one tough workout

Posted: October 16, 2010 at 3:31 pm

You know how I said I wouldn’t have time to fit in workouts over the next few days? Well, I got one in today. I worked out for three hours! It took more energy than a run. Left me more exhausted than lifting weights in the gym. And I wanted to collapse on the couch more than after a ton of plyometrics. What did I do? Makenzie’s 2nd birthday party. That was one tough workout!

Please forgive me that I don’t have much mental capacity left after cake, keeping up with 40+ guests (half of which were under age 3), prepping all the food/favors/decorations, etc, etc, etc. I figure its easier to read photo posts on weekends anyways. So, here you go. A photo recap of little M’s second birthday!

I think that was the quickest post ever written. I know that is all I could manage today. I have to rest up. We’re leaving for the pumpkin patch and corn maze in an hour. No breaks for this momma!!!

  • Cake or ice cream? I was always an ice cream person until pregnancy. Now, cake all the way!
  • Do you like planning parties? I love the end result, but do not like the prep.

  1. Aww, looks like she had a lot of fun! I am definitely more of a cake person, and I really don’t like planning parties. I love attending them, though!

  2. Karen says:

Happy 2nd Birthday Makenzie! Love the Abby Cadabby cake!!

  3. Emily says:

You look absolutely gorgeous in the third picture. This looks like such a wonderful party; beautiful day and wonderful job!!! I have a tough one with the cake vs ice cream question because I am lactose intolerant. I would say sorbet all the way and I do really love angel food cake and vegan cupcakes 🙂 I love planning parties but it is definitely overwhelming. I think I like the success and glass of wine at the end 🙂

    • Tina says:

Oh would I have loved a glass of wine at the end! LOL I guess I get a glass of wine at the end of the 9 month party in my belly I’ve been hosting though. 😉

  4. I LOVE to plan parties… I love having my house full of my favorite people… I like ice cream and I like cake… I don’t think I LOVE either one…? now if you had said brownies… or if that cake is CHEESEcake.

    You look BEAUTIFUL !! 😀

  5. Looks like fun! And yah, I can imagine it would be quite exhausting. 🙂
Have fun at the pumpkin patch! I very seriously considered stopping at one on my way home from the grocery store today. If I wasnt by myself I totally would have gone.

  6. Wow what a great mom you are! Proud of you 🙂 Your daughter will look back on these photos and I’m sure get a glimpse of the sacrifices you make/made as a parent. Have a great weekend! And by the way, you look stunning in that pic!

  7. Lori Lynn says:

Looks like a fun, but chaotic day! 🙂 Hope you get some time to recuperate!

  8. Cake OR ice cream? I don’t wanna have to choose … 😉

If I have to, I’ll take cake.

Looks like a fun day. You’re creating memories for little M (and yourself).

  9. Sarah says:

Looks like a great party 🙂 Especially love the cake! M looks like she got some fun goodies too!!

I love the prep but the actual party stresses me out. I love to plan and prep but I get nervous on the actual day that I will run out of food, no one will have fun, etc.

Have fun at the corn maize!!

  10. seriously every time i serve with kids i get WORN OUT. i get so so tired with them! 🙂

  11. Looks like it was such a fun time! I ADORE her Abby cake – too cute!

    Happy Birthday M!

Oh an umm, can’t I have both cake AND ice cream? 🙂

  12. Marcia says:

    Happy Birthday Miss M!!

I love ice cream…..I usually skip the cake or have a tiny piece. Unless the icing is aawesome!

    I don’t plan any parties–eva! Sorry kiddies! 😉

  13. Lindsay says:

That’s totally a workout!! Happy Birthday to your sweetie pie! I’m totally a cake eater. It gets me every time.

  14. Robyn says:

    Tina
Looks like you had a nice day for a great party. The picts were fun. What a beautiful cake!

I like cake and I like icecream. Sometimes together. When my sister and I were growing up it was alway a “special” treat to get an icecream cake from DQ for our birthdays.

Hope you had fun at the Pupkin Patch and have a chance to relax after your busy day. 🙂

  15. Courtney F says:

I’m a cake “scrappins” fan. you know, all the left scraps from previous slices or from the slicing utensil. Yum

  16. Mackenzie’s is such an adorable birthday girl! I’m definitely an ice cream person. And I love to plan parties! I actually have my Bachelor’s degree in Event Planning. 🙂

  17. Jess says:

She’s such a cutie! I am definitely an ice cream person:)

  18. homecookedem says:

Looks like fun! What a pretty little birthday girl!! 🙂 I’m a cake person alllllllll the way!! 🙂

  19. Happy Birthday to your beautiful little girl! Looks like a good time was had by all! I am such an ice cream girl!!! I LOVE planning parties! I always have a great time planning and doing a party! Have a great Sunday Tina. I hope you get some rest time in!

