to facebook fan page or no?

Morning! I hope you all slept better than I did last night. I don’t know what kept me up because I didn’t feel too uncomfortable for once. I just couldn’t sleep. Thank goodness for things like this to greet me in the morning.

IMGP8596

A sample of caramel cream coffee I received on my retreat a couple weekends ago. I wish you all could smell the fabulousness!

I needed that coffee because I had a lot to get done this morning. My parents and sister will arrive this afternoon to stay the night and spend the first half of Thanksgiving together…before we leave for dinner with Peter’s family. Oh, yes. We do two Thanksgivings in one day.

I may have extra time during the day now that I go to the gym in the afternoon, but lately I have spent it doing this…

IMGP8598

Still cleaning, organizing, sorting, storing a ton of stuff to set up the kiddo’s stuff before baby B arrives. That’s all fine and dandy, but it means regular upkeep and cleaning has been slacking. You all know how it goes – before company arrives, complete a quick and massive cleaning. Yep. That was my morning!

IMGP8519

And yep, I loathe our tile. I vacuumed, mopped, dusted, cleaned bathrooms, organized random things on the counters, scrubbed, windexed, laundered, and so on all morning long. That was my workout for the day! Whew. It reminded me why I prefer little bursts of cleaning, which I haven’t done in so long. I would much rather complete one task a day to make cleaning more manageable. Yet, I always forget that and end up running around doing too much at once.

Maybe once I finish with all the baby stuff I can use that time to get back into a better routine. Who am I kidding? I will probably end up distracting myself some other way to cherish any spare time I have before he arrives. Like with making a Faith Fitness Fun Facebook page.

I have toyed with the idea for a long time and actually even have the bones of one started. I always chicken out though on finishing it - wondering would it really be worth it and would people actually be interested? I guess at the very least it would stop bombarding all of my personal account friends with posts from the blog since I update them there for the handful who use that as their way to subscribe. And it could also reach out to those who don’t use Twitter or prefer Facebook over their Readers. Decisions decisions affected by my love of social media.

  • Which way do you like getting updates from blogs? Do you rely solely on Reader? Do you like things like Twitter or Facebook? Do you just check your favorite blogs by memory when you have time?
  • How do you handle your household cleaning? Do you do one big clean less often, or lots of smaller jobs regularly?

  1. I created a Facebook fan page a while back and think it’s a good way to separate your personal and blogging lives (even when those are very intertwined!). I believe that even for bloggers who allow readers into their lives via the blog, there is still a need for a healthy separation and a separate fan page can help with that. I personally really like getting updates via twitter, facebook, and readers from people. That way if I miss one, another avenue will remind me to go read something awesome!

  2. I like the idea of a facebook page. I prefer communicating over facebook vs. twitter (as evidence, you can look at the last time I actually tweeted something). Plus, it’s easier for other people to see what I like and what I’m reading on facebook. I suppose that might be an issue for some who would prefer to keep the list of blogs that they read private, but I’m sure only a few people would feel that way. I say go for it!

  3. I think you should do a FB page. You have tons of followers! I usually get most of my updates with google reader, but love seeing them first in twitter or FB too.

  4. aw, i actually like the tile! i would do anything to have some color in our kitchen, even blue tile 🙂 and let me know what you decide on the facebook fan page…i’m considering it too but i dont’ want to do it just to do it!

    • Tina says:

That’s exactly how I feel. I only want to make one if I think it would provide some benefit to my friends/readers/etc and myself. I don’t want to do it just because it’s the “cool thing to do”. The more I think of it, the more I feel it could serve a purpose but I feel bad being like “Hey subscribe to my blog, follow me on Twitter, and like my page!!!” Probably silly, but I’m sure you get what I’m saying. 😉

  5. Yes, do a facebook page — I sometimes check facebook more often than other areas, so it is nice to know when new post is going to pop up. I’ll become a fan 🙂

I love your blue tile in the kitchen!!! we have boring old tan countertops.

  6. I am a complete Google Reader girl for blogs! I think the question is, will you have the time and desire to update the Facebook page?

