5 reasons pregnancy rocks on thanksgiving

Posted: November 25, 2010 at 3:03 pm

I know many posts around the blog world will focus on the traditional “things I am thankful for” topic. I certainly agree with many of those statements. I too feel incredibly thankful and blessed for my family, friends, health, safety, God, food, etc. I want to share a different set of thanks. I finally found some reasons to be thankful for this pregnancy…besides the whole baby blessing at the end. Read my top 5 and be jealous. Oh, so very jealous. 😀

1. Stretchy maternity pant waist bands. ‘Nough said. I don’t have to feel uncomfortable after eating my Thanksgiving meal. Neener neener neener.

2. I can call cooking my work out. Being on my feet a good part of the day helping prepare food or play with the kiddo totally counts as a full fledged workout at 8 months pregnant. Yes, yes it does! All you Turkey Trotters ain’t got nothing on me!

3. No comments from the peanut gallery on how much I eat. With everyone eating way more than normal I don’t have to hear statements like “Oh, Braedon must be hungry with as much as you’re eating” or “How can you fit all that in there?” or “I never see you eat this much”. Yes, I hear things like that time to time. They shut it on Thanksgiving.

4. Dishes, what dishes? Remember how hard I worked to help cook? No one expects a pregnant lady to do the dishes too. “Put your feet up and rest”. Don’t mind  if I do. And, honey? The decorations need to come down for tomorrow, too. 😉

5. That crazy appetite is going towards something more important. At least some of the excess calories will go towards his growth and not only the growth of my behind, hips, or thighs.

I hope my little IN JEST thankful post gave you a little giggle. For those celebrating, remember to keep the day joyful. Focus on loved ones and forget about any guilt, worry, frustration. One day won’t throw off your healthy lifestyle. Yet, one day can give you many beautiful memories. Focus on those and not the calories.

  • Instead of the age old “what are you thankful for” question, I instead ask what memory will you create today? Whether celebrating or not…make a memory today you can smile over. 🙂

  1. I love this post. I’m forwarding it to a few VERY pregnant friends who need a giggle.

Today I’m making a memory by continuing to build traditions that are just for Hunni and me. Turkey Trots, easy food and the movies. They are our traditions and we love them.

  2. Angela says:

Woohoo for stretchy pants!! Pregnant or not! I’m in Canada, but today I’m celebrating US Thanksgiving by having dinner with some co-workers, and I’m creating a memory of getting to know them better. Have a lovely day Tina! 🙂

  3. lindsay says:

gotta love the stretchy pants! Now sit back and relax! well deserved. 😉

  4. Jealous of the stretchy pants thats for sure!!

We already had our Canadian Thanksgiving, but Im totally feeling the spirit all over again!

  5. Anna says:

My memory today is hosting my parents for thanksgiving and giving them a chance to relax after working so hard the last few weeks on their new home.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  6. I need to borrow your maternity pants. Oy.

This year I am visiting my sister and it is our first celebration away from home. So we created our own meal, cooked everything, and created a bunch of new traditions while still honoring our parents. It was really sweet and a lot of fun.

Oh, we also ran a Turkey Trot 5k! I completely intend to make that an annual tradition.

I hope you have a great day with your family. Happy Thanksgiving!

    • Tina says:

I’m already thinking how fun a Turkey Trot would be to run next year. I wonder if there is one local enough to fit into our crazy day? It would be such a fun tradition though!

Glad you had such a great time with your sister. 🙂

  7. Tiffany S says:

You totally make me want to get pregnant… ASAP! 🙂 You are so adroable!

  8. Happy Thanksgiving, Tina! I think wearing stretchy pants should be a rule for everyone on Thanksgiving! Half the guilt comes from clothes feeling too tight… 🙂 I hope yours is blessed and filled with many happy memories!

  9. Camille says:

Today my boyfriend and I went on a lovely 3 hour walk, enjoyed a fabulous lunch/dinner (aka linner) and watched Predators. A classic Thanksgiving movie?
Now we have a date with a bottle of wine. Great. Day.

  10. Happy Thanksgiving!! Yes, those are definitely good points!

  11. Astrid says:

We re continuing our tradition of having an Arby’s dinner after a nice Thanksgiving lunch. I also made a nice traidion start today by bring a Puerto Rican dessert to Thanksgiving. I made a jelly roll with guava jelly in it and everyone adored it! That made me feel good. Next year I will bring something different a new. It’s nice to depart from traditional dishes (in my opinion).
People shouldn’t tease you about the food you eat! You are eating for 2! And you take care of yourself and look fantastic!

  12. laura says:

Im in Canada so my thanksgiving has past, but im greatful nonetheless! I get to enjoy the beautiful winter-wonderland surrounding me. 🙂
    happy turkey day!

    love stretchy wait pants<3

  13. Wonderful post! You look gorgeous.

  14. Thanks for the smiles girl. Hope it was a great day for you. I know that I will remember today as a special one spent with family. I love getting to see my niece and nephew with my dad. Reminds me so much of spending time with my grandfather at that age.

  15. Becca says:

This was J (exchange student)’s first Thanksgiving, and she said next year maybe she’ll make Thanksgiving dinner for her family! =)
We spent the afternoon with about 12-15 from my mom’s side, which is kinda new—normally we don’t do a whole lot, but this year we hosted! And I had fun. I got to play with a three-year-old and spent probably an hour holding a six-month-old! (The girls are sisters.) 😀
    Four hours well spent. 🙂

  16. I like your take on this! I went to Thanskgiving at my friends familys house so since I was a stranger no one would remark about how much I ate (verbally at least)

  18. We had our fourth annual feast at our church. Those either far from family or who just want to spend time with more people gather at the church for a pot luck of traditional and non-traditional foods followed by games. We were there for almost 5 hours. It was so much fun!

I both did and did not focus on calories. I ate what I wanted and now that I am adding up the calories my heart is having palpitations! 😉

  19. NYCPatty says:

AWESOME post! Glad you had a great Thanksgiving!

  20. katie says:

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  22. I love that you got out of the dishes 🙂 that’s a BIG deal on TG day! lol

hope you guys had a lovely day!

  23. I hope you had an absolutely wonderful Thanksgiving!! Yesterday a memory I created was talking to my cousin. We were never close growing up, but now that we’re older I’m coming to value her friendship more and more.

  24. Heather says:

this is enough for me to try to be preggo on Thanksgiving next year…or breast feeding since you need to eat more then, right?!?! 🙂

  25. Ela says:

Happy thanksgiving! I love this lighthearted message and hope you did get to put your feet up after all the prep work. Way to go on finding so many bright sides to look on.

I’d say that the memory we created yesterday was of the simple pleasure of being back home, with sweet, kind people whom we care about so much and can feel that they feel the same way. A precious thing.

    love
    Ela

  26. Since we just got engaged last month, there was so many people in my family that said they were thankful for my fiance becoming a part of our family/

It was so special and unique to this year. By this time next year, we’ll be married!
