I Can’t Believe My Legs Survived

Somehow, my legs survived this on Saturday.
First, let’s back up to Saturday morning. Saturday morning I had my long run for the week planned. After doing a random gym workout instead of my run on Thursday, I couldn’t wait to get my run on. I headed out of my house with what seemed unlimited energy. Unfortunately, that energy didn’t translate over to my run. I accomplished the seven miles but it felt pretty difficult towards the end. I had only slept maybe 4 or 5 hours the night before and I could feel it. My legs dragged towards the end. I surprised myself that I still eeked out a 9:06 pace and finished the run in 1:03:44.
After coming home, showering, relaxing a bit, and downing lunch, I decided a hike with the family would be a fun thing to do together. We have not gone out with Baby B yet, so we chose a shorter, more touristy hike to see how he would handle the pack.
Even though I don’t consider Stone Mountain a true hiking excursion, it holds a special place in my heart. We always have a good time when we go.
Although, my calves might tell you different. The hike is one mile up and then back down. It truly is one giant stone with quite a few scenic spots along the way. It sounds comparatively easy to hikes we tend to choose, but I somehow always forget how steep some sections are!
It felt so great when we finally reached the top and could take a little break.
We hung out for awhile and then headed back down to get ourselves to dinner. I do not know how I woke up without feeling any soreness. I can’t believe my legs survived after running seven miles earlier in the day.
Perhaps eating my body weight in tacos helped? For dinner we went to a TexMex restaurant called Twisted Taco to use a Groupon I purchased awhile ago.
Ummm…not the best meal of my life. Actually, not even good in the most general sense. Even the service was awful! I ordered one of the taco platters. I chose a grilled steak and blue cheese, fish, and pork taco.
Meh. And that’s being generous with my description. On the bright side, the terrible service will give Peter and I a funny memory for the time to come! I don’t think that waiter could have forgotten or screwed up more things if he tried.
- What’s the worst service you have had at a restaurant?
- Do you like to hike?

What a perfect day!!! Looks like a blast! You have such a beautiful family Tina.
Awe! You have such a precious little family! Happy Mother’s Day (a day late!) You are a wonderful mommy!
Aww so sweet!! This looks like an AWESOME hike!! And CONGRATS on your awesome run!! 😀
P.S. You are all beautiful, and Tina you are looking totally AMAZING!! Can’t wait for your next Body After Baby post- you’ve come SO far!! 🙂
Next one coming on Wednesday! 🙂
Wow, that is a lot of walking! I imagine it’s double as hard when you’ve got kiddies to carry! I love hiking and am hoping to get out and do some this spring/summer. It’s so much fun, a great way to enjoy the outdoors, and a workout that you don’t even realize you’ve had until after!!
It’s crazy how sometimes you think the run is going to be perfect and it’s not and then you expect it to stink and it’s great. At least you got it done and that’s not a horrible time either! Sorry dinner wasn’t so great though.
You are SUCH an awesome Mommy. Seriously, a major role model for me 🙂 What a great family hike. I love hiking, but we haven’t been in some time. And Mexican is always delicious, but huge bummer on the service side. Hope you are having a great Monday
I hate getting poor service when I go out. I don’t expect anyone to bend over backwards but efficiency and politeness go a long way in impressing me!
Ditto. It was quite the experience. I seriously hope it was the guy’s first day or something.
Beautiful photos! Congrats on your inaugural hike with 2 kids!
I love to hike, but we sure don’t get out and do that often enough!
M looks so adorable with her sunglasses! Oh my gosh. Your family is so cute.
It was a perfect weekend outside, wasn’t it?! Looks like a ton of fun for you too! We love hiking. The kids are getting better about it, but they have their limits since their legs are way shorter than ours. I could hike all day and never get tired of it.
I LOVE hiking, I really hope we move to a city that has great hiking in the surrounding area. We used to hike all the time when I was young.
You have such a beautiful family, all of your love shines through in your photos! 🙂
What an adorable family picture!! And I love B’s Georgia shirt!