  7. Camille says:

What I did, which I like much more than the fan page, is just created an account with Networked Blogs on FB and have it attached to my regular FB. I tried to make a fan page but it was just a total pain in the butt. Maybe someday when I am feeling especially patient 🙂

    • Tina says:

I have done that and those posts do go to my personal account. I feel badly like I am spamming some of my friends/family who may not want to read the blog. Also, I don’t accept just anyone on my personal account, so the “fan page” (I hate the word fan) would be more public and something that friends/family could still get updates if they wish. It is a pain, huh? LOL

  8. Kelly says:

I am old school. I have my favorite blogs tagged as favorites and I just go through and check them daily. But I only have 10 or so that I check so it is manageable for me to do it that way.

  9. I read all blogs in my google reader. I like to see things on Twitter, but I’m not a big tweeter. Don’t know a lot of people though… still new to blog world as a blogger. As for Facebook, there’s no way in the world I have time to maintain it. Blogging is not my full time job, and I just can’t commit to even more places to update. It’s difficult enough to find time, but adding more is not good.

  10. I vote for FB! I use that and memory to stay up on my favorites. I can’t get into Reader… maybe I’m missing something?

  11. I have a FB page because I wanted to separate my personal page and like you, was always posting updates on there and thought it might be annoying to some of my FB friends who weren’t interested in my health blog (you know, like my great uncle. :-))
I am much more comfortable with FB than Twitter. I don’t get Twitter at all.
For cleaning, I try to keep to my cleaning schedule. I have one room/task that I complete each day to keep it more manageable. Sometimes I get behind and end up having a big cleaning day like you though!

  12. lindsay says:

I think I like twitter a little better just because of privacy. I love it when people tweet their posts as well.
I am a clean a little each day girl. Too much too soon overwhelms me. eek! Your kitchen looks spic and span!

I am off to mop and then clean our bathrooms as well.
    Happy Cleaning!

  13. I’m still a Reader girl– no facebook or twitter for my blog! I try to keep things as simple as possible.

Cleaning– ugh. I do the EXACT same thing! I always mean to keep up with little bursts of cleaning, but never do, and then I have to do a total overhaul of the house when company comes over.

    Enjoy your family time!!

  14. Lori Lynn says:

I try to my lighter cleaning on the weekends, and then doing a bit more “heavier” cleaning (the bathrooms!) every 2 weeks, but sometimes it gets a little tricky when I’m gone on the weekends!

  15. Becca says:

Just my two cents: I hang out on Facebook all day if possible. 🙂 No Twitter for me. I mean, it’s cool, but it’s an incredibly “primitive” Facebook. It’s nice, but … I dunno. I’m still debating, both personally and blog-wise. I know people who use Twitter, I just haven’t gotten into it.
I usually just go by memory. I have a couple of blogs favorite-d, but mostly it’s by memory or the list I have on my blog of other blogs to visit. Or by the memory in my drop-down URL box. 😛

Cleaning? Oh, I should maybe do that… My mom left me a note this morning that all of my junk needs to be out of the living room by tomorrow when company comes, but with the crappy weather we’re having, we might not even have people over! 🙁 Still. I clean when I get the urge, or when my parents tell me to. Or when my laundry hamper is full, lol! My parents put my clothes back in the hamper all folded and expect me to put it away. I usually don’t, at least not until the new pile of dirty clothes gets in my way. Hah. Oops. I just don’t like cleaning!! But now that my “bedroom” is a corner of the basement and I’ve got the door to the storage room two feet from my bed, I need to get better about cleaning. Otherwise we’re tripping over stuff… (Which we do all the time in my sister’s room because her floor is never visible!)

  16. Angela says:

I definitely prefer my blog updates to be via Twitter and Google Reader. I have all my university friends and family etc on Facebook, but I tend to keep anything blog-related to Twitter.

Nice job on your kitchen cleaning – it’s sparkling!! I like having a clean kitchen but I use it A LOT for cooking so it doesn’t always stay that way for long! Mine usually gets tackled on the weekend – typically a Saturday job!

