Black & White

Posted: March 1, 2011 at 11:50 am

First up – check out my guest post on Jen @ Taste Life’s blog! It’s all about my first venture into intuitive eating. Also, please forgive the “Not Found” post going through readers. I accidentally published my list of ideas and not a real post. Oops!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’m glad I don’t view life in black & white when it comes to making decisions. Otherwise, I may have never come across my current breakfast obsession to go with my second obsession of coconut & raisins in oats. The other morning as I went to pull my nut butter for my oats out of the cabinet I faced the following dilemma:
 peanut butters
White Chocolate Wonderful or Dark Chocolate Dreams??? You know the dire situation of this predicament, my friends. And who’s to say you can’t have both? I say, you can.
 black and white oats
I also say its delicious! And you should. You really, really should. Although, WCW will still earn the “save the best for last” title.
 last bite
That right there makes my mornings. Although not quite as heavenly as some of these would make my mornings. I’m still waiting on you to come over, Jess!
You know what else I love that doesn’t have to be black & white? Blogging. As I was writing my post for yesterday I felt stifled trying to organize it all into one post. So, I broke it into two. Same amount of blogging time – less stress – more my style. To keep blogging pressure-free, I will continue with the schedule that worked well for me last week by pre-writing posts only during nap-time. Whether I get one or two, I can stay true to my writing style and true to myself with remembering why I blog. Certainly not black & white, but definitely a win-win.
Question of the Day – How long does it take you to write a blog post? For me, an hour + for a longer one because I think too much! A short, more concise one…30 minutes on average.
  1. I think the chocolate pb in my house would be gone in 1 day flat! It depends on the type of blog post that I write, but usually 30 minutes or so. I would love to make them longer sometimes but I feel like I have nothing to say!
  2. Stephanie says:
    I am going to start doing something a little different on my blog. Writing has ALWAYS been my passion but I never realized how much I was seeking a creative outlet for other areas of interest such as photography and photo editing. My posts take more time than I assume I’ll allow for very much longer. I’m going to start working on some posts gearing towards my creative side and other posts where I just type the words that need to be spoken and heard (typed and read aloud actually though!). I do all my blogging at night after the kids are asleep and it’s been the best gift I’ve given myself since I no longer have cable. 🙂
  3. I am such a huge fan of those PB flavors! Glad you enjoyed both of them. Delish!
  4. I think 30 minutes is average for me… sometimes more. I tend to be a farily quick typer/writer in general (academics included).
    I still need to try that white chocolate PB flavor… haven’t been able to find it in stores, and I don’t fancy ordering online.
    Congrats on the guest post! I’d love to start doing that more often!
  5. The photo editing takes the longest for me. But I love it 🙂
  6. Jess says:
    I SERIOUSLY need to buy this stuff! Where do you get it from??
  7. I would say from start to finish it’s about an hour or so…sometimes more sometimes less. If I’m stressing though I just go by the seat of my pants. No reason to freak out!
  8. I really should put more time into my blog posts. The ones I like take any where from 30-45 minutes to write. Usually I just type it up and send it out there. I’m working on honing my skills though. 😀
  9. Sarah R says:
    I’m pretty quick and to the point with my blog posts. I have a draft in my back log for a book review that I have been putting off for weeks, just because it was taking longer to write that I had the time for. I should really get that done…
  10. It depends on the post, but 15-45 minutes. 15 for the quicker ones, and 45 for the more in-depth, thought out ones. I have to say that posting more frequently has made me a much more concise writer and fast poster though!
    • Tina says:
      Agreed! Plus the shorter posts open up more options for fun things like the ABCs you did. I’m going to be doing a post like that this week.
  11. depends on what I’m writing but usually between 30-120 minutes!
  12. It depends. I think some of my posts can take 10 minutes and others can take more than an hour!
  13. Coconut & Raisins are good for me too!
    It takes me about a half hour on average too I think. Sometimes more, sometimes less. But I usually get distracted and don’t finish during one shot, hehe.
  14. I’m like Lisa- it really depends on the subject and my train of thought that day. :p Although I will say I do find it helps me to start it at one point and then go back and finish it later on. I can imagine that would be rough for people who post several times a day, but it works for me!
  15. Angela says:
    Oooh wow now that is a major decision! I haven’t actually tried either of the chocolate PB&Co’s because I love the cinnamon raisin swirl so much! Blog posts…. it depends. Sometimes the ones I think will take a long time take me wayyyy longer than I anticipate – but others go really quickly (meaning like around 30 minutes!)
  16. Heather says:
    Dark chocolate dreams is the bomb! That stuff doesn’t last long in our house, that’s for sure. 🙂
    It takes me anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to blog. Depends on my mojo. Ha!
  17. It really depends on the blog post. I’ve tried to go down to once a day but sometimes they get really lengthy, so maybe I should do twice a day if need be. Sometimes they take an hour if I’m doing a little research, sometimes just a few minutes if its just random things going through my head.
    • Tina says:
      That’s how I felt with the one post. It would get too long and be all over the place for me. Then I would spend so much time editing it into something easier to read.
  18. Becca says:
    Sometimes it takes me only a few minutes, especially for the super-short posts. Others, like that Love post that was rambly and long, I wrote over a period of several days. I’d say on average, probably 30-60 minutes, depdning on length of post and how distracted I get. Hah!
