If It Involves Cake, I’m Happy!

In case you missed this week’s series, check them out here:

I loved this weekend! It had the perfect amount of productiveness, fun, and relaxation. Saturday morning started with my workout that I shared over the weekend. Then, I headed out for groceries and to get my eyebrows waxed. I needed some eyebrow grooming and now I finally feel like a woman again. Funny aside – the guy who waxed my eyebrows said I have a Scottish accent. Ummm…no. Sorry, dude.

After getting things done Saturday during the day, we had a fun afternoon ahead. Our good friends’ little girl turned one!

A kid’s birthday party may not sound like a good time to many of you, but I love these little get togethers we have.

A) Get to hang out with so many of our friends all at once.

B) All the kids keep each other entertained.

C) Good food is always involved.

 partysnackplate partybeer

I had a snack plate of chips with some corn dip, 7 layer dip, and a veggie bar. X2 because I had to go back for seconds. Plus, a Belgian Shock Top beer. It was a party after all.

D) Birthdays mean cake.

My friend Angie always has a co-worker make cakes for her special events. They are heavenly! This one was a chocolate amaretto cake. As good as it sounds…and looks.

Makenzie made a new best friend during the cake cutting. Grandma “D” (my friend’s mom) served M her own small piece. Enter sugar rush.

See? Kiddo birthday parties are a great time! It was the highlight of our Saturday. After all, Saturday night all we did was eat some pizza and watch the movie Life As We Know It.

Cute. Predictable. Peter fell asleep. You know you wish you had my life. 😉

Question of the Day – Eyebrows - Wax? Tweeze? Threading? Au natural?

  1. I prefer to get them waxed but tend to tweeze them in between. They always look so great after they are waxed I am always worried about what the end result will be lile when I tweeze. I had them threaded once but the ladies with strings in their hands and mouth semi creeped me out!!!

  2. Jennifer says:

Love the static pic. She is so adorable!

  3. I usually go for waxing with some tweezing touch ups in between! Looks like you had a wonderful weekend – I love weekends when you are busy with your norm ~ gym, groceries, errands mixed with a little bit of family & friend fun. What a gorgeous birthday cake!

  4. oh my goodness, YUM!!! My title for this blog would be “if it involves 7-layer dip, I’m in!”

I must have some 7 layer dip today. I’ll use being pregnant as an excuse. YUM!

PS- Love M’s sugar rush- haha- too cute!

  5. Wax. Never done the threading…. Sounds like a good day to me. I like Shock Top with an orange – but Blue Moon is still better 😉

  6. Katie H says:

Aw, it looks like you guys had so much fun. The pics of M are so cute and hysterical.

Eyebrows- tweeze all the way. It isn’t as precise as waxing but it’s a lot more convenient! Which reminds me, I need to do that later- my brows are OOC!

  7. That cake is so cute. And I LOVE Shock Top 😉

  8. Threading! I used to be a wax girl, but then a friend convinced me to try threading. It’s a lot cheaper (usually $7+tip for eyebrows.) I’ll never get my brows waxed again.

    • Tina says:

I don’t even know where to find places that do threading around here. I would have assumed it was more expensive too. Learn something new every day!

      • Not sure what part of atl you are — but there’s a good place on N Druid (behind Greatland Target) called Hair Images. Looks like a hole-in-the-wall, but they do a great job. I “started” there, but have moved on to a place 2 minutes from my house (Stockbridge.) There are a couple of places in Buckhead, but can’t remember their names off the top of my head.

  9. That cake is adorable!!! Yum.

  10. Tweezing! I don’t think I could handle waiting long enough to go get them waxed. I usually pluck a few here & there every day! Otherwise I’d look like Bert & Ernie with bushy brows!

  11. Tweeze but I want to try threading them! I get too scared though 😉

  12. Erica says:

awww! What a fun party. The cake is totally gorgeous and I always enjoy 7 layer dip- yum!! I tweeze my own eyebrows. I actually worked at a skin care salon when I was in high school and they tried to wax my brows…..apparently my skin + hot wax do not mix. I was a red puff ball for quite some time!

