Growing Up

Posted: December 5, 2010 at 4:25 pm

It feels like we went through all the life stages on Saturday. We started with the pregnancy/newborn stage during our tour of the fabulous hospital. I still can’t get over how NICE it is!

After the tour, we entered the childhood years. Our little town had a Christmas parade down one of the main streets. We had the chance to act like kids again with little M.

This year blew last year’s parade out of the water. There were so many floats! From snowmen to the Grinch to Santa to holiday angels to birthday cakes for Jesus. I like seeing that. It always makes me smile when a little reminder pops up.

Makenzie started off pretty tired since she had to miss her nap for the parade…

…but she quickly got into it when she saw people passing out lollipops and Chick Fil A cows riding by. The kid loves dressed up characters. I hope that bodes well for when Santa visits her kiddie holiday party in a couple weeks.

All in all we had a great time. I sometimes think I have more fun than her!

We decided to grow up a bit for Saturday night. We had a special party to attend – our friend’s surprise 40th birthday party!

His birthday is not until the very end of the year, so he had no clue. I loved the shock on his face! And his reaction was priceless. I know I would have felt the same way seeing a group of loved ones all in one place. But I’ll share a nicer picture of him with some of the ladies instead. 😉

Over the course of the evening I had so much fun sipping my water while eyeing my friend Cory’s famous sangria. Have I mentioned I miss wine? Oh, yea. I have. I did get to munch on a few snacks…

…plus more fruit and some cake. I wish my friend Angie and I had gotten a picture of the cake’s aftereffects. Black icing = attractive teeth. And without a doubt, I spent a large chunk of the night laughing and chatting. It never fails that a gathering with our group of friends makes for a fabulous night. Even when I have to check out early at 10 with some body aches. I had fun though and that’s all that matters.

  • How was your weekend? Any nice acts for others in the mix?
  • Would you ever want a surprise party? I would LOVE a surprise party, but I know Peter could never manage putting one together. He admits it.

Looks like your Saturday was a full day filled with fun. I spent my Saturday with a couple of friends making food, visiting and laughing until we couldn’t breath. Those are the best type of days 🙂

  2. Looks like you had a GREAT Saturday! 🙂 Makenzie is so cute!

This weekend I sang at an arts market downtown with my school choir and then shopped around. I also had a friend in town so we went and saw Tangled. Now I’m studying for my finals this week, but I am losing motivation with the holidays so near!

I would love a surprise party! I have thrown them for friends in the past, but have never had one of my own!

  3. I had a surprise party for the 16th and loved it! But I’m not sure I would like it as much now- but maybe!

  4. I love surprises, so I know I would love a surprise birthday party! Actually, for my bridal shower in PA I knew what date it was but I didn’t know the location — so it was half surprise and totally fun showing up blindfolded to my shower!

That does sound like fun. I just love surprises in all ways! Small like if Peter ever brings home a little gift. Or big things. Too bad the big things are usually hard to pull over on me.

  5. Astrid says:

I would love a surprise party, too. But like Peter, Stephen could never manage doing that either. He is pretty horrible at surprises. Any type of surprises. He would rather be told what to do!

  6. Krist says:

Don’t you love Christmas parades? We went to one on Saturday, and I love how it really started feeling like Christmas, and I love seeing all the people out.

  7. Sounds like a good day! Glad the parade turned out to be so good. I’ve had a great weekend – thus it has flow by!

  8. Ela says:

Maybe one day when your kids have grown up, they’ll throw you a surprise party!

Sounds like a fun, low-key, mellow day.

We have sun and snow this w/e, and it is beautiful. Hanging with friends and family, thinking about Christmas purchases – so much to love!

  9. Sounds like a fun day! That’s so neat that the parade featured birthday cakes for Jesus. 🙂

I would be missing wine too, but not much longer! I love christmas parades and watching the kids eyes light up. Makes my day! Makenzie looks adorable.

Sounds like a great weekend! My weekend was amazing – it was full of relaxing!

  12. Heather says:

the weekend’s been good since i got over being sick! that would have made for a very sad weekend indeed…

  13. Tatianna says:

Wow! What an extravagant looking cake 🙂
I remember going to the santa clause parade in my town every single year when I was a kid. It was a total tradition to sip on hot chocolate while we waited, and than come home with bags of candy canes that were thrown into the crowd.

  14. What a fun day! I had a surprise 16th birthday party, but I actually hated it because I don’t like surprises or being the center of attention…I’d told my parents not to let my friends throw me one, but they did anyway!! It was a nice gesture though…and I remember the cake was fabulous 🙂

  15. I LOVE surprises. Unfortunately, my husband does not. He claims he threw one for me one year, but seeing as it involved me cooking and decorating for people I knew were coming over…not so much.

  16. Sounds like you had a great weekend Tina! Doing the hospital tour definitely makes things more real and exciting.

I am not much into surprise parties at least for myself. I do not like attention on me, so it kind of embarrasses me. They are always fun to go to though!

  17. Becca says:

I dont know if I’d like a surprsie party…. okay, who am I kidding, I’d LOVE one… My dad alawyas arranges them for my mom and somehow she is always so surprised! He even had me fly home and surprise her at work for her birthday this year!
