Toys
Posted: February 19, 2011 at 9:42 pmWe celebrated a friend of Makenzie’s 2nd birthday party today. I think it was one of the best birthday parties we have been to.The weather was perfect for another day outdoors.
Which worked fabulous with the party because they had so many cool toys set up for the kids. Makenzie and the birthday girl had fun hopping around together in a little jumper.
They had other inflatables too, which Braedon had a fun time with. While asleep.
And we can’t forget the mini rollercoaster!
Where were toys like this at my birthday parties growing up?! I think piñatas were about as exciting as we got.
In between all the playing, I nabbed a snack plate to share with Makenzie.
I basically ate all the veggies, dip, and rye bread. I could have eaten a plate full of the spinach dip. So delicious! I think spinach dip is my favorite savory party food. I say favorite savory because, well, anything sweet always wins. Like cupcakes.
I don’t think the kids liked them at all though.
Not one bit, right? 😉
Thank goodness we did have cake and cupcakes at least. We may not have had roller coasters, but by golly we had cake!
I remember my favorite birthday party had My Little Pony cupcakes and decorations. I was obsessed with My Little Pony.
Other favorite toys during my young years…
So basic, yet so fun. I obviously spent my childhood all in the 80s. It’s so weird that some of these have come back into popularity too. One thing I hope never comes back though?
My sister loved those things when I was in high school. Annoying as all get out!
Question of the Evening – What toys did you love growing up?
POPPLES!!!!!!
you are awesome.
I was all about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – I had ALL their toys! My sister loved Teddy Ruxpin – I almost forgot about him.
Furbies!! Hhahaa. I haven’t seen or thought about one of those in YEARS. You are right – – it was so annoying and so hard to turn off!
Ahhh! I had a Teddy Ruxpin when I was a baby! 😀
Furbies are awful. Whoever invented them had serious issues. And they are creepy!
I loved barbies, unicorns and cabbage patch babies. Sounds like
a great party. So glad you enjoyed the day Tina!
I’ve never heard of a popple. I liked Cabbage Patch Kids. And my record player. And Strawberry Shortcake (and all her lovely smelling buddies).
I had Barney come to my 4th birthday party, and I remember my younger sister who was 2 was so scared and cried the whole time.
I loved American Girl Dolls and those electronic pet toys that came on keychains in elementary school.
TEDDY RUXPIN!!! I want him back. Looks like a fun afternoon. 🙂
Oh my gosh Furbees were so so creepy. We had then when we were little. We loved Cabbage Patch dolls, barbies, Polly Pocket, and My Little Pony!
OMG, popples! I totally forgot about those. I was a rainbow bright/strawberry shortcake girl!
OMG – my girls are absolutely obsessed with My Little Ponies right now!!! We watch the TV show and play ponies all the time!!
When I was a kid I loved Rainbow Bright and Barbies. I still love to play Barbies with my girls : )
Oh, I LOVED My Little Ponies too! I had a gazillion of them! I also had the castle. I used to cover it up at night with a little blanket so it wouldn’t get dirty. LOL!
what a great party!
“I could have eaten a plate full of the spinach dip.”—ME TOO!!! I love it!! Our neighbor in Aruba makes the BEST spinach dip and every year around Xmas I usually o.d. on it. And i love it 🙂
Oh dear god. Furbys haunt my childhood. Luckily my parents had the good sense never to let me get one. That was about as high tech as toys got when I was growing up! Wait, scratch that, I had a Giga Pet. It was awesome!
OMG, Giga Pets! I forgot about those… I had one or two. 🙂
My Little Ponies!! We had several. Six, maybe? Maybe more?
What else did we have? Hmm… Ohhhh, Beanie Babies! We still have ours. I used to make up stories for them, and I had my favorites–a couple of them I was determined to bring with me pretty much everywhere. Haha! 🙂
I remember I was obsessed with TV shows like Sailor Moon when I was in elementary school… They need to bring back the good Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network shows… =\
OMG! Popples! Did you ever see the movies?! haha Memories!
I loved Cabbage Patch Kids… and Lite Brite was always a good time too 🙂
i loved tamagotchies!
I had nearly ALL the ponies! Those were my favorites. I even had the seahorses and we would play with them in the creek in my backyard!
that mini roller coaster is SO CUTE
the kids are cute 🙂
TEDDY RUXPIN! True story. One time my Teddy was doing his thing talking, and the bottom half of his jaw fell off. I watched in horror as he kept talking with just the top part of his mouth moving before I threw him across the room. 🙂
Popples!! Aww, I loved my popple.