  13. I use a tweezer for my eyebrows — but it is really for stray hairs — it isn’t really to shape them. I like them more natural looking instead of plucked down to nothing.

I love kid’s parties — and that cake looks fantastic!

  14. AmyLauren says:

I get mine waxed, but I try to pluck in between so that I don’t have to get them waxed as often. Now that I wear contacts instead of glasses, I really have to keep up with them!

The pictures from the birthday party are great too, it sounds like everyone had an awesome time!

  15. I’ve been threading my eyebrows for over 2 years and I will never get them done any other way. I feel that they are able to get a really nice and precise shape with threading. I tweeze inbetween to maintain them for a little while longer.

  16. I get them waxed about twice a year, pluck the rest of the time. I have major eyebrows, lucky me, but it took years before I got them under control.

Love the picture of M up close and crazy!

  17. Awww, little kid birthdays are so much fun!

How random that the guy thought you had a Scottish accent, lol.

  18. That cake is beautiful! And yes, it does look very tasty!!

I tweeze, but really should look into better eyebrow treatment. They need help. A lot. LOL

  19. I have to admit that I’m not a fan of kid’s birthday parties– especially for one-year-olds which always seem to be over the top even though the kid is too young to remember the events, too many people are invited, and the parents go overboard. (Unless maybe the baby had a rough first year, I don’t see the cause for such an elaborate celebration).

I’ll save my kid’s birthday party for when they’re like 4 or 5.

    • Tina says:

We did a smaller first bday for M, but they do remember a lot and get excited by age two. I’ll warn you on that one. M couldn’t wait for her bday party after going to some friends.

And funnily enough – this bday was one of those special ones you mentioned. Our friends took years to conceive and had little Catie 6 weeks early with lots of struggles along the way. So, yea. It was a big party. LOL 🙂

  20. Angela says:

I loved the movie Life As We Know It! So cute, predictable, but cute and funny! Eyebrows… I’m a tweezer!

  21. Kristi says:

I’m an eyebrow wax type of girl. Which reminds me I need to get my done!

  22. Mellissa says:

I try to go get them waxed but am really bad about it! I end up doing it every 6 months. Oh well. At least they are blonde 😉

  23. Wax. Tweeze between waxes.

  24. I tweeze my eyebrows!! I used to get them waxed, until I realized that my face looks better when they’re a little fuller and not as perfectly arched. So now I just save the waxing moolah for bikini waxes in the summer, which are beyond worth it to me!!

    • Tina says:

Oh goodness, yes!!! LOVE bikini waxes. I didn’t get my first one until I “had” to for my competition. It wasn’t near as bad as I though and the results were worth it. Now its something I definitely try to do during bikini months.

  25. Kristina says:

I love it-looks like so much fun and i’m with you-if it involves cake/cupcakes-im a happy girl!

  26. Danica says:

wax a couple times a year, tweeze the whenever needed-but i think i’m horrible at making them look “right”

  27. I tweeze b/c I’m cheap. I’ve thought about at least seeing what they’d look like if someone else shaped them, but never have.

  28. Looks yummy! I’m a tweezer.

  29. i know what you mean about the eyebrows. when i don’t have a chance to groom them for a while (i tweeze) i feel just gross! lol, it’s surprising how much of a difference such a small thing can make!

and lol at the photo of m with her static hair! so fun!

  30. Kelly says:

I get my eyebrows waxed about a month. It makes me feel like a girl again! haha! M is SO cute…oh my goodness…she just makes me smile everytime I see a picture of her!

  31. That is an awesome cake!
I like to get them waxed and then tweezed when necessary, but I seem to slack on the waxing part!

  32. Heather says:

We are very similar. If someone tells me their party involves cake, count me in!! 🙂
I tweeze my own eyebrows – I’m lucky their so light, I don’t really ever have to worry about them!

