The Epitome Of Exciting
Posted: September 17, 2011 at 9:49 amGood morning! Anyone do anything exciting last night? We had our typical Friday night here. After Peter got home, we took a family trip to the grocery store for our weekly groceries. Yes, we spent our Friday afternoon together doing errands. Even the most mundane tasks can be special when done with loved ones. #cheesybuttrue
On the way home, we stopped to pick up the standard Friday night dinner.
Many runners fuel up with pasta the night before long runs. I fuel up with Subway. Whenever we don’t have leftovers available for a quick Friday dinner, we rely on Subway.
Last night’s sandwich came with a side of personal training studying before tuning out with some of Chef Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares.
Have you seen this show? It disturbs me greatly. Some restaurants are just plain nasty. It makes you wonder how certain places keep in business. I also wonder how many of the restaurants that go on the show actually keep up their “new and improved” habits?
All the above is to say I am obviously the epitome of exciting.
To keep the excitement bubbling, I hit the hay earlier than normal to do the usual Saturday morning thing. Wake up early. Eat some peanut butter and English muffin. Break out the capris for the first chilly long run of the season.
This week was a recovery week so I “only” had to hit 6 miles. <--- I hate saying “only” 6 miles. That’s such a ridiculous statement. But that’s all besides the point…
For my run, I guess those two days of rest left me feeling refreshed. I ran six mile with an average 9:00 minute pace. I even came home and took fifteen minutes to stretch and foam roll. I really want to stay focused on that after the tightness I experienced this week. Then, you can likely guess what followed that.
But of course a big bowl of oatmeal and more pumpkin spiced coffee without a need for Starbucks. This morning’s oatmeal featured a dollop each of cranberry butter and peanut butter, a sprinkle of raisins, and half a crumbled slice of Pumpkin Carrot Cake Bread. I can now face the weekend with a smile on my face. Not that I wouldn’t anyways. I have some fun things coming my way today! You’ll see.
- Do you ever watch cooking/food challenge or other similar shows? What is your favorite? Back when we had cable, I LOVED the show Chopped.
- Do you like to go out or stay in normally on a Friday night?

I love getting subs at Subway because I decide what does on my sandwich and they have some pretty healthy options 🙂
I used to watch Kitchen Nightmares 🙂 I love watching cooking shows!
Your oats look delish!
Woo nice going on the run! 6 miles or 60, it’s an accomplishment! At the risk of sounding like a granny, I love staying in/low key on friday nights – I wake up feeling so refreshed on Saturday morning with energy to make the most of the day! Also I also work half days on Saturday so showing up shattered would probably do me no favors! Have a fab day!
My “ideal” weekend would be to stay in on Friday evening and go out on Saturday evening. I just love being able to veg on a Friday night after a long week.
I’m the same way. I love chilling on Friday nights…but doing something fun on Saturday.
I remember watching Kitchen NIghtmares, it definetly grossed me out from time to time!
Ugh – I hate Ramsay on his show where he picks a chef from a red and blue team – totally blanking on the name now! He just yells way too much on that one and it gets annoying. I like him on MasterChef though. Did you know that he runs marathons?
I’ve never seen that show. I’m a little embarrassed to admit that our Friday date night involved watching Jersey Shore. ha ha! I don’t get Subway enough. We had it for the first time in years a couple of months ago and I was super impressed. 🙂
Oh rest assured, our night was equally as exciting :> Ryan wanted to get out of the house after his surgery recovery so we ate dinner at McCallisters after I ran in Target for a 2 year old b-day gift and some Glucosamine for my achey knee.
I’m 50 years old. Happy Saturday!!
Just wanted to say I still couldn’t comment on yours but that I LOVED her 9 month pics from the other day. That outfit was TOO adorable with the pearls and leg warmers. 🙂
Great job on the run, Tina!! When is your 1/2 again??
Our TV is pretty much on The Food Network all day long! 😉 We love Chopped, Restaurant Impossible, Cupcake Wars etc. Both kids love those shows as well…… Amara wants to open a store called Diva Cakes or Scooter Cakes! I can’t remember the last time I did something “crazy” on a Friday night…I run on Saturday morning too and even a small glass of wine will make it that much harder! #truestory 🙂
Great run and have a great weekend!
I’m pretty much a Food Network addict — although I adore Alton Brown’s _Good Eats_ so much that I have the last two seasons of his show on my iPad.
Yes, it’s a sickness.
I love that you used “epitome” in a blog title and in the entry itself. It’s my inner former English teacher coming out 😉 Well done!
I went to day 1 of ACL with my sister :))))) And saw Sara Bareilles and Coldplay live!!!!!!!! Oh my freaking goodness! AMAZING!
I haven’t seen that show. I like to live in Wonder Land where none of that kind of stuff happens and everyone is clean and does the right thing. 🙂
We rarely go out on Friday nights. I am a granny….I was in asleep by 9:30 last night.
Isn’t it crazy how warped our minds become as runners? I was running 20 this morning and at 13 I said to myself, “only 7 more left!” and instantaneously realized how ridiculous that was!
I ran a little over 6 miles yesterday and I wish I could say it was “only” that much haha…good for you!! I do like to stay in on Fridays or do something low-key. Btw, I’m self-hosted now and not really showing up in google reader for some reason…just wanted to let you know!
my husband and i always have chill friday nights…so relaxing after a long week!
I love Man vs. Food, does that count? 😉
I prefer to chill on my couch on Friday night, I’m just too tired to go out.
Dang, I really miss Subway! The two around here have closed down recently. No more subs for me. 🙁
It’s crazy how it’s already getting chilly out! I’m kind of in denial 🙁
I absolutely LOVE Chopped!! 🙂
I always stayin on Friday nights. Seriously, I’m so tired at the end of the day that going out and doing something does not sound good.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE any cooking show that features Gordon Ramsey. We watch them all: Kitchen Nightmares, Master Chef, Hell’s Kitchen. There’s one with him that’s more of a reality show, but it’s not one of my favorites.
Gotta love Gordon Ramsey! I’m an avid viewer of Hell’s Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares, but the food on Hell’s Kitchen is much more appetizing. Haha! 😉
We stay in on friday nights. We like to either catch up on our shows we DVR’ed from the week or rent movies. We both work early on Saturdays so its just another work night for us.
You were almost as exciting as we were *last* night! Hello homemade pizza, 2 hours of “Bad Dog” on Animal Planet, and then finishing it up by making homemade Cliff bars at 11:00 p.m. I think you may have met your match, Tina 😉
Also – how you’re using “only” is so relative! Hopefully most people realize you’re “only” using “only” because it’s less than what would usually be called for on your training plan. 🙂 But yeah…”only” has a negative connotation with it.
Either way – great job on the pace!!
We usually stay in Friday nights since it’s after a long day/week of work and then go out and do something Saturday night when we’re more refreshed.
I typically stay in on Friday nights. Occasionally we’ll make them “date nights” but I am SUCH a homebody.