  17. I just check by memory! And bookmark blogs for when I have more time, I’ll read those plus my usuals! I like the smaller cleaning method! I didn’t do it this weekend and was going to Monday but realized I’d need to clean tonight and tomorrow anyway! So I waited!

  18. I know I don’t follow any bloggers on Facebook, I just don’t use FB that much in general. I have exactly zero interest in making a FB for my blog except that I definitely want to keep my personal one personal without hurting anyones’ feelings. I can see the merit in it that way, but I just loathe the thought of actually making one. I get my updates through Reader, which is open all the time on my desktop, and I really appreciate the feeds that have a link to the comments at the bottom of the post so I can easily get to the page to comment. That’s the most helpful thing I’ve come across so far.

    • Tina says:

I love the comment link in Reader too. I am not sure how to add it. I keep trying to figure it out. I now use the Next button for Reader though and its soooo nice. You don’t have to click out. It just scrolls through the blogs you subscribe to’s actual site. You know that though…I’m pretty sure I remember you saying you use it before?

  19. Karen says:

I prefer Google Reader and Twitter for blog updates. I keep Facebook for strictly personal use.

For cleaning, hubby and I split the chores. He cleans the main floor and I clean the upstairs. We split up and do it together on a Saturday morning before we start anything else for the day. Since we double team it it’s not too bad of a time commitment. We do light touch ups during the week as needed.

  20. Mandy says:

My 2 cents… I am never on twitter. Always on facebook 😉 So I either see something on FB or go by memory to those blogs I like to browse 🙂

  21. Nichole says:

I hear ya on the 2 turkey days – but it will fly by and I’m sure everyone is dying to see you:)

I could not keep up with everything AND Facebook, worst case – you could marry more of your personal page with your site? dunno – your call for sure:)

  22. 2 Thanksgivings in one day?! Wow – you’re going to be full. 🙂

I put my favorites on my blog with the most recent at top – I don’t do reader. It makes me sad because I can’t comment as easily!

For cleaning I rely on a housekeeper – but we divide laundry/dishes between and Austin!

  23. Melie says:

I prefer to use google reader to check if my favorite blogs have new updates. I generally do not like pages on facebook, especially not ones with frequent updates and many comments because I feel that they clog my wall. I have not liked any of the blogs that have done this. But if you do create a fb page, I will like yours! 🙂

  24. Lee says:

I mostly use reader. Facebook and Twitter are blocked at work, so I have to use them from my phone which is kind of a pain.

  25. […] This post was mentioned on Twitter by Tina Reale, Tina Reale. Tina Reale said: to facebook fan page or no?: Morning! I hope you all slept better than I did last night. I don’t know what kept … http://bit.ly/fc5vJr […]

  26. I use reader. I feel weird asking people to be my “fan” on Facebook.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family Tina!

  27. Emily says:

Hopefully you got your second and third wind of energy today!! I was totally dragging all day, and still am, hoping I recover for tomrrow!! As for blogging I rely on twitter and my reader to stay updated…I’ve started reading too many blogs to keep up with them any other way! Don’t be scared to do the FB page…I hope to get there someday too!

  28. […] my major overhaul cleaning this morning and debating the Facebook page, I set out for a very nice day. First up I had my 8 month appointment at the doctor’s office. […]

  29. i vote make the page. I made one for mine! then i just try to get people to “like” it if they want to get the recipe links in their news feed. people seem to really like it and it definitely makes it easier to separate from your personal page and keep all your blog links together! go for it!! don’t be scared. i bet you’ll be surprised by all the interest you get!

  30. I rely solely on reader to get my blog updates, but I did create a facebook fan page for my blog. I think its good for people who don’t have reader and don’t want to be constantly checking your site to see if you’ve updated. It’s also good publicity because every time someone “likes” your page, more people find out about your site! It’s free, its easy, so there’s really no harm in setting one up.

    • Tina says:

Those are all really good points! Thanks! I may try to finish setting mine up when I have some downtime this weekend. Have a great day!