  33. You know I have your life…just 10 years later. I tweeze. I’m cheap that way. Max just asked me to make 7 layer dip this morning. He’s such a strange kid…this is while he was eating chili for breakfast. Sounds like you had a great weekend! Hopefully this leads to a great week!

  34. Ok, that chocolate amaretto cake sounds AMAZING. Ahh, I LOVE anything with amaretto in it!

As for my eyebrows, threading all the way! I started 4-5 years ago and haven’t changed since. I tweeze in between my sessions because I can’t find time to go every 2 weeks!

  35. I always have fun at kids parties too!!! Any reason for cake, lol!!

I usually get my eyebrows waxed and then I try to maintain them for awhile by plucking them, I got them threaded once but it was more painful than waxing or plucking them myself, haven’t done it since!

  36. Your life doesn’t sound too bad! I want 2 kids (well, I only want one, but I am getting hints that 2 would be “better”) — girl first, then boy. I haven’t even gotten close to starting in that department. And since I don’t get to be at home very much, so I sort of envy that you do. I’m stuck in corporate America… it’s not that great. I only get to see my love maybe 2-3 times a week, though I know that’s more than some people can. Long story short, I do not doubt that your life is good!

I only got an eyebrow wax once before my sister’s wedding. I usually just tweeze myself, but I know I need to improve my brows… just too lazy. Plus, the waxing process seems to irritate my skin there longer than I’d expect.

  37. Threading is torture. I’m telling you, the U.S. should thread suspected terrorists. They would give up EVERYTHING

  38. Don’t tell my mom, but that cake is wayyyy cooler than the one at my 1st B-day! So pretty!

I only tweeze. The thought of someone waxing my eyebrows terrifies me… so much room for error!

  39. Awesome – so glad the party was fun and that you got to see your friends, have a yum beer and that cake is ADORABLE! Good times!

  40. Sarah R says:

Love those photos of M! I thought Life As We Know It was cute too. My husband even liked it!

  41. I’m partial to threading, though lately I’ve just been tweezing! I need to go for an overhaul soon.

  42. Dorry says:

What a cute cake! Looks like a great weekend. I pluck my eyebrows, but think I’d prefer to get them waxed!

  43. Jen says:

Wow! That’s one heck of a 1st b-day party!!! Love the cake 🙂
I prefer getting the eyebrows waxed, quick!

  44. Kiddie birthday parties = 1. time for relaxation 2. the absolute CUTEST pictures 3. a chance to enjoy a nice cool shock top 😉

Looks like you had a great weekend, Happy Monday!!

  45. That party looks so cute and fun! I definitely prefer kid birthday parties that are at people’s homes/in their yards, versus places like Chuck-E-Cheese (shudder).
I pluck my own eyebrows, have never had them or wanted them waxed!

  46. LauraJayne says:

I tweeze, and I think I might be addicted. I literally do touch-ups every day! If I were smart (and rich), I think I’d do threading, but instead I am an obsessive eyebrow-maintainer. How was the movie? I’ve been trying to decide if I want to see it!

  47. jobo says:

Wax, all the way! Doesn’t even hurt 😉 And nooow I want a big hunk of cake. Yum.

  48. Kacy says:

Wax when I get really tired of looking at the fuzziness and tweeze in between.
The party sounds like a great time!

  49. Kara says:

I love the title of this post! I think I’ve said that statement multiple times 🙂

  50. Sana says:

I can’t wait till my b-day next week! I want cakeee! I get threading done, it hurts but I LOVE it! So worth it with the results.

    • Tina says:

Everyone keeps saying how threading hurts. Not motivating me to ever try it. LOL

      And yay for cake!

      • Sana says:

Ok, I know it hurts, BUT I would never do any other way, I like the personal touch that threading gives. The key is to have someone (Indian) do it and have them go fast.

I am not sure, if you can see my eyebrows in my pics, by they rock! You can take a mild painkiller beforehand. It’s not pain, just uncomfortable!
