30 days of self love – confidence

Posted: September 1, 2010 at 8:00 am

Welcome to the 30 Days of Self-Love Reflections (30 DSLR for short)!!!! For those of you just stumbling across my site and this movement, the 30 DSLR is to bring a positive change into each of our lives one day at a time. Each day will feature a new topic and message to reflect on and motivate positivity throughout your day and, hopefully, beyond. I look forward to everyone’s participation and the growth it will bring us! Here we go! 😀

**************************

When trying to decide what topic would best suit the start of 30 DSLR only one thing came to mind. Confidence. Confidence portrays so much beauty and strength, yet somehow always seems just out of reach to achieve. Why? Because we don’t believe we deserve it or fail to see what we have to feel confident about.

That’s right. We each have something in which to lay confidence. All of us have unique strengths and qualities that we should not ignore or gloss over, but instead lift up into the light and proclaim as our own with pride and joy. Those things which we can take ownership of in confidence come in many shapes and sizes. You can see it in your mad cooking skills, your ability to make others laugh and laugh with them, your giving of love for a friend/spouse/child, your ability to push your body in a workout, your smile, your good sense of style, your mind and ability to problem solve, your compassion on others, your go with the flow demeanor…ANYTHING!

[Source]

Do not forget your strengths by focusing on weaknesses, because we all have those too. BUT those do not define us. Our strengths define us. Something else to remember. You are stronger than you think. You may not believe so, but you have the power to change everything. You have the power to turn your life into something beautiful. You are reading this post and stepping out to love yourself more, then in turn love others more, and then have the potential to change the world. Yes, YOU! Each of us have that power and simply moving, or even desiring to move, towards a positive place speaks volumes.

Be confident in what you can do! Trust in yourself and the changes YOU can make and that can happen in you. We all start somewhere. I did too. I knew I couldn’t keep half living and things didn’t change in one day. It hurt and many tears fell on my path. They still do. BUT I knew change was possible and that I could be that change. I did gain confidence in God, but I still had to do the actions. If I can do it, you can too. Take those steps and remember how wonderful you are. BE CONFIDENT TODAY! Tell yourself you can do this. You can change your outlook, your focus, the message you share. You can!

Take a few moments to quietly reflect on confidence and recognize what you have to offer. You have something! Focus on that throughout the day. Whenever you feel down, remember who YOU are and what you have to be proud of. Don’t negate it!

What do you have to be confident about? Proclaim it in the comment section and don’t forget that affirmation!

Quotes to Reflect On
It's not who you are that holds you back, it's who you think you're not. ~Author Unknown

We have to learn to be our own best friends because we fall too easily into the trap of being our own worst enemies. ~Roderick Thorp, Rainbow Drive

I just happened to stumble across your blog today from Inspired Mess. I love this. I love what your doing. It’s so funny though because I was just thinking to myself on my lunch break of how confident I finally am in myself. I am content with who I am, where I am in my life, and what I look like (always had a small self-esteem issue, but what girl doesnt). You are awesome <333

great quotes, tina! and great post overall. it is so important to remember our strengths over our weaknesses, because the easy thing to do is flop it the other way around. i am confident and proud of my strengths, thank you for the reminder.

  6. I am confident that I am a good wife to my husband. I love doing things for him, supporting and encouraging him when needed and making him smile and laugh. I love that I can help alleviate his burdens and provide a safe, nurturing home for him to come home to:)

  7. Trisha says:

I am confident that in God’s timing, I will have all that my heart desires (to be a mom) and the things I ask the Lord for. I am confident that he hears my prayers because he has given me so much already.

I am confident that I am a runner! I can train for and complete runs of all different distances and no matter what my time is, I am determined to finish strong and be successful.

  8. When I read this post, I took a little bit different reflection on it. When I thing of confidence, I think about the confidence that I have in front of others, and the confidence that I have when I am alone or standing in front of a mirror. In the past, my confidence around others did not match the one that I had when I was alone. Around others, I put on this mask and acted confident. I acted as if I felt beautiful, that I had high self-esteem, and was proud of my strengths; and as if I felt I didn’t have any weaknesses, failures, or imperfections. However, when I was alone I would focus on everything that I felt could be improved. I could have thinner thighs, my hair could be thicker/fuller, my skin could be clearer, I could be a better student, friend, daughter, girlfriend. This dual masks of confidence impacted my relationship with my body and relationship with others. Because of my jaded confidence alone I treated my body poorly and built up walls preventing those who cared about me getting in. Thus, I lost amazing people from my life because of how I saw myself and the way I acted around them. Finally, one day my husband caught me looking in the mirror and I was on the brink of tears. He gave me a slap of reality and said, “you know why don’t you see the beauty that I see.” So, I tried looking at myself through his eyes. I finally felt confident and saw the amazing qualities that he saw in me. My inner strength, my ambition and drive to reach my goals, my perseverance to finish school, my ability to see the light in a dark situation, and my unconditional love that I have for those around me. I felt as if I didn’t have to live a lie anymore. That I didn’t have to act confident around others, but I actually live and be confident.
I am confident in my ability to nurture and unrelenting optimist!
I am confident that I am a loving wife!
I am confident that I am a better friend now, because I have learned to love myself 🙂