  20. Lovely pictures Tina 🙂

I’m all about the cake – carrot cake, cheese cake, chocolate fudge cake – I love them ALL!

  21. Yeah sounds like a workout with all those kids! Looks like a great time, hope you have fun at the pumpkin patch. More “living” workouts 🙂

  22. I love cake (err…frosting), ice cream, AND planning parties! The party looks adorable and that cake is killer.

  23. Kelly says:

I used to be an ice cream girl only as a kid but as I have gotten older I prefer cake…but only certain kinds. I am kind of a cake snob….

  24. Lee says:

ice cream cake. best of both worlds.

  25. looks like you had a MOST incredible day (and a mighty fine workout)!!! I’m so glad. : )

Ice cream all the way baby. I have a little pint in our fridge that I try to make last about 2 weeks. A little here and there is what I need!

  26. ashleigh says:

What a lucky girl Makenzie is.. looks like a great day!

Cake or ice cream? Can I have both?? 🙂

  27. Jess says:

Um. All I can say is that you are a SAINT for hosting such a huge birthday party!!! It looks like it was a fantastic day for it though and your little M is an absolute DOLL!!

    • Tina says:

We have a LOT of family, good friends from church, and friends from playgroup and we all have little kids. It adds up quick! It was so much fun though and felt like such a blessing to be surrounded by so many wonderful people.

  28. Neither – I just like cookies!

  29. caronae says:

Happy birthday to Makenzie! And the answer to the first question is “ice cream cake.” 🙂

  30. Happy bday M! She looks so cute, and you look radiant and beautiful as always! I’m 100% an ice cream person.

  31. Leashieloo says:

Aw, it looks like it was a glorious day. Happy birthday to your little one! And for me, it depends on what kind of cake and what kind of ice cream, though they are heavenly paired!

  32. Beautiful birthday party pictures! When is her actual bday? Maybe we have the same one!

    •Cake or ice cream?
    CAKE!!

    •Do you like planning parties?
For the most part, yes. It stresses me out sometimes but when I plan in a nice, organized manner I enjoy it!

  33. Cynthia says:

Looks like a really fun party. I am more of a cake person. Occasionally, I am in the mood for ice cream but not always.

And I hate the prep for a party! The end result is great . . . but the prep, not so much. 🙂

  34. Mellissa says:

Happy Birthday to M, I can’t believe shes 2 already! Time goes so fast.

    • Tina says:

I know!!! And you’ve seen her grow up through it all since you were around when I was posting on O2 about heading to the hospital later in the afternoon. How crazy!

  35. NICE workout, girlfriend! Keeping up your endurance, whaaat 😉
    Happy birthday M!!!

  36. Ela says:

    Happy birthday to M!

Those are the best kind of workouts, aren’t they? It sounds like you had a great time too. I love planning parties usually, feel like I can get a real groove on.

Can’t do gluten or dairy, but am def. more an ice-cream type of girl…

    love
    Ela

  37. Eden says:

Ice cream, for sure, then again, i never got preggers so we’ll talk after that happens!

and I cant stand prep! it stresses me out!
Hope no one got lost in the corn maze!

  38. Ice cream!

Planning parties is fun — as long as I have a “committee” — I feel too much pressure when I try to do it alone.

    What a fun party!

  39. […] to back things up and recap a very special part of our weekend. Of course, it does not compare to M’s 2nd birthday festivities, but it still is a special time I want to share. Starting October 2008, while M was in utero, we […]

  40. Sara says:

How do you exercise like that while pregnant? Wow! I am not pregnant and I can’t exercise that long. I guess I get bored … with time …

    • Sara says:

Oh and M = very cute. I love her blonde hair and beautiful smile and cheeks! So cute. And what an awesome birthday cake! I guess I like ice cream better too, but really, I’m a pie person.

  41. Thanks for sharing this blog. Nice post.

  42. Before I met my hubby, I HATED ice cream. Now, I’m picky, but I definately don’t hate it anymore. 😉 Growing up, I was a frosting person (omit the cake – haha!). Now, I’m the opposite… give me the cake w/just a hint of frosting… too much sugar makes me gag now. Weird how our tastebuds sometimes grow up right along w/us.

As far as party planning goes… I LOVE IT!!! Before having my DD, I was an Assitant Event Planner at a local catering company… food + planning events = heaven! Too bad the company didn’t know how to treat their employees. Boo 🙁

I’m in the process of planning my daughter’s 4th GOLDEN tea birthday party… complete w/70-some guests! I can’t wait!