I loved my gloworm too – when I was little as a nightlight, and then by late elementary school I would take it to bed and then use it as a flashlight to keep reading my books.
When I was little we had bike parties – kids brought their bikes over (bike friendly town) and we would decorate all of them with streamers & then bike over to the park (a block away) and have cake and just run around and play.
My little pony and Strawberry Shortcake were my favorites. I love that they are still popular!
Ohmigosh! They have mini rollercoasters out?!?! Wow! Hailey would have LOVED that this year .. tho she might now…she’s three.
I agree. The toys out now are sooo not we had when we were growing up. I also grew up in the 80’s. LOVED Rainbow bright but i obsessed more over her and strawberry shortcake..tho Holly Hobby was a short obsession later also.
Remember Alfie?! He came out this year. I bought it for Hailey for Christmas. It’s awesome!!!
I used to love Popples and Rainbow Brite too. I also loved my Cabbage Patch Kids.
We cant wait to bring M to the cabbage patch baby world place. 🙂
Those toys bring back some memories! I think my mom still has my Popples sleeping bag – LOL!
Remember Cricket? I loved her. And those dolls whose hair would grow… can’t remember the name…
I loved Popples and my pillow person. My daughter has those things of mine now while she is growing up. 🙂
Pillow people!! Forgot about them!
🙂 love it all. miss you guys!
Oh my gosh, I had a HUGE My Little Pony collection. Remember the ones that were soft with some fuzzy coating over the plastic? I do. Also, I loved Rainbo Brite, Strawberry Shortcake, Care Bears and when I was really young, The Get Along Gang. I was also a child of the 80’s!
we just went to a bday party for our 5 year old cousins yesterday and the theme was my little pony! total flashback!
Teddy Ruxpin:):) I loved that thing!!
At my 6th b-day party, my parents had a “flower picking” contest where it was a competition to pick the most flowers aka dandelions lol My parents got all the weeds picked and all the little girls got flowers:) it was the perfect win-win scenario!
AHH i loved furbies!!! i had like 4 of them and they all made my day.. i still rmbr the time when the batteries broke and my furbie started like hyperventilating and i freaked!
I love my little pony too! My FAVORITE though was the care bears. They. were. awesome. I also loved barbies, of course! Also when i was in Middle school American Girls dolls were just coming out. So fun!
POPPLES! I loved them! I would stack up other toys and bowl with them when I was little! Haha!
I was also obsessed with my Lite Brite, My LIttle Pony, and My Littlest Petshop!
Ugh, Furbees are creeptastic! I never understood the fascination with them!
Hehe! All of those toys were my favs! I was also a big lego person!
Another fav of mine is spinach dip too!! OOOO!! I could eat a whole tub of that stuff!! With pita chips…..or ritz! yuuum!
What a cute party!
I was into Barbies. Ugh. I had a million of them!
Oh my, Popples! I completely forgot about those things! Carebears and Pound Puppies were 2 of my favorites!
Those cupcakes look amazing! It looked like a perfect day to be outside in gorgeous weather!
Happy birthday to your little girl!
Ahh! Furbies! Haha! I forgot about those. They were so obnoxious! My sister and I each had one and they would talk to each other. Weird stuff. I definitely loved My Little Pony, though. Oh, and barbies too!
Pretty much all of these toys were in my toy box! Strawberry shortcake was my obsession for quite some time.
Aww, happy birthday M! My favorite toys growing up were Play Mobiles. Those things left a lot of room for imagination and I had plenty of to go around!
I had a My Little pony, Teddy Ruxpin and the red view finder thing–can’t remember what it’s called. I had a Furby but I think my dad enjoyed it more than me. Remember Nano babies? I loved “Little People” and anything Sesame Street.
Happy Birthday Macenzie! You threw a great looking party. Did you make the cupcakes too?
I still have my Popples! Pound puppies, Cabbage Patch Kids (remember the cereal too?), and My little Pony were all up there too.
Oh, it was a friend of M’s birthday. They did a great job setting it up. I just enjoyed the fun with little M. 🙂
Oh my goodness, I absolutely LOVED My Little Ponies and Teddy Ruxpin!!!
