Hurtin’ & Hankerin’

Posted: March 3, 2010 at 7:35 pm

This morning started out with a serious pain in my butt. Literally. While heading out to scrape the snow and ice off my car, my clumsy self got the best of me. Me + Ice = No Good Can Come of This!

slick stuff

I slipped on some ice and fell hard on my tush, along with a bang on my elbow and arm too. Not the best way to start a day, but I didn't let it get me down. Once I got back up off the concrete of course. 😉

After regaining feeling in my arm, some breakfast, and renewed vigor, I headed off to the gym with Miss M. She played with her favorite helper while I did a quick light walk on the treadmill and hit up Group Power. This is the first time I have done the lifting class but I really liked it. It is perfect for my current situation and I was hurting in a good way in no time. 😀 I definitely plan on continuing with the class atmosphere for the time being.

After class, the hurting part of my day stopped and instead turned into some hankerings. My first one was an urge to down something post workout. Enter a green monster smoothie. I have only recently tried these and quite enjoy them. I'm behind the times I know...but I always wait to see if something really sounds appealing to me before jumping on the bandwagon. I gave in because who doesn't want to get in more veggies?

Green Monster Fuel

Plus it is very delicious and energizing. And yes, I have given some to M and she has downed every sip right along with her momma. 😀 Yay for healthy eats!

At around 12 I got a call from a dear friend that I haven't seen in awhile asking if I would like to meet up for lunch. Definitely! I have been missing this gal for awhile and you could say I was hankering to get out of the house and have some girl time. 🙂

I ordered a California Salad that had spinach, spring mix lettuce, oranges, strawberries, cranberries, pecans, blue cheese, and grilled chicken with balsamic. This salad is perfection and is my all time favorite. Coupled with girl talk = more perfection.

Party in my Mouth!

  • What are your favorite salad additions?
  • Have you tried a Green Monster? What are you favorite ways to mix one up? I used the basic banana, unsweetened vanilla almond milk, couple big handfuls of spinach, and about 1/4c greek yogurt to thicken it up.
  • What's your most embarrassing crash and burn moment? Today's pales in comparison to some of my falls. I once tripped over a snag in the carpet in front of my class and faceplanted. Doing that in a room of almost 30 highschoolers is not the most gracious moment of my life, that's for certain.

  1. mmm that salad does look like a party! i love dried cranberries and grapes! and cheese…goat, feta…you name it i’ll eat it! just not fat free feta! I had that last nigth and it did not taste anything liek reg feta!!

  2. That salad looks amazing! I want to recreate it for dinner. My favorite green monster is anything with a frozen banana – they are SO good. The texture is delish.

  3. Lindsey says:

I have tried blending veggies in my smoothie, but it tastes chunky and gross. If I had a high quality blender, I would like it a lot better! My mom has an awesome blender (a Vitamix!) and it blends up perfectly!

Regarding falls –I once walked into a brick wall while talking to someone in junior high. It was completely embarrassing and painful! LOL!

  4. Oh! I can definitely feel your pain! :/ My elbow is still sore from my computer cord crash… You may be sore later :< I do like green monsters but haven't made one in a while. I like to do almond breeze, spinach, frozen banana, frozen strawberries, ground flax seed, and choc. protein powder! Ooh, I think I need to make one of those 🙂

  5. Ouch, not a fun way to start the day! Glad it got a lot better though. I have not tried a green monster yet. I’m really behind the times LOL. Lately I’ve been enjoying roasted kabocha squash with black beans on red leaf lettuce and spinach with balsamic vinaigrette. I also love strawberries with feta.

In embarassing crashes, No one got hurt, but we needed to do a war scene for a highschool project, and dumped the teachers desk over for a bunker. We thought it was empty, but Her drawer contents went everywhere!! Major embarassment and we did not get a good grade.

Hope your bum is feeling ok!

  7. Mellissa says:

I have a non-ice related crash, I was going to sit down and my desk and my chair wheeled away and ended up on the floor. And everyone around me saw.