Yea. Peter wanted him to spit up all over it. He went to Georgia Tech. Baby B kept it clean all day though. Good boy. 😉
I meant to comment a few posts ago, that I love Little M’s pony tail 🙂
Wow that hike looks gorgeous but I’m sure you were DYING after running 7 miles in the morning! I’m impressed!
I love hiking and am looking to do more this summer, Minnesota isn’t very hilly but there are a few good places.
I often have bad service, last weekend I sat at a restaurant and waited for 15 minutes and no one came to wait on us. So we left. It wasn’t even very busy. Grrr!
That’s so ridiculous. We actually almost walked out last night too because it took a bit for our (lackluster) waiter to finally make his way over to us.
I LOVE to hike. My husband’s friend was apparently just telling him how crazy he thought we were that we had spent a portion of almost every day hiking during our honeymoon in Hawaii. Their idea of a good vacation would’ve just been on the beach.
Oh my gosh, that hike looks fantastic! I love hiking…it’s been way too long since I’ve hit up the great hikes in our area! I think this weekend is going to have to change that!
I LOVE to hike! My mother-in-law suggested a hike yesterday, and I LOVED it. We all did- we’re already talking about going again!
I love to hike, especially with my dad! There’s a big state park near us where we love to go. It’s the best daddy-daughter date 🙂
Oh my goodness, I love Mexican food! But it is SUCH a bummer when you get bad service and a less-than-stellar meal. I hope it’s better next time 🙂 And great job on your run AND your hike!
Isn’t it amazing what our bodies can do! Looks like a perfect day 🙂
Tina! I love when you stop by my blog! U are so sweet and so beautiful and I adore your little cute family!!!!!
Hope your Mothers Day was great! You are a wonderful and amazing mommy!!
xoxo <3
I love stone mountain! When I was little we lived in gwinett county for over 6 Years and used to go to the laser show and see the fireworks and pack a picnic dinner!
I grew up in Gwinnett! Small world. 🙂
We will definitely be hitting up the laser show and fireworks for a picnic dinner sometime this summer. It’s tradition!
I love to hike, but there really aren’t any good places nearby. Maybe in DC!
Good job on the run girl! Sorry about the bad food/service. I hate that!
Yes, and I went on a 5-mile hike yesterday actually. It looks like the weather and scenery were just amazing on your hike!
aw man – that sucks about the service (and food). boo. We get bad service all the time. When it’s not bad we’re SHOCKED. Seriously! haha
What great pictures – love your lone time workout and family workout – you’re such an active mommy!
Even with the bad food and bad service, it still looks like you had a great day!
Happy late Mothers Day!!
This looks like a great family hike! I have never been on a hike on a rock. All of the ones I have done were on trail. Rock would be interesting..
I haven’t been hiking in a long time, but I love it!
Wow, I can’t believe you hiked that WHILE carrying Baby B! You go girl!
Luckily he is small. An extra 13-14 pounds didn’t feel too bad. I felt bad for Peter! I usually hike with that pack since he has flat feet, but knew my legs wouldn’t handle the 30 lbs of that load. Haha!
I’m so jealous of your hike! It’s soooo flat here. I kinda like your outdoor activities better than mine 😉
That looks like it was SO fun! The weather looks gorgeous and I love the pics 🙂
cool! we lived in Dacula back when it was a TINY little podunk town. As a matter of fact, I attended dacula elementary the first year it opened when I was in Kindergarten!
Those are wonderful pictures of you and your family, Tina! My parents used to take us hiking all the time – those are some of my favorite memories from growing up.
Also, I loved your “stopping fat talk” post. I think what I love about your self-reflections posts is that they are so real, and even though you and I are at somewhat different places in our lives, I can always relate to them. Lately I’ve been feeling like my pants are tighter and I just don’t feel quite as good about myself, and reading your posts always makes me want to head in a positive direction and treat myself with more kindness. Thank you!
