Take A Chill Pill

Posted: May 3, 2010 at 9:53 pm

I forgot to mention this morning: catch up from the weekend here (Lessons from April) and here (Margarita Fun).

You may remember my rough morning and how that led me to just needing to take a chill pill. Luckily, I did find a few various ones to bring down my nerves, frustrations, and overdramatic tendencies. Even better is the fact that none of these chill pills have warnings for suicidal thoughts, insomnia, diarrhea, or heart arrhythmia. And your excitement from these chill pills won’t send you to the emergency room if the joy lasts for more than four hours like some pills caution. Take your pick of my chill pill wonders. Hurry before I patent them and sell them as $100/month prescriptions.

Chill Pill Option #1 – Girl Talk

I got a phone call from one of my best girlfriends. We were able to just sit and chat for an entire hour. We have been playing phone tag the last week or more and I was thrilled to catch up. I got to hear how well her baby girl is improving and provide some support on the early weeks of motherhood. She was able to commiserate with me on how much this week sucks in the trying to conceive calendars. And we just laughed and talked about any topic under the sun.

Chill Pill Option #2 – Sweat Session

Since I was breathless this morning from stress and not cardio, I knew I needed to get moving at some point today. Working out is always an instant help. It just feels good to sweat. An at home workout of Turbo Kick helped to remedy my angst. 55 minutes of kicking, punching, and shaking can help anything.

Chill Pill Option #3 – Bloggie Mind Readers

I gotta say that it always amazes me how much blogging can help ease my struggles. I decided to relax by clicking through my Google Reader and was met with numerous messages on various blog posts that were just what I needed to read. Anna talked about how we are truly beautiful in ways that matter. Hallie & Sarah both discussed comparing themselves to previous fitter versions of themselves, which is something I can definitely relate to, and how we cannot allow it to bring us down and keep it from living our lives to the fullest now. Jessica brought up the importance of recognizing who we really are and that our identities in our fitness selves are not who we solely are. I needed that message because a lot of my frustration these days is feeling like I have lost a part of myself with not being the super fit/defined mom and athlete anymore. And my Bible verse of the day just topped it off - “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”

Chill Pill Option #4 – Listening to Baby Laughs

And please excuse my crazy laughs and/or baby voice.

Chill Pill Option #5 – Laughing at Your Baby

Need I say more???

Chill Pill Option #6 – Getting Lost in a Book

P1140100

You all know I love to read. Getting sucked into a fun story helps cure my blues. You don’t have to think about what is ailing you. You can either pretend you are part of the exciting story. Or find peace that your life isn’t that bad. It’s a win-win situation.

Chill Pill Option #7 – Sharing the Love

P1140102

I went to the post office to mail off some goodies. The Amazing Grass products to help Jess get in her veggies along with her fantastic cooking/baking and a care package to my awesome blogger pal Lisa.  You can’t help feeling good while doing kind things for others.

Chill Pill Option #8 – Just Don’t Care

P1140093

When things look like this? Turn around. Choose ignorance for the moment and move on. Everyone will survive even without your super powers solving everything for a day. No, that isn't too bad...but it's when I took a picture.

Chill Pill Option #9 – Drink

P1140094

Although margaritas sure would have been nice, I knew that the H2O would be a better fit. After all, a perfect cure to a “feel gross” day is to down the agua to help rid some of the bloat. Gulp!

Chill Pill Option #10Leave me a comment telling me your favorite way to decompress. I had to find a way to 10 somehow!

  1. I LOVE TURBO KICK! 🙂 I wrote about it in my fitness section telling people about it if they don’t know about good at home workouts..bc really it’s one of the only one’s that doesn’t bore me to death! 🙂

Also, your baby laughs video melted my heart 🙂

And…I’m the same way..I generally just say, “I don’t care” and let the mess pile from time to time…You just have to in order to focus on what really matters, like your baby’s laughs 🙂

  2. Haha I love the picture of your daughter in your husband’s shoes! Soo cute! Sometimes, watching TV, doing a soduku, playing minesweeper, or reading People helps me chill outtt.

  3. Heather says:

aaaaaaah, this is JUST what i needed to read today 🙂 i definitely am needing a chill pill right about now!

