TEN!!!
Posted: September 3, 2011 at 10:00 amI. Ran. Ten. Miles!!!! Reaching that double digit milestone feels oh so good.
And the run itself didn’t feel half bad either!
I woke up while it was still pitch black dark outside and grumbled for not forcing myself to bed earlier last night. How time leaps so suddenly from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm I will never know. It’s mighty hard waking up so early to eat even when you aren’t hungry. But fuel is most important for long runs, so chow down I will!

Then, after chilling, digesting, and using Twitter to motivate me for an hour, I finally laced up, started my Garmin, strapped on the Spibelt, and took off.
And I survived!
No, really…I survived. Running ten miles was the easy part of this run, it seemed.
When I got to the running path, I opted to go a different direction than my normal route to have some different scenery. This part of the running pathway is a little older and mostly made up of “boardwalks”.
Boards + running = not safe for this klutzo. I tripped six times on my run. I’m thankful I didn’t sprain an ankle and only came out with my confidence bruised a bit.
Although the tripping wasn’t quite as embarrassing as what happened towards the end of my run. After 7.5 miles, things started to get a bit hotter and I went for a big gulp of my water. Note to self: only small sips work while I’m on the move.
The water ended up going down the wrong pipe and left me splurting and coughing with water gushing out of my nose. I should have taken a bow for the show I gave all the other runners passing by.
So, despite almost choking to death (dramatic much?) or almost taking a face plant numerous times, I survived the run and felt on top of the world as I walked back to my car.
See what my shirt says? It most definitely is.
- What time did you wake up this morning?
- Are you a klutz?

Congrats on your run!! I just did 4 miles today– the longest in 2 years! Feels good, doesn’t it?? 🙂
Woo! Congrats to you too! 🙂
Hmmmm. Mrs. Tina. You need to rephrase the title of this post. You ran 10.01. Congrats! That’s a big accomplishment.
Wahoo! what an accomplishment! I slept in today and got out of bed at 8! Your shirt does say it all…where did you find that gem?
It’s one I made through Spreadshirt. I actually have the shirts I made for myself available to you all as well (just because people asked…not because I expect people to buy them). But if you’re really interested you can find it here:

Yay! I remember having that accomplishment three years ago when I was training for my first ever half marathon! Now, I’m in training for my third (this Nov. in Chickamauga, GA) and just had to run 8 miles today, meaning I had to get up while dark out as well since we had a Church Choir Christmas Kick-off Brunch (say that 10 times fast!) at 10:30! So, this am, I had to be at the park running by 7! UGH…fueling is key though, and therefore worth it! Next Saturday is my scheduled 10-miler and I’m not looking forward to waking in the dark again! Good job on your accomplishment and keep up the good work! Also, in the future, the Chickamauga Battlefield Half (and whole) Marathon is one of the most beautiful races! It’s quiet, cool, and there are deer everywhere!
I was going to ask – where exactly IS Chichamauga and when is the race? I’d be interested!
Chickamauga is in the Northwest corner of GA, just south of Chattanooga. It’s at the foot of Lookout Mountain – amazing views!!!
I just looked at the website for it and it is sold out! 🙁
Good grief! I can’t believe it’s already sold out! Well, it’s every year around the 12th of Nov. (my oldest’s birthday!). Chattanooga has one every February (toward the end of the month, I think?) called the Scenic City Half Marathon. This past February it was on the 26th. It’s pretty too – downtown, bridges over the TN river, surrounded by mountains…I don’t know if they’ve set next year’s date yet though.
NICE WORK!! The first time I hit 10 miles during half training is such a great feeling, no matter if it was my first half marathon or my second. It feels like a huge accomplishment! nice job, and glad you didn’t trip too badly and fall!
Congratulations! You are awesome!
You are just rocking these runs, girl! Seems like just yesterday you were doing C25K again – you’re such an inspiration!
I have my first 10 since April scheduled for tomorrow morning. Hope I feel as good as you afterwords!
Congratulations! That is such a great accomplishment. I have yet to run double digits but I’m super proud of you. I am a total Klutz! I actually spilled tea all over the table at a restaurant today and on my mom and myself. Then I tripped 3 times at the mall and over myself and a curb. This was all in a span of 2 hours. I woke up around 8:30 this morning. Lately, that’s sleeping in for me!
AMAZING!!! congrats tina!
I’m pretty new to your blog and love it. This post made me laugh out loud. I’m a total clutz, too, and can trip over nothing. 😉 Awesome job on your run; I just started the Couch to 5K because I just wanted to be able to run a 5K without walking. This week, we had to run for 8-min straight and I was dying. After introducing the 8-min run once, the plan jumped to running for 20-mins straight. Yeah, right! 😉 I’m on the slow plan. 😉
I remember that 8 min to 20 min jump and it was so killer!!! Couch to 5K is such a great plan!
And thanks for saying hi! 🙂
I woke up at 5:36, but my alarm was set for 6:00. Yes, I am a klutz. I once missed a curb and ended up with a hole in my knee. I didn’t want to walk home–that would take too long. So I ran with blood dripping down my leg. (Not much, really, but it looked impressive!). Congrats on your run–that’s really fast for your first 10 miler!
WAY TO GO! That’s an amazing accomplishment, miss! Proud of you!
Yay for hitting the double digits! Way to get out there and dominate!
Congrats on 10!
Good for you.
Just for getting up that early!
haha I am also super clumsy, and I also ran 10 miles today! Woke up just before 7am, started running at 8.
[…] TEN!!! […]
Congrats!!!! I once tripped and completely face planted on a dirt trail underneath an overpass. Hopefully the drivers were focusing on the road and not the elegant runner who went bottoms up below. I kept on running and felt oddly proud and kinda hardcore.
Can’t wait to read about your next PDR! 🙂
Congrats on the double digit mileage!!
YAYYAYAYAYAYAYAYYAYYAY!!!
[…] And the kid has suddenly developed this new sense of adventure. Even a few months ago, she would freak out climbing up the stairs of a playground or going down the slide. Now, I have to make sure she doesn’t fall through the holes of rope ladders. It would inevitably happen. Kid has my klutzo genes. […]
