Birthdays, Race Photos, Winners & Frosting Happiness

Posted: October 21, 2011 at 9:09 am

Hey hey hey!!! Looks like we all made it to Friday! Finally! Sheesh. This week lasted forever. But all that matters is that we made it…and that it’s time for Fun Fact Friday! Boy do I have some good ones for today.

Most importantly…

Today is Makenzie’s 3rd birthday!!

makenzie tutu-1

That news makes me a) teary, b) happy, and c) shocked. I don’t know how three years have passed already, but I do know that she enriches my life beyond measure. Except for maybe during temper tantrums??? Who am I kidding? Even then I love the heck out of her and can’t wait to celebrate her birthday! Princess

And speaking of birthdays – I’m a terrible party planner. Makenzie’s party is TOMORROW and I have not a clue what I’m doing for food. We have the cake, but as for princess snack ideas….I’m at a loss. Decorations? You know they will be standard princess plates from the party store. Which I still need to pick up. Oops!

IMGP9910-1

I wish I wasn’t so awful at party planning because I would happily host all of the following parties I have always wanted to attend:

  • a murder mystery dinner party
  • an 80s party
  • a Halloween/costume party
  • a tacky Christmas sweater party

I must have an underlying desire to dress up in crazy outfits. And I’m sure my friends are all breathing a sigh of relief that I hate party planning right now.

Peter killed Barbie.

IMGP2154-1

Yes. A few days ago, I drove up to our house with that starting at me. I seriously considered getting back in my car and driving away. I knew an ugly scene awaited me behind our doors. At least I know I’m the favorite parent now. Winking smile

Jewelry hates me.

IMGP1823-1

I could never get my ears pierced because I would inevitably get a terrible infection no matter what I tried. Necklaces always make me feel like I’m wearing a turtleneck. Now even my wedding rings are revolting against me! What is with that nasty, burning rash where my rings go?!

I do not take attractive race pictures.

Then again…does anyone?

When doing a run on the treadmill yesterday, I stumbled across a question in Shape that claimed 22% of women would rather have their dream body than a million dollars. Interesting. Very interesting.

Not gonna lie – if by dream body they mean one that will stay perfectly healthy on the inside and fit on the outside AND allow me to eat a giant cupcake every day without it changing a thing…I would go for the body.

Money can’t buy happiness. Frosting can. I can’t wait to see how many people take me serious.

I feel insanely happy right now. And, no, that is not code for “I just ate a tub of frosting”. I’m just…happy. I hope you are too. Red heart

  • What type of party have you always wanted to throw/attend?
  • Would you choose the body or $1 million?

One last Fun Friday Fact – the giveaway winner of the 4all by jofit workout gear is Lindsay @ Biking Before Bed! Congrats!!! Email me to claim your prize!

  1. Happy Birthday to Makenzie!!! I hope she has a great birthday celebration!

  2. I’d probably pick the $ which would afford me the time to work at that dream body 😉 Happy Birthday to Makenzie!!

  3. mckenzie and i have the same birthday:) hope you have fun celebrating!

  4. Happy Birthday to that cutie pie! I used to have that prob with my wedding ring – I started taking it off when I washed my hands and dried that area completely before putting it back on. Now I just take extra care to keep it dry and I’ve not had any problems sense.

  5. Happy Birthday, M! 🙂

The party will go great. As long as you’ve got the rockin’ princess plates, who cares if the snacks are themed?

But really, anything pink would probably work. You could do chex mix with pink/red/white M&M’s mixed in? Uhhh… this is hard…

  6. Happy Birthday, M!

I love throwing parties and I am definitely an over planner! I always have WAY too much food because I think that my guests need 400 different choices! However, even though I’m an over planner, I am a procrastinator, so I am always trying to do a million things right before the party!

  7. He did NOT leave the head hanging out like that. That is toooo funny…and kinda creepy, haha.

Happy Birthday Mackenzie!!! Tina, she looks SO cute in her tutu 🙂

Your poor hand:( One of my friend’s jewelry hates her too. Is there anything you can do for that?

And frosting will NOT bring you happiness, Tina. Unless it has sprinkles, obviously 😉

  8. Happy Birthday to your little princess!

I get the SAME rash on my ring finger! I hate that I can’t wear my rings as often as I’d like – read: ever – but if you don’t wear them around the house and put cortisone cream on it, it kind of works. I think mine’s from our hard water when I wash dishes, which is a great excuse to get out of washing dishes 😉

Good luck at the party! I’m sure it’ll be just fantastic! 🙂

  9. If my body stayed that way, I’d chose the bod. But I like food, so the bod would be gone in a couple years. My yacht would last longer than that. 🙂

Love the Frosting = Happiness. That reminded my of Tosh’s money and happiness thing with the jet ski. If you haven’t seen that part of his stand-up skit, I highly recommend it. 🙂 Too funn!

  10. Glad you’re having such a great day! Happy Birthday to Makenzie!!!

  11. Happy birthday to M! It’s my birthday too so i’ll celebrate a little extra for her too!

Stinks about your rings – I react to most earrings and necklaces like that, but luckily my rings are OK!