    You should watch me write emails. Oh my gosh, do I take forever to write emails! Part of it is I get distracted, but part of it is that I tend to over-think and try to think about how my emails are going to sound to the other person. I add and delete so.much. when writing out emails. =\
  19. I’ve put so much stuff in my oatmeal before, I don’t know why I even bothered putting oats in it 🙂 Looks delish!
  20. I like the way you think ~ I would have had both too!!
    My blog posts take abou 30 – 45 mins to write but it’s photographing the food that takes forever!! I am very ‘green’ and have a hard time getting a few good shots that I am happy to post. I think I need to try to take a more ‘pressure-free’ approach because I tend to edit and then edit some more 🙂
  21. Unless I have a planned, important topic, it usually only takes me about 30 minutes. However, if it’s on something like exercise, a work out, or nutrition, it definitely takes longer.
  22. Anyone who limits him/herself to one kind of nut butter is no friend of mine. (Not really, but I would like them to go over to the dark side of nut butters galore). It’s all about the mixture of flavors and textures in each and every bite!
  23. Melie says:
    Yes, I think half an hour is a pretty accurate estimate if I know what I am writing about. The deciding what to write part is what takes a long time…
  24. it takes me a really long time to write posts too. i would say it takes me an average of 60 minutes to write my post each day. i’ve definitely had some recently that take much less than than that though – but i’d had some that take waaay more than that too!
  25. The time it takes to write a post is really dependent upon the topic! Sometimes it takes 20 minutes, other times I’m writing for an hour! Yum on that nut butter!
  26. LOVE LOVE LOVE Dark Chocolate Dreams PB. I was actually JUST talking to a co-worker about this during our lunch time walk.
    Ive never tried coconut and raisins in my oats. gonna have to try that!!
    Blog posting for me..about 45 minutes to an hour +
  27. Ela says:
    Thanks for this: great reminder not to sweat the rules and details!
    My whole blog is intentionally about getting away from black-and-white addiction (that’s what ulterior harmony’s supposed to mean) and I so often forget.
    I don’t post every day, so often there’s a lot to put into a post. Plus the photos take a long time to resize and upload, so I often multitask while preparing a blog post, but I’d say it takes at least a couple hours.
    love
    Ela
  28. That is a perfect combination for oats! I am with you on the time it takes. The photos are the longest part for sure.
  29. Dorry says:
    My blog posts vary – I’ve definitely gotten faster at writing a post, but with photos, links, etc, some can take longer. I try to keep them a reasonable length (and split into 2 posts sometimes) because I know that when I’m reading blogs, I sometimes skip posts that are too wordy or long because I just don’t have time! I wish I did. 🙂
    • Tina says:
      Exactly how I feel. And all my FAVE blogs have shorter one topic posts. Likely bec thats my own writing preference.
  30. Typically an hour to write a blog post…sometimes I get ideas and just make a draft and work on them over several days, whatever my schedule allows!
  31. you’re so right. those cookie dough stuffed cinnamon rolls look HEAVENLY, and I think I’ll dream of Jessica as my personal baker forever. 🙂
  32. Ahhhh i LOOOVE Peanut Butter & Co… their dark chocolate dreams is my all time fav! I also love their Cinnamon raisen swirl.. never tried the white choclate, though!
    Oh, and 1 blog post typically takes me an hour to an hour and a half… but maybe it’s because i’m new to blogging? Sometimes it takes a while for me to find my voice… i write best at night, though.
  33. Those peanut butters look fantastic. Usually it takes me 30 min-1hr depending on how many photos need editing! Of course, that does not take into account the actual cooking or restaurant eating that I do to provide content for posts!
  34. I am just not a peanut butter gal. I know! I agree – 30 – an hour depending on pictures. I try to pre-write too when I have time – I enjoy doing this!
  35. Allie says:
    I’m a huge fan of pb&co PB… the more & diff. pb, the better! 😉 Glad you are blogging how YOU want to ! Have a great day 😀
  36. Rach says:
    I love that you are making time to blog the way you want to. It’s so good that you are making it work for you! 🙂
  37. Mine take about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on how much I’m writing and how many photographs I’m using. I figured out that I MUCH prefer to write 3-4 quality blog posts in a week, as opposed to when I was posting twice a day, but sometimes not really writing about anything at all!
    I still haven’t tried WCW nut butter…I need to!
  38. I know how that feels! Sometimes blogging can seem overwhelming, especially if you have a lot of information you want to include. Mine usually takes about 30-45 minutes…longer if I’m watching TV on the side. I want to try those PB’s so badly!
  39. jobo says:
    For me, it depends on the topic I am writing about. If It’s something I have a ton on my mind on, it flies out in 10 minutes. Other times, if it’s something that comes to me as I write, 30 mins or so. And chocolate dreams sounds so tasty btw!
  40. I’m on my way!! 🙂
  41. I’d say my average is about an hour. That’s total time (photo editing+writing). I can’t decide when my favorite time to do it is–I think first thing in the morning before anyone else is up. Sometimes I do it during nap time, but I feel there are so many things I want to get done during that precious time I don’t want to spend 1/2 of it blogging (even though I do love blogging). My least favorite time is at night after the little one goes to bed. I’d rather spend that time with my hubby! But sometimes it just works out that way. Not sure why, but I always seem to ramble on in your comment section! 🙂
  42. I’m such a freak about grammar and spelling so I usually read over my posts 234324 times before publishing. I also feel like I have A LOT that I want to say, but don’t want to just ramble without forming a cohesive and genuine overall theme. Therefore, posts usually take me up to an hour ha
  43. I’d say it takes me about 30-60 minutes depending on the subject matter and amount of photos, but I’ve been known to throw one up in 15 lately because I’ve been so busy! 😀
  44. Annie says:
    I made your black bean casserole last night and it was a huge hit! I added in 1/2 a red bell pepper for some more color. I loved how easy it was to throw together. Thanks for sharing it.
    Also, my blog entries typically take 30-45 minutes, depending on how much trouble pictures are giving me.
