I have to get something off my chest. I have an addiction problem. I’m addicted to Groupons. Whenever I get an email for a Groupon that includes a deal for a restaurant with an appetizing menu within a 30 mile radius, I hit “Buy Now”. I love getting to try out new places to eat that I otherwise may have never heard about or been wary to pay full price for a test-drive run. Unfortunately, when this addiction couples itself with my forgetfulness we have another problem.
When I flipped my calendar to April, I noticed that we had not one, but TWO Groupon deals expiring this weekend. Oops! Thankfully we had Saturday open to do a lot of eating. I didn’t mind. Big surprise, right? 😉
One of the spots had a perfect menu for a light lunch, so that’s exactly what we did. Cafe Lapin is a small cafe tucked away in the Buckhead area. It doesn’t look like much at all, but they had a nice sounding menu. I ordered an apricot chicken salad sandwich with the mixed greens salad.
The sandwich tasted a little weird and wasn’t my favorite, but the salad with its balsamic, dried cranberries, and sunflower seeds worked quite well. I left satisfied. After all, to cash in our entire Groupon we had some money to spare on a little dessert. I ordered an Oatmeal Dark Chocolate Cherry Toffee cookie.
A mouthful of a name for a cookie…and a mouthful of yum for flavor. I also admit to having an addiction to sweets. I own it and figure there could be worse things. Like, you know, not loving sweets. I would classify that as catastrophic.
In between our dining, we hung out with Peter’s family at his parents’ house to let our appetites get going again. Awhile later, it was time for dinner at The Fickle Pickle.
The Fickle Pickle is a really cute little restaurant in an old renovated house. I love the charm and vibe of places like this. I also love when the food lives up to the atmosphere. It most certainly did here.
For my dinner, I ordered a BLT sandwich that had bacon, arugala, tomato, BRIE cheese, and a basil spread on sourdough bread pressed panini style. The fries left a bit to be desired, but the sandwich…perfect. I know a certain somebody would agree.
We hightailed it out of there after eating because the kiddos were getting tired. After getting them to bed, we settled in for the evening with the movie 127 Hours. I really liked it. It kind of amazes me how a movie without much happening can capture my attention so well. Although, I did not stay attentive during the whole amputation scene. No thank you. Overall, I would recommend it though.
The rest of the weekend remained rather low-key. We stayed home from church because little B seemed sick. I went for a 5 mile run with Lee from In My Tummy. It was nice to run with a friend because we helped keep each other going and chatted off and on. She also helped me reach a new distance – 1st time hitting 5 miles! Wee! After the run, I spent the rest of the day napping and snuggling a sick kiddo. All in all a good weekend since B seems to be getting better. I hope yours was too! 🙂
Question of the Day – What was the best part of your weekend?
Tags: dining out, dinner, lunch, weekend recap
Congrats on the 5 miles!! I remember when I first hit 5 miles: it’s such an amazing feeling 🙂
I love the name: Fickle Pickle. Original, Mom & Pop restaurants are typically the best.
The best part of my weekend was sleeping and scrap booking with my girlfriends.
I love Groupons! Billy and I have actually purchased the same one without knowing it. I love a good deal – my favorite recent one was a massage last week. $25 for an hour long sports massage!
Your weekend sounds lovely despite the sick kiddo. I share your addiction to sugar though I am currently on hiatus while I recover from super cooties. The best part of my weekend was when I could stand upright for longer than 5 minutes without getting dizzy or hacking up a lung. 🙂
The two cutest restaurants I’ve ever been in were in old houses. I love that style!
I totally agree with you about 127 Hours. I thought that James Franco should have won best actor for that. I mean, he’s was the sole actor in one setting for 75% of the movie and it was still very gripping.
Have you checked out Scoutmob yet? You need to, especially after professing your Groupon addiction. Dare I say, it’s better!
Already signed up! 🙂
yummy! Looks delish. Best part of my weekend? Enjoying a GOOD glass of wine as odd as that may sound. While in Jamaica, the wine wasn’t very good and what can I say, I’m a bit of a wine snob 😉
Best part of my weekend was being with family and PR-ing my race!
The best part of my weekend was MY BIRTHDAY!! 🙂 Yay 22!!
It sounds like you had a pretty good weekend, glad you got to use your groupons just in time 😉
Best park of my weekend: Church on Sunday !
Yum The Fickle Pickle is really good. That also happens to be not too far from where I grew up! Congrats on running 5 miles, so awesome!!
Congrats on your distance milestone!! That’s so exciting!!
My favorite part of the weekend was seeing the excitement on my kiddos faces when they were watching Disney on Ice!! It was such a great moment!!
The groupons that we get in our area are never really good, but I am glad it is good in other areas! That gives me hope for when we move.
Awesome job on the 5 miles! It is an amazing feeling to reach a distance you have never fun before!
My favorite part of the weekend was just staying home with my little family. So wonderful! 🙂
Ooh that sandwich looks good. We have “living social” deals which are like groupon and I’ve bought a few that I need to use up. It’s easy to click BUY! when it’s good food at 50% off. My bf bought one for me that is for a local cooking/kitchen store. Can’t wait to use it!