  12. Happy birthday to your beautiful daughter! You have lots to be proud of and thankful for! 🙂 And I would be happy to look like that in a race photo – I’m always red-faced! 🙂

  13. Happy Birthday little M!
If I could eat the giant cupcake every day, I too would pick the body, but other than that I think I would pick the money because my body is good enough to go spend that money on doing things I love like skiing !

  14. cheryl says:

what is your ring made of? i was lucky i got a warning that white gold contains nickel….a LOT of people, myself included, have trouble with nickel. i can wear a necklace for a bit but always have it in my bag by the ride home and have to buy nickel-free earrings or get not-so-pretty results.

    • Tina says:

      Interesting. Mine is white gold.

      • cheryl says:

i am willing to wager that the nickel is the culprit. SUPER common allergy/sensitivity. i think there may be ways to minimize it…not sure if the jeweler or the allergist is the better resource.

i was really lucky that i was warned about it when the exand i were “just browsing” for ring styles . my ring was platinum (well, still is…buried away to be sold when i want some money for a vacation with the MUCH better new guy!). it IS pricier, but i didn’t have any trouble….this from a girl who can even react to a tight fabric with hives and who finds jewlery tucked in my nicer purses since i never remember to take it back out after i stuff it in there partway through a dressy event.

  15. Happy birthday M!!

Is there anything they can put on the inside of your rings so they don’t rub directly on your skin?

  16. Happy Birthday to your little munchkin! She is too cute.

I want to throw an Iron Chef party. I would assign the “secret ingredient” ahead of time, and everyone would have to bring a dish with that ingredient. Then, we all vote on the best tasting, most original, and prettiest plating.

  17. Your little Makenzie is TOO CUTE! Happy Birthday to her!

I’ve always wanted to throw an Ugly Christmas Sweater party complete with tons of Christmas treats and hot chocolate. I’m contemplating trying to pull it off this year… We’ll see!

Haha, I love the frosting=happiness! Can I have both??

  18. I’m SO glad that you’re happy today!! Me too!! Feels like things are finally under control – at least a little bit. Kiss that sweet 3 year old for me!

  19. After having a tumor and dealing with not being able to do the things I want to all the time with this body, I would go for the body for sure. I don’t need tons of money anyway, just enough to be comfortable would be nice.

Happy Birthday to M! I hope you all have an incredible fun filled weekend!

  20. Happy Birthday to M! Princess plates and cake – you’ll have it set! Little girls will be thrilled just by that 🙂

SO sorry about your finger! Mine used to do the same thing, and the doctor gave an ointment used for eczema and said to take it off every time my hand was in water, and make sure it was completely dry before putting it back on. That seemed to do the trick!

I think I would take the money to allow me to be able to afford the gym, which I find such release and enjoyment being able to do (when I can afford it!). I think I would take that over the body…

  21. Oh your rash is scary! Poor thing! I think I would take the body too 🙂 I’m actually planning a fiesta for my fiance’s birthday in December…lots of Mexican food, and special margaritas! Happy Birthday to your baby girl 🙂

  22. katie says:

Happy 3rd Birthday to your beautiful princess! So sweet!

I am sorry to hear about you and jewelry, that is not fun! Yikes ! Some cheap jewelry I wear, I find it does that to me too, not as bad though.

I hope you and the family have a wonderful weekend girl! xoxo

  23. Brittany says:

Awww happy birthday to her!!! I hope you have a great party tomorrow! 😀 I am sensitive to cheap jewlery too! I used to get rashes all the time. I’m with you on the body as long as I had the same guidelines that you just said 🙂 have an awesome weekend!!

  24. jobo says:

I am SO with you on the big ass cupcake = hot body thing. Can’t that be true?! Any time I watch Cupcake Wars, I am DROOLING! Totally LOLed reading that part of your post! And happy beautiful to miss MacKenzie! 3 years old! Wow. Gorgeous daughter you are raising 🙂 XO!

  25. Lee says:

    Happy Birthday Makenzie!!

My race photo was awful too. I saw the camera, I don’t know why I didn’t smile.

    • Tina says:

I saw the camera too. Yet I opted for the “I’m too busy drooling right now” look. Must have been daydreaming about brunch. 😉

  26. Erica says:

Awww happy birthday to your gorgeous little lady!! Make fruit dip! Easy and loved by all!! Cool whip mixed with single serving of fruit yogurt. If you use strawberry it can be pink!