What a wonderful reflection! I didn’t even think of distinguishing between the confidence we present to others vs the TRUE confidence we have in ourselves. Glad you are able to see your genuine confidence and wonderful qualities. 🙂

    Hi!

Love your blog! I am on a whole Health & Fitness & Spiritual overhaul at the moment – The Lord is really changing me deep inside my spirit as as He does it the eating, the exercise, the right mindsets are beginning to be rebuilt from strong foundations in Him!

The past 3 weeks I have been eating clean (95% of the time), I have started to enjoy (and even want to) do exercise & do healthy fit things (got a bicycle and doing bike rides with my hubby & 4 year old daughter), I am even starting to believe in myself and have confidence that I can do this – I can choose to be healthy & happy, I can choose to eat well & be strong, I can choose to live an active life and I can be confident that the work He has begun in me He will bring to completion!

Thanks heaps for your blog – just what I need to help along my journey.

With regards from a crazy South African girl living in Australia!

    • Tina says:

Thank you for your comment and I’m so happy to hear that you are finding the confidence to care for and love yourself the way you deserve. We are all beautiful and wonderful people and you should feel the same about yourself. 🙂

Sorry I am just now replying, as I have been out of town with no access to the computer, but wanted to be sure you knew how much I appreciate your encouragement. I hope to continue to hear from you!

  17. Terri says:

  18. Priscilla says:

Thank you for taking the time to write such motivational things. I tend to have a low self-esteem and tonight I feel down, but your words are helping me so much.

    • Tina says:

Thanks, Priscilla! I hope you continue to grow that confidence. We all have so much to offer the world. It took me a long time to believe it for myself but I firmly believe it now…and certainly see the worth in everyone else.

  19. Rachel says:

this project seems awesome! i’m definitely going to take part in it. someone once told me “fake it til you make it” with confidence, and while i hardly believed her at the time, i’ve found myself to be much more confident in myself lately! whenever i find myself worrying about entering a new situation, i remind myself that i am awesome, put on a smile, and remind myself that God is with me in all things, and nothing will be impossible for us!

    • Tina says:

I completely agree that faking it til you make it can work. It seems so cliche and, well, fake..but it does end up becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy with a good outcome. So, why not? 🙂

  21. Deborah says:

    Hi Tina

This was a bit of a challenge (and it’s only day 1).

I have posted my response in my blog, but some of that is below.

I’m a good problem-solver or trouble shooter. I can think laterally. I’m not an overly process-y person but I generally find that I can offer a solution if someone comes to me with a tricky problem.

I believe I’m emotionally intelligent. I can read peoples’ responses and behaviour and be in tune with their feelings. My brother is almost completely the opposite, so I think I got his share of that gene.

I’m quick-minded. I pick up things quickly. My mind suffers a little from ADD and I sometimes find it hard to sustain a long thought, as my mind jumps onto a tangent midway through, but I am excellent at multi-tasking and keeping a lot of balls in the air.

    Phew… only 29 to go!

    Deb

  22. I am confident in God’s faithfulness no matter what I do or don’t do.
I’m confident in my writing ability, my enjoyment of reading and trying new things, my ability to lend encouragement to someone who is going through something I’ve gone through, and my willingness to grow and share my emotions with my husband.

Thank you for the opportunity to state these things!

    • Tina says:

I love those things you feel confident about. All such great ones!!!

And I love that you have the same thing going on at night with your thoughts. Glad to know I’m not alone. LOL

    • Daniyal says:

  25. Leslie says:

I struggle daily on thinking I am good enough but I am confident at work. I know my job and I am good at it. I know I am a good mother but I need to work on my patience and follow through with discipline. It’s the rest of my life that I lack confidence in.

  27. Xandria says:

I am confident that I have control over my self worth and no one else does.

I am confident that one day, someone will find me and love me unconditionally and I them.

I am confident in my freckles on my face.

I am confident that as a friend, daughter, and family member, and even lover, I am a good listener, sympathetic, loyal, trustworthy, and fun-loving.

I am confident in my voice and my self-discipline (the positive aspects thereof).

I am confident that my confidence will get stronger in time.

  28. Xandria says:

I am also confident in my learning ability. And my ability to focus and work hard at what I love.