  4. Jenn (GH) says:

Hanging out with my cat really helps me to chill out. I’ll probably be one of those “weird cat ladies” when I get older. 😉

  5. Hallie says:

Aw, this was awesome! I love to drink tea to calm down, or I also like to zone out…usually with some trashy TV. Or, a walk in the sunshine with my dog or a big hug from the boyfriend. All good things 🙂

  6. Run Sarah says:

What a great post! I love reading a great novel to chill out, I can totally get lost in the storyline.

  7. Vee says:

Glad you are feeling better. All of those tips are fantastic! Nothing beats the girl talk, a proper workout to take your mind off things and ‘I don’t care’ about the house attitude. Good luck with the results, sending prayers your way!

  8. Listening to your daughter giggle just totally made my morning!

  9. homecookedem says:

Awwwwwwwww, Makenzie’s laugh is so adorable!!!!!! Good for you for making efforts to turn a rough day into an awesome one!! I went to bed, haha! But I was sick so that was a good thing. 😉

  10. Love the chill pill list!

  11. Cristin says:

Definitely to go for a run helps me decompress, something I need to do often right now.

Great job making a not so great day, turn into one. You are awesome!

  12. morriskr says:

A nice long hot bath is what I look forward to at the end of most days. While sometimes watching some dumb TV show. =)

  13. Cristy says:

I really love this post. I will have to book mark it to read when I am feeling stressed. Thanks!

  14. I love the video of your daughter laughing! She’s so precious!

  15. Therese says:

We are having total blogger ESP because my post was very similar to this 🙂 I am using the month of MAY to just take a chill pill. April was really hard on me and I just need to take a breath and trust that things will work out!

  16. lisaou11 says:

I think I might have to just watch M laugh when I need a smile. Seriously, the cutest thing ever. Thanks for posting it!

Id agree with the people who said a long hot bath. So nice. Or a walk sometimes is just what I need.

  17. Thank you for the shout out girl!!! And also, thank you for your comment, it was so sweet. I’m SO SO glad that my post helped you out in any way. I struggle with the same thing.. it’s really hard when a part of your identity is taken from you. But we just have to remember that God knows best, he knows what he is doing. We can only see a small part of the picture while he paints the whole thing. Just hold on..
And I love that Bible verse, absolutely love it!

I do many of the same things to de-stress and calm down. Friends help for SURE! I also like to bake or go shopping or just go hang out at Barnes and Noble and relax with some coffee or a treat. Whatever works for you!

  18. cardiopizza says:

Blogging helps me destress because it allows me to focus on the topic I am writing and not the stressful things in my life!

    Shopping is another one…:)

  19. I love all of your ideas! Although….my number 9 beverage just might be a beer. Just maybe. 🙂

I’m going to watch that video when I get home….darn work computer!

  20. Oh! And my way to destress…pop in one of my favorite movies: Airplane!, Pride & Prejudice, Sense & Sensibility, Cruel Intentions, the Dark Knight….yes, I know – I am random.

  21. I would say “breathe”. I am a firm believe in the count to 10 rule.

  22. Kelly says:

LOVE IT! Sometimes for me a nap helps!!

  23. Katie says:

Oops! I realized my sister was using my laptop …and was signed in under her blog ‘passionate purpose’ ….That comment was really from me! 🙂 Sorry!

  24. If I am stressed out or angry, I usually have to work it out with some cardio or weights.

If I’m just really tired or sad, a nice warm bath helps.

Nice meeting you & I hope to see you around!

  25. I’m glad you found some way to chill! 🙂 Awww and I love baby laughs…always makes me smile!
A good gym session usually does it for me! But a good book, deep breaths and a hot cup of tea always relax me!

  26. inmytummy says:

I like to take a nice bath preferably with a book or magazine. Although, I inevitably drop the magazine in the bathtub, but that’s a different story.

  27. Melissa says:

#10 Pamper yourself with an at-home facial or manicure. Feeling prettier can lift your spirits.

I want to buy bottles of all 9 of your chill pills! 😉

  28. janetha says:

ah love this post! thanks for all the chill pills