  27. Happy Birthday to Makenzie 🙂

  28. Sara says:

Happiest of birthday to Little M! Mine was yesterday! Discovering so many people are having babies before or after mine! Awesomeness! The rash … I get that if I don’t remove my wedding rings when washing my hands. It’s especially bad in the winter 🙁 I take my rings off when I’m at home or exercising, etc. I just have to be very careful. During the winter I use a lot of lotion! I hope that helps. It’s so irritating. I hope those tricks help you. Also, I love that you don’t care for necklaces. Me too! And I have my ears pierced but only wear earrings if I have to dress up for something (and even then I sometimes don’t!) The ladies at work rag on me all the time about my lack of jewelry. Hey, I wear my wedding rings! Geez. Ha Good luck and have fun partying. I would love to throw a birthday party for someone! I am kind of organizing my own for tomorrow but most of that is handled by the restaurant we’re going to … and this is such a long comment. Have a great day, Tina! I’m feeling very chipper today too!

  29. Aww Happy Bday to little M!

I’ve always wanted to do the christmas sweater party but my Husband was just not on board…I might have to buy him a horrid sweater just to see what would happen.

  30. Amy Lauren says:

I’d take the money over the dream body any day. I have lots of body image issues but really, it’s not THAT bad. I’m in pretty good health, anyway.

I think a tacky Christmas sweater party would be super fun! Good luck with organizing Mackenzie’s birthday party though, I’m sure you guys will have a great time :).

  31. Happy birthday to your beautiful little girl!! I totally just thought of this, but I think it would be fun to have a party where people dress up in outfits from other countries/cultures and have to use an accent based on that :D. I’m finally starting to be really content with my body, so I’d take the million bucks!

  32. Happy birthday to Mackenzie!!

I’d take the money, hands down.

And I would LOVE to throw a murder-mystery party, a casino-themed party, and an around-the-world party, where everyone brings a food/drink from a different part of the world. I went to one before and it was so much fun!

  33. Happy birthday M!!! So fun to have a princess party!

Can I get halfway to my dream body and half a million? Hahaha.

So my friend’s wife had issues with her rings, have you tried platinum? Or theres some coating you can get on the rings that might help. That’s no fun!

  34. Happy B-day to Makenzie! I would take the body too! Unless the million is tax free! haha

  35. Almost party time Ms. Makenzie!

As for the rings…make sure you take them off to wash hands and completely dry before putting them back on. Also don’t let lotion get stuck under there.

And have your tried putting clear nail polish under the inside. It acts as a barrier.

  36. Happy 3rd birthday to Makenzie! She is too cute! I love her little princess outfit! When I was that age I refused to wear anything other then a dress every single day!
and that ring rash looks painful! eeek!

  37. Rebecca says:

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAKENZIE. 😀

Eh. I think I’d take the million dollars.
I just thought of Matthew Gubler’s line in (500) Days of Summer: “She’s better than the girl of my dreams; she’s real.”
A million dollars would allow me to pay for school and still have money left over to save (because I’m not much of a spender). I’d probably give some of it to our church (depending on how I obtained the million, of course) or something.
Sure, I don’t have this body for all that long, and I need to take care of it, but I don’t need a “dream” body to be happy with myself. My body’s pretty good as it is, thanks. 🙂

  38. Actually, you look smoking hot (and strong!) in that race photo. Just FYI.

  39. Weeee HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MAKENZIE!! 🙂

I hope she has wonderful, fun-filled day!!

  40. Sarah says:

Happy Birthday to Makenzie! I bet the party will be fun, no matter what you choose to serve:-).

  41. Happy Birthday, Makenzie!! And I’d take the million dollars!

  42. You should have joined a sorority! Haha I’ve been to all but the murder mystery party! Tacky Christmas is the best though.

  43. Happy 3rd Birthday to Makenzie! If you’re on pinterest, search for princess party and you’ll find a ton of ideas.

    I’d take the body too!

  44. Happy birthday to your little munchkin! She’s so cute! And I’m sure the party will be great! I’ve always wanted to throw a Christmas Ugly Sweater party, too! Maybe one of these days…Oh, I would totally take the million dollars!!! That way I could hire a personal trainer to get the body AND pay off my student loans. Win-win. 😉

  45. Happy Birthday to Makenzie!!

I think you’re right, I could easily find more joy in frosting than money. 🙂

  46. What? How can you say that frosting can get you happiness? That is so unhealthy!!

    😉 😉 😉

i’d probably pick the million dollars. I’m finally in a spot in my ED recovery where I feel I have a good hold on maintaining my body while eating what I want and exercising when I have time. So why not pay off the student loans and other debt?

  47. Ela says:

Happy birthday to Mackenzie–and celebration to you as well! I am my mom’s first child and I always get the impression that my birthday is more important to her than it is to me: it’s a special day of reflection for you. Someone else should throw you a party!

SO glad you’re feeling happy, and of course the party will be great.
    love
    Ela

  48. […] let you all know that today is Makenzie’s 3rd birthday in my earlier post. That meant we had lots of special treatment in the FFF household for the little […]

  49. Your finger! Augh! Do you have some metal allergy? Not that that would explain why your finger just now started rashing, since you’ve certainly been married for quite some time…haha. But still. Hope it clears up soon!

Um, I also love the fact that Makenzie and Emily from Daily Garnish’s brand new boy Cullen have the same birthday. I may or may not be too involved in my favorite bloggers’ lives. Haha. Good luck with the party!
