happy birthday to me!

Posted: August 23, 2010 at 11:00 am

Yep! It’s my birthday. It puts me in a good mood but doesn’t mean anything extraordinarily special. I woke up to a pile of dishes to be done in the sink because I was too tired last night. I was still up before the sun to kick off the day with a bit of productivity. I will still carry about my day as normal with a trip to the store and a kickboxing workout tonight. No big surprises awaited me when I came downstairs and likely won’t later today. I’m cool with all of that though and will still have a pep in my step because its my birthday, even if M threw the world's biggest temper tantrum this morning. And I get fro-yo today. 😀 Which means today’s birthday will likely fall somewhere in the middle of the two below.

MY BEST BIRTHDAYwould probably be two years ago. (picture below is June this year though)

Nothing too exciting happened. A group of our close friends, Peter, & I went to dinner at The Cheesecake Factory together. We hung around talking and laughing for a few hours. It was my first birthday in a long time that I didn’t fret about the calories I ate or judge my worth on how I felt I looked or the progress I made physically the last year. I lived in the moment. Simple, but fabulous.

MY WORST BIRTHDAY…came last year.

We had just finished a dinner at home with my parents and were putting M to bed. She had a high fever of 103+ but we were advised that’s normal for kids her age and to keep it down with Motrin overnight then bring her to the doc in the morning. That advice still irks me. When changing her clothes to put her to bed she got this weird daze on her face. Then her body went limp and we noticed she wasn’t breathing. She started turning blue around the mouth. I was freaking out! Thank God my mom was there and jumped into action to give her CPR. We had to race to the hospital, where we spent the next 4 nights treating our poor baby girl for a severe UTI that she had no signs of and likely would not have been diagnosed at the pediatrician because it is so rare at that age. I felt like the worst mother and cried and cried for fear of what could have happened. In fact, I think that is the worst day of my life so far.

I still get chills and tears in my eyes looking at these. Although the butt one is pretty cute. 😉

To end on a lighter note, I’ll include one humorous bday moment. My 21st birthday was a wreck! It was during my party days and I don’t remember this…but apparently I couldn’t step up into the van cab. I just kept walking right into it banging my shins. Then, on the way home I kept yelling to the driver about how horny I was. Not the proudest moment, but at least I can laugh on it looking back. I can’t believe I just told you that.

  • What’s your best, worst, craziest, etc birthday?

  4. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I hope it’s full of joy and merriment 😉 In terms of my own birthday story, I’m actually doing a guest post on Eating Journey soon about this very topic. I think the craziest birthdays are often the most memorable.

First, Happy Birthday!! Mine is tomorrow 🙂

Second….that sounds like the scariest experience ever you had last year! I would be a wreck! I’m glad you weren’t handling it all alone.

I have been so nervous for my baby throughout my pregnancy and keep saying I will feel better once he’s born….but I know I am going to continue to worry about every little sniffle and cough 🙂

  7. Lee says:

Happy Birthday Tina! I hope you have a wonderful day.

  8. Bree says:

  9. Becky says:

    I’m a little late…but it’s still your birthday – HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Birthdays are always nice, although very reflective days. I seem to spend time thinking back on my previous year. Most have been quite good, so I would say I’m pretty lucky.

    Hope your day was fabulous!

  10. Katie H. says:

Oh my gosh you poor thing (and poor M!!)- last year must have been so awful! Your 21st bday sounds a lot like mine 😀 I hope today was a great day for you.

  11. Ameena says:

Happy Birthday to you! I can’t imagine how terrible last year must have been. I had no idea that little kids could get UTI’s! That must have been terrifying. Thank God she is okay.

  12. Happy Bday to you!!!!!

I’ve had my share of the party days and have had some awes.. erhm.. carzy parties too 😀

  13. Kristy says:

I’m very hopeful this year went much better 🙂

  14. I’m late but HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

My 3 year old just squealed, “AWWWW LOOK AT THE LITTLE BABY TUSHIE!” lol 🙂

  15. Melissa says:

First, oh my God I love little M’s buh-bum!!!!!!! (And I totally mean that in a mommy way…there’s NOTHING like a chubby little soft baby bum!!!)

    Second, again, Happy Birthday!!!

Third, I would have DIED. I can’t imagine what I would have done had I seen that happen. Seriously, little Maddie landed in the ER after she fell from my MIL’s arms onto cement…and I rushed home (an hour away) at 95 mph, flashers going, BAWLING….you are one strong Momma, Tina. And poor little M and her little girlie stuff. 🙁 I hate when they can’t talk for one reason: they can’t tell you where the boo boos are. 🙁

  16. Jennifer says:

I missed your birthday I am so sorry! All I have been doing is making a post and then getting off the computer while on vacation. So happy late birthday! And if it’s any consolation, You were in my dream last night and you were helping me through a difficult time 🙂 You’re the greatest!

  17. Sarah says:

I am WAY behind on posts, but I still wanted to tell you- happy birthday, Tina! I hope you had a great time celebrating your life. You are truly a gift to this world:-).