I like cherries, banana and mango in my green monsters 🙂

  8. Krystal says:

awww ouch! i realized this morning that i’m still timid when i run after my fall on the ice. my times have been a lot slower than usual.

hope you have no lasting bruises!

yummy salad minus the bleu cheese! i like romaine and spinach with dried cranberries, parmesan, pecans and apples. Maybe just a little italian or greek dressing but not much.

i also like romaine with feta, egg, cucumber, red pepper, chick peas and sunflower seeds with sunflower oil and vinegar.

mmmm now i want a salad!

  9. Melissa says:

    The salad looks amazing!!

I love Green Monsters!! I use a banana, skim milk, 1 scoop of whey, 1 scoop of Amazing Grass, a handful of spinach, a couple of ice cubes, a Tbsp of peanut butter… it’s delish!

  10. I hope your butt feels better soon! I fell HARD on my butt after slipping on some ice a couple years ago. It happens to the best of us!

I haven’t tried a green monster, but i’ve made my own version using chocolate amazing grass powder. it was awesome!

  11. lisaou11 says:

I sort of do a green monster–it’s banana cream pp, bunches of spinach, and frozen berries with unsweentened almond breeze! its yum!

  12. Jenn N. says:

I’ve never made a green monster. They just don’t appeal to me.

My most embarrassing moment happened at a Ben Harper music video audition. They were looking for hula hoopers and I thought since I could hula hoop I’d be a perfect candidate. I ended up getting called in for the audition and they were looking for professional hula hoopers I auditioned anyway and the casting directors were doing everything they could to not just laugh me out of the room. In the moment I wasn’t embarrassed but later I realized how ridiculous I must have looked. At least I never had to see them again and I pray that audition never ends up on youtube!

  13. Nicole says:

I’m on Team Vienna — I thought your last post was funny 🙂 I didn’t like her until Monday night. I think her and Jake are so good at defending their relationship and having an “oh well for you” attitude towards there opposition.

I love cheese and nuts on salad. I don’t need dressing if I have a rich cheese like bleu or gorgonzola!

  14. Morgan (from 02) says:

    No green monster for me.

My favorite salad additions are roasted red or yellow and orange peppers and onions! Mmmm

  15. I love blue cheese, walnuts, and pear with balsamic dressing. Yummy! You are right about the whole workout thing. It will go by quickly and I’ll be more excited to start again when the baby is born. Thanks 🙂

  16. I usually make “clean out the fridge” salads so almost anything is game!! I like Vegetarian BBQ best though 🙂

  17. 1 banana, 1 cup vanilla soymilk, 10 strawberries, 3 large kale leafs…this is my go to Green Monster!!

As far as falls…I’ve had too many!

Glad you liked Group Power. I wish you could try Body Pump! I think you’d be in love with it.

  18. kbwood says:

ahh so sorry you fell girl! falling on butts are the worst! boo!
    fav salad topping- nutritional yeast+hummus!

  19. Danielle says:

Ahh I hate slipping on the ice. Is winter over yet??

I love green monsters- especially with vanilla protein powder!

  20. Vee says:

Shame about the fall, hope you did not hurt yourself too much and that you’re OK.
I have not tried Green Monster but want to very soon, I enjoy adding pumpkin seeds to my salads for the crunchiness.
Oh, I’ve had so many falls… the last one I remember quite vividly is whilst roller blading down the stairs and trying to pull off a neat little jump at the end but somehow got distracted (I always get distracted, why oh why? :-)) and very neatly falling on my bum instead. Luckily nothing else but my pride got hurt. 🙂

  21. morriskr says:

Just go ahead and admit it! =)

  22. I totally bit it on some black ice in a Walmart parking lot.

I have also fallen while running so many times I have lost count, but one of my best was when I lived in SD and bit it on the beach. I think I did a somersault. I was sure everyone was pointing and laughing at me.