And thank you Corey for this comment. It put a big smile on my face which is just what I needed today. I think, as women, we have so many things we can relate to with each other. That’s why I always try to openly share it all. We have to help each other know we’re not alone and can turn to each other for support. 🙂
i love all the fun activity you had on Saturday! wow, I would have been wiped out though.
Its funny, my husband and I always laugh and remember those stories with horrible food and service. Well, we look back now and laugh, not necessary at the time being. haha.
Stone Mountain! Holds a special place in my heart too 🙂
I always think of you every time we go!!!
That picture of the tacos is deceiving – it looks good! 🙂
You are one brave lady going out and hiking after running so far! Nice job on the run!
I also had really bad service at a Mexican restaurant recently. The place was nearly empty since it wasn’t a really busy time of day and the waiter would just randomly disappear. Not going back there again, for sure.
I’m just wondering, how much weight does the backpack thing your hubby wore hold? I really would like to take my little guy hiking but he’s already 30 pounds and I don’t know if I could manage that kind of weight on top of the hike.
Our daughter is around 25 lbs and it doesn’t feel too bad hiking with her. Actually, I’m the one that normally does but my legs were too tired. I think the pack holds up to 40 or 50 lbs? Although I think M would be walking by that point. LOL
HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TINA! Hope you and your family had a wonderful day 🙂 Loved your guest post on Julie’s blog as well!
BUMMER ABOUT THE RESTAURANT….I hate when that happens. LOVED your guest post on pb fingers….I love how open you are about everything, you help SO MANY WOMAN!!! GREAT RUN, I don’t know how you do it on 4 hours of sleep. You and your fam look absolutely beautiful!
Nothing like poor service to make you appreciate your home meals. I know I often take mine for granted. Way to go with the run though!
I live hiking. That seems like a cool spot to go. Definitely not your traditional hike.
Worst service I’ve ever had – the restaurant was practically empty and it still took 45 minutes to get our meals. That was after waiting half an hour for the waitress to even take our order. We even had to stack our plates at the edge of the table so she would come pick them up. It took her forever. She was too busy standing 20 feet away chatting with a friend. No joke. It was awful.
That would drive me crazy!!! I hate when people act like doing their job is such an inconvenience to them. I understand there are crappy days…but you don’t have to take it out on someone who will be PAYING you and is likely trying to enjoy their night.
Oh, I love to hike. I used to hike a lot when I lived in Arizona, but now we’re in Ohio, and well, there’s not too many hiking spots here. 🙁 I miss it!
Looks like such a fun weekend, minus the taco disappointment, of course! But sometimes when I have a bad restaurant experience, it just makes me appreciate the better experiences even more! We checked out a restaurant in Pasadena while we were visiting last week, and we had awful service, they kept forgetting to bring stuff…and the food was just meh, much like your taco experience. I forgot to blog about that one…I’ve been a slacker blogger lately because we’re in a super transitional time/might be moving, etc. Anywho, your pictures are lovely–what a gorgeous family!! HAPPY MADRE’S DAY!!! Hugs xoxo
I don’t think I could keep up regular blogging with all you’re keeping up with either. Completely understandable.
And meh food always bums me out. But you’re right – it just makes the good that much better. 🙂
What a fun-filled day with the fam! And thanks for the advice on Twisted Taco. I was curious about their food, but now I know it’s a no-go. 🙂
I love to hike but it feel like ages since I’ve been. Luckly the weather has been nice so hopefully soon.
Mmmm…you know I loves a taco! 😛
What a cool hiking place! Looks like a blast. And you are looking amazing by the way 😀
I’ve done that hike before and it is crazy steep. It’s not long, but the workout will definitey work your glutes. My quads were so sore the next day!
beautiful day for a beautiful mama and family 🙂 so glad you enjoyed it! and thank you for your comment RE post show…means so much and I may just be taking you up on that
I am so looking forward to enjoying hiking more this summer!
Impressive, 7 mile run + a hike! Sounds fun though.
