I Can’t Believe My Legs Survived

Somehow, my legs survived this on Saturday.
First, let’s back up to Saturday morning. Saturday morning I had my long run for the week planned. After doing a random gym workout instead of my run on Thursday, I couldn’t wait to get my run on. I headed out of my house with what seemed unlimited energy. Unfortunately, that energy didn’t translate over to my run. I accomplished the seven miles but it felt pretty difficult towards the end. I had only slept maybe 4 or 5 hours the night before and I could feel it. My legs dragged towards the end. I surprised myself that I still eeked out a 9:06 pace and finished the run in 1:03:44.
After coming home, showering, relaxing a bit, and downing lunch, I decided a hike with the family would be a fun thing to do together. We have not gone out with Baby B yet, so we chose a shorter, more touristy hike to see how he would handle the pack.
Even though I don’t consider Stone Mountain a true hiking excursion, it holds a special place in my heart. We always have a good time when we go.
Although, my calves might tell you different. The hike is one mile up and then back down. It truly is one giant stone with quite a few scenic spots along the way. It sounds comparatively easy to hikes we tend to choose, but I somehow always forget how steep some sections are!
It felt so great when we finally reached the top and could take a little break.
We hung out for awhile and then headed back down to get ourselves to dinner. I do not know how I woke up without feeling any soreness. I can’t believe my legs survived after running seven miles earlier in the day.
Perhaps eating my body weight in tacos helped? For dinner we went to a TexMex restaurant called Twisted Taco to use a Groupon I purchased awhile ago.
Ummm…not the best meal of my life. Actually, not even good in the most general sense. Even the service was awful! I ordered one of the taco platters. I chose a grilled steak and blue cheese, fish, and pork taco.
Meh. And that’s being generous with my description. On the bright side, the terrible service will give Peter and I a funny memory for the time to come! I don’t think that waiter could have forgotten or screwed up more things if he tried.
- What’s the worst service you have had at a restaurant?
- Do you like to hike?

i am loving the baby backpacks! your children are tooooo cute!
LOVE hiking! It’s an incredible workout yet is so relaxing at the same time being outdoors ‘roughin’ it! I would love to get into trail running so I could do more of it! Glad you had a nice hike 🙂
LOVE to hike! I think that we get wrapped-up in our worlds too often and we fail to appreciate what’s around us. It makes us a bit more likely to count our blessings if we get Out There and just realise that the Great Outdoors, with all of it’s greenery and health, is just fine without computers, technology and the general business associated with our material lives
That trail looks like fun! I wish we had something like that around here! I love your little family so much. 🙂
I like to hike, in fact the city of La Crosse is surrounded by the river on one side and bluffs on the other. Hiking to the top of the bluffs is one of my favorite things to do in the summer… a trip is due pretty soon!
That really sounds like a beautiful area!
It truly is! I’m planning on going out this week, weather pending, I’ll post some pictures 🙂
Any hike with a baby strapped to you is hard! You are a trooper for doing that after a 7 mile run!
I love the pictures of the kiddos in the baby backpacks. There are too cute!!!
Gorgeous view and what a fun family day filled with great photos!
What a great mom/wife you are to take your family hiking after that crazy run! I would have been fighting to stay upright! 😉
Love hiking, but don’t go often enough. Maybe we will start that up this summer. 🙂
As for service, there have been a handful of times when I was hard pressed to leave even a dollar on the table as tip as the service was so poor. A memorable one though was when I asked that the bacon not be included in my baked potato soup on a date (hadn’t eaten pork in years), and I barely made it home before being sick as they put it in anyway & I didn’t notice until the very end. Gah! 😛
I love Stone Mountain! It’s so beautiful all around that area.
I hate that you had a bad experience at Twisted Taco. Anytime I go to ATL I make it a point to go there…I’ve always had a great time and the food’s always been excellent! I guess it goes to show you never know. Maybe just a bad server?
It might have even been the location since there are a few different ones. The one we went to wasn’t one of the main spots so I bet that affected it. Stinks because this was the location closest. At least I have my beloved Cheeky for tacos!
