kennesaw mountain hike & dining with airplanes
Posted: September 20, 2010 at 1:00 pmCheck out today’s 30 Days post! Only 10 more days left in the series, which amazes me.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Shall I continue with my crazy busy Saturday now? I think yes! I like looking back on the weekend. It helps make Monday a little more bearable. Especially when you have numerous things to do, but no motivation to actually do them. I need a day of nothing. Yea. Like that will ever happen. 😉
So after spending a day among toddler lovebirds and birthday cake, we did something I have looked forward to since spring. A hike! I love visiting the many various mountains and trails in our area for family hikes. I hated that the heat this summer combined with pregnancy made it very difficult to get out for any. Even though the fall weather has recently taken a backseat to more summer temperatures, I was not willing to give up on our planned hike.
We visited Kennesaw Mountain for a short 3 mile trail hike. I loved every grueling, 90 degree temperature, steep and rocky uphill moment of that climb.
Hiking is one of my favorite fall activities! I can’t wait for more…which hopefully we will have the time to fit in with our steadily filling calendar.
After the hike, we picked up our friend’s wife who couldn’t go with us and headed out to dinner. After last week’s lesson, my only request was “not a chain”. Our friends picked out Elevation Chophouse, a restaurant situated on the hangar of a small, local airport.
We got to dine while watching planes taking off and landing. Extra perk? It entertained M better than her little backpack of books. Always a good thing.
For my dinner, I split the hummus plate with my friend and also ordered one of the jumbo all meat crab cakes with hot pepper jelly.
These were good! The hummus had the perfect creamy consistency with a slight lemony undertone. The veggies were on the pitiful side, but the black pepper lavash bread made up for them. The crab cake tasted better than some I’ve had at the beach. It truly was all meat. And I loved the kick from the pepper jelly.
The second half of Saturday was a huge success. Good food, good friends, a favorite activity? What more could I ask for.
- What was the best part of your weekend?
- What is your favorite fall activity? I love visiting the pumpkin patch, corn maze, Helen, and other places in the fall but overall hiking is #1. Well, it could be behind eating pumpkin inspired foods. 😀
I can’t believe there’s only ten days left of your self love series! Time has flown by!
I love hiking in the fall! The weather is so crisp and fresh 🙂
It has, hasn’t it?
That restaurant seems very cool and the food looks delicious-great pick!
Looks like you had a great hike!!!
i can not wait to visit Linvilla Orchards this fall and go pumpkin picking and take pics!!!
The best part of my weekend was spending time w/ my husband. We celebrated our 6th Wedding Anniversary! I also got to help with some cattle work and enjoy the company of family and good friends.
Congrats on 6 years!! And happy to hear you had a great weekend. 🙂
That food looks delicious!
That crab cake sounds delish! Glad you got to get a hike in. Hope your Monday goes well and you get some nice ‘do nothing’ time.
I love pepper jelly and a good crabcake is absolutely delicious!
My favorite part of fall is definitely the weather: the cool crisp air, slight breeze, I love it! I enjoy taking a walk with Jason during this time: wearing a hat and carrying a hot cup of tea!
It looks like a beautiful view! I moved this weekend, so that was my highlight! I’ve been loving this cooler weather, though today it got warm again. The leaves changing is probably my favorite thing of fall. 😉
Tina,
I have been meaning to leave you a comment for so long! I have been following your blog since you started it and followed your journal on O2 as well. I absolutely LOVE reading your posts…they are so well written and it often seems (especially with your 30 days,) that you are addressing so many things that are going on in my own life. I truly look forward to your postings every single day! You are a talented girl! Thanks for all you do (and please don’t doubt yourself!) You’re fabulous!!!
Thanks Michelle!! And how cool that you have kept up even from O2. That seems like a lifetime ago now. I feel blogging is much more my style. Thanks for commenting. You should do so more often. 🙂
I love hiking too! There are ZERO mountains in our area, but plenty of paved trails and foresty areas to walk around at. I love taking the puppy with us! I love that my boyfriend and I do active things together.
sounds like a great day & hike! I’d like to start hiking more; but we don’t have a ton of places to go around here 🙂
Looks like a great day- I love hiking and try to get as much in as I can during the summer/fall.
When I was younger my parents would always make us do one family fall hike- there were a solid 8 years or so where I complained all the way up the mountain only to be giddy at the top. They persisted, and now I fully plan on dragging my kids up mountains. Kudos on setting the example of enjoying the outdoors/exercise for your children!
I have been trying so hard to find a good hiking place around LA, but it seems I have to drive an hour before I even get close! Downfall to living in the city I guess.
The best part of my weekend was when the hubby came home. That and major froyo. Nothing beats that 😉
mmm crab cakes!!!
I do miss Kennesaw Mountain… I went on many wonderful hikes there with my mom back int he day 🙂
I love hiking! That view is amazing!!
My favorite part of the weekend was definitely the food and cooking festival I went to yesterday. It was incredible!!
So when you say 3 miles do you mean roundtrip? If so, I think I could do that! I’ll have to get Andrew to go with me!! That restaurant looks soooooo cool!!
Definitely round trip. There was no way I could handle 6 hiking! LOL
Glad you had fun despite the heat. This weekend was kind of brutal.
What airport is that restaurant at? (I know you’re not supposed to end a sentence with “at”, but I’m going to anyway!)
I don’t know what the name of it was but it was in Kennesaw. Peter thinks its McCollum Field or something?
Looks like a great hike!
For fall I love hiking and college football. Too bad it’s spring for me!
I bet that feels so weird to adjust to a different season. I didn’t even think of that!
I really want to visit the pumpkin patch or a corn maze this year! It’s just a matter of figuring out who I’m going to drag with me… 🙂
Haha! Corn mazes are so fun. And sometimes they even have haunted ones for Halloween. Maybe you could convince people then. 😉
Oh we’re itching to get out for a hike – our temps are back in the upper 90’s though. We may head out for a hike this weekend regardless. We’re going to Seattle to visit friends in a month and plan to do some hiking so we sort of need to get ready for it.
I love eating and watching airplanes. I used to go to this old airport with my dad for lunch and we had so much fun 🙂
