’ regrets! I suppose I have a few, too… like regretting the blue color we chose to paint the office… I look like I work inside a Tiffany’s box… sigh…

  45. Kristina says:

Great post, as usual-the fuzz…uh oh what is the poor thing going to do about that one? haha.
I regret not putting my foot down immediately while planning this dang wedding!

  46. Jess says:

This is a riot – especially the glass table thing. That would drive me nuts too! I’m also with you on Lasik, DYING to get it and always feel like it’s not the “right” time but damn, will I be so much happier without contacts, glasses, and all the expense that comes with it. It’ll all balance out with lasik, right?? Silly regret from me? I regret painting the bedroom of our first place a blue color that transformed our room into an 8 yr old boy’s room. We tried to love it but just couldn’t do it. So I regret that 4 coats of red paint it took to cover it up buuuut LOVED the end result 🙂

  47. I regret ruining my new wool-blend cardigan that specifically said “dry clean only” but I flagrantly ignored. It’s small enough for my cat to wear it now and I didn’t get to put it on even once. :/

    • Tina says:

At least you will have a cute cat? 😉

I’m always pushing dry clean only and lay flat to dry or handwash only limits too. I think I have a dress I have worn 4 or 5 times that has never been washed bec of that stupid dry clean only tag.

  48. Cuteness. I have several regrets in my closet: Things I bought that just don’t fit right and probably never will. Should I get rid of them?? I’ve never worn them so that would be a waste of money! But I’m not wearing them because they look weird, so it’s a waste of money either way. Ahhhh, regret.

  49. OH, i also regret Hailey getting so attached to a teddy that was given to her for her first birthday. the purchaser has no idea where she bought it and since it’s two years old, well, we’re going to be royally screwed if it’s lost or damaged beyond repair. Le Sigh…

  50. Kacy says:

I love this! Completely feel ya on the eyebrow sitch. My appointment keeps getting rescheduled due to the snow and they are CRAZY! I feel like they’re going to get so big they’ll grow off my face.

I also regret being such a picky eater for so long, there are so many delicious foods I love now that I wouldn’t have touched back in the day.
